Session Start: Wed Feb 11 13:30:04 2015
Session Ident: #dunes
* Now talking in #dunes
* Topic is 'Ithea(34)>Lief(33)>Muirfinn(31)>Kina-ja(26)>Antenora(25) '
* Set by Kotono on Thu Jan 29 20:02:43
<Lucy> First, Lucy casts Darkness upon the scrying beacon and lowers it into the Light on a length of rope to see whether Clairvoyance is impeded or enhanced by the spell. Then, judging by the results all they would need to do is be far enough from land to drop the beacon in and keep a watch through it as it falls. As its good for up to a mile, that should be fairly deep for a preliminary check.
<Kotono> After about 30ft into the light, the darkness spell collapses at the same time the clairvoyance spell winks out of existence.
<Lucy> "What do you think this means?" Lucy asks Pepo, reeling the beacon back in. "It seemed to work better at Freeport Rock, but that was a tunnel and not directly outside."
<Pepo> 'From the shore I felt something pressing against my light protections at around forty feet. I managed to reduce the light level at a deeper depth when I awoke after my clone vanished, though I certainly perceived some sort of pressure upon it, trying to undo my efforts.' He considers the matter further, 'I believe we may be better served by redundancy.' And then he lapses into thought.
<Pepo> OOC: take 10 for 31 on knowledges dungeoneering, engineering, geography, nature, psionics, and local : do I know of any stone/metal/crystalline materials that have properties of manipulating (preferably absorbing) illumination?
<Lucy> "Redundancy," Lucy repeats thoughtfully. "Mister Pepo, I just had a ridiculous thought. What if we were to exert a mental influence upon one another? In that case, even should any creatures from the Light try to affect us we might be able to contest their influence should one of us resist it."
<Kotono> There's various crystalline compounds that can do so, such as treated deep crystal, but it takes effort to obtain. The veils work on a low scale, but they don't protect against the actual radiance when you're in it. It's just too strong. The best bet would be treated deep crystal, but from local Pepo also knows that it's likely been tried before. It's not that rare.
<Pepo> OOC: can I create treated deep crystal with major creation? If not can I treat deep crystal within a period of 50 minutes?
<Kotono> OOC: Link me?
<Pepo> OOC: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/majorCreation.htm
<Kotono> OOC: Yes.
<Pepo> 'That may have potential. However I have another idea - I can create a mass of crystal with light absorbing properties. Coupled with your darkness, it might have better success penetrating deeper.'
<Lucy> "For encasing the beacon in it, or to carry with us?"
<Pepo> 'I would prefer to use the beacon first, though it could prove useful when we make tests in person,' Pepo says. 'I will produce a large amount, and if mass or weight are concerns some of it can be broken off.' Thus Pepo settles down to produce ten cubic feet of treated deep crystal, arranged in a serpentine manner that should be brittle enough to break parts off at need.
<Kotono> OOC: This'll go without incident, spent the PP and set up the probe again.
<Lucy> "Works," Lucy agrees curtly, appropriating a veil to use as an impromptu net to secure the beacon and a few crystal fragments. And as a plus, the veil, the beacon and each fragment will get their own Darkness spell, followed by her releasing it into the Light once more. "Maybe we could force Bolethon to talk to us?" she muses as it descends under her magical watch. "If we tell him it's either
<Lucy> the truth or we go there in person-- or maybe find other Light Mages here?"
<Kotono> OOC: Perception, Lucy.
<Lucy> roll 1d20+23
<Serith> Lucy roll for Serith < 42 > 12 [d20=19]
<Pepo> 'I would not be willing to go to the lengths required to force him to talk,' Pepo says. Even if this is all fake, Bolethon's done alright by him.
<Kotono> The beacon goes down 60ft before the spells around it shatter, as well as the deep crystal. There's a blur of something for a split second. A blur of chains, before the clairvoyance fades. It's incredibly fast, but Lucy's superhumanly sharp eyesight catches it.
<Lucy> "Chains," Lucy murmurs, trying to pull it back in. "Chains, and then the magic broke. And just at sixty feet." She winces. "Trying to get one of the resident light mages to talk sounds like a more appealing option."
<Kotono> The beacon is pulled back up. It is dented and scraped, the entire thing looking battered.
<Pepo> 'I heard more chains and footsteps when I fled my captor. There could be legions of them down there,' Pepo says.
<Lucy> "How horrifying."
<Kotono> Meanwhile, Moore and Veren return to the ship and come on deck.
<Veren > OOC: Is Kamhoff on deck?
<Kotono> OOC: No, just the four of you.
* Veren approaches the others.
<Veren > "Any better ideas?"
<Lucy> "The Light is filled with legions of chain-wielding horrors residing as close as sixty feet away," Lucy says, showing the battered beacon for good measure. "Probably."
* Veren eyes the beacon for any clues he spot, even if only just the type of weapons used.
<Pepo> 'We have two samples suggesting it,' Pepo says. Then he looks at the big mass of deep crystal. 'Can someone push that overboard?' he asks. Just 'cause.
<Veren > "That is... unsettling indeed."
* Veren moves to toss the crystal over.
<Kotono> OOC: Pause right there, all of you.
<Kotono> The party is at the rear of the ship, towards the sea of light. As Veren goes to pick up the crystal, there is a loud CRACK! Abruptly the ship breaks in two down the middle, both pieces tilting inwards towards the see of light. OOC: Acrobatics, all.
<Pepo> roll 1d20+21
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 34 > 12 [d20=13]
<Veren > roll 1d20+20 Acrobatics
<Serith> Veren roll for Serith < 40 > 12 [d20=20]
<Lucy> 'Jetina!' Lucy cries out mentally, leaping as high up as she can manage to buy herself a moment to transform. 'Kamhoff! Bolethon! Dog!' If any of them answer, it would be time for a teleport towards their location to grab at them.
<Lucy> roll 1d20+12
<Serith> Lucy roll for Serith < 15 > 12 [d20=3]
<Moore> roll 1d20+14
<Serith> Moore roll for Serith < 34 > 12 [d20=20]
<Kotono> Three are quick enough to brace themselves and stay up. Lucy isn't so lucky. She slips before she can leap up, tumbling down in a dramatic heap towards the crack in the middle of the ship - and into the light! OOC: More in a moment, Lucy into #evildunes. Also some damage dice coming to Lucy, but in #evildunes.
<Kotono> The ship shudders end to end, slowly starting to sink down. OOC: Act, y'all.
<Pepo> Pepo bounds down towards the Light, digging his claws in so he doesn't go any deeper, and then he reduces the light level around the break in the ship from port to starboard and as far down as he can control it!
<Pepo> OOC: 42 ten foot cubed sections, darkening 100%
<Veren > OOC: Just Moore and me on deck now, right?
<Kotono> OOC: And Pepo.
<Moore> Moore casts Detect Good to hopefully help find the others in case they're still on the boat!
<Veren > "I'll go down and try to help the others."
* Veren moves to go below decks to find the others.
<Kotono> The light is lessened. It lets you see better. Moore can detect good below decks - they must be down there. Meanwhile Veren heads on down as. At the same time, you can see Lucy just above the crack in the center of the ship. She's trying to fly out, but a chain is wrapped around her leg. She simply goes limp, starting to fall and be dragged down.
<Pepo> Pepo jumps straight down onto Lucy and scratches her in an effort to rouse her! No time to be gentle!
<Pepo> roll 1d20+15 scratch!
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 35 > 12 [d20=20]
<Pepo> roll 1d20+15 CRITICAL SCRATCH
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 24 > 12 [d20=9]
<Lucy> OOC: AC23, 19 if flat footed
<Pepo> roll 2d2-2
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 1 > 12 [d2=1,2]
<Kotono> OOC: 2 damage, minimum of 1 damage per die.
<Kotono> OOC: Veren and Moore, go ahead and act, even if it's just going downstairs to try and save others.
<Moore> Moore flies with Veren and will direct him to where the detect good says the others are!
* Veren continues down, trusting in Pepo and Lucy's strength and knowing that Kamhoff certainly needs help, and Jetina's luck means she probably does too!
<Kotono> OOC: You two into 3terror. I'll deal with rescue kitty in here.
<Kotono> Lucy is scratched. It doesn't stir her, despite drawing blood. However, it stops it - as a chain rises up for Pepo! OOC: Init, Pepo. No Moore bonus now, remember.
<Pepo> roll 1d20+6 also the light went back to normal when I attacked, since control light is concentration
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 11 > 12 [d20=5]
<Kotono> roll 1d20+6
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 9 > 12 [d20=3]
* Kotono changes topic to 'Pepo(11)>Pepo that is not Pepo(9) '
<Kotono> OOC: Fort, Pepo.
<Pepo> roll 1d20+10
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 11 > 12 [d20=1]
<Kotono> The resurgent light is too much. Pepo's eyes scream with pain as his vision becomes nothing but light. OOC Blinded, Pepo. Act.
<Pepo> OOC: hey, I do have adapt body!
<Kotono> OOC: As in active?
<Pepo> OOC: yes, it lasts hours
<Kotono> OOC: You're not blind then.
<Pepo> Since lowering the light level doesn't work anymore, Pepo resorts to brute force with a ray of sonic power blasting at the one holding Lucy's chains!
<Pepo> roll 1d100 wild surge
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 100 > 12 [d100=100]
<Pepo> roll 1d20+15-4 assuming I can fight defensively with rays, otherwise ignore the -4. touch, and augmented 9pp
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 20 > 12 [d20=9]
<Pepo> roll 11d6-11 sonic
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 33 > 12 [d6=4,5,5,4,5,4,6,2,2,4,3]
<Kotono> The chain is hit dead on! It shatters, freeing Lucy. She hits the deck and starts to fall, as Lucy awakens! OOC: You'll join init at the end of the round, Lucy. You're still blind.
<Kotono> Meanwhile, the chain that rose up goes right for Pepo.
<Kotono> roll 1d20+13 touch AC, Pepo
<Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 31 > 12 [d20=18]
<Pepo> OOC: 21
<Kotono> OOC: Will save. Good luck.
<Pepo> roll 1d20+9 +2 if compulsion/lawful
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 18 > 12 [d20=9]
<Kotono> But somehow Pepo manages to keep himself from...something. He isn't sure what, even as the chains wrap around him. OOC: Grappled. Join init, Lucy.
<Lucy> roll 1d20+4
<Serith> Lucy roll for Serith < 11 > 12 [d20=7]
* Kotono changes topic to 'Pepo=Lucy(11)>Pepo that is not Pepo(9) '
<Kotono> OOC: Go Pepo'n'Lucy.
<Lucy> "Dammit! Where is it?!" Lucy exclaims, progressively getting angrier she slowly slides down the deck.
<Pepo> 'Below!' is about all Pepo can tell her without grabbing her hand and pointing. Employing his natural understanding of chaos, he makes himself more elusive while at the same time firing another sound ray at the chain that's grabbed onto him!
<Pepo> roll 1d100 wild surge
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 98 > 12 [d100=98]
<Kotono> OOC: Can you actually manifest all grappled?
<Pepo> OOC: might need concentration, lemme check
<Lucy> It's all Lucy needs to hear! A beat of her wings sends her flying up, while their afterimages assault the area below and in the direction of Pepo's mental voice. She tries to angle them to miss him while coming as close as she can, but at this point it would be a matter of luck.
<Pepo> roll 1d20+18 concentration DC 20 + level (in this case 1, so DC 21)
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 29 > 12 [d20=11]
<Pepo> roll 1d20+15-4 fighting defensively, anarchic grace gives 20% miss chance, augmented 9pp
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 12 > 12 [d20=1]
<Pepo> OOC: 4 rounds on anarchic grace, dazed one round at the end of it
<Lucy> roll 10d6 wings of flurry, force, ref DC25 for half and to avoid daze
<Serith> Lucy roll for Serith < 28 > 12 [d6=5,2,3,4,1,1,2,1,3,6]
<Pepo> OOC: I'm on Lucy herself, so that may affect targeting. Like her shoulder or somewhere. Unless the chain just yanks me down when she flies up.
Session Close: Wed Feb 11 14:56:53 2015
This is not the greatest post in the world, no... this is just a tribute.
