Session Start: Mon Dec 08 12:17:12 2014
Session Ident: #evildunes
* Now talking in #evildunes
* Topic is 'Pepo(27)>Lucy(23)>Veren(16)>Moore(15)>Arrower(9) '
* Set by Kotono on Mon Nov 17 13:30:05
<TenGreatXornings> ----
<Kotono> Soon enough the three and company return to researching...OOC: Will save, Veren.
<Veren > roll 1d20+8+2 Will Save/Inspiration
* Hatbot --> "Veren rolls 1d20+8+2 Will Save/Inspiration and gets 29." 12 [1d20=19]
<Veren > OOC: that's wrong, actually. Inspiration bonus is int, so it'd be +5 not +2
<Kotono> More digging. Hours pass. The normal yawns pass amid the party as they research, with Jetina pausing to yawn and stretch. She then sneezes, blowing dust off an ancient tome. "Oh, look at this," she says, pointing at a page she's reading.
* Veren peers at it, but doesn't expect to see anything worthwhile to himself.
* Lucy leans over her shoulder while totally disregarding her personal space. It's about time they actually get a solid lead to build upon!
<Moore> Moore flies over to look too!
<Kotono> An inset illustration is of a green teardrop made of fire. It's not an exact match, but it's close to the pirate's sigil. The text below it is written in Common and reads, "The sigil of the Greenfire Companions. Formed 491 MET, considered dissolved 504 MET."
* Veren makes a mental note of the name and date, and turns back to the library to try and find more information... Though it's a long shot for him.
<Lucy> "What MET year is it now?"
<Kotono> Jetina flips a few pages back, "MET stands for Marpan Established Time, which went up to about 800 before the nation collapsed. Which was a few centuries ago," Jetina explains. "They're a bit out of my range and nothing near Falbard."
<Lucy> "I don't mind greenfire, I suppose," Lucy muses. "It probably has an acidy flavor. But does your book have more on these Companions? Their goals, their grudges, their founding members?"
<Kotono> "Not much. This is just a listing of mercenary companies," she explains, tapping the page before flipping back. "There's a bunch of the later ones that have tires to Rossalund, I just happened to flip back and saw this."
<Lucy> "Well then! Next I capture one of their members, I'll be sure to ask if they still use that name," Lucy says, making a note for herself before heading over to see what Aria is looking into.
<Moore> Moore rubs his chin. "But it seems odd for them to resurrect some centuries-old group name... Maybe it's for nostalgic purposes..."
<Kotono> "Maybe it has something to do with Marpan?" Jetina shrugs, "We could look into that."
<Moore> "Maybe we can find events around those years that you mentioned. It also might not be a bad idea to look into what happened to Marpan, because if it was caused by some sort of great magical disaster, these people might have some kind of... ah... vendetta, I suppose."
<Kotono> OOC: Okay. That sounds like a plan. What's your agenda with further checking, y'all? Gonna keep on the current lead or work on Marpan, or something else?
<Lucy> OOC: Ask Aria if she found something about a recent rise in incidents, then ask her how Marpan died and why
<Kotono> OOC: Okay. First part will be IC.
<Kotono> The party's researching when you talk to Aria. "There's no sign of incidents. However," Aria looks a little less composed, a hint of fatigue to her, "Our diviners have found a block. They haven't broken it yet, but they're aware to it. It lends credence to your claims."
<Moore> "Well, that's good that you found it!" Moore says with a smile.
<Lucy> "I must point out I have no solid information of my own," Lucy notes. "That said, Mister Pepo has been decently accurate so far." She purses her lips. "You all seem quite tired, so perhaps we could adjourn for tonight? I would merely like to check out any books on Marpan's fall and the circumstances surrounding it, on the off chance one of their mercenary groups evolved into the green teardrop
<Lucy> crew."
<Kotono> "Agreed," Aria says, "Go rest and return tomorrow."
<Lucy> Not everyone is as perfect as her and can go on researching beautiful information endlessly, so she has to make allowances. "Till tomorrow, Miss Aria," she says out loud.
<Kotono> As the party closes up, a page comes over to Aria. The two chat briefly and she nods, before coming back. "Also, there's one possible complication that just worked its way up."
<Lucy> "Yes?"
<Kotono> "Oh yes," Aria says, almost yawning but managing to control it. "I should pass this along. It may be related to our problems - there was an incident with a changeling today - a shapeshifter. One that was seeking assassins."
<Lucy> "You don't say!"
<Veren > "How... insidious."
<Moore> Moore looks over at Veren and then back to Aria. "Is there any way to tell if someone is a shapeshifter?"
<Kotono> "Yes," Aria agrees. "It may well be a sign of infiltration. It's - yes, we're looking into it. Dedicated scrying as well as the guard magisters going around with a spell to detect shapeshifted creatures." She frowns at that, "Lost Hero's eyes see past those manner of tricks as well, so he may be asked to help by the guard magisters."
<Lucy> "It sounds like the cheapest alternative," Lucy muses. She inclines her head and turns to leave. "Well then, once more I bid you good night, Miss Aria."
<Veren > "What would the punishment for such a crime be? Seeing as we're new here, and we're seeking information, it would be unwise to ask questions of the wrong people."
<Kotono> Miss Aria nods in acknowledgement to Lucy as she replies to Veren, "If the changeling is suspected or confirmed of pirate alliance, we'll get answers out of him and then probably execution for subversion. If not...?" she hmms a moment, "It was still searching for assassins. Probably a considerable sentence as a magical experimental subject."
<Veren > "Sounds like a heavy sentence."
<Lucy> It doesn't really concern her and Lucy starts making her way back to the ship. The others will catch up soon enough, she's sure of it, and no one would possibly be dumb enough to try and rob her again or something silly like that again.
<Kotono> "We don't take attempted murder for hire lightly," Aria agrees, "Better to stamp that out before it starts. We used to lose good mages to that, or waste resources divining those plots out."
<Moore> Moore clears his throat. "Well, surely if you find whoever did it you can get them to give you the truth, right?"
<Veren > "Well, speaking of assassins, are there any underground groups in the city that could have ties to these pirates? Divining is all well and good, but people like that tend to have connections, do they not? And if they happen to go silent or disappear, that could perhaps be an indication all on its own."
<Kotono> "It's possible," Aria admits, "We're looking into this..." her lips curl into a deep frown, "This indignity. This treason."
<Veren > OOC: I don't really have much more.
<Kotono> OOC: Okay, let's move all of you into #dunes.
This is not the greatest post in the world, no... this is just a tribute.
