Iron Dragoon

Session Start: Wed Jan 21 12:47:07 2015
Session Ident: #terrorofdunes
* Now talking in #terrorofdunes
* Topic is 'Young Elf(24)>John(23) '
* Set by Kotono on Fri Jul 11 10:18:27
<Kotono> ----
<Kotono> A chat with Rocky gets you to escort you along in your quest to learn more. He drops Lucy off at the library and leads all of you back out into the town. "I know just the fellow, he's off today and he bothered me about all of you yesterday," Rocky says, as you go through the streets. It's quite busy - the buzz of conversation seems to be all about the new barrier.
<Veren > "The wizard?"
<Moore> "I don't think that's very specific here." Moore says with a smile.
<Veren > "His name was Amarde I believe.
<Veren > "
<Kotono> "Amarde Smith," Rocky says, "That's who I'm taking you to."
* Veren nods, scratching his lizard under the chin.
<Kotono> *John Amarde. Bleh.
<Moore> "Oh. Then are you sure he really -wants- to see us?" Moore says with a slightly larger smile.
* Veren shrugs.
<Veren > "I went out of my way not to fight or hurt him or his men the first time."
<Kotono> "Oh, he'll be fine," Rocky says, "He has some good granite in him somewhere."
<Moore> "Haha." Moore nods. "Very well, then."
<Kotono> You're taken to a comfortable pub. Here it's warm and lit by a nice fireplace. At one tucked away table is the mage that nearly arrested Veren. He's working on paperwork, with a plate of breakfast foods nearby. Looks like bacon, sausage and eggs. Smells good, too. "John," Rocky says as you come close, "I'm bringing your favorite shapeshfiter," he claps his hands together, "As well as a
<Kotono> fey friend. They'd like to talk, and who's as wise as the earth about divinations?"
<Kotono> The mage takes a moment to sip from a glass of orange juice, "This is my day off, you know," he says plaintively. "I'm already doing paperwork."
<Kotono> "Then it's no greater imposition! That's John, steady as a stone cliff," Rocky says, "You all have fun and try the breakfast here if you haven't eaten." He waves and goes right on off.
<Moore> "It would seem like we've been dropped off like a box of rocks." Moore says with a sagely nod.
* Veren sighs just a little, but looks at John.
<Veren > "We are interested in finding out how we can be of assistance. Work."
<Kotono> John leans back and groans, "Don't you start now," he says, gesturing at the chairs. "Sit. I know when I've been dragooned into something."
* Veren sits and places his lizard on the table.
<Moore> Moore flies down and sits. Well, maybe stands. You never know with these human chairs. "I do apologize if this is an imposition."
<Kotono> It's a standing chair for someone of Moore's size. Ah well. "Well, I'm stuck with you, so ask away."
<Veren > "Our friends are able to assist with magical work. I am not. What kind of work is there for me?"
<Moore> Moore will stand then. "You shouldn't sell yourself sort, you've got the psionic thing."
<Veren > "This is still a mage city."
<Kotono> "You're a mind mage?" The old wizard looks up from his paperwork, "It's still close enough, as they say. Research in those fields is scanty. How well developed are you?"
<Veren > "... I have no way of knowing. Pepo is the only other one I've encountered. He is significantly more powerful in it. I primarily use my abilities to assist with my other skills. I work in the shadows mainly."
<Kotono> That draws a nod, a pause to work on his breakfast. "Well, there's use for that. What you do isn't automatically illegal. We have people who deal with things quietly. It's...tolerated, in certain cases. But doing it without that support isn't."
<Veren > "Which brings me here. To you."
<Moore> "Ah... I'm not exactly the same type as him, although I can turn invisible." Moore says. "But we should probably focus on him first, since I think the two of us would work differently."
<Kotono> "Certain groups need people like you." John goes on, "To fix problems. The various guilds in town are hardly bloodless," He scowls at this, "Sometimes things happen."
* Veren nods.
<Veren > "Who would I need to speak to about this work?"
<Kotono> "You've dealt with Rocky and Aria? Aria," he says, "She's involved in almost everything."
<Veren > "Really? She hardly seems the type."
<Kotono> "It is what it is," The mage remarks, "She's the person to ask."
<Veren > "I shall do so, then."
<Moore> "Does that include for any other job assignments?" Moore asks.
* Veren nods to Moore and does his best to entertain and socialize his lizard.
<Kotono> The lizard gets a look from the old mage, who doesn't comment. Instead he says, "Most," he says.
<Moore> "If I wanted to learn more about the divination that goes on here, is that still her?"
<Kotono> "I can tell you more about that," The old mage says, "What do you want to know? There are things I can't tell you because it's secret knowledge."
<Moore> Moore considers for a moment. "I suppose the most basic question is why it started in the first place. Did you have a lot of crime here?"
<Kotono> "Once on a time, yes. But as mages grew in number, we asked ourselves a question. Why not stop problems before they begin. A problem stopped is a problem solved easily." The old wizard explains, "A drunkard husband stopped is a wife left unbeaten and alive."
<Moore> "I worry that it's... well, I'm sure you all had this debate before, but that it's effectively policing the way people think... but I suppose it isn't, right? You only take action when the perpetrator is... well..." Moore sighs. "Sorry, it's really not for me to make commentary on your rules here. You stop evil people from doing evil things."
<Veren > "Regardless, you nearly arrested me for the simple act of trying to gather information, as well."

This is not the greatest post in the world, no... this is just a tribute.
