<Koaway> ----
<Koaway> Ah, it's a good day. Pirate ships are captured and the party rested. Now everything's being sorted out. Rocky meets you on your ship, shaking hands. Outside the port is an absolute bustling frenzy. "I swear, everyone's rocking on in pure excitement. What a victory!" he says, "Oh, and the celebration tomorrow is going to be incredible."
<Koaway> Kamhoff's there, watching it all go from the side of the ship, "Rich in reverse plunder," he strokes his chin, "If you plunder a pirate, does that make you a pirate?"
<Koaway> Jetina's nearby, sitting on a barrel as she polishes her great sword. The cracks from the skeletal knight battle are repaired and she works it to a mirror shine. "I don't think being a pirate is contagious."
<Lucy> "No," Lucy responds to Kamhoff, before looking around for Jetina.
<Veren > "Doesn't it make you a privateer?"
<Koaway> Bolethon's even up here, peering out at the sea of light.
* Lucy perks up and hops on a nearby barrel lightly. "You know, you missed us making a whole lot of new friends!"
<Pepo> Pepo goes to rub himself against Jetina's shins. He helped stop a pirate invasion, he deserves to be petted!
<Moore> Moore nods to Rocky. "I'm glad this was solved in a short time, rather than a long, protracted battle."
<Koaway> "Details, details. Pebbles underfoot, nothing more." Rocky waves it off, "Here's a report for you. First of all, we're still working on the captain of your ship. He can take his weapons with him when he stores his projection, and getting them out isn't easy."
<Lucy> "Just what is he?"
<Koaway> Jetina picks up Pepo and pets, sword put aside. Then to Lucy, "Sorry, I was deep in prayer," A blush comes, "By the time I roused myself, all of you were gone. It must have been Qupan's will."
<Lucy> "Oh, that's quite alright," Lucy assures her. "If it hadn't been dangerous I would've doubled back for you."
<Koaway> Kamhoff grunts at Veren, "Sure, but I think everyone is. Well, that and richer now," he strokes his chin.
<Koaway> "We have no idea!" Rocky says cheerfully, "He's a chip off a stone we haven't seen before. His arms aren't natural and are some sort of embedded magic. It's interesting and exotic, which usually means it'll take any stone a lot of going downhill to gather any  moss."
<Pepo> Pepo purrs in contentment at receiving his due.
<Lucy> "My, magically grafted limbs! How extraordinary!"
<Koaway> "Isn't it?" Rocky agrees, "We could eliminate the problem of relying on divine magic for regeneration. It's really such a bother," he remarks, "Or to find someone who can do it with arcane magic. It's terribly advanced magic as it is, you see."
<Koaway> As Jetina pets Pepo away, "Moore's right. I am glad it was solved with a minimum of killing."
<Lucy> "I see we will become even closer friends in the future~"
* Lucy coughs. "Yes. A minimum."
<Pepo> 'I dominated some sailors and they made sure to kill everyone on the nearby boats for me,' Pepo proudly informs her.
<Koaway> "Also, here's a rough accounting of the ship's value, and the offer to buy or take the loot," A piece of folded paper is passed to Lucy. "It doesn't include the captain's weapon and shield, nor that chest. Speaking of that, did you crack that bedrock open yet?"
* Lucy takes the time to properly read it, letting someone else field the question about the chest.
<Koaway> That stops the petting. "Pepo!" Jetina exclaims, "Why cause unneeded loss of life?"
<Moore> Moore nods to Lucy, but turns to Rocky. "Yes, we had a few more bad run-ins but Veren got it open. Interesting stuff inside, all things told."
<Pepo> 'Unneeded? I don't understand,' Pepo says in confusion. 'Did you want the pirates to win?'
<Koaway> "Oh!" Jetina says, reddening, "I thought you meant after the battle was done!"
<Lucy> "Everyone who died had to," Lucy agrees absent-mindedly, before looking up. "Mister Rocky, what about the option of leasing the ship?"
<Koaway> "What was it? That was quite the testy chest," Rocky rubs his arms, "Scorched the shale right out of me!"
* Veren nods.
<Moore> "Several scrolls of prismatic-type spells." Moore responds.
<Veren > "The lock on it was.. frustrating."
<Pepo> 'No, when the battle was done there weren't any intact ships still in range,' Pepo says. 'But they got a lot before then. I hope it panicked other pirates into blindly attacking each other as well.'
<Koaway> That gets Rocky to whistle and snap his fingers, "Damn. Those are all high arcana. Too bad I hadn't managed to get it to open."
<Moore> "I'm sure we can work out a trade if you're interested." Moore says with a smile. "Actually, speaking of that... what happens to all of us now? We've all done a lot of discussing about how we fit in here, I would imagine that after our success we can probably work more easily with you and Miss Aria on matters?"
<Koaway> Jetina pets Pepo, a little slower this time. Meanwhile, Rocky goes on, "Anyway, tomorrow's a big celebration. You'll have places of honor," he says, "As for leasing a ship, I don't have an answer for you today. Too many boulders are still rolling down the side of the mountain."
<Veren > "Apparently I need to speak to Aria personally if I want to find work."
<Lucy> "Some of the captured crew might well be rehabilitated, and doing so in a familiar environment makes more sense. But certainly, we can wait for this, Mister Rocky."
<Koaway> "She'll be handling that tomorrow. Meet her at the library about an hour after city rising time," He hmms, "She said not to worry about breakfast, she'll provide a light one since the afternoon will have a feast."
* Veren nods.
<Moore> Moore nods. "I'll be happy to provide some entertainment at the feast, if there's room for it."
<Koaway> "Great," Rocky says, "Until tomorrow. Do what you want today - if you stay in the city, you'll have work to do the next time something like this happens," he chuckles.
* Koaway is now known as Kotono
<Kotono> "About damned time," Kamhoff grumbles as Rocky goes off, :Hey, all of you!"
<Lucy> "Yes, Mister Kamhoff?" Lucy asks politely.
<Kotono> "So," Gesturing about, "Are you all thinking about putting down roots here, eh?"
<Pepo> 'I don't really care for it,' Pepo admits.
<Moore> "I don't know if I would go that far. But it's always good to have allies that respect your strength and abilities."
<Lucy> "I like it," Lucy says honestly. "Hillmar is filled with mages! Actual mages!"
<Kotono> "I'm not sure," Jetina admits, "What about you, Moore?"
<Veren > "I think this is a good launching point for now. We've not seen the other major cities yet. I believe it may be a bit too early to make a decision like that."
<Kotono> OOC: Veren, not Moore. Dur.
<Kotono> Jetina mmms, "Say Pepo, what sort of city would make a cat happy, anyway?"
<Kotono> Kamhoff hmphs, "Well, let me know if you decide to. I don't like staying anywhere long."
<Pepo> 'I don't know, I haven't really seen many cities,' Pepo admits. 'Although I heard a description of the Breaches that sounded intriguing.'
<Veren > "I personally found Jetina's stories of her home interesting."
<Lucy> "Actually, Mister Kamhoff, it shouldn't be a problem with me either way. If you could just help me refine the way I teleport so that I could easily find the ship without wasteful movement, it hardly matters where I choose to sleep any day of the week."
<Kotono> "Hmmmmmmmmm." Kamhoff grunts at that, "Maybe so, maybe so. With teleport, distances matter less. If you can get Jetina to work a scroll of it out, you could visit her island without the long trip."
<Lucy> "Drastically increasing the range of the scrying beacon we have right now would do, as would establishing a similar link to one a mage shares with her familiar. That way, physical distance would never matter!"
<Kotono> "Going home..." Jetina murmurs that. Meanwhile...OOC: This seems to be winding down, so y'all ready to hop along a bit?
<Lucy> OOC: Sure
<Pepo> OOC: yep
<Kotono> OOC: Okay, few things to knock out before the next day IC. Pepo and Veren in here, Lucy in #evil and Moore in #terror.
<Kotono> ---
<Kotono> Later on that day, Veren is on deck practicing. Little and Bolethon are watching, while Pepo naps nearby. It was so good of Little to bring more fish. As the feline dreams of whatever cats fancy, "Ahem," A voice calls from off ship, before the gangplank. "Permission to come on board, sirs?"
* Veren pauses and looks over to see who/what is speaking.
<Pepo> Pepo also raises his head to take a disinterested look over.
<Kotono> An elf as short as a dwarf is there, male. He's dressed in finery and cloak, golden hair spilling over a purple cape. "Good day, sirs. I bear a message for Sir Veren and another for Sir Pepo."
* Veren raises an eyebrow at this.
<Veren > "You can come on deck."
<Pepo> Who on earth could send a message for him? Or even know his name? Pepo watches the dwarf suspiciously but doesn't speak.
<Kotono> Little hovers along, but keeps his trap shut.
<Kotono> "First off, Sir Veren?" He looks about, "Is Sir Veren here?"
<Veren > "That would be me."
<Kotono> "Here," A scroll is passed over to Veren. "Is Sir Pepo here?" He looks about.
* Veren points to Pepo.
<Pepo> Pepo doesn't make any visible reaction, just staring at the dwarf.
<Kotono> This doesn't seem to faze him, "This is a verbal message," he says, "I see why now. Sir Pepo, Sir John of the diviners wishes to inform you that danger lies ahead in two days' time for you, so that you may prepare properly."
* Veren opens his scroll at this and reads it.
<Pepo> 'Me specifically?' he finally deigns to address the dwarf since there's no avoiding it. And he takes danger seriously!
<Kotono> "Yes," The strange dwarf replies with a nod, "He suggests your own divinations on the matter."
<Pepo> 'Thank you for the warning,' he replies, intending to do just that.
<Kotono> Veren reads the scroll. A small gold insignia of a wizard's staff falls out as he does so, landing harmlessly on the ground. It reads as follows: Veren, this token will clear up any further problems with the city guard, should you have them. Present it to them (and a magistrate, if needed) and it'll clear up any problems. My thanks for saving Hillmar from sacking. John."
* Veren picks up the insignia.
<Veren > "Give my thanks to Sir John."
<Kotono> The servant nods deeply, "I will! Anything else?" OOC: Going to do some divining, Pepo?
<Veren > "If he needs assistance, let him know to call on me."
<Pepo> Assuming nothing further for him to do, Pepo resumes his repose but actually takes the time to perform a divination. The question of the moment being 'What will threaten me in two days' time?'
<Pepo> roll 1d100 6+ wild surge CL 10 divination
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 87 > 12 [d100=87]
* Veren places the insignia into one of the pockets in his vestments, making sure to be extra careful it doesn't get stolen.
<Kotono> OOC: Link me, Pepo?
<Pepo> http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/divination.htm
<Kotono> Pepo gets the following result, "What threatens is not from above but below you, be wary for what lies beyond your eyes."
<Pepo> Another divination! 'In two days will I be safer on a boat or on solid ground?'
<Pepo> roll 1d100 6+ wild surge CL 10 divination
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 25 > 12 [d100=25]
<Kotono> The reply Pepo gets is this, "The ground is ever solid and ever treacherous."
<Pepo> Then they just have to leave by the end of tomorrow! He'll go find Kamhoff to tell him the good news.
<Kotono> By chance, Pepo and Moore converge on Kamhoff at about the same time. He's in his bunk, reading from what's probably a spell book. Some big and thick leather tome. "What is it, I'm trying to read," he asks, barely even looking up.
<Pepo> 'We should leave before the end of tomorrow,' Pepo says. 'Otherwise something from the ground will try and kill me.'
<Moore> "Um, it's... about Macaron..." Moore says with what sounds like a rather pained voice.
<Kotono> "Really? More fucking problems? Well, nothing some magic can't fix," Kamhoff says, looking at Moore. He then frowns and utters a black, bleak curse. "Ah hell. He's gone, isn't he?"
<Moore> Moore nods solemnly. "I'm sorry. He... um... He said to thank you."
<Pepo> 'He is?' Pepo asks, hunching down a little. That dog had grown on him.
<Moore> He reaches up to wipe at his eyes again. Who knew something who just talked to him could have such an impact!
<Kotono> The old wizard slumps. All the energy seems to leave him, "Fuck," he mutters, voice broken-hearted. "Hah, that old mutt was holding out on some way to talk, wasn't he?"
<Moore> Moore nods. "He asked me to look after something for him."
<Pepo> Jumping up onto the bunk, Pepo curls up besides Kamhoff to offer what comfort he can. It'll be nice for him as well.
<Kotono> Pepo is absently petted, the old wizard getting up. "I doubt any of you can do anything, can you? Not about this?" He holds Pepo as he rises.
<Pepo> 'Nothing,' Pepo confirms, purring softly.
<Moore> "Um... I don't have that sort of power, but... I mean, we're in a city of mages, aren't we?" Moore says, sounding a little hopeful. "Maybe we could ask Miss Jetina, someone with Qupan might be able to...?"
<Kotono> "Why not?" Kamhoff agrees, going on. Finding Lucy and Jetina isn't hard -they're chatting in the galley. "Jetina," Kamhoff says, none of his normal bluster, "Can you or anyone in the city help the dead?"
<Lucy> "Help how?"
* Lucy surreptitiously looks around for who might be missing.
<Kotono> Jetina blinks at that, as if her train of thought was derailed. "I may be able to manage a reincarnate," she finally says, "I just practiced the idea of the spell, but it's still at the edge of my ability."
<Kotono> No sign of Veren, Bolethon or Little. Just Pepo, Kamhoff and Moore.
<Lucy> 'Who died?' Lucy mentally asks Pepo.
<Pepo> 'Macaron,' Pepo replies. 'He did look very old.'
<Lucy> 'This is true. And he made a habit of licking diseased people.'
<Kotono> "I'd like you to try," Kamhoff says, turning, "To my workshop."
<Kotono> The trip to Kamhoff's workshop is unremarkable. Macaron lies just where Moore left him. Jetina kneels next to the dog, checking him, "Still warm, but cooling," she says, giving his head one long pat. "Good dog," she murmurs.
<Pepo> Pepo looks intently at Macaron but doesn't move from Kamhoff's arms.
<Kotono> Kamhoff sighs again, "Just fucking try already."
<Lucy> "If I can help in some way, just say so," Lucy offers, keeping away for now.
<Kotono> "Be ready, these spells aren't predictable," Jetina says, holding her holy symbol. "It's a long incantation, so please be quiet."
<Kotono> Jetina chants - it's long, formal prayers about life and rebirth. Soft light surrounds her and Macaron as she works, long minutes drawn out. When at last she finishes the last prayer, "There's a gap," she murmurs, "It needs life. It needs a part of a still living life, the stronger, the better."
<Pepo> 'Like a sacrifice?' Pepo asks.
<Kotono> "Exactly," Jetina says.
<Pepo> 'I will volunteer,' he says, jumping out of Kamhoff's arms and approaching her.
<Moore> "I can help bolster your health..." Moore quietly offers.
<Lucy> "Oh, what the hell? I'm immortal, so what's better? I'll help out too," Lucy voices.
<Kotono> "Count me in," Kamhoff says immediately.
<Kotono> "If you're willing, lay a hand on me," Jetina says.
<Kotono> "Or paw," she appends a moment later.
<Pepo> Pepo reaches a paw up onto Jetina's knee.
* Lucy places her hand over the exposed skin of Jetina's arm.
<Moore> Moore flies over to lend a hand.
<Kotono> Kamhoff places a hand on Jetina's shoulder.
<Moore> OOC: I doubt it matters but Moore will switch to Demand Fortitude too.
<Kotono> roll 1d100
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 72 > 12 [d100=72]
<Kotono> Energy pours out of the party! At once a feeling of loss and weakness happens, as silvery light fills the room. Before you Macaron shudders and shifts, taking a breath. Then another and another! OOC: Loot.
<Kotono> Jetina gasps, "Wha...?" is all she gets out.
<Pepo> Lowering his paw, Pepo goes to lick Macaron on the nose. 'Welcome back.' Ewww, dogsnot. Well, it had to be done.
<Lucy> This was a stupid idea. Lucy stifles a sigh and just settles for looking exhausted.
<Moore> Moore rubs at an eye again and stumbles a bit and falls on his rump. Oof.
Session Close: Wed Jan 28 15:23:52 2015
This is not the greatest post in the world, no... this is just a tribute.
