Session Start: Tue Jan 13 11:50:41 2015
Session Ident: #dunes
* Now talking in #dunes
* Topic is 'Moore(30)>Veren(28)>Lucy(24)>Jetina(23)>Pepo(21)>Aqua Skull Knot(10)>End of Round Reminder '
* Set by Kotono on Mon Jan 12 13:00:16
<Ko-Kappafear> ---------
<Ko-Kappafear> <Moore> "Do we need to return to where we started in order to teleport out?" Moore asks.
<Ko-Kappafear> <Lucy> "Yes, since I couldn't teleport from down there," Lucy responds, using prestidigitation upon herself once more. "Is there any interest in looking at the treasure along our way?"
<Ko-Kappafear> <Pepo> 'I lack the power even for that. You may of course do as you wish.'
<Ko-Kappafear> <Veren> "There was that pit. I'm sure there's lots of worthwhile things in there. Speaking of..."
<Ko-Kappafear> * Veren pulls out the dagger, red bottle, purple bottle, mace, and gold ring.
<Ko-Kappafear> <Moore> "Well, I'd like to try and figure out why this gem is so important." Moore says.
<Ko-Kappafear> <Veren> "Anyone want to look these over?"
<Ko-Kappafear> <Lucy> "It can surely wait until we've left the forest of undeath?"
<Ko-Kappafear> * Lucy does agree with Moore that they can spend a few moments to study the gem, at least.
<Ko-Kappafear> * Veren shrugs and puts the items back.
<Ko-Kappafear> > OOC: Okay wow, end of session snuck up on me. Let's pause here, we'll sort this + the escape next time.
<Ko-Kappafear> OOC: Trying to spellcraft the gem?
<Lucy> OOC: yep
<Ko-Kappafear> OOC: Go for it.
<Lucy> roll 1d20+17
<Serith> Lucy roll for Serith < 32 > 12 [d20=15]
<Ko-Kappafear> The gem's powerful. Really powerful. It's a bastion of abjuration magic. Unfortunately, that magic makes closer study much more difficult at best. You can confirm it's potent but that's about it.
<Lucy> "It really is the right gem. Glorious," Lucy deadpans.
<Ko-Kappafear> Jetina checks her sword over as Lucy does that, "You sound excited," she remarks.
<Moore> roll 1d20+13 don't think I can beat that  but I'll try
<Serith> Moore roll for Serith < 26 > 12 [d20=13]
<Pepo> 'Yes, show more enthusiasm,' Pepo remonstrates, 'It was your idea to get it after all.'
<Lucy> "It's just abjuration," Lucy says matter of factly. "An utterly uninspiring school, when all has been said and done. Powerful, certainly, but...." She shakes her head. "Never mind that. I'm interested in their Spellpool, and the gem will keep the city around to have a Spellpool for me to play with, so it's all good."
<Veren > "If we have it, should we not move on? Do we want to simply return or deal with the elf?"
<Lucy> "We just return. There was no agreement we have to honor and he's probably a terrible lich that will try to kill you if we come to him anyway."
<Pepo> 'We could see what he has to offer after we've used it to save the town,' Pepo suggests.
<Lucy> "So we could!"
<Veren > "Then back to where we teleported in to, or the treasure pit?"
<Pepo> 'Lets just leave the forest.'
* Lucy purses her lips. "I'll be frank. I'm not diving into the pit. But I will help out with my magic if you want to!"
* Veren shrugs.
<Lucy> "I'll take that as a no. In that case, I believe we have a majority for heading out?"
<Moore> "We can always return." Moore says. "Maybe we can use the gem somehow to... I don't know, make this place less... er... evil."
<Lucy> "I think that is highly unlikely," Lucy elaborates, heading on, "given that it was present here all along to no such effect."
<Veren > "Perhaps it simply needs to be used the right way. It was, after all, sitting at the bottom of a pond. In any case, it's something to deal with after we use it in the city."
<Moore> "Well, but wasn't it somehow the root of what happened to this forest in the first place? I thought there was something like that that happened with the creator of the gem." Moore says. "Either way, I'm curious what it can actually... do."
<Ko-Kappafear> OOC: Heading straight out, then?
<Lucy> OOC: yes
<Ko-Kappafear> roll1 d100
<Ko-Kappafear> roll 1d100
<Serith> Ko-Kappafear roll for Serith < 79 > 12 [d100=79]
<Ko-Kappafear> The trip back goes fine so far as to the river. The bridge is still down, no obvious path across it. The river runs sharply fast now, a rapid churning ribbon of water.
* Lucy looks around to see if it would be feasible to use any of the nearby trees to create a new bridge, or to tie a rope to the branches of a tree on each bank.
<Ko-Kappafear> The trees are all upright or smashed under the bridge. You'd have to do some work to get one down. A rope could be doable, though.
<Lucy> "I think the most effective course of action would be to have Moore secure a rope around a tree on each bank, high enough to not be bothered by the water. And, of course, for Jetina to take her armor off."
<Moore> OOC: Could I use entangle to create a bridge of vines and other things everyone could walk across?
<Ko-Kappafear> "Again?" Jetina murmurs, but starts to do so. "We can carry it across in pieces, should need be."
<Ko-Kappafear> OOC: Link me to entangle?
<Moore> OOC: http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:Entangle
<Veren > "The solution is simple, really."
<Veren > "Jetina needs to learn to fly."
* Veren nods.
* Lucy shrugs. "We all know what will happen. At the worst possible time, a trap will be sprung. And considering how you regretted having it on in the water, wouldn't you say this is a sensible precaution? Don't worry, in any case. You won't die easily without it."
* Lucy tilts her head, looking at Veren. "How deep. Rather, the armor should be taught to swim and fly."
* Veren nods to Lucy.
<Veren > "Water snake."
<Lucy> "That is the obvious trap. Mine would spring after you've dealt with it and made it to the other bank."
<Veren > "Has anything here been that intricate, though?"
<Ko-Kappafear> Jetina looks sidelong at Veren, "Flying armor, I see." She's doing a good job of getting it off in the meantime. "
* Veren fishes his rope out of his pack for Moore.
* Lucy decides to help Jetina, not really shying away from manual labor. "Actually? There was supposed to be a monster immune to magic guarding this lovely trinket, and we found none. Yet."
<Moore> Moore will take the rope for the time being. "I may have another solution, but I'm not sure if it'd be any more or less convenient than this."
<Veren > "Hm?"
<Pepo> This is all starting to seem too convoluted for Pepo so he just jumps in the water and swims across.
<Pepo> roll 1d20+18 swim
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 28 > 12 [d20=10]
<Moore> "I could use an entangling spell to just make a path for us. It might not be very easy to traverse, though." Either way, Moore will busy himself with tying the rope for now.
<Ko-Kappafear> OOC: Not really, Moore.
<Moore> OOC: Okay.
<Moore> "On second thought, it probably wouldn't support all the weight." Moore says as he flies to the other side.
<Lucy> "Okay then!" Once the rope is secured, Lucy will use it to make sure the path is safe and then they can bring Jetina's armor across.
<Ko-Kappafear> Moore flies across without incident. Pepo swims across! The current is sharply strong, but the feline is more than good enough to make it across safely.
* Veren gathers up what armor pieces he can to help carry it across, strides forward to the edge of the river, and uses some of his last remaining mental power to activate his levitation and floats across the river!
<Ko-Kappafear> Veren crosses without incident.
<Moore> Moore will tie the rope on the other side so they can get across!
<Ko-Kappafear> The rope is duly tied.
* Lucy tests it out!
<Ko-Kappafear> It seems to be a rope that's tied to two trees. Everything looks to be in order.
* Lucy uses the rope to climb across.
<Ko-Kappafear> OOC: Make a climb check.
<Lucy> roll 1d20-1 what is this climb check
<Serith> Lucy roll for Serith < 11 > 12 [d20=12]
<Ko-Kappafear> Lucy  manages to make the trip across the rope safely. Now armor free and ready to go, Jetina follows.
<Ko-Kappafear> roll 1d20+2 Jetina
<Serith> Ko-Kappafear roll for Serith < 6 > 12 [d20=4]
<Ko-Kappafear> Jetina struggles with the rope, making it about halfway before she yelps. Before your eyes her grip slips and she plunges into the waters. (More)
<Ko-Kappafear> roll 1d20+2 swim check
<Serith> Ko-Kappafear roll for Serith < 9 > 12 [d20=7]
<Ko-Kappafear> Not good. She comes up briefly as she's being dragged downstream, but then starts to sink under. OOC: Act y'all.
<Lucy> "This is ridiculous!"
<Pepo> Pepo jumps in afterwards to save her! Maybe. He'll give a shot, he's a great swimmer.
<Moore> Moore will cast Entangle to try and catch Jetina so she has something to stop her from being carried away! Maybe she can even grab onto something!
<Moore> OOC: So he's casting it further down the river than where she is to try and put a gap there for her to get stuck in / grab onto.
<Ko-Kappafear> OOC: Swim check, Pepo. Okay Moore. Veren and Lucy can still act before I'll resolve things.
<Pepo> roll 1d20+18
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 38 > 12 [d20=20]
* Veren shapeshifts into flying elf form and launches after Jetina, trying to get ahead of Jetina to either dive in after her, or help pull her out!
* Lucy stomps her foot, and summons a beast of magic and shadow, a demonic crocodile that appear further downstream to catch Jetina and help her to the right shore!
<Lucy> OOC: Shadow Conjuration for the fiendish croc
<Ko-Kappafear> OOC: Okay. Lemme resolve everything.
<Ko-Kappafear> Jetina makes it 30ft down before Pepo catches up. At the same time vines and grass extend out, helping stop her. Veren catches up and over her, as the croc catches her and finishes stopping her momentum. At this? (More)
<Ko-Kappafear> roll 1d20+14 (-5 PA, +5 ????)
<Serith> Ko-Kappafear roll for Serith < 22 > 12 [d20=8]
<Ko-Kappafear> roll 3d8+24
<Serith> Ko-Kappafear roll for Serith < 34 > 12 [d8=5,4,1]
<Ko-Kappafear> Jetina's head comes back above, taking a breath of air - that turns into a pained gasp, as the water around her starts to be stained blood red. OOC: Init here. Something or someone just did damage to Jetina.
<Pepo> roll 1d20+6+8
<Ko-Kappafear> roll 1d20+12 Jetina
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 29 > 12 [d20=15]
<Serith> Ko-Kappafear roll for Serith < 16 > 12 [d20=4]
<Moore> roll 1d20+8+5
<Serith> Moore roll for Serith < 26 > 12 [d20=13]
* Ko-Kappafear is now known as Kotono
<Kotono> roll 1d20+5 ????
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 7 > 12 [d20=2]
<Lucy> roll 1d20+4+8
<Serith> Lucy roll for Serith < 26 > 12 [d20=14]
* Kotono changes topic to 'Pepo(29)>Moore=Lucy(26)>Jetina(16)>???(7) '
<Kotono> OOC: Veren and croc.
> roll 1d20+4+8
<Serith> Veren roll for Serith < 23 > 12 [d20=11]
<Lucy> roll 1d20+1+8 croc
<Serith> Lucy roll for Serith < 20 > 12 [d20=11]
* Kotono changes topic to 'Pepo(29)>Moore=Lucy(26)>Veren(23)>Croc(20)>Jetina(16)>???(7) '
<Kotono> roll 1d20+10
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 28 > 12 [d20=18]
<Kotono> OOC: Open Pepo.
<Pepo> Pepo isn't interested in fighting whatever's there, so he bites onto whatever convenient bit of clothing he can get on Jetina, assuming the human scruff is less useful than a cat's, and tries to drag her towards the shore on Lucy and Moore's side.
<Kotono> OOC: Str score, Pepo?
<Pepo> OOC: 6
<Kotono> OOC: Swim check, -10 penalty.
<Pepo> roll 1d20+8
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 11 > 12 [d20=3]
<Kotono> No good. While Pepo doesn't go under or get swept along thanks to everything, moving Jetina with just himself isn't happening easily. OOC: Moore.
<Moore> "Miss Jetina, Mister Pepo, get out of there!" Moore calls to them. OOC: Using my Grant Move action to hopefully get Jetina and Pepo out.
<Kotono> OOC: You can try again with the move action, Pepo.
<Pepo> roll 1d20+8 again!
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 22 > 12 [d20=14]
<Kotono> This time Pepo does it. With pure might that can't be remotely non-supernatural, Pepo drags Jetina to the edge of the shore. She stumbles up, legs shredded all over. She makes it four steps ahead before falling in a bloody heap. It's like her legs were slashed by dozens of razors. She whimpers in clear agony as...OOC: Okay, Lucy.
<Lucy> "Moore, please see to Jetina," Lucy asks politely, keeping her eyes on the river. "Mister Crocodile, strike."
<Lucy> OOC: Holding
<Kotono> OOC: Veren.
* Veren lands next to Jetina and shifts back to his normal form.
<Kotono> OOC: Okay. Croc's up.
<Lucy> The shadow crocodile dives underwater to execute its orders!
<Lucy> roll 1d20+8 charging bite!
<Serith> Lucy roll for Serith < 15 > 12 [d20=7]
<Kotono> What is below is a mass of bone fish. In place of mouths they have metal blades. Strange things as the crocodile tries to take a bit - but they evade him smoothly, as one functioning unit. OOC: Jetina's up.
<Kotono> Jetina whimpers again and grabs her holy symbol. "Q-...qupan, please..." she rasps.
<Kotono> roll 3d8+7+7
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 30 > 12 [d8=3,7,6]
<Kotono> OOC: And fast healing 4 for 7 rounds.
<Kotono> Her legs mend in an instant, flesh restored to normality. She stands up shakily, "Thank you, everyone," she says, leaning against a tree. Meanwhile, the crocodile can see the fish break apart, swimming off in every direction. OOC: Free act for now.
<Pepo> Pepo just starts to groom himself, glad the excitement's over with.
<Lucy> The crocodile continues its futile task while Lucy puts it all out of her mind. "This was truly unfortunate," she comments. "Promise me that you will look into flight enchantments as soon as we return.'
* Veren lends Jetina a shoulder to help her back to her armor.
<Kotono> "Y-yeah," Jetina's hands shake as she tries to, "I...I just need a moment," she leans heavily on Veren, "This forest is wrong. So wrong. We should put it to the torch when we leave and let it all burn."
<Moore> "I have a feeling even if we tried that, something would go wrong." Moore says.
<Lucy> "Oh yes! What if it is the only thing keeping all the undead contained?"
<Kotono> Jetina slowly composes herself, heading back over quietly. As she puts her armor on, "Maybe," she finally says, wounds mended. "Let us just leave this cursed place."
<Lucy> "Gladly!"
<Kotono> OOC: Ready to move on, all?
<Lucy> OOC: yep
<Pepo> OOC: yep
<Kotono> roll 1d100
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 30 > 12 [d100=30]
<Kotono> The rest of the trip is peaceful - until you reach the edge of the forest at last. You step out and into safety. Rocky awaits, sitting on a rather large rock. "Back so soon?" he calls.
<Lucy> "It depends," Lucy responds, holding the large, awkward magical rock. "Are you another trap we have to defeat before going back, or the real you?"
> "Or were you ordered to let us retrieve the rock and then leave us here?"
<Lucy> "No, that would just be silly!"
* Lucy snaps her fingers. "I have an easy way to tell most of these foes apart. Jetina, would you mind doing that healing thing you do?"
<Kotono> "Oh, is that it? I'm pretty sure I am who I say I am," Rocky says as he eyes the gem.
<Kotono> "Hm? Who needs healing?" Jetina asks.
<Moore> "Oh, I get it." Moore nods to Lucy.
<Lucy> "Given that most of those things were undead...."
<Lucy> Noticing Rocky's glance, Lucy shrugs. "We did not really get a good description of the gem, but it fits the bill. Wouldn't you agree?"
This is not the greatest post in the world, no... this is just a tribute.
