<Kotono> OOC: Pepo: 'fraid not. It's also a magical woods, so to be totally honest, it's possible the danged thing moves/has been moved there anyway. Lucy: Most of it's the glowing sort of things about a historical figure from the past: Great abjurer, founder of the library, lover of knowledge. Also lover of some sort of sorrow creature didn't work out well for anyone involved.  Main things survivors
<Kotono> have said is that there's undead. Not always the strongest, but a lot of them. Persistent.  They'll handle getting you there, the scroll's for you to get out with once you get the gem and escape.

<Lucy> OOC: I'm still unclear on what else the gem can do aside from the abjuration focus, and whether its presence affects the environment in any way

<Pepo> OOC: we know we find it when we find a gem that's cerulean and magic. Dunno about the rest.
<Kotono> OOC: It's a big cerulean gem. To be brutally honest, it's very much a case of you'll know it when you see it. It's a great focus for abjuration magic, on the macro scale. If a wall of force works over perhaps 100ft, this gem is designed to make it work over thousands of feet.

<Kotono> Soon enough you're gathered up by Rocky. After the customary last minute checks, the party is teleported. You stand on a dark, dim plane. The light of the glow is faint here, barely anything at all. Rocky snaps his fingers, dancing lights illuminating everything ahead. About 50ft ahead is the tree line of a misty forest. There's more light from it, a dim glow of fogginess. It's ethereal, almost,
<Kotono> with a faint blue shimmer that manifests here and there.
<Lucy> Quite excited at what she might find there, Lucy waves at Rocky and practically skips towards the woods. Eyes peeled, of course!
<Pepo> It looks quite nice really. The charm will surely wear off when the undead attack, so Pepo opts to remain hidden as best he can. 'Hopefully we will see each other within five days,' he tells Rocky, slinking forward into the darkness.

<Kotono> The party heads on in. The forest is thick but not so thick to be impossible to pass. The terrain is difficult but nothing more. Once you're about 15ft in, Pepo's managed to step on a loud, crunchy leaf on the ground, Veren accidentally hit a tree with his foot and Lucy's skipping right on in. This gets the attention of things ahead. 30ft ahead you can see skeletons: Four of them in a line facing
<Kotono> you. They're slowly picking through the woods, coming right at you. They carry rusty weapons: A great sword, a dagger, a bow and a club. Notably, the bow is being held like a bludgeoning weapon. OOC: Init here. Stealth was not with the party.

<Kotono> The blast of winds sends gusts of force lacing through the skeletons. They're chipped and shredded, checked back as bone dust is sent flying from them in all directions. But they aren't down yet. OOC: Pepo.
<Pepo> Since they survived Lucy's attack, Pepo follows up with a wall of flame that rises up from the ground directly across the skeletal line! No heat is felt on this side but they're sure to get a cooking from it!

<Kotono> The wall of flames engulfs the undead. The forest around it begins to smoke and burn as two fall, the other two up but burning before your eyes. As this happens...OOC: More.
<Kotono> Suddenly, behind the party the earth erupts. From it comes an old wooden coffin, decorated with faded paint patterns. The door of it flies off at the party, at Lucy in particular!

<Kotono> But Lucy glances back and rolls to the side, a nearby tree taking the coffin lid instead of her. The rest of the coffin crumbles before you, as a shambling mummy emerges. It raises wrapped hands up as it tries to pummel Lucy into submission.

<Kotono> But Lucy is a hair too fast. She grabs a nearby tree and swings 'round and up it, letting the tree get hit instead. Where the tree is hit, wood crumbles to dust and sand. Meanwhile, the shambling and burnt dagger skeleton attempts to come forward, right through the wall of fire. OOC: It's damaged again then?

<Kotono> "Got it!" Jetina withdraws her holy symbol, which crackles with electric light. "In the name of Qupan, rest! Never again trouble the living!" Waves of golden light come from her,  hitting all the undead hard.

<Kotono> POP! The blood bat is skewered and bursts into black blood all over. Amid this, you can see something heavier and shiny fall from the ruptured body, hitting the ground. But meanwhile...OOC: Pepo'n'Lucy. Go.
<Pepo> Now focusing on the mummy, Pepo attempts to set it on fire while remaining hidden despite the lance of fire bursting out from around his position!

<Moore> Moore will cast a Detect Magic on it, just in case!
<Lucy> "I really should have learned fireball," Lucy laments, as a shadow forms around her body before resolving into translucent armor. She nods to herself, and then looks around for traces of magic.
<Pepo> 'I hope we do not face this level of resistance every step of the way,' Pepo says dubiously.
<Lucy> OOC: Shadow conjuration to cast greater mage armor, duration 9hr
<Veren > "You'll have plenty of time to study and learn it once the pirate invasion isn't looming."
<Lucy> "Oh, I don't know," she muses in response. "It is such a peasant's spell. No elegance in it."
> "Sounds like a project. Can't you improve it?"
<Lucy> "Certainly! An explosion of sound would be much better, or perhaps even force. But then it would no longer be fire and not burn down mummies, you see?"
* Veren shrugs and holds up his knife.
<Veren > "Unfortunately, I cannot relate."
<Lucy> "I could demonstrate the principles quite well once they show me their variant on the Spellpool, if you'd like?"
<Veren > "If you'd like an audience, I suppose I could assist you."
* Lucy tilts her head. "It might be nice. You'll need to praise my brilliance and skill if you want me to go to all this trouble, of course."
<Veren > "It has to work, first."
* Veren grins at Lucy.
<Kotono> The object looks to be a small, stone heart. It radiates faint magic. OOC: Spellcraft.

<Kotono> Moore can tell the heart is a focal point for the bat's enchantment. While of no practical value as is, it would be a useful component for making magical items.
<Moore> "Oh, Mister Kamhoff would like that." Moore says as he flies over to put it away in his backpack.
<Lucy> "If you say so," Lucy says dubiously, before glancing at the fire. If it's spreading, they really should take the time to put it out.
<Veren > OOC: I lack Profession: Firefighter sadly.
<Kotono> The fire's smoking and spreading. It's still pretty small, but it is burning.
<Lucy> "Does anyone have a handy spell to stop the fire before it burns down the forest?"
* Veren silently holds up his dagger in answer.
<Kotono> "I do," Jetina says, going over and praying near it. Gushes of water follow, quenching some as she repeats and repeats.
<Lucy> "Thank you," Lucy says politely, and checks out this block on divination for herself by trying to use her clairvoyance.
<Kotono> Lucy attempts clairvoyance...nothing happens. It's clear to Lucy that something is suppressing the spell.
<Lucy> "Huh." Nodding to herself, Lucy heads on deeper into the forest.
* Veren goes along, trying to stick to the shadows to hide... Hopefully better this time around.
<Pepo> Pepo proceeds.

<Kotono> The party travels perhaps 5 minutes in. The forest is slow going and mistier inside. Everything is an ethereal, pale white light lined with fog. As if you stride through the dreams of a dead nation, long since reduced to dust. Ahead you see a little clearing a cabin there. It's unremarkable - a well, a small outhouse besides it and a tree stump with an axe buried in the top. Besides it are several
<Kotono> stacks of firewood.
* Lucy heads into the cabin to take a closer look!
<Pepo> He doubts the gem is there, but there's no real reason to make a fuss so Pepo follows after her.
<Moore> Moore resumes being invisible for the time being.
* Veren follows, but takes a moment to inspect the well and axe before entering.
<Kotono> Veren examines the well. He can see no water within it, looks empty. The axe looks to be a good, solid hand axe, the sort used to cut wood. It has a worn leather strap over the grip.
<Kotono> Meanwhile, Lucy and company head into the cabin. On opening the door, the party (save Veren) sees...OOC: Will save, all but Veren. Mind-affecting enchantment.
* Veren raises an eyebrow at the axe, deciding it might be worth taking for work use if no one lives in the cabin.

<Kotono> "Mmmm," Jetina looks on and steps in, starting to undo her armor. "Yes, I think a nap's about right," she says.

<Pepo> Pepo silently jumps up onto one of the beds, kneading it with his claws as he spins around before curling himself up and closing his eyes.
<Kotono> OOC: Pause lines there.
<Kotono> Pepo settles in. Suddenly...

* Veren moves to look in on the others after having checked out the yard, being a little concerned at not hearing anything from them. Lucy's silence is odd, after all.
<Kotono> Jetina gets her gauntlets and breastplate off, working on her greaves and supporting armor next. She yawns as she works on those in the meantime. OOC: Moore?
<Moore> Moore politely covers and pats his mouth to stifle a yawn before flying over to find a bed and sit down on it.
<Pepo> "Mrowl!" Pepo's fur stands on end as he scrambles to get free of the bed, likely only getting himself caught up in the blankets even more. Such a wacky cat and his silly shenanigans!

<Pepo> 'That axe was coming for us. I suggest everyone move to the other side of the stump,' Pepo says before it can reappear and continue its deadly mission.
<Moore> Moore looks around but flies in the direction Pepo indicates. "What in the world is that thing...?" Moore wonders aloud.
* Veren pauses for a moment, but goes inside to get Jetina's armor.
<Lucy> 'Certainly,' Lucy responds to Pepo, and moves over as she resolves to be more alert to her surroundings.
<Kotono> Jetina eeps and covers herself, despite being covered by her under padding and clothes. "I hate the undead! Hate, hate, hate, hate!" she hurries along to the other side of the stump.

<Kotono> Veren gathers up Jetina's armor in the hell house, while the others get to the other side. Which is good, since moments later the axe reappears. It's momentum carries to where Jetina's neck would've been, before it stops. The axe floats in midair as...OOC: Init.
