Session Start: Mon Jan 26 13:22:57 2015
Session Ident: #terrorofdunes
* Now talking in #terrorofdunes
* Topic is 'Young Elf(24)>John(23) '
* Set by Kotono on Fri Jul 11 10:18:27
<Kotono> > No good. There's no magic to dispel - whatever did it was instantaneous. Bolt is certainly dead.
<Kotono> <Veren> OOC: I gotta leave.
<Kotono> <Moore> Moore shakes his head. "Sorry, there's... nothing I can actually do here." He decides to try and identify the magic lingering just in case it helps him find the culprit!
<Kotono> <Pepo> Pepo walks in, looking as sorry a sight as he's ever been, with stuck up and charred fur ruining his usual lustrous appearance. 'Your lizard attacked me!' he declares, all wounded dignity!
<Veren > OOC: Going to see if I can tell if he's lying or not. Sense motive?
<Kotono> OOC: Sure. Make a bluff check to oppose, Pepo.
<Pepo> roll 1d20+2
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 21 > 12 [d20=19]
<Veren > roll 1d20+12+2 Sense Motive/Inspirationscrewyouserith
<Serith> Veren roll for Serith < 27 > 12 [d20=13]
<Kotono> Veren can tell something's a bit off about the whole thing. Yeah, Pepo looks like he got shocked good, but...
<Veren > "I don't believe that's the whole story. I can tell you two fought, so I won't say you were wrong to defend yourself... *Yet.* What happened?"
<Pepo> He doesn't have to explain himself! But he's not in the wrong so why not? 'It kept harassing me so I tried to establish dominance with a threat display. When that failed I scratched it, and it then shocked me quite severely. Really I did you a favor getting rid of it before it hurt someone more fragile.'
* Veren grunts.
<Moore> Moore frowns. "Mister Pepo, to me it sounds like you harassed it and it fought back, then you killed it..."
<Pepo> 'Oh yes, believe the stupid dead lizard and not your comrade in arms,' Pepo says with yet more wounded dignity, proceeding to start grooming himself.
<Veren > "Alright... I can sort of see how it went as far as it did. But you... You're smarter than just some animal. You have at least a little responsibility in this. If you don't like them, fine. I'll meet you half way."
* Veren points at Pepo.
<Veren > "I didn't even have it two days. If you can't get along with the one I pick, you're going to pick one you *can* get along with."
<Pepo> 'The other cat aboard would have done exactly as I did... except it wouldn't have survived long enough to kill the monster. I'll have no part of this madness. If you want one so badly get an egg and train it yourself so it doesn't go picking fights.'
<Moore> "How exactly did it 'pick a fight' with you in the first place?" Moore asks. "What was it doing that antagonized you so much?"
<Veren > "*If* I can do that, and I'm not sure I can, then you lose any rights to complain or take issue about just what kind of lizard it turns out to be."
<Moore> "I can help you." Moore says. "I know a thing or two."
<Pepo> 'It was posturing aggressively,' Pepo tells Moore. 'And I will always reserve the right to defend myself.'
<Veren > "Defending yourself and having a hand in instigating a fight are two different things."
<Pepo> 'A fight involves a bit of scratching and biting until someone runs away. I do not break out the deadly psionics unless I mean to kill something, and I expect similar restraint from any pet you bring aboard.'
<Veren > "We'll see."
* Veren turns and heads out to replace his lizard.
<Pepo> Pepo goes to find a place to sleep that isn't occupied by slowly melting lizard.
<Moore> "...Either way, I'll help you if I can, Veren. I think I can teach it without any complications." Moore says with a glance at Pepo. "Maybe you should learn restraint when dealing with animals of lesser intelligence than your own, Mister Pepo." He goes to follow after Veren.
<Veren > OOC: I picked up the body.
<Pepo> OOC: well it still smells of dead lizard!
<Kotono> OOC: Meow. Okay Veren'n'Moore, what's your plan here?
<Veren > OOC: I'm going back to the lizard guy.
<Moore> OOC: I'll go with Veren and see if I can How to Train a Lizard Dragon with my skillz
<Kotono> OOC: Okay.
<Kotono> The trip back to the shocker lizard store is unremarkable. The same man answers the ring for help, "Ah, you've returned," he says, "Here for another?"
<Veren > "One of the... people I travel with killed it. The talking cat."
<Moore> "It was apparently bothering them." Moore says with another frown. "We were hoping we might be able to buy an egg and then train it from birth to be less... ...scary, maybe?" Moore looks to Veren for confirmation.
<Veren > "Or intelligent enough to be able to understand what's going on."
<Kotono> :That's difficult," The man says, rather flatly. "I can sell you an egg, but it's hard to teach them. You need a way of reaching them directly."
<Moore> "What do you mean by directly?" Moore asks.
<Kotono> "Direct communication," The man says, "Magic, preferably."
<Moore> "Oh, like the spell that lets you talk to animals?" Moore asks. "Or does it need to be more specific?"
<Kotono> "That would work, except the lizards aren't animals," he says, "I use something customized."
<Moore> Moore nods. "I think I understand. If it wouldn't be a problem, maybe you can teach it to me? Or at least pen a scroll?"
<Kotono> The man frowns now - intensely, "I'm not going to hand over the secret to my business lightly," he says, "It would be like buying a franchise and priced like that." He stares at Moore, eyes not quite there. "How about..."
<Moore> Moore blinks and nods. "Oh, I see, I understand. ...Actually..." Moore looks thoughtful. "I might just be able to cast a spell on the lizard that lets it understand me."
<Kotono> "I wish you good luck. If you want an egg, I'll sell it to you for 100 gold."
<Moore> "If you have another suggestion, we'll be glad to consider it." Moore says. "I don't want you to think we're trying to steal your business."
<Veren > "... How about two?"
<Kotono> "Two eggs?" The man asks back, peering at him, "I can do that. If you want advice: Consult with a good druid. If anyone can help, it's one of them."
* Veren nods.
<Kotono> Eggs and gold are exchanged. Once done, "Good luck. The lizards can be temperamental, but if they see you right out of the egg, they're more likely to be non-hostile to you."
<Moore> "How long will it take for them to hatch?"
<Kotono> "A few days, they're close. They don't need heat or anything, just keep an eye on them," he says, "They hatch naturally."
<Moore> Moore nods. "All right. Thank you."
<Veren > "Thank you for your help."

This is not the greatest post in the world, no... this is just a tribute.
