Session Start: Mon Feb 16 12:07:39 2015
Session Ident: #sonofdunes
* Now talking in #sonofdunes
<Kotono> <Lucy> "I learned that from the sword we found in the forest," Lucy says dismissively. 'Vampire, run ahead to scout and report to me!' she directs the smarter of her minions, before telling Jetina, "I can't see. This was quite literally the only spell I could use."
<Kotono> > The vampire runs ahead. It's a cave tunnel - nothing remarkable. Meanwhile, hands touch Lucy as her vision returns. OOC: Blindness cured. You can see.
<Kotono> * Lucy gasps loudly in relief, and hugs Jetina with all her meager strength! "Oh thank you! It was terrible, not being able to see at all! And going from being pulled by those chains into the light, to being knocked out, to this creepy thing trying to kill me--"
<Kotono> "This place is cursed," Jetina shudders, "Why are the walking dead here? Why are there dozens of copies of my body? I don't know, but I hate it."
* Lucy lets go of Jetina after planting a chaste kiss on her cheek, and cranes her neck to stare at her back. "Yes, definitely going to need new clothes," she muses, before pulling her tail closer and brushing off the crumpled pink bow tied upon its end.
<Lucy> 'Can you remember anything before you came here?' Lucy thinks to her vampire before it has a chance to expire, asking Jetina out loud, "Dozens of copies? Can you show me? I can see again!"
<Kotono> The tail and wings get a look, but Jetina doesn't seem of a mind to make anything of it. "Why in Qupan's name are the dead working with you right now, though?"
<Lucy> "They're horrible, right?" Lucy asks bluntly. "It's the most horrible thing to fight them. We saw that in the forest of death! So I learned how to do that to my enemies with magic. Don't worry, they'll go away soon."
<Kotono> "You shouldn't do that," Jetina cautions, "It's wrong to summon the dead like that. The dead should lie and be silent."
<Lucy> "I realize this is not the best place to discuss this," Lucy muses, looking around with her mage sight, "but neither vampires nor mummies are not particularly restful, are they? It's not as if I'm disturbing some soul or corpse from resting. I could see that argument, but these ones are probably off causing trouble somewhere unless summoned to kill our enemies."
<Kotono> "It's still wrong...but for another time," Jetina finally relents with a tired shake of her head, "Come down this way then."
<Lucy> "Okay!"
<Kotono> The passage ahead goes on for some time, then to a turn and a four way intersection. It's quiet here as Jetina leads you to the west and a dead end, save for a single door. It's a jail door, with throbbing darkness in between the bars, allowing you to see nothing. "They're in there," she says.
* Lucy pushes the door open, looking for magic once more.
<Kotono> The door's magical - and not opening, for that matter. OOC: Spellcraft on it if you want.
<Lucy> roll 1d20+18
<Serith > Lucy roll for Serith < 19 > 12 [d20=1]
<Lucy> "Did you lock it behind you?"
<Kotono> "No," Jetina says, as Lucy can't figure out how the magic works. She goes to the door and pushes it, but it doesn't move. "That's wrong! It wasn't locked a few minutes ago!"
<Lucy> "Let's break it?" Lucy proposes with a shrug. "And by us I mean you unless you want me to summon some help?"
<Kotono> Jetina cracks her knuckles, "I suppose myself at first. Let me throw my shoulder into it." At that, Jetina rears back and gives the door a hard body check.
<Kotono> roll 1d20+2
<Serith > Kotono roll for Serith < 13 > 12 [d20=11]
<Kotono> WHAM! But the door doesn't budge, followed by Jetina groaning, "OW!"
<Lucy> "But-- you have a magic sword!" Lucy exclaims, perplexed. "Why would you do this the hard way?"
<Kotono> Rubbing her shoulder and wincing, "...I'd forgotten, since I'm in the mind that I don't have one," Jetina admits, taking to the door with it.
<Kotono> OOC: More.
<Kotono> The door soon gives way, hacked open. Within is...Lucy. Lucy many times. Dozens of Lucy's are stacked up like firewood. Each looks alive, save for a strange lifelessness in the eyes.
<Lucy> "Wow!" Lucy blinks, and then peers closer with that same magical sight. She approaches the nearest Lucy, and then pinches her experimentally.
<Kotono> The clone Lucy feels warm, but there's no reaction. Jetina watches and shivers, "Creepy," she mutters, before turning away.
<Lucy> "You know," Lucy muses, running her hand over a clone languidly, "with my curse, this is making me quite conflicted."
<Kotono> "Uh." Jetina turns around and grimaces, "Could you stop touching my duplicate like that?"
* Lucy stops instinctively. "What do you mean? They're my duplicates." She grabs a loveable horn with one hand and the tip of her tail with the other. "See?"
<Kotono> Jetina closes her eyes and sighs, "No, you're patting my head and my clone's rear," she says pointedly, "They're my duplicates!"
* Lucy frowns. "Let us assume for a moment that magic allows us both to be correct," she muses, growing thoughtful. "If this were a simple illusion, I would not feel my tail in my hand, whereas you would simply see me holding onto nothing but air. Since, however, you are under the delusion that my hand is touching your rear the deception must be quite a ways stronger. Extraordinary!"
<Kotono> "Could you..." Jetina sighs again, rubbing her face, "Let go of my rear already? Or your tail. Whichever it is."
<Lucy> "How about an experiment?" Lucy proposes, dutifully letting go and taking Jetina's hand instead. "I'm going to guide it over to one of my double's wings, and then slide it all the way towards its body until it reaches the shoulder blade. Let's see if we feel the same thing, since your double would have nothing but air there!"
<Kotono> "Alright," Jetina says, "That sounds reasonable enough." Her expression is somewhat dubious, though.
<Lucy> "Just remember! If it feels impossible, it's an illusion! So try really hard to see past it!"
<Kotono> Thus the two go. To Lucy, it feels exactly as she thinks it should be. Jetina's hand goes along, "I feel my shoulder. No wing," she says, "It feels real to me."
* Lucy takes Jetina's other hand and places it on the other side of that shoulder, as far as she can see. "What about this one?"
<Kotono> "Same again, except with my other shoulder," Jetina says, looking over the clone Lucy's back carefully.
<Lucy> "How strange. How about this?" Lucy extends her clone's wings more fully, and then spreads her arms as wide as she can to still reach them and places Jetina's hands over their tips. "Do you still feel you're holding onto your shoulders?"
<Kotono> "Yes, I'm holding onto my clone's shoulders," Jetina admits, then drops her hands. "If this is magic, it's strong enough to affect both of your perceptions differently and at the same time. That's really strong magic."
<Lucy> "You held your arms wide like this!" Lucy exclaims, demonstrating for good measure. "There is no way your spread arms will be touching your own shoulders!" She then peers at Jetina curiously to see if that changes her perception any.
<Kotono> "My arms were like this," Jetina gestures in a much more conservative way, before shivering, "That's creepy again. This entire place is cursed."
<Lucy> "Definitely powerful magic," Lucy says wistfully, backing out of the room after leaving a clairvoyance sensor there. "So fill me in. What's the last thing you remember before ending up here? And what happened after you got here? How did you know where to find me? Did you find anything else? I know you need to eat, so do you have any supplies? What about Mister Kamhoff and the others? I
<Lucy> tried calling out to you all before and after, and no one answered...."
<Kotono> Jetina holds a hand up and clears her throat. "AHEM! I remember fleeing the ship, I found you by pure chance. I'm not hungry or thirsty yet, but with my holy symbol I can conjure food and water anyway."
* Lucy nods, retracing her steps to the intersection. "Now, we came from there," she points in one direction, "and back here is a strange dead end. Which of the other directions have you tried earlier?"
<Kotono> "North leads to where I woke up. Nothing there," Jetina points to the east, "That's the only way left that I haven't explored."
<Lucy> "Did you check it for magic?" Lucy muses. "If so, we'll go east. If not, let's take care of the north first."
<Kotono> Jetina nods, "I did, it was ordinary," she says.
<Lucy> "Alright then!" She pauses for a moment to summon a shadowy suit of armor around herself that melts from sight a moment later, and leads the way east while looking ahead with Detect Magic.
<Kotono> Ahead you find a dead end. Here it simply stops - all that is ahead is pure nothingness. A void that stretches as far as you can see, a sheer emptiness.
<Lucy> roll 1d20+18
<Serith > Lucy roll for Serith < 26 > 12 [d20=8]
<Kotono> Ahead is void. Sheer emptiness. As if all reality came to a stop here.
<Lucy> "So this is the end of the world!" Lucy cheerfully announces, before counting on her fingers. "I can summon a shadow to peek through walls in case one is a door pretending to be a wall. I can bring forth a scary hound to sniff out any hiding spots. Or I could try to teleport out, but it will leave you here alone if I succeed and can't get back, or if I get redirected to some creepy place
<Lucy> again and forget all about it! Preferences?"
<Kotono> "Try and find another way?" Jetina visibly shivers and looks away, "Qupan help me, looking at that chills my blood and freezes my bones." A split second later she says, "OW!"
* Lucy turns to look at Jetina with that same mage sight.
<Lucy> "I am a wizard," Lucy tells Jetina patiently. "I do not dig passageways or skulk in alleyways -- except that one time -- and I don't know how to find hidden passageways. I hire people for that. When impossible or impractical, I summon things for that. This is what being a wizard is all about." She frowns. "I suppose I could wait for a day if you wanted to ask Qupan for guidance, since I
<Lucy> have all the time in the world."
<Kotono> "Lucy." Jetina turns, meeting her eyes despite a wince of pain, "When we find ourselves in these situations, we can shed our pride and swim, or wear it and drown. Surely there's something better than that...darkness."
<Lucy> "Oh." Lucy blinks. "Well yes. There is no need to just leap into it. But what I am saying is that if another way is here, it is hidden so cleverly my eyes cannot perceive it. Therefore, I have entirely the wrong skillset to search deeper, and barring teleporting away on my own I can only summon experts to do it for me. Unless you are one such expert, which with your magic might actually be
<Lucy> possible, do you have a preference for which method to take? Intangibility or scent?"
<Kotono> Here Jetina sighs long, "My best idea is to check everything inch by inch. It'll take a great deal of time, but..."
<Lucy> "Let's start with the shadows, then," Lucy says reasonably. "We shall begin from the place you found yourself in first, and work out way towards the central point. I will have a shadow enter a wall and travel ten feet away from us. Should it find anything, it would be a distance we can break with the means available to us."
<Kotono> OOC: Okay. So that's your plan?
<Lucy> OOC: Summon two allips at Jetina's spawning point, send one to the right and below, the other to the left and above and follow on my own down the path while keeping in contact while we move at top speed. Refresh the summons after 12 rounds twice for a total of 36 rounds. See how far we get to the central area. If we do get there, we'll continue east.
<Kotono> Thus Lucy makes the summons. They go out - and in seconds they're torn apart. Burned, frozen, scald, shocked and shook apart. The backlash of pain from it is enough to make Lucy shudder.
<Lucy> "The walls eat ghosts," Lucy says, a disturbed expression upon her face. "Good to know. Ah, to hell with it!" She retraces her steps to the central area and snaps her fingers; this time, the summons come for two shadowy wolves, each of which dashes into a different direction with explicit orders to stop and paw at the wall if they find anything of note or just scent something. She yells
<Lucy> for Jetina to follow the one heading back north, while she goes along with the wolf headed for the spot she appeared in this strange place.
<Kotono> Ironically, it's at where Lucy started that she finds something. The wolf paws at a section of the wall, sniffing away.
* Lucy peers at it!

This is not the greatest post in the world, no... this is just a tribute.
