[20:14] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> Once back in the streets, T murmurs quietly, "So now what?"
[20:14] <@Annerose> "We go after the dragon, of course."
[20:15] <@Erad> Erad nods in agreement. "I think we can trust that Windor isn't going to hinder us at this point."
[20:15] <@Inari> "Well first of all I'm going to protect us all from acid," Inari says, a couple of castings of mass resist energy handling that. OOC: 4 people per casting so 2 should get Inari, T, Erad, Annerose, Helena, and Rock. Acid Resist 20.
[20:16] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> "Yeah, more worried up the chain," T says, "Lord Arnam's mixed up in it, so this could get real ugly.
[20:16] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> "
[20:17] <@Annerose> "It might just be time for him to retire."
[20:18] <@Inari> "If he's made himself subservient to a dragon it sounds like he's cast off the responsibilities of his office."
[20:18] <@Erad> "Yes, let's just go and bring them the light of the Torch Bearers. I think this is a situation where the need to act trumps any need for concern over politics." Erad says.
[20:19] <@Annerose> "We cannot in good conscience leave behind a leader sacrificing his own people," Annerose reasons.
[20:21] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> "Exactly. We go and fight," Helena says, "There's absolutely no other choice at all."
[20:22] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> T sighs a little bit, "Bloodthirsty as can be. Not that you're wrong here, but...nevermind." He says, "Let's get going before they know we're coming, fi that's not already gone." OOC: Any plan for the approach?
[20:23] <@Erad> OOC: I think we just go to the location and bust in. We're not really a stealthy group.
[20:24] <@Inari> OOC: yeah, lets do it all in the open
[20:25] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> OOC: Okay.
[20:25] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> roll 1d100
[20:25] <Kobot> Ko-EndlessTerror rolled 1d100 --> [ 1d100=41 ]{41}
[20:25] <@Inari> OOC: I'll cast sign on the way there as well
[20:27] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> The trip to the manor's unremarkable - as much as a trip with this group ever is. It's in the nicer part of town, a wide green lawn all around it, impeccably kept. Several groundskeepers work away - pulling weeds, trimming the grass, maintaining trees and so on and so forth. The building itself is large and sprawling, a two story affair that takes up lots of space. It's gray stone with white
[20:27] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> and blue sections, eschewing a castle's defensive structure and windows in favor of wide glass windows.
[20:28] <@Erad> "You think there's a basement where all the weird stuff goes on?" Erad asks as they go along. "Or just that these people outside never go inside?"
[20:29] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> "Probably one or the other," T remarks, "Take your pick, take your chances."
[20:29] <@Inari> "There's surely a basement and escape tunnels and all sorts," Inari says, casting protection from evil on herself and advancing to the front door.
[20:32] <@Erad> "I suppose we'll see who decides to puff out their chest to stop us." Erad says.
[20:32] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> The groundskeepers give the strange party a few casual looks, but no one seems intersted in a fox girl, two yuki-onna, a troll and T. The front door's closed, a grand affair of cherry wood.
[20:34] <@Inari> Inari opens the door! Or tries to anyway. Do people lock their doors nowadays? They didn't back in her day but it's a different time now, isn't it?
[20:37] * @Annerose summons her cold in preparation.
[20:37] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> It's locked. Meanwhile Erad also gets a few glances, but along the same lines.
[20:38] <@Inari> Inari knocks on the door! And then casts animalistic power on herself.
[20:39] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> The door opens moments later. A butler is there, an old man with well trimmed mustasche and beard. "Good day," he doesn't even miss a beat, "What business do you have here, sir and madams?"
[20:40] <@Erad> Hey, it's worked before, so Erad casts detect evil!
[20:41] <@Inari> "We're here to inspect your house for dragons," Inari answers likewise with no beats skipped.
[20:47] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> "I'm sorry, we don't have time for lunatics. Good day." The door is promptly shut in the party's face.
[20:48] <@Erad> "Has the time for diplomacy passed?" Erad asks.
[20:48] <@Annerose> "Wait!" Annerose calls out, trying to charm her way into the butler's graces.
[20:48] <@Annerose> OOC: Will dc19
[20:48] <@Inari> Inari puts her foot in the door! Literally.
[20:49] <@Erad> Erad's too focused on his detecting evil concentration to do much!
[20:50] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> roll 1d20+8
[20:50] <Kobot> Ko-EndlessTerror rolled 1d20+8 --> [ 1d20=13 ]{21}
[20:50] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> The butler doesn't stop - and slams the door right against Inari's foot. (More)
[20:50] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> roll 1d20+11 AC?
[20:50] <Kobot> Ko-EndlessTerror rolled 1d20+11 AC? --> [ 1d20=6 ]{17}
[20:51] <@Inari> OOC: 25, 27 if he's evil!
[20:52] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> But Inari's strong foot takes the slam safely enough, preventing the door from being shut. Erad can detect evil auras somewhere in the area as, "Excuse me!" The butler calls, rather loudly, "Please don't make me call the guard on you young folk!"
[20:53] <@Annerose> It never works, Annerose chides herself, even as she tries to freeze the man in place!
[20:53] <@Annerose> OOC: Hold Monster Will DC23
[20:53] <@Inari> "Oh go right ahead, we could do with some backup," Inari says, pushing the door open and marching past the butler. "Either that or get out of our way."
[20:55] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> The butler leaps back, Annerose's hold monster not seeming to have any affect. He lands 20ft away, a grand entry room with stairs going up behind him and doors in both directions. "I see you're uncivilized curs," he retorts, "Intruders!" His form begins to shift, facial hair vanishing and green scales rising all over his visible flesh. OOC: Init here.
[20:56] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> roll 1d20+6 T
[20:56] <Kobot> Ko-EndlessTerror rolled 1d20+6 T --> [ 1d20=9 ]{15}
[20:56] <@Erad> "Oh, I knew this was going to be fun." Erad says with a grin.
[20:56] <@Erad> roll 1d20+2
[20:56] <Kobot> Erad rolled 1d20+2 --> [ 1d20=1 ]{3}
[20:56] <@Inari> roll 1d20+8 lets use sign
[20:56] <Kobot> Inari rolled 1d20+8 lets use sign --> [ 1d20=15 ]{23}
[20:56] <@Inari> OOC: +1 from my upped dex
[20:56] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> roll 1d20+7 Helena
[20:57] <Kobot> Ko-EndlessTerror rolled 1d20+7 Helena --> [ 1d20=11 ]{18}
[20:57] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> OOC: -1 to Helena.
[20:57] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> roll 1d20+1 Rock
[20:57] <Kobot> Ko-EndlessTerror rolled 1d20+1 Rock --> [ 1d20=9 ]{10}
[20:57] <@Annerose> roll 1d20+5+5
[20:57] <Kobot> Annerose rolled 1d20+5+5 --> [ 1d20=14 ]{24}
[20:57] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> roll 1d20+6 butler
[20:57] <Kobot> Ko-EndlessTerror rolled 1d20+6 butler --> [ 1d20=9 ]{15}
[20:58] * Ko-EndlessTerror changes topic to 'Inari=Annerose(24)>Helena(17)>T=Butler(15)>Rock(10)>Erad(Miko)'
[20:58] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> OOC: Inari and Annerose opens. Inari's just in the door and the rest of the party's still outside.
[20:58] <@Annerose> "I don't want to hear that from a vampire dragon!" Annerose snaps, giving Inari the chance to get inside before intending to follow her.
[20:59] <@Inari> "Oh, this makes things easy," Inari says as a ball of foxfire coalesces around her before zipping off to splash against the revealed half dragon. She wouldn't want to hurt a mere butler, but a half dragon guard is another story! After that she steps in and to the side to let everyone else through.
[20:59] <@Inari> roll 1d20+11 ranged touch
[20:59] <Kobot> Inari rolled 1d20+11 ranged touch --> [ 1d20=13 ]{24}
[20:59] <@Inari> roll 8d6 fire

[20:59] <@Inari> roll 1d4 cooldown
[20:59] <Kobot> Inari rolled 1d4 cooldown --> [ 1d4=3 ]{3}
[20:59] <@Annerose> With the way now clear, Annerose charges in to flash-freeze the burning half-dragon!
[21:00] <@Annerose> roll 1d20+9 not actually charging~
[21:00] <Kobot> Annerose rolled 1d20+9 not actually charging~ --> [ 1d20=6 ]{15}
[21:00] <@Annerose> roll 1d20+14 K:A
[21:00] <Kobot> Annerose rolled 1d20+14 K:A --> [ 1d20=17 ]{31}
[21:00] <@Annerose> OOC: +4 to that, so 19 vs touch
[21:01] <@Annerose> roll 2d6+3+4+2d6 cold
[21:01] <Kobot> Annerose rolled 2d6+3+4+2d6 cold --> [ 2d6=5 2d6=7 ]{19}
[21:03] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> Fire hits the butler dead on, setting him ablaze - only for pure ice to freeze him and put out the fires. He starts to writhe before he shakes all over, half burnt and half frozen. "I-" he begins, before Helena comes barreling through like a rampaging Rock.
[21:03] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> roll 1d20+13 (+2 charge)
[21:03] <Kobot> Ko-EndlessTerror rolled 1d20+13 (+2 charge) --> [ 1d20=13 ]{26}
[21:03] <@Annerose> "You should have been nicer while answering the door!"
[21:03] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> roll 1d6+5+2d6
[21:03] <Kobot> Ko-EndlessTerror rolled 1d6+5+2d6 --> [ 1d6=1 2d6=9 ]{15}
[21:05] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> The butler catches the shield with his chest, which causes a predictable crunching of ribs and bone. He collapses him a heap, bleeding from the spikes on her shield.  T strolls in after that, "Well, one down at least," he remarks. Rock stomps in as well and snifs the air, "Strong." OOC: Go Erad. No visible and active enemy but still in init.
[21:06] <@Erad> Erad will move in but continue to focus on his detect evil, knowing that there are more coming. "We should probably move somewhere so they can't come at us from every direction."
[21:10] <@Annerose> "Pick a way, we'll follow?"
[21:10] <@Erad> Erad nods, trying to focus on where the largest concentration of evil is coming from for now!
[21:10] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> There's an evil aura around the downed butler. As Erad studies it, a side door is thrown open. 15ft to the left of the party is a dragonman, wearing only black cloth pants. He cracks his claw's knuckles, "Oh look," he drawls in Draconic, "Victims." OOC: He's joining init.
[21:11] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> OOC: People, when I say we're still in init, wait for me to give the free act before acting like that. Line just took me a sec due to something.
[21:11] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> roll 1d20+5 dragonman
[21:11] <Kobot> Ko-EndlessTerror rolled 1d20+5 dragonman --> [ 1d20=19 ]{24}
[21:11] * Ko-EndlessTerror changes topic to 'Dragonman=Inari=Annerose(24)>Helena(17)>T=Butler(15)>Rock(10)>Erad(Miko)'
[21:11] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> OOC: Dragonman, Inari and Annerose all act at once. Go.
[21:12] <@Inari> Feeling generous after setting the butler on fire, Inari espouses her divine virtues to all so they can be bolstered by them! Especially if they buy into what she's selling.
[21:12] * @Annerose gestures at the new dragon and a spear of ice forms as an extension of her hand to stike at him!
[21:13] <@Annerose> roll 1d20+10+4 touch
[21:13] <Kobot> Annerose rolled 1d20+10+4 touch --> [ 1d20=16 ]{30}
[21:13] <@Inari> OOC: recitation, +2 luck to attack/ac/saves, +3 if faithful
[21:13] <@Annerose> roll 1d8+3+4 cold
[21:13] <Kobot> Annerose rolled 1d8+3+4 cold --> [ 1d8=3 ]{10}
[21:16] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> The dragon's stabbed, a shallow wound that barely seems to phase him. At the same time he's rushing forward, fists exploding with acid as he charges Erad. "Weak fool," he snarls in Draconic.

[21:19] <Kobot> Inari rolled 1d8+7 if that hit --> [ 1d8=3 ]{10}
[21:19] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> roll 1d6+9
[21:19] <Kobot> Ko-EndlessTerror rolled 1d6+9 --> [ 1d6=4 ]{13}
[21:19] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> OOC: AoO Erad. hHe took a bad risk and it's paying off on him. Painfully.
[21:20] <@Erad> roll 1d20+14
[21:20] <Kobot> Erad rolled 1d20+14 --> [ 1d20=14 ]{28}

[21:20] <@Erad> roll 3d6+3+2+1d6 since I'm sure he's evil
[21:20] <Kobot> Erad rolled 3d6+3+2+1d6 since I'm sure he's evil --> [ 3d6=7 1d6=2 ]{14}
[21:21] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> Stab, stab. He takes all of it dead on, until Erad's fist meets his face. From the loud CRACK to the way he drops like a puppet with its strings cut, one can imagine his skull and his brain have now become one unit. Suffice to say, he's looking rather dead. Free act.
[21:21] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> OOC: Free act.
[21:21] <@Erad> "Idiot." Erad says with a scoff.
[21:22] <@Annerose> "Yes, well." Annerose shrugs. "I'm sure it made sense to him." She moves to the very door that the newest enemy rushed out of.
[21:22] <@Inari> "He probably thought that would go differently..." Inari says distantly, looking at the post-mortem twitching of the dragonman. "Well, onward!" she says, following Annerose.
[21:23] <@Erad> "If they all get attracted to me like that, maybe we can use it to our advantage." Erad suggests as he follows after the others. Trying to detect evil here isn't going to work because of the sheer number of them, so he just gives up for now.
[21:27] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> Rock sniffs the air, taking Inari by the arm and shaking her. "Smell?"
[21:28] <@Inari> "Oh, good idea!" Inari says, pausing. "Wait a second Annerose," she asks, sniffing to see where the dragon smell is the strongest.
[21:28] * @Annerose just peers in the other room for now, waiting on Rock.
[21:29] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> OOC: Survival real quick and then I'm replying ot you, Annerose.
[21:29] <@Inari> roll 1d20+12
[21:29] <Kobot> Inari rolled 1d20+12 --> [ 1d20=11 ]{23}
[21:30] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> Annerose goes to the next door. It connects to a curving hallway, a few doors along it. One of the doors is open, a female dragon-humanoid peeking out. She sees Annerose and snarls, dropping a bedsheet that had covered her body. Unclad and uncaring, she leaps at Annerose with fury. Meanwhile, Inari can smell the acrid, powerful scent of the dragonmen. It's all over, but strongest from above.
[21:30] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> OOC: Init here. Dragonwoman's 20ft away from Annerose, who is in the doorway. Others are behind her.

[21:38] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> OOC: Open.
[21:38] * @Annerose takes a step closer to bring the naked dragon girl in range of her spear before stirking out!

[21:38] <Kobot> Annerose rolled 1d8+3+4 cold --> [ 1d8=6 ]{13}
[21:50] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> A stab right into her unprotected shoulder, drawing a splash of acidic blood that splatters on the ground and spear, but misses Annerose entirely. OOC: Inari.
[21:50] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> T whistles a bit, "Now this is the sort of enemy we need to face more!"
[21:51] <@Inari> Hearing the fracas in the next room, Inari runs after Annerose and stabs the next dragon in line!
[21:51] <@Inari> roll 1d20+10 -5pa
[21:51] <Kobot> Inari rolled 1d20+10 -5pa --> [ 1d20=12 ]{22}

[21:52] <Kobot> Inari rolled 1d8+17 if that hit --> [ 1d8=7 ]{24}
[21:53] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> Another stab, drawing a rush of blood from her stomach. She staggers, T rushing in after. "Hi, nice to meet you," he says, dagger coming down pommel first on her head.
[21:53] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> roll 1d20+12 (-0 nonlethal)
[21:53] <Kobot> Ko-EndlessTerror rolled 1d20+12 (-0 nonlethal) --> [ 1d20=14 ]{26}

[21:54] <Kobot> Ko-EndlessTerror rolled 1d4-1+3d6 --> [ 1d4=1 3d6=10 ]{10}
[21:54] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> A third blow knocks her right out, the thump to her head sending her down and out. OOC: Free act.
[21:55] <@Inari> "I was wrong about the basement, I think," Inari says, "The strongest dragon scent is upstairs. Lets go!" she says, rushing up the stairs in the main hallway.
[21:55] <@Annerose> "Really? First the inappropriate jokes, and now this? You realize she'll be executed for her crimes by any noncorrupt judge?" Annerose just stares for a moment longer, before following Inari!
[21:56] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> T rolls his eyes, "It's called banter."
[21:56] <@Erad> "It helps him keep his spirits up." Erad says as he turns and follows after Inari.
[21:56] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> "If that's banter, Bahamut help your soul," Helena snipes, following Inari.
[22:02] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> The party urries up the stairs. The second floor is broad, the stairs leading to a foyer and then up. It leads into a ballroom - and one barely has a chance to look around at the splendor. Standing here are several people. The first are a pair of dragonmen, brandishing spears  and standing 50ft away. They're also clad in chain mail with a breastplate, vestigal wings on their backs. 15ft behind
[22:02] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> them are two others. The first is a tall man, approaching six and a half feet tall. He has fine features and looks to be 20 at most. He idly tosses a longsword hand to hand, a wicked smile on his face. Standing next to him is a figure in a robe, features hidden in its depths and a hood up shielding its face as well. The young man's the one who speaks, "Oh, what's this now?"
[22:04] <@Erad> "So which one of you is the secret dragon?" Erad asks with a look at the two in the middle. "Or do we have to go through you yahoos too?"
[22:04] <@Annerose> "Enough talk!" Annerose declares. "For kidnapping the people you were supposed to protect, die!"
[22:05] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> "Murderers!" Helena shouts, preparing a charge.
[22:05] <@Inari> "It won't be a chore, not after all the crimes you've been complicit in," Inari says, brandishing her spear. "Surrender or suffer the consequences."
[22:05] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> "Wellt hen, let's get to it." The young man smiles, "Oh, it's been so long. It's like my blood is on fire. OOC: Init here.

[22:11] <~Ko-EndlessTerror> The young man murmurs a few words of arcane power, twisting and making smoke come from his mouth. An emerald green shield appears before him, shiny and semi-transparent. His body changes, scales appearing all over. "The Dynast will be pleased when I bring news that more traitors are dead." he declares, "Each of you will be worth your weight in gold." OOC: T's up.
[22:11] <@Annerose> "T, attack from the side," Annerose calls out, gesturing with her spear. "Keep it clear for Rock!"

[22:27] <@Inari> Inari sniffs around for further dragon-scent!
[22:27] <@Erad> "...Well." Erad says with a blink. "...That's certainly one way to handle matters."
[22:27] <~Kotono> It's really strong in here. T just laughs, "That's it?" He pointedly looks away from the fallen, "Nice ballroom."
[22:28] <~Kotono> As he says that, suddenly the windows rattle. A titanic roar sounds from above, long and furious. After a few moments the windows all shatter, glass spraying like watery mist.
[22:28] <~Kotono> "I-!" Helena reflexively looks up, "Oh crap."
[22:28] <@Inari> "Outside, outside!" Inari yelps, running down the stairs!
[22:29] <@Annerose> "And now we know where he went," Annerose muses. "Outside!"
[22:29] <~Kotono> "RUN!" T thirds, hurrying down the stairs at a dead sprint.
[22:29] <@Erad> Erad will follow the others, taking to the air as he goes.
[22:30] <~Kotono> The party hurries out as fast as they can. As they reach the bottom of the stairs, Grimsley House shakes. An onrushing wave of heat slams into the party from above, sheer pressure knocking them around. OOC: Acrobatics check, y'all.

[22:36] <~Kotono> "Run!" T repeats, glancing back at the downed Annerose, as the ceiling above the party begins to bulge downward, smoking with green flames starting to push through it.
[22:37] <@Inari> Annerose is weak to fire! Trusting she'll be quick enough, Inari stops to help Annerose up and get out of there.
[22:37] * @Annerose tries to get out, not caring whether she looks elegant doing so!
[22:37] <~Kotono> T goes ahead, kicking the door out open and pushing it aside, "HURRY!" Rock just flees, bashing past T and out. Helena goes to Annerose as well, helping her and hurrying along. OOC: Movement speeds, Annerose/Helena/Inari?
[22:37] <@Erad> Erad will stop to make sure Inari and Annerose are safe, he can move more quickly than they can, so he can make it faster if need be!
[22:38] <~Kotono> OOC: Erad as well then.

[22:38] <@Inari> OOC: 30
[22:38] <@Annerose> OOC: swift expeditious retreat gives me 60ft that round
[22:39] <~Kotono> In a hurry, a desperate hurry, the party just barely escapes. As they whirl around, they see the manor is on fire. Emerald green flames race down from the roof all along Grimsley House, a massive crash from within as the second floor gives way. About 1000ft up you see a familiar green dragon, a roar from it that echos all across Allam. The grounds keepers are fleeing in a blind panic, racing
[22:39] <~Kotono> away from the building.
[22:40] <@Annerose> "Thank you!" Annerose gasps, even as her eyes track the distant dragon.
[22:40] <@Erad> "We're totally killing it this time, right?" Erad asks.
[22:40] <@Annerose> "I can't fly!"
[22:40] <~Kotono> "Yeah, kind of a problem there!" T retorts, "It's all the way up there and we're not!"
[22:41] <@Inari> "It's out of range from anything I can hit it with," Inari says. "Spread out!" she adds, making a shooing gesture with her hands and doing the same so they can't all be hit with one fireball.
[22:42] * @Annerose doesn't need to be told twice!
[22:42] <@Erad> "I have a feeling it'll come down. It can't cast an infinite number of spells." Erad says as he moves out and away from the others, staying aloft but not too far off the ground. He turns up towards the dragon and shouts!  "HEY! YOU EMERALD FUCK! WHY DON'T YOU COME DOWN HERE, OR ARE THE CHILDREN OF TIAMAT TOO AFRAID TO FIGHT ON THE GROUND!? OR IS IT JUST YOU!?" He howls, hoping to goad the thing
[22:42] <@Erad> somehow.
[22:48] <~Kotono> OOC: Do you have ranks in any relevant social skills?
[22:49] <@Erad> OOC: I don't actually have intimidate but I am a Bahamut dragon so there's that.
[22:50] <@Erad> OOC: And the nymph thing. So kinda?
[22:50] <@Annerose> "Down with Tiamat!" Annerose joins in.

[23:02] <~Kotono> The dragon merely wings over and above Allam, before flying off to the northwest.
[23:03] <@Annerose> "You coward!"
[23:05] <@Erad> "We'll find him." Erad says. "He can't run forever."
[23:06] <@Inari> "Clearly we need to learn how to fly," Inari says, turning away from the burning rubble to deal with whatever reaction this has spurred among the populace.
[23:06] <@Annerose> "T, get a map," Annerose says darkly. "Let's figure out where he's going."
<Steph> I might have made a terrible mistake

Corwin

[20:30] <~Kotono> T fishes his map out, "Here," he says, as the streets panic. People are staring and screaming, while others are running and a few have fainted. Grimsely House is ablaze and collapsed, the beautiful house now naught but burning rubble. "Buuuuut I think we may have more pressing problems."
[20:31] <@Inari> "Everyone saw, the dragon blew it up, not us," Inari says, deciding there's little she can do about all the running and screaming and fainting. They're not rioting at least.
[20:32] <@Annerose> "Oh yes, we should put the fire out so it doesn't spread," Annerose agrees, summoning a sleet storm over the rubble.
[20:35] <@Erad> Erad will check out the map to see if he can figure out where the dragon might be going off to this time. "Let's see, last time it went west-by-northwest from the monastery, which is... here... and now we're... here..."
[20:35] <~Kotono> The cold is only marginally effective, slowly battering down the green flames. T watches it, arms crossed, "Thing is," he remarks, "We're going to be tied up forever explaning this mess, even if the dragon's to blame."
[20:37] <@Annerose> "It will only be worse if we try to flee," Annerose reasons, now taking a look at the map. "Not to mention end up blamed for this. Whereas I don't see anyone trying to arrest a group that took on a dragon and made one flee."
[20:38] <@Inari> "Still, I think one of the dragon-men who died in there was the local lord?" Inari says. "That's going to be complicated."
[20:39] <@Erad> "Windor knew he was involved." Erad says. "So I don't think we'll have to explain as much as you might think. He might follow an evildoer, but I think he'll uphold the law in our favor."
[20:40] <@Inari> "I think it'll go above Windor's head though, he's an underling. Won't the next up noble in charge of the area around here have an interest?"
[20:41] <@Annerose> "What do you propose?"
[20:42] <~Kotono> "Yeah, problem is Lord Arnam was supposed to be in there," T remarks, "Which means he's probably making excuses to Tiamat's face as we speak."
[20:42] <~Kotono> Helena frowns, "We'll just have to tell the truth, then."
[20:43] <@Inari> "I don't propose anything, we'll just see what happens and play it by ear," Inari says. Sure, saying the dragon killed the lord as he heroically tried to stop it would make things a little neater, but why give such an odious man a nice legacy like that?
[20:44] <@Erad> "I think we should just report back to Windor and see if we can get into Arnam's house or office. He might have notes left on who else was in conspiracy." Erad suggests. "If something else comes up on the way then we just give the honest truth and explain it. There's not much else to do -- we have Househaven's backing, so I think we'll be fine."
[20:44] <@Annerose> "I believe that everyone was already transformed into a draconic form by the time of collapse," Annerose points out. "So their link to the dragon that everyone saw attacking is clear. I think Erad's suggestion has merit. We just need to say as little as possible and let everyone draw the obvious conclusion."
[20:45] * @Inari nods along with that. Both sound sensible to her.
[20:46] <~Kotono> OOC: So what's the plan then?
[20:47] <@Erad> OOC: Are there any obvious villages, forts or anything on the map that the dragon might go to, if we use the monastery as one point and where we are now as another to gauge it going in that direction? Or is it too hard to tell?
[20:47] <@Annerose> OOC: With the fire contained, let's return to Windor, tell him the dragon killed his minions to silence them up and demand to investigate
[20:53] <~Kotono> OOC: Not enough information. Your best guess would be somewhere west, perhaps near the border. Probably before the fortresses or somewhere unusually secluded.
[20:53] <@Erad> OOC: Okay.
[20:54] <@Annerose> OOC: Let's go make Windor let us look in Arnam's office, then
[20:54] <~Kotono> The streets are a panic, the guard trying and failing to contain the hysteria of the citizens. You return to find the guardhouse in an absolute panic, people hurrying about and the front door manned by a squad of guards. "No entry," one demands as you approach.
[20:55] <@Erad> Erad glances at the others. "Please let Knight Windor know that Lord Househaven's Torch Bearers are here to see him. I'm certain he'll make time for us."
[20:57] <@Inari> Inari gives Erad a little grin for dropping the name like that.
[20:57] <~Kotono> The guard scowls, "Lord Windor's gone!" he reports, "He vanished before everything went to shit."
[20:57] <~Kotono> *Knight
[20:57] <@Annerose> "Then who is in charge?"
[20:59] <~Kotono> "Knight Ambrose, presumably," The guard says, "Or Knight Hoffler if he's in town."
[21:00] <@Inari> "But no one is actually taking charge at the moment? These men are unaccounted for as well?" Inari presses.
[21:04] <~Kotono> "As far as I know," the guard says, "Maybe there's commanding elsewhere, but we haven't gotten orders yet."
[21:05] <@Erad> OOC: Would we have any authority over them via Househaven's orders?
[21:07] <~Kotono> OOC: Not really, no.
[21:07] <@Erad> OOC: Okay.
[21:08] <@Erad> "Since you seem to have your hands full here, can you tell us where Lord Arnam's office is?" Erad asks. "If he had one."
[21:08] <@Erad> OOC: *has one
[21:09] <~Kotono> "At his manor, I think," the guard says.
[21:10] <@Erad> "Could you point us in the right direction?" Erad asks.
[21:12] <~Kotono> "That way. Arnam House," he says, pointing to the east. "It's near the outskirts of town."
[21:12] <@Annerose> "Thank you. We'll get out of your way, then."
[21:12] <@Erad> "Thank you." Erad says with a nod. "Good luck." With that he turns and starts to walk.
[21:13] <~Kotono> As the party hurries off, "Crap, everyone's running around like headless chickens now," T remarks, "Great if you're looking to make trouble, not so great if you need to sort things out."
[21:13] <@Inari> "Still, things should calm down as people realise that was the end of it," Inari says hopefully.
[21:14] <@Erad> "It's very disappointing." Erad says. "I'd offer to try and help them get things back in order, but I think that goes outside of our authority."
[21:14] <@Annerose> "Not to mention that it's not something you can do without staying here for a while."
[21:16] <@Erad> "That, too. I suppose we could send a messenger to Househaven, but who knows how long it'd take to get there." Erad says. "I think they just have to sort this out on their own... but Windor vanishing? That seems odd."
[21:16] <@Annerose> "He was more corrupt than we thought, it seems. As for Lord Househaven, we can't just be counting on him for everything. There's only so much he can realistically do as well."
[21:20] <@Erad> Erad nods. "We could try looking through his manor too, I suppose." Erad shakes his head. "But then we're spending so much time looking for every minute thing."
[21:20] <~Kotono> "So then the question is what do we do now?" Helena asks.
[21:21] <@Inari> "I'm not sure there's much we can do," Inari says. "We can stay another day to make sure things calm down and help if someone takes charge of an investigation, and then be on our way?"
[21:21] <@Annerose> "I'm hoping the manor has a lead on that hateful dragon, but other than that...."
[21:22] <@Erad> "We can't stay and sort out every problem." Erad says. "We'll see if we can find anything and then decide from there."
[21:23] <~Kotono> OOC: Heading to the manor then?

[21:32] <~Kotono> The group hurries along. You find Arnam House to be largely exempted from the bustle. A few soldiers stand outside the front gates - beautiful golden gates of delicate design with a stylized A dominating - with spears at the ready. "Hold, who approaches?"
[21:34] <@Erad> "We are Lord Househaven's Torch Bearers. We're investigating the dragon attack on Grimsely House." Erad says. "We believe Lord Arnam knows something." At that, he'll offer the papers over.
[21:45] <~Kotono> The papers get a look-over before they're handed back. "Alright," They step aside, "Knight Windor's in there right now, sirs."
[21:48] <@Erad> Erad looks over at the others with a bit of a smile. "Wonderful, let's go have a talk with him then."
[21:50] <~Kotono> The party heads to the front door. A fine thing just left open, able to see several grounskeepers, maids and butlers standing just inside, queitly talking amid themselves.
[21:51] <@Erad> "Where's Windor?" Erad calls out to the onlookers.
[21:56] <~Kotono> They turn, "Ah!" One of the maids eeps at the sight of the party, another fainting dead away. A big, burly grounds keeper does the same, keeling right over. The butler just points, "Upstairs in Lord Arnam's study, sirs,"  he says.
[21:57] <@Inari> "Thank you," Inari smiles gratefully to the only one with some fortitude about him, going up the indicated stairs.
[21:57] <@Annerose> "Good day," Annerose greets them, lingering behind to inquire, "Is that usual for Lord Windor?"
[21:57] <@Erad> Erad follows suit!
[22:02] <~Kotono> "He's visited before, sir," The man says, "But usually when Lord Arnam is here, but he insisted."
[22:03] * @Annerose frowns, though she thanks them as she heads to catch up. Sir? Really?
[22:06] <~Kotono> You go past decorations and richness, only to find the study upstairs. The door's thrown open. It's a large room with bookshelves, a fireplace, a liquor cabinet and odd devices all about. Everything is in disarray - books on the floor, fireplace open, cabinet ajar and so forth. Lord Windor's digging through some of the books right now, his back to the party.
[22:08] <@Inari> "Looking for something, Mr Windor?" Inari calls as she enters the room.
[22:10] <@Erad> Erad will try and move to get between the fireplace and Windor, in case he tries to throw something into it!
[22:13] <~Kotono> Knight Windor freezes, slowly turning. "Yes," he says plainly, "As a matter of fact, I am."
[22:13] <@Inari> "Well, don't keep us in suspense. What is it?"
[22:16] <@Erad> Erad folds his arms and waits!
[22:16] <~Kotono> He points to one pile against a now empty bookshelf. It has a few books and papers, "That. Proof of Lord Arnam's corruption."
[22:17] <@Inari> "Oh, I'm glad to hear it," Inari says, looking a little surprised. "That's very... conscientious of you." Not what she expected from someone who was planning to use her as a scapegoat for his misdeeds.
[22:18] <@Annerose> "We're here to help," Annerose says, heading over to skim the papers while Erad keeps a watch on the knight.
[22:20] <@Erad> "You've got your men quite spooked since you vanished on them." Erad says. "Did you think someone else was going to come here if you didn't make it first?"
[22:21] <~Kotono> The look Knight Windor gives inari is a cold one, but he only replies to Erad. "Yes, it is possible. I saw the dragon fly off, so clearly the matter is settled and Arnam is dead."
[22:22] <~Kotono> The papers look to be private papers - reports of money given to various people - the names don't ring a bell, but one stands out as unusual: Graxanaxy. The books look to be books of dragon lore.
[22:25] <@Annerose> "Graxanaxy?" Annerose muses, committing the names to memory all the same in case she runs across them at a future date.
[22:25] <@Erad> Erad nods. "Makes sense, if Lord Arnam was involved, then there were probably plenty of others under him. Be honest with me, Knight Windor -- what's this about?" Erad asks, his tone trying to sound slightly softer. "You can tell we have ideological differences, but I think both you and I can see eye-to-eye when it comes to the law. Is that what it's about? The lawlessness of the acts?"
[22:27] <@Erad> Erad looks over at Annerose. What a ridiculous name that is!
[22:27] <~Kotono> Knight Windor is quiet a moment, "This kingdom deserves better than a dragon," The contempt in his voice is heavy, "Treating it like his personal fief."
[22:28] <@Annerose> "The kingdom would be better off if the dragon were hunted down for its crimes. I don't suppose there is a record of its lair?"
[22:29] <~Kotono> "Nothing I know of," Windor remarks, "But the beast will be back. It craves followers and powers."
[22:30] <@Erad> "Perhaps Lord Arnam made some trips to western locales?" Erad asks. "Is there anything in there about that?"
[22:33] <~Kotono> "There may be. Look," he gestures with a book.
[22:34] <@Erad> Erad lets Annerose have a looksee!
[22:34] <@Annerose> It's what they came here to do!
<Steph> I might have made a terrible mistake

Corwin

[20:03] <@Kotono> OOC: How long are you willing tos pend on this?
[20:06] <@Erad> OOC: I'd venture a while. For Erad this takes precedence at least, so he'd help out if the information wasn't readily available.
[20:08] <@Inari> OOC: we don't have anything better to do
[20:09] <@Kotono> OOC: Okay.
[20:10] <@Kotono> Reading, you eventually come on one interesting thing of note - occasional but persistent trips to Allegard, a small village northeast of Adamantine. It fits the direction the dragon flew off in.
[20:13] * Annerose tries to estimate how long it would take to get there with their wagon.
[20:14] <@Kotono> A week or so? It's well in the sticks so it's mostly overland traveling with dirt roads at best. Your wagon should mitigate that and the winter, so a week or soish.
[20:16] <Annerose> "Definitely a place to visit, perhaps once we're done with our trip?"
[20:18] <@Erad> Erad looks to consider this for a moment. "Under normal circumstances I'd say that this fiend should be our primary goal, but knowing the atrocities that Maggen has been responsible for... I think Bahamut can forgive me to end his life first."
[20:19] <@Kotono> There is a smooth rustle, as suddenly Windor draws a small wooden wand from within his clothes. "You damned fool," he says, "That sounds dangerously like treason, creature."
[20:21] <@Kotono> T look ups from the book he's checking, silently wincing. Helena stops cold, leafing through a book.
[20:21] <@Inari> Inari keeps her face carefully blank as she speaks up. "Investigate, Erad, we're going to investigate what are hopefully unfounded rumours that's all. And if we find something remiss of course it will be taken to the proper authorities."
[20:24] <@Erad> Erad looks over at Windor and then back at Inari. It looks like he's carefully considering something. "Yes, of course. It wouldn't behoove us to be hasty in our judgements."
[20:25] <@Kotono> OOC: You're gonna need to make a Bluff check here, Erad. Hope your bullshittery's up to a 20.
[20:25] <@Inari> "Do forgive Erad, he's sometimes a bit over-eager," Inari goes on. "Rest assured we won't overstep the authority given to us by Lord Househaven."
[20:29] <@Erad> roll 1d20+2 Brick
[20:29] <Kobot> Erad rolled 1d20+2 Brick --> [ 1d20=16 ]{18}
[20:31] <@Kotono> But Lord Windor shakes his head, never once taking his eyes off Erad, "You're under arrest for suspected treason." He announces, "The rest of you can consider yourselves detained until this matter is throughly investigated."
[20:34] <Annerose> Annerose sighs. "All right. This has gone far enough. Knight Windor, Erad might be an idiot but there's no need to listen to every little thing he says. From your limited time spent around him you surely saw he was drawn to theatrics. That aside, don't you have bigger things to concern yourself with? Such as the lingering chaos from the dragon attack, or what we are all going to do about it?" She tilts her head. "Or you could jail us. The people who actually chased the dragon off."
[20:34] <@Inari> "Be reasonable, knight Windor." It actually pains Inari a little to use his title. "Under the circumstances there's no real facility for any sort of investigation to be carried out here given recent events which I think must take priority. Erad may be a little bit bloodthirsty but he's just an assistant to our cause. Surely you've heard guardsmen under you make loose talk now and then? Nothing
[20:34] <@Inari> will come of it."
[20:34] <Annerose> roll 1d20+19 am I scary?
[20:34] <Kobot> Annerose rolled 1d20+19 am I scary? --> [ 1d20=1 ]{20}
[20:36] <@Kotono> roll 1d20+6
[20:36] <Kobot> Kotono rolled 1d20+6 --> [ 1d20=14 ]{20}
[20:38] <@Kotono> "Erad's just overeager. You know, saw a dragon and his blood's all up," T comes on over, throwing an arm around Erad's shoulders. "Can you blame him? Everyone's worked up."
[20:38] <@Kotono> roll 1d20+13 T'll toss in a bluff too
[20:38] <Kobot> Kotono rolled 1d20+13 T'll toss in a bluff too --> [ 1d20=1 ]{14}
[20:39] <@Kotono> "No!" Windor snaps, "All of you filthy demihumans are a threat, just like that damned dragon! I don't know if you've corrupted Lord Househaven or if you've tricked him somehow, but it ends here!"
[20:42] <@Inari> "Perhaps a compromise?" Inari offers vainly. "We could forestall our investigation of the mountain regions and pursue the dragon until a new lord has taken charge here and things have settled down? I think everyone's feeling a bit out of sorts and we're not all at our best. It'd be a shame to do anything that can't be taken back under such circumstances."
[20:45] <@Kotono> OOC: Diplo check, -5 circumstance bonus.
[20:46] <@Inari> roll 1d20+14 trust the fluffy tail
[20:46] <Kobot> Inari rolled 1d20+14 trust the fluffy tail --> [ 1d20=13 ]{27}
[20:49] <@Kotono> There's a pause, a long pause. "Get out of town. Now." He commands, eyes narrow. "If anything untold happens to Lord Maggen, know that you will be exposed. Go make yourselves useful and cut down that damned dragon."
[20:50] <@Inari> "Lets go then!" Inari steps over and loops her arm around Erad's, practically dragging him out!
[20:51] <@Erad> There's a resistance at first, but after a moment he is tugged with and turns to go with Inari.
[20:51] <@Kotono> T takes Erad's other arm, hustling him out as fast as he can go. Helena scurries behind them, following just as fast.
[20:52] * Annerose shakes her head, heading out after them.
[20:53] <@Inari> Once they're safely clear of the mansion Inari whaps Erad on the back of the head. "Now why'd you have to go and run your mouth like that?" she asks. "Now if that awful man falls off his horse and breaks his neck, or chokes on his breakfast, we're the ones that'll get the blame!"
[20:54] <@Kotono> T takes out a flask and has a good pull from it. Once that's done, "Now, I see it happening if you're talking to a comely wench. Sometimes your mouth says stupid things around them. But this..." T pats Erad's shoulder, "You really need some training on how to handle yourself in those sort of situations."
[20:55] <Annerose> "Let's just go," Annerose says curtly, heading for their inn.
[20:55] <@Inari> "We even gave you an out and then you had that big suspicious pause! What was that about?"
[20:58] <@Erad> "You wouldn't understand." Erad says sharply. "I just won't say anything in the future and the rest of you can handle matters like that."
[21:02] <@Kotono> OOC: What's y'all plan here then?
[21:02] <@Inari> OOC: get in the wagon and go to Allegard
[21:04] <@Kotono> OOC: Okay.
[21:04] <@Kotono> roll 1d100
[21:04] <Kobot> Kotono rolled 1d100 --> [ 1d100=67 ]{67}
[21:06] <@Kotono> The rest of Pess 8 passes in a cold trip to the northwest. You're soon on a dirt road, traveling by untouched fields of snow. By sundown the it's dark and icy, little shards of ice pelting down from above. The party's around the campfire and enjoying a warm meal when Helena speaks up. "Fighting a real dragon's dangerous. Really dangerous. How are we going to cope with the fact it can fly overhead
[21:06] <@Kotono> and attack us with impunity? Well, except for Erad, anyway."
[21:07] <Annerose> "We attack it in its cave."
[21:08] <@Inari> "It can teleport out," Inari points out. "Someone needs to be watchful for that and be ready to interrupt its magic, even if it means forgoing a good opening."
[21:09] <Annerose> "It has a hoard. It won't run."
[21:09] <@Kotono> "Yeah," T glances at Erad, "You're the expert here, but this will be your first real dragon, won't it?"
[21:09] <@Erad> "Yes." He says.
[21:10] <@Erad> "I'll see if I can get some insight." He adds. "But magic's not my thing."
[21:11] <@Inari> "You can interrupt a spell by hitting someone really hard when they're casting it. Or even not that hard depending on their focus," Inari helpfully elaborates.
[21:11] <@Kotono> Working on his soup a spoonful at a time, T is quiet as he digests that. "Think Inari's right. Someone who can interrupt him and hit him hard enough to ruin a spell. Me or you could be that. Some ranged options for when he goes mobile. I can cast a few spells for that. Say, we could get some bows if we find a decent village with a decent fletcher."
[21:12] <@Kotono> Rock grunts, working on a big, meat bone. He says away from it all, gnawing onward.
[21:12] <@Kotono> *stays
[21:13] <@Kotono> "Dragons are resistant to magic," Helena says, "Some of our magic failed against him there. Plus with a dragon's scales, I imagine bows aren't a reliable option. I worry that unless if we decide how the battle's fought, we'll lose badly."
[21:13] <@Inari> "A javelin or a... rock, could suit Rock for a ranged option," Inari then suggests to bring their hungry troll into the discussion.
[21:14] <@Kotono> "Throw rock," Rock agrees, "Hit with rock. Rock hit with Rock."
[21:14] <@Erad> "If we're conceding that he'll be flying around, I think we've already lost." Erad says with a sourness. "I don't know any way around that, unless his teleportation is limited somehow."
[21:14] <Annerose> "Start breaking his hoard."
[21:15] <@Kotono> T winces at that, "What?! No! That's the whole point of fighting one!"
[21:15] <Annerose> "If that's your reaction, imagine his."
[21:15] <@Inari> "We're fighting it for justice!" Inari declares stalwartly. "Also if Rock manages to grab hold of it right at the start it probably won't be able to bear itself aloft. How about that Rock, want to grapple a dragon?"
[21:16] <@Kotono> "Eat dragon," Rock insists.
[21:18] <@Kotono> "Oh come on," T grimaces, "Hey Erad, is liberating dragon hoards something Bahamut likes, rather than wrecking them?"
[21:19] <@Erad> "Anything that can be taken from evil and used for a good purpose is something you should do." Erad says without a thought.
[21:23] <@Kotono> "Right, like getting us rich," T says, "So let's figure out something besides hoard smashing. Like..." He trails off, "Maybe we can trick the dragon?"
[21:24] <@Inari> Trick the dragon, she should be good at this! But the ideas aren't flowing... Inari crosses her arms and bites her lip, ears drooping forward as she hunches over and thinks of ways to trick a dragon. "Maybe give it a cow filled with something that'll make it sick?" she offers weakly.
[21:25] <@Erad> "I'm the best bait." Erad says. "The same way I think about them they regard me."
[21:26] <@Kotono> "Probably, but how can we use that to trick him?" T asks, while creeping closer to Inari.
[21:27] <@Inari> "Do they? I mean you look just like a dragonman the same as the others, do you have some sort of aura of Bahamut that it'll detect?" Inari asks, looking up at Erad. "Because if not you could pose as a follower of Tiamat, gain its confidence that way so it'll lower its guard!"
[21:27] <Annerose> "Make the hoard disappear," Annerose continues along the same vein. "Illusion?"
[21:29] <@Erad> "You remember the one in the mansion, right?" Erad says. "But yes, it's an aura.. or something like that."
[21:32] <@Inari> "Oh well, so much for that. I don't know about vanishing the hoard, since there'll be nothing to stay and fight for, but maybe we could use some fake treasure to lure it somewhere?" Inari suggests, starting to perk up with her tails waving around behind herself, gesturing with one arm. "Somewher we've laid some traps out! Like spike traps... yes, a spiked pit with a fake mound of gold over it.
[21:32] <@Inari> He flies down to covet the gold and impales himself and then we strike!"
[21:32] <@Kotono> "That may be our best idea. Draw the dragon out instead of fighting to its hoard, try and put it in a bad spot," T remarks. "I like it. We can use Erad as bait as needed, if he needs more enticement."
[21:33] <@Erad> "In theory, though, fighting it in its own lair... well." Erad shakes his head. "Knowing that bastard, he probably has all sorts of magical traps there. So I think the idea to fight it somewhere else is the best."
[21:35] <Annerose> "We still need to break those traps."
[21:36] <@Kotono> "Yeah, but we can do that at leisure once the dragon's dealt with," Helena says, 'Rather than with the dragon still a factor. Maybe..." she trails off, "One of us sneaks into Allegard, finds out if it's the sort of place the dragon keeps an eye on. If it is, why not spread a rumor about a treasure somewhere, a place that's a trap?"
[21:38] <@Inari> "Something like a wagon full of war reparations that got beset by monsters or wild animals?" Inari suggests for bait.
[21:39] <@Erad> "I know just the trap." Erad says. "Go in and say you found some sort of ruined chapel or something to some 'dragon god'."
[21:40] <@Erad> "I can even give you one of the crystals I took from the monastery." Erad adds. "Just say it's hidden through some magic but you found something there. He'd come racing there, just like he did before."
[21:40] <@Inari> "Would have to be in a cave or he'd just blast it from the clouds though."
[21:41] <@Kotono> T starts to say something, "Yeah, that's actually a good plan. It would have to be in a cave, but we can find that. Hell, I like that. That damned crystal is finally going to be useful."
[21:43] <@Inari> "So lets look out for likely spots on the road and once we find one we'll get set up while someone runs into town to start the rumours?"
[21:44] <Annerose> "Could work," Annerose agrees.
[21:45] <@Kotono> OOC: Okay, looks like we have a plan now. Ready to move along, y'all
[21:45] <@Kotono> ?
[21:46] <@Inari> OOC: sure
[21:51] <@Kotono> OOC: Okay.
[21:51] <@Kotono> roll 1d100

[21:52] <Kobot> Kotono rolled 1d3 --> [ 1d3=1 ]{1}
[21:53] <@Kotono> By chance, it's Inari on watch when it happens.  A point of light in the night sky grows brighter and brighter, as well as closer, as if a star is descending down from the sky.
[21:54] <@Inari> Is it coming towards them?
[21:58] <@Kotono> In the party's general direction, yes.
[21:58] <@Inari> "Look out!" Inari yells, casting recitation and then scattering!
[21:59] <@Inari> OOC: +2 AC/attack/saves, +3 if you let the fluffy tail into your heart
[21:59] * Annerose pulls Helena out of the way, boosting her speed!
[22:00] <Annerose> OOC: swift expeditious retreat
[22:00] <@Erad> Erad will move for the wagon, in case he needs to try and get it out of the way as well!
[22:03] <@Kotono> The sleepy party scatters, the light not fast enough to seriously threaten them. The light plunges down perhaps 1000ft from the party, to the east. It lands with an earth-shaking thump, the snow around it bursting into steam nigh-instantly.
[22:03] <@Inari> "Lets go investigate whatever that was?" Inari suggests, casting animalistic power on herself before she starts moving.
[22:04] <Annerose> "Ward us against heat first?"
[22:04] <@Erad> Erad will head with the group in that direction, taking to the air to get a better vantage point!
[22:04] <@Inari> "Of course," she says, two quick spells protecting the entire party from flames.
[22:08] <@Kotono> The party hurries over. A small crater is there, and in the center is a glowing red rock. It's maybe two feet long and a foot wide, a general rough shape to it. It's glowing like steel fresh from the forge.
[22:09] * Annerose looks at the magic!
[22:09] <@Inari> "Oh! Goodness!" Inari is drawn up short. "A meteorite! It's been so long since I saw one - my old spear was made from the rock of one that fell long ago," she confides in the group. "It was a very special metal. I wonder if this one is the same?"
[22:09] <@Erad> "A meteowhat?" Erad asks.
[22:11] <@Kotono> The rock radiates magic. OOC: Spellcraft, Annerose.
[22:11] <Annerose> roll 1d20+14
[22:11] <Kobot> Annerose rolled 1d20+14 --> [ 1d20=4 ]{18}
[22:11] <@Kotono> Annerose can't puzzle it out.
[22:12] <@Kotono> "That means it's worth a bunch, right?" T asks, "I heard they're useful."
[22:12] <Annerose> "Figure out the magic first," Annerose cautions, covering her mouth as a yawn threatens to escape it.
[22:12] <@Inari> "A rock from the stars. Starmetal," Inari says. "And yes, the metal can be wondrous, like the kind you'd have to dig leagues underground to find down here, or even better." Since Annerose is talking about magic, Inari has a look as well.
[22:12] <@Kotono> Helena lingers behind Annerose, a little more awake. She leans on the other yuki-onna, watching.
[22:12] <@Inari> roll 1d20+14 spellcraft
[22:12] <Kobot> Inari rolled 1d20+14 spellcraft --> [ 1d20=3 ]{17}
[22:13] <@Kotono> Inari can't puzzle it out, either.
[22:13] <@Inari> "Hmm, there is magic but what kind is beyond me," she admits. "That definitely suggests it's something special though. We should take it with us... once it cools down a bit."
[22:14] <@Erad> To be on the safe side, Erad detects if it has any evil about it by chance.
[22:16] <@Kotono> The meteorite is not evil.
[22:18] <@Erad> "Well, it isn't evil, so there's that. So do we just wait for it to cool off or do one of you snowcasters want to speed up the process?" Erad asks.
[22:18] <Annerose> "Never using magic on a magical object I can't discern."
[22:19] <@Erad> "Well I didn't mean just blast it, just make it... colder. But yeah, that makes sense."
[22:20] <@Erad> Erad will move to get closer to see if it has any markings on it or anything.
[22:21] <@Kotono> "Just toss snow on it," Helena says, doing that with a handful. It immediately bursts into steam, a loud hiss from the contact. Getting closer, Erad can tell it looks like a hunk of metal. No markings on it or anything.
[22:21] <@Inari> Inari just conjures some water to help Helena with the cooling process before picking it up.
[22:24] <@Erad> Erad will help out with the snow-tossing. Why not, it's fun! Kind of.
[22:24] <@Kotono> More and more is tossed on. Snowly the red color of the meteor fades, snow and water evaporating slower. The rock's still steaming, but it's now turned a dull iron gray with veins of green running through it.
[22:26] <@Erad> OOC: Any Ks relevant here?
[22:28] <@Kotono> OOC: K:A.

[22:33] <@Kotono> While Annerose and Erad come up blank, T snaps his fingers, "Starmetal," he announces, "See those green bands? It's unrefined starmetal. It's like adamantine, but from space and magical. It's supposed to be from comets."
[22:34] <Annerose> "Magical how?"
[22:35] <@Inari> "Yes, that's what my old spear was like," Inari nods eagerly. "The blade was green. It channeled my divinity and struck powerfully against creatures not of this world."
[22:38] <@Kotono> "Yeah, that. Creatures not native to this world don't like it. I also hear that at least one wizard's used it to turn himself into a golem." T remarks offhandedyl.

[19:48] <@Kotono> OOC: Y'all gonna do anything else with the meteor?
[19:48] <@Annerose> OOC: Keep it for now?
[19:48] <@Inari> OOC: we don't have the tools to smelt it or anything so I guess just stash it in the wagon.
[19:51] <@Kotono> OOC: Okay. Since we had an unplanned vacation, do y'all need a refresher on your plan and position?
[19:52] <@Annerose> OOC: We were going to bait the dragon out
[19:53] <@Inari> OOC: T was gonna go into town with tall tales while we set up a fake temple in a cave!
[19:55] <@Kotono> OOC: Okay.

[19:55] <Serith> Kotono roll for Serith < 29 >12 [d100=29]
[19:57] <@Kotono> The next near-week passes unremarkably. Pess 14 dawns a viciously cold, windy and snowy day. It's not quite a blizzard, but only because the snowfall's minimal. There's still a foot or so of old snow in the ground, your wagon's magic the only reason you're making passable time at all. You've passed small villages and farmsteads, all bundled against the winter as best they can. It's came early
[19:57] <@Kotono> and without mercy, pummeling all in its path. "So," T says as he finishes his breakfast of porridge and water, "We need to find that cave, we're getting fairly close."
[19:58] <@Inari> "Lets just split up we can all spend the day exploring around to find any likely spots then meet up before evening? We can then start dressing it up tomorrow assuming someone finds a good spot."
[20:00] <@Annerose> "In pairs, perhaps? Not all of us are really suited for such a search, but it could help us explore more safely?"
[20:02] <@Kotono> "Sounds like a plan," Helena seconds, "I'm good at that sort of searching. Who else is?" OOC: To be clear here, I'll be calling for survival checks.
[20:03] <@Kotono> "Find cave," Rock speaks up, "Find empty earth."
[20:04] <@Inari> "I know my way around," Inari replies to Helena.#
[20:04] <@Kotono> "I'll go with 'nari," T says, "Figure the two of us have good odds of finding a cave."
[20:05] <@Kotono> "Actually," Helena says, "I was thinking I could go with Inari and you'd go with Rock?" Helena suggests.
[20:07] <@Inari> "Aren't I popular?" Inari smiles, leaning back.
[20:11] <@Kotono> T just shrugs, "I'll stick with 'nari," he goes on over to her, "Go play with Rock or...say, Erad, got any skill at this?"
[20:12] * @Annerose rolls her eyes, looking over at Inari for her preference.
[20:13] <@Inari> "Alright T, you can come with me," Inari says agreeably. "You have been very devout lately."
[20:13] <@Annerose> "Helena, let's go together?"
[20:16] <@Erad> "About the only thing I offer at this is a different viewpoint, which may not be helpful if we're looking for caves." Erad says.
[20:17] <@Kotono> OOC: Okay, then do teams of T+Inari, Annerose+Helena and Erad+Rock sound good?
[20:17] <@Annerose> OOC: Okay

[20:26] <@Kotono> Erad and Rock search. More aptly, Rock sniffs a l ot and follows along. Early on Rock finds something - namely, a winter hare. He grabs it by the ears and eats it one great gulp, chewing messily before burping. He tears out a leg and offers it to Erad, "Share?"
[20:27] <@Erad> Erad shakes his head. "You found it, you have the right to it. But thank you."
[20:32] <@Kotono> Rock tosses it in his mouth like a treat, crunching it all down. From here you wander, coming to a bunching of pine trees. They're heavy with snow, brances sagging under it. They shake in the wind, making it snow heavier beneath the trees. Rock sniffs the air a few times before beelining for it.
[20:39] <@Erad> "...What do you smell this time?" He's not really expecting an answer, but he follows after him nonetheless.
[20:42] <@Kotono> "Cave," Rock says, pushing through the trees. Within the cluster is a crack in the earth, a cave opening shrouded in darkness and snow.
[20:44] <@Erad> "Well, it's well-hidden..." Erad says as he steps forward. He takes a look as far as his darkvision will allow for. OOC: Which is 60 ft, for reference.
[20:46] <@Kotono> The cave goes downward and ahead for about 30ft before turning to the left. You can see an old, mostly used up torch hanging on the wall by the turn. It's not lit.
[20:48] <@Erad> Erad shrugs and will start to head down into the cave. "Might as well see if we have to clear it out."
[20:52] <@Kotono> Rock follows, both unbothered by the lack of light. Around the bend is a cave that's been clearly hollowed out. The walls are old brick and level, turning an open cave into a square room. Here an old bed sits, along with a table and several chests against one wall. An old bow sits mounted on the wall. There's also an empty bed, as well as a door on the right side. Old torches hang from the walls.
[20:53] <@Erad> "Well, I don't think this is what we're looking for at all." Erad says, but he goes over to check the door. "Someone spent a lot of time making this into a home."
[20:57] <@Kotono> Rock sniffs, going to one chest. He pulls out some rather old dried meat, which he promptly chows down on. Meanwhile, Erad finds the door unlocked. It leads to a narrow hall that opens up into a larger space. A circle, with four jail cell doors dotted about. A fifth wooden door can also be seen. Each jail door has a large cell with a skeleton inside. Each skeleton is much larger than a typical
[20:57] <@Kotono> human.
[21:00] <@Erad> "...What the hell?" Erad raises an eyebrow as he goes to check the other OTHER door.
[21:02] <@Kotono> This door opens. Another room is here, full of racks. The torture instrument, some small enough for a midget and others big enough for a giant. Two doors go further on from here, one straight and and one to the left.
[21:06] <@Erad> Erad takes the left door, first. "What kind of sick freak..."
[21:07] <@Kotono> On touching the door, Erad feels a chill throughout his body.
[21:08] <@Erad> Erad narrows his eyes. That's certainly not normal. OOC: Anything else, or just the chill?
[21:11] <@Kotono> OOC: Just the chill.
[21:15] <@Erad> He'll try and open the door!
[21:18] <@Kotono> The door opens. It leads to a long, narrow hallway that comes to a dead end. There's an alcove at the end of it, where a figure of a tall, obscenely stretched out humanoid is. It's made of gray rock and with elven ears, features rather dull and trollish. It's far too tall relative to its body, as if it was stretched out until it couldn't stretch any more without breaking. A small collection of
[21:18] <@Kotono> old, burnt down candles surround it.
[21:19] <@Erad> OOC: So is the figure an actual statue or is it like it's partly made of rocks?
[21:20] <@Kotono> OOC: It's a statue made of gray rock.
[21:20] <@Erad> OOC: Okay.
[21:20] <@Erad> Erad tilts his head. "Rock, any idea what that is?" He takes a step forward to try and figure out what it's supposed to be.
[21:21] <@Kotono> Rock isn't here. Last you saw him, he was gnawing on some old meat.
[21:24] <@Erad> Well, he'll go back for him.
[21:24] <@Erad> Eventually.
[21:25] <@Kotono> Going back to find Rock's unremarkable. He's at a different chest, this one open and full of sparkling treasure. He's currently eating a golden chalice, bite by bite.
[21:27] <@Erad> "Hey! That might be cursed, or... something." Erad says. "Leave it alone, please."
[21:28] <@Kotono> Rock looks, burping up a few flecks of gold, "Tasty," he says, "Eat. Stronger. Eat. Stronger."
[21:30] <@Erad> "At least let us identify it first, okay?" Erad says. "Besides, I need to show you something."
[21:30] <@Kotono> OOC: Diplo, as a Rock and his meals are not easily parted.

[21:33] <@Kotono> Rock takes one look at it and sniffs it, "Smell bad." he growls, "Bad stone. Bad earth."
[21:36] <@Erad> "Hm." Erad rubs his chin at that. "Do you want to break it?"
[21:38] <@Kotono> You don't have to ask Rock twice. He grabs it and hurtles it the way you came, slamming it against the door out. It falls to the ground and breaks, several cracks through it now.

[21:39] <@Kotono> You hear a rattling of metal back the way you came.
[21:44] <@Erad> "...Oh boy." Erad frowns and starts heading back that way.
[21:44] <@Kotono> Rock follows. You return and find the torture room empty. However, the sound of metal rattling is louder from the way you came - the roo mwith the cells.
[21:45] <@Erad> "...Damnit." Erad sighs. He continues to go on, having a feeling he knows what they're about to find.
[21:46] <@Kotono> Erad opens the door. The jail doors have opened and the four skeletons have emerged. Each is about 12ft tall and horribly distended and stretched. The bones are very thin in places, almost to the point of snapping. Empty eye sockets glow black as they hiss strange words. OOC: Languages, Erad?
[21:47] <@Erad> OOC: Common and Draconic.
[21:48] <@Kotono> You have no idea at the words, but they feel greasy in your ears, wrong. It's unpleasant to hear them, the sound worming in your brain like writhing maggots. As you deal with that, the skeletons begin to lumber towards Erad. OOC: Init here.

[21:55] <@Kotono> Rock grabs the arm that puched him in the throat, ripping it off. The skeleton is momentarily caught off guard as Rock lunghes in with it, punching it through the skeleton's skull . It staggers around drunkenly from the blow, Rock following it up with a kick that snaps its spine and causes it to fall down, thrashing feebly before going still. [22:06] <@Kotono> Claws rip the first skeleton apart- literally. Ribs are spread, arms are torn off, legs are kicked away and hips are shattered. Not much of it is left, but Rock isn't done. [22:12] <@Kotono> A quick acid-laden chop severs the last skeleton into pieces, the four defeated. Rock's injuries are healing as he roars in triumph, then starts snacking on the bones. OOC: Free act.
[22:13] <@Erad> "Okay, first off, please don't eat them." Erad says.
[22:14] <@Erad> "Second," Erad says with a pat to Rock's shoulder. "Good job. I'll let you finish that chalice when we're done here."
[22:15] <@Kotono> Rock grudgingly obeys, watching Erad. OOC: Now what?
[22:16] <@Erad> OOC: I'm going to go check the other door I missed, the one down the hall from the torture room.
[22:16] <@Erad> OOC: And bringing Rock too in case of another wild and wacky skeleton rave party.
[22:18] <@Kotono> The door opens into what is a walk in closet. Shelves of supplies are here. A casual glance shows horseshoes, sheathed swords, nails, a hammer, a bit of lumber, what might be a sunrod, some torches, a quart of oil, a rusty knife and a bunch of other things.
[22:19] <@Erad> "Anything catch your fancy?" Erad asks, thinking Rock's earned his keep at least.
[22:24] <@Kotono> Rock sniffs the air a bit, before taking a few things - a sheathed longsword, that hammer and from the very back, a sheathed dagger. He sniffs the sword and presses it at Erad. "Smell you."
[22:24] <@Erad> "...You know, if I didn't know you any better..." Erad says as he looks at the sword to see if there are any markings on it of any note.
[22:25] <@Kotono> The sword is sheathed in a plain leather sheathe. You'd need to draw it to see it.
[22:26] <@Kotono> OOC: Also loot post for what Rock grabbed.
[22:26] <@Erad> OOC: I clearly meant the hilt of the thing!
[22:26] <@Erad> Erad will take the sword out to inspect it.
[22:28] <@Kotono> It's a fine longsword, marred. The groove has a design etched into it, that of a pair of entwined dragons, repeated over and over. They've been badly defaced but you can still make out what they are, despite the efforts of whomever did this. OOC: Have ranks in Appraise, Craft(Weaponsmithing) or anything related?
[22:29] <@Erad> OOC: Alas, I am not a skillmonkey.
[22:29] <@Kotono> OOC: Carry on then.
[22:29] <@Erad> OOC: Do I know what they're supposed to be? The dragons, I mean.
[22:30] <@Erad> OOC: Like... specific ones or just general "hey cool dragons on a sword"

[22:32] <@Kotono> There's some symbolism here. A pair of dragons entwined, meaning a mated pair. A sword like this would only be made by a smith with the favor of a draconic couple. Most likely it would be an enchanted weapon or at least masterwork.
[22:33] <@Erad> "Hm. Let's take that chest you were eating out of back to the others and then come back here later." Erad says. "Something's really wrong with this place, beyond, you know, the walking skeletons."

[20:30] <@Kotono> Inari and T search. The early morning passes as Inari follows her nose. Nothing nearby so they go further afield. As you wander through a small cluster of trees, "Say, 'nari," T breaks the silence, keeping his eyes peeled, "Ever fought a dragon before?"
[20:34] <@Inari> "I have!" she says brightly. "A green one at that. There was a little wyrmling that came into my lands once. She wasn't much trouble at first but she grew bold and started robbing pilgrims coming to my temple. I drove her off for her cheek and didn't think much more of it, but she must have done alright wherever she ended up because she came back about... two hundred years later? Carried
[20:34] <@Inari> a bit of a grudge," she grins, leaning her spear against her shoulder as she strolls through the wintry wilderness.
[20:35] <@Kotono> "Oh? How'd it go with you in your dotage?" T grins, "Gave her the one-two?"
[20:37] <@Inari> "I'll have you know I was still full of vim and vigor," Inari insists. "But yes, while she'd grown prodigiously in might and with arrogance to match, I was able to give her the runaround before ending things as the victor."
[20:39] <@Kotono> "Hope your record holds up," T remarks, as Inari catches a whiff of something earthy, cave like. It's ahead somewhere, a faint scent of it.
[20:42] <@Inari> "I did have a lot more advantages back then, but guile and cleverness can make up for a lack of strength," Inari says optimisticaly. "This way!" she picks up her pace in the direction of that smell.
[20:45] <@Kotono> Inari follows her nose. You come to a snowdrift, about three feet deep. But oh, you smell a cave beneath it. A big one to have any scent through all the snowfall. It smells amazingly cavey. T looks it over, "Well hell," he remarks, "Got a shovel?"
[20:47] <@Inari> "I left mine back at the wagon," Inari admits, sending some burning foxfire through the snow to melt a chunk. It's a masterwork shovel, too!
[20:48] <@Kotono> "Damn," T remarks, seeing the fire work. "Hold on, mine's bigger," he grins, tossing up a ball of bat guano. A fireball explodes, vaporizing the snow all around. Beneath it is a large gash in the earth, a cave sloping downward. The entrance is large - large enough for the wagon to pass through, if steep.
[20:50] <@Inari> "Oh, this looks like a dragon-friendly cave alright," Inari says, waiting a moment for her foxfire to recharge before producing some non-burnable lights for illumination as she descends down into the cavern.

[21:00] <@Kotono> Inari has to resist snapping her fingers as it comes to her. Ardon was a Lord about a hundred and fifty years ago, give or take. He's mainly known as a hunter of fantastical creatures, no mater what type they were. He eventually died on a hunt.
[21:02] <@Inari> She must have heard someone talking about it somewhere, it's still well after her time. "Lord Ardon the famous hunter? Well, I'm sure he gives his regrets that he can't be here with us right now!"
[21:03] <@Kotono> "Huh," T steps back and eyes it warily, "It looks like we found something special, 'nari. Yeah, he's been dead a long time, so no point taking it out on us."
[21:03] <@Kotono> There's no reply from the voice, whatever it was.
[21:05] <@Inari> She tries walking forward again, just in case the voice used up all its power on that first rebuff.
[21:10] <@Kotono> Instead, the moment Inari takes a step forward, glowing light appears. A man in the shape of light is 20ft away, a blade of pure radiance in hand. "You were warned," It intones, before leveling the sword at the two and advancing. OOC: Init here.

[21:32] <@Inari> "I thought you might," she smiles. "We may as well head back to the camp now, I don't think we're going to find a better candidate than this one, but maybe our friends have found something interesting themselves."

If the guardian ends up surviving the battle, well... I can live without knowing what's in that cave. The dragon's the priority."
[21:41] <@Kotono> "Yeah, guess so," T agrees, "Probably the best play we have."

[20:28] <@Kotono> The two start to wander, the mid morning frigid and sunless. As you go along, Helena following a path along the plains, "Say, do you think T has a chance?"
[20:28] <@Annerose> "Of finding a cave?"
[20:32] <@Kotono> "No!" Helena turns, a hand on her hip as she mock glares, "I mean with Inari."
[20:33] * @Annerose giggles. "You sound so interested! So who is it? T? Or Inari? T and Inari?"
[20:38] <@Kotono> "Oh come now," Helena giggles as well, "You know exactly what I mean. Do you think T has a chance with Inari?
[20:38] <@Kotono> "
[20:40] <@Annerose> "For a few decades, maybe?"
[20:43] <@Kotono> "Maybe," Helena says, voice going deep as she mimics T, "Well, 'nari, you'd best let me take care of you for awhile."
[20:45] <@Annerose> "I really don't care," Annerose admits. "It's Inari's business. And T's, technically, though he does kind of make it everyone else's by how obvious he acts."
[20:46] <@Kotono> "Oh come now, gossip a little," Helena tsks, kneeling downa dn brushing some snow away. "It's like a show we get to watch for free, every day."
[20:50] <@Annerose> "Not really selling me on this."
[20:52] <@Kotono> "Well, what about your love life?" Helena challenges as she starts to walk a little faster, seeming to follow something. "Seen anyone in our travels that caught your fancy?"
[20:54] <@Annerose> "I can't say no one managed to catch my eye," Anneorse muses, following after Helena. "Though since I can't recall any specifics, there's nothing serious. Not that I could act upon it, either way, of course."
[20:58] <@Kotono> "You don't recall who caught your eye." Helena stops, voice dry as a desert. "Really?"
[20:59] <@Annerose> "It mustn't have been very important," Annerose firmly states.
[21:02] <@Kotono> "Annerose, that's the biggest load of-well, it's a lie is what it is." Helena shakes her head, "Come now, you can tell me. Even if it's T, winter help you."
[21:05] <@Annerose> "No, it's sadly true," Annerose tells her. "I'm actually a bit sad to admit it. It might just be that crusading across the land is not the best way to meet good men."
[21:09] <@Kotono> "I suppose," Helena shakes her head, "But you are no fun at all." She follows along faster now, "But shush, I think I have something."
[21:10] <@Annerose> "I think we'll get there just fine even without rushing!"
[21:12] <@Kotono> "Still," Helena remarks, following along. You cross over a frozen brook and up a slight hill. On the far aside you come to a cave. A smallish cave, but big enough to enter. There's animal tracks around it. "Think we found a den," she remarks quietly. "A rather large one."
[21:14] <@Annerose> "Does it mean a lot of small animals or a large one?"
[21:18] <@Kotono> "Small ones. Wolves, normal ones if I don't miss my guess. Won't be too hard to chase off with a bit of cold," she says, "They aren't winter wolves, they have different tracks. Noticed it last time."
[21:19] <@Annerose> "Sounds fine for me," Annerose agrees. "And speaking of gossip, you did dodge my own question about you earlier~"
[21:20] <@Kotono> "Which is?" Helena glances on over as the snow continues to fall.
[21:21] <@Annerose> "Any interest of your own?"
[21:23] <@Kotono> "Not really," Helena admits. "T? No. Even everything else being equal, he's a rascal and that's the last thing I want. Rock's obviously out of the question. Mostly..." A trail off as she looks away, "I'm just putting my past marriage behind me. If I find someone wonderful so be it, but I'm not actively looking."
[21:24] <@Annerose> "Maybe we could stop to look once we're back in the capital?"
[21:26] <@Kotono> "Yeah, once everything's better," Helena says, "Maybe when it's all over, we can be the noble ladies being wooed by handsome suitors?"
[21:27] <@Annerose> "It's not actually as fun as it sounds, they all want something and it's rarely you."
[21:29] <@Kotono> "Oh come now, don't ruint he dread," Helena sighs, "Though, how was it for you, back then?"
[21:30] <@Kotono> *dream, not dread
[21:33] <@Annerose> "I mostly kept to myself because when I touched people I covered them with ice," Annerose responds, raising her gloved hand for emphasis. "All the suitors were painfully fake. I actually envied the commoners, because I was still young and foolish and thought they really could do whatever they wanted."
[21:34] <@Kotono> "Which is a fantasy. That sort of freedom you can only get by leaving everything behind," Helena remarks, "But anyway, do you want to use this cave?"
[21:35] <@Annerose> "Yep. You don't get given freedom, you have to take it for yourself. Just like we'll take this cave~"
[21:36] <@Kotono> This gets Helena to crack her knuckles and ready her shield. "Go on, then," she says. "Your magic can probably do it better than mine."
[21:38] * @Annerose heads in!
[21:39] <@Kotono> Within you find a den of grass, dirt, half eaten prey and wolves. Perhaps a dozen, as well as some pups. They look up and start to growl at Annerose , rising up and snarling.
[21:42] <@Annerose> Exuding a visible aura of cold, Annerose manifests her spear and points it at the wolves. "Leave," she commands, trusting in the animal sense of preservation the wolves must have as a bigger predator happens to arrive.

[21:48] <@Annerose> "Smart," Annerose muses, raising her voice as she calls out, "Helena, we have the cave. Let's explore."

[21:51] * @Annerose gestures about herself. "So what now?"
[21:56] <@Kotono> The cave goes on a little bit, about another 20ft before a dead end. Rather large and spacious, but it doesn't seem to go far. "Hmmm. Looks like a typical den," she remarks, "We'd need to dress it up some, but I could do that."
[21:57] <@Annerose> "Let's go check in with the others, then."

[22:41] <@Inari> "The rest of the treasure's all mundane," she adds as an afterthought.

[20:28] <@Annerose> "You took the time to deliver the warning, so could you not spare me a moment longer?"
[20:29] <@Kotono> Again there is no reply.
[20:30] <@Annerose> "What exactly is Ardon's regret?"
[20:31] <@Kotono> Still no reply.
[20:35] * @Annerose claps her hands. "Alright then! Guess you don't want to take down an evil dragon assaulting this land in Lord Ardon's name. It's alright, a hunter like him probably took down a dragon or two in his day, right?" Shrugging, Annerose heads out.
[20:36] <@Kotono> No reply as Annerose returns to the party. T looks at her, "Nothing?"
[20:37] <@Inari> "Oh well, we don't specifically need cooperation if we can convince the dragon it really wants to get in there," Inari says.
[20:37] <@Annerose> "Sometimes plans that sound good just fail." She shrugs again. "I still think we can make it work by luring the dragon in. They're usually greedy so he might keep on going."
[20:39] <@Inari> "Exactly," Inari says. "That sword Erad found can also help sell the ruse if T tries to sell it in town or just shows it off."
[20:40] <@Annerose> "Maybe we can make this whole story? About Ardon's secret stash?"
[20:40] <@Kotono> "Thatmight well work," T agrees, "Yeah, Ardon's secret stash. Gimme that sword, I can spin that."
[20:41] <@Inari> "You can even mention the guardian, just say that he's easy to sneak by or something," Inari nods.
[20:41] <@Kotono> Helena glances back inside, "I think that is the best idea. Hopefully it'll appeal to the dragon's greed really well."
[20:41] <@Annerose> "We'll just need to figure out where to hide nearby."
[20:43] <@Inari> "We can dig out a nice hide, we have those shovels after all."
[20:43] <@Annerose> "Have to justify buying them somehow, I suppose."
[20:44] <@Erad> "Just don't let that bastard deface it any worse than it is, all right?" Erad says as he gives the sword over.
[20:44] <@Kotono> T takes the sword. "So I'm planning on leaving first light tomorrow," he says, "We all clear on this?"
[20:46] <@Inari> "Of course," Inari nods. "Take whatever supplies you need. We'll all come find you in the town after we've slain the dragon."
[20:46] <@Kotono> OOC: Okay then, what's the plan on y'all's end?
[20:50] <@Inari> OOC: we dig out a hide and Erad can put some draconic carvings around the area while I use illusions to make it look like a ruined temple entrance. I think Erad has some dragon doodad from the other temple he can leave around as well?
[20:50] <@Inari> OOC: then we just basically hide and wait.
[20:52] <@Erad> OOC: Sure, that's fine.
[20:53] <@Kotono> OOC: Okay then.

[20:54] <@Kotono> OOC: Where is the wagon going to be hidden?
[20:55] <@Inari> OOC: lets go move it by Erad's creepy cave?
[20:57] <@Kotono> OOC: Okay.
[20:59] <@Kotono> Pess 15 is colder but clear, clouds blocking the sun but not gracing you with any more snow. T leaves first thing, heading off. The party spends some time setting up the front of the cave, preparing everything and putting it all into place. As they do, "How long does your illusion last, Inari?" Helena asks.
[21:00] <@Inari> "As long as I focus on it, and then eight hours once I stop focusing on it," Inari answers. "So I'm going to be sitting around all day keeping it going and it'll just last long enough for me to sleep and then wake up to renew it."
[21:01] <@Erad> "Actually, if I might make a suggestion?" Erad says. "Instead of making it look like ruins, maybe it'd be better to try and hide it entirely, like the monastery was? It seems like this... individual might have some magical knowledge, if that makes sense. Although... he never did manage to find the monastery when it was hidden, so..." Erad shrugs. I don't know what that could mean.
[21:01] <@Erad> "Actually, if I might make a suggestion?" Erad says. "Instead of making it look like ruins, maybe it'd be better to try and hide it entirely, like the monastery was? "I don't know what that could mean."
[21:03] <@Inari> "I could just stick some things inside the cave itself?" Inari says. "Oh, that's actually a good idea. Even if I can't go through the barrier I can cast spells through it, so I can set up all the temple-like things past the blockage so the dragon'll have to go through to get at it all."
[21:04] <@Annerose> "Makes sense. And we have to keep the opening as is, since T apparently came through it."
[21:07] <@Kotono> Helena nods along, "That's a good idea." Meanwhile Rock moves some thigns around and does the grunt work.
[21:09] <@Inari> Inari goes down into the cave but keeps clear of where the line of no return is, creating her illusions via mirage arcane to form the interior of an old temple to Bahamut deeper within, modelling it after that monastery they visited way back.
[21:10] <@Kotono> OOC: Where is the party going to wait?
[21:12] <@Inari> OOC: we can dig out a hide facing towards the cave about two hundred feet away? All camouflaged with snow and foliage of course.
[21:14] <@Kotono> OOC: Okay then.

The sun's been gone for days, winter's early arrival blotting out such trivial things in favor of a sea of snow. The party endures it (or enjoys it in two cases). [21:20] <@Kotono> Rock's off staring at whatever captures his attention. Annerose and Helena are spending more time watching snowflakes than anything, while Erad finds himself fighting the tedium by prayer and meditation. Only Inari's with it at the right time, looking up as she nibbles on a bit of dried meat. Up in the sky she can see a green dot coming from the west, slowly growing larger.
[21:22] <@Inari> "Dragon!" Inari whispers, grabbing her spear and hunkering down at the slitted window to their hide. Lapsing her concentration on the illusion which will still be good for another eight hours, she casts mass resist energy (acid) on the group while the dragon's still far enough away not to hear her spellcasting.
[21:23] * @Annerose calls upon her cold, taking measures to focus it at her fingertips.
[21:24] <@Erad> Erad snaps to attention and looks, shifting slightly.
[21:26] <@Kotono> Helena snaps to attention, shield readied. Rock just looks up and starts eating more and faster. The dragon flies closer and lower - it's descending! It comes to about 200ft above, starting to circle the 'temple' entrance. But in one claw is a massive cloth bundle, large enough to hold several trolls in.
[21:27] <@Inari> "What's in that bundle? Minions?" Inari wonders, peering curiously up at the spectacle.
[21:27] <@Kotono> "Maybe it's to take away treasure?" Helena whispers back, "Like a dragon sized sack?"
[21:28] <@Inari> "Didn't seem interested in treasure at the monastery," Inari says. Didn't need minions either come to that...
[21:30] <@Erad> "He might've just been interested in destroying that one... who knows what kind of story T spun for him." Erad says. "Might've convinced him there was an entire hoard in the back."
[21:32] <@Kotono> OOC: Languages y'all speak?
[21:32] <@Annerose> OOC: Common, Aquan, Auran, Celestial
[21:33] <@Inari> OOC: Common, sylvan, terran, celestial, goblin, giant
[21:33] <@Erad> OOC: Common, Draconic
[21:35] <@Kotono> As the party talks, the dragon flies over the front of the cave, just before the entrance, and drops the sack. It falls heavily to the ground, stopping cold at 5ft above the ground for a moment, then falls softly. The sack stays in position a moment before opening up like a blossoming flower, the tops of it separating like flower petals. They emerge - small, scaly creatures barely 3 feet tall.
[21:35] <@Kotono> They carry spears and slings, dozens of them? Two dozen and more come. Four dozen and more come out of the sack, seeming to emerge from the tiniest spaces. Six dozen. Eight dozen. Ten dozen. Twelve dozen. Surely nearly 200 when it's all said and done. They speak in strange words only Erad understands. "Gather up!" one calls, "Form squads! One treasure squad, two advance squads and one reserve
[21:35] <@Kotono> squad!" The creatures are firming up in four roughly equal groups. OOC: K:L to identify. K:A is also possible but harder.
[21:36] <@Inari> That is a whole hell of a lot of little monsters! She doubts any can handle the guardian but unless he was hiding some area of effect attacks they'll totally get past him.
[21:36] <@Kotono> "Oh come on," Helena mutters, "Was this dragon born without testicles?"
[21:37] <@Annerose> "On the contrary, these must be his kobold children."
[21:37] <@Kotono> Helena promptly groans and buries her head into her hands.

[21:38] <@Erad> Erad frowns but stays quiet. Bahamut will provide a way, surely.
[21:39] <@Kotono> Yep, kobolds. Erads knows 'em. Little dragon helpers, vile little things. So does Annerose, and can note these ones are organized and trained. They look better prepared than the typical kobold. A single one's still not half as a effective as a typical village soldier or milita member, though, but they have numbers.
[21:40] <@Annerose> "So we let the kobolds get inside, as many as possible, then break cover to hit the rest? Or wait and see how things go against the guardian?"
[21:40] <@Erad> "I mean, it's only one guardian, but..." Erad scratches his cheek. "If it's as strong as Inari and T said, it might just kill all of them for us."
[21:41] <@Inari> "Lets just see how this plays out," Inari says. "There's no point attacking while the dragon's in the air. He'd just fly off. The whole point is to get him in the cave."
[21:42] <@Annerose> "If they spot us, though, we'll just have to take them out quickly. Waiting it is, for now."
[21:46] <@Kotono> The dragon above circles as two of the groups head in. A third starts picking around and examining the dragon carvings, while the fourth stays outside. The dragon stays well in the air, rising to 400ft up and doing long, lazy circles around the area. It's quiet for several moments, until suddenly the cave's entrance is radiant light. A long flash of it that momentarily blinds the party, a great
[21:46] <@Kotono> cry going out amid the kobolds stationed outside.
[21:47] * @Inari nods approvingly.
[21:48] <@Kotono> Helena grimaces and shields her eyes, while Rock just blinks it off. Amid all of it, a single scorched, staggering kobold emerges from the cave entrance. It calls out in Draconic, "WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!" It then promptly falls over, twitching.
[21:49] <@Erad> Erad rubs his eyes once but has to suppress a bit of a chuckle. "It didn't go well for them... but I think that's obvious." Erad says.
[21:49] <@Annerose> "Isn't treasure more valuable if it's well-guarded?"
[21:49] <@Kotono> "Huh," Helena murmurs, "He looks to be in bad shape," she says, "Can anyone understand what it said?"
[21:51] <@Erad> "To quote it -- 'we're all gonna die,'." Erad says.
[21:53] <@Kotono> "Promising," Helena remarks, the surviving kobolds wave up and shout in draconic, "Bad mission! Bad mission!" The dragon circles above, before slowly descending down.
[21:55] <@Erad> Erad translates for the others quietly. "Hm... if he goes in and defeats the guardian himself, what do we do?"
[21:55] <@Inari> "Get him while he's hurt?"
[21:55] <@Annerose> "Exactly."
[21:56] <@Erad> "Should someone wait outside in case he teleports, then?"
[21:57] <@Annerose> "Best to just try and go all out here."
[22:01] <@Kotono> The dragon lands and scowls at all of them, silently staring. The remaining kobolds audibly and loudly whimper, calling out a bevy of excuses. "It just happened! Trapped! Bad light, bad light!" The dragon strides forward, going to the cave entrance and shrinking. The hooded man from your previous encounter appears, a staff in hand. It looks to be carved out of solid black wood and is engraved
[22:01] <@Kotono> with emerald-green lines and patterns. He strides confidently into the cave.
[22:02] <@Annerose> "Wait for the flash of light, go in after him?" Annerose suggests once the dragon is inside.
[22:02] <@Erad> "I doubt the kobolds are going to be able to do much." Erad agrees.
[22:02] <@Inari> "Yes, you and Helena can clear out the kobolds with your cones of cold?" Inari suggests, getting ready to move.

[22:09] <@Inari> "Alright, lets go!" Inari says, since it'll take them time to reach the cave. She leads things off my casting recitation before leaving their hide and moving thirty feet closer.

[22:19] <@Kotono> "I think I loathe this dragon," Helena mutters, "He's proving annoying hard to get any leeway against at all."
[22:19] <@Annerose> "Must be that staff of his. That can't possibly be his own magic."
[22:19] <@Inari> "Try and steal the staff, right," Inari says. "Lets go? The terrain still favours us underground."
[22:20] <@Annerose> "Let's," Annerose agrees, hurrying past the trapped guardian.

[22:23] <@Annerose> "Again!" Annerose cries out, charging at him!

[20:21] <Kobot> Annerose rolled 32*1.5 --> error: malformed expression
[20:21] <@Kotono> OOC: 48.
[20:22] <@Inari> OOC: T isn't even here!
[20:22] <@Kotono> OOC: Oh wow, sorry, was on autopilot.
[20:23] <@Kotono> OOC: Just ignore him and strike that part of the rolling from the logs, since wow.
[20:25] <@Kotono> Flames spread everywhere. They bring fire and pain, scorching about. Somehow Helena avoids it, her shield holding firm. Erad is likewise fast, somehow leaping to the wall and hanging there as the flames don't quite reach that high. He lands nimbly, untouched. Inari isn't so fast, tails aflame with green fire and entire body burnt. Her clothes are burnt, several gaps in it as they sizzle underneath
[20:25] <@Kotono> the assault. Pain comes with it, sublime pain that still holds nothing to Annerose. Annerose's entire body burns and screams at her, a horror as fire's loathesome touch devastates her body. She feels sick, nausea rising up and barely held in check by the sheer agony she feels. But even amid this Rock screams and writhes, howling in misery. OOC: The ow. Annerose.
[20:26] <@Kotono> "That staff! Do something about that fucking fire staff!" Helena snarls, spitting the words out like they're poison.
[20:33] <@Annerose> That was indeed the plan, though Annerose is ill-suited for this herself. There is something she can do, however, and a courre is summoned via one of the scrolls she keeps with her before the two of them advance to flank the dragon with Erad.
[20:33] <@Annerose> OOC: Summon Monster III for a courre, then moving to end up 10ft away from the dragon opposite Erad
[20:33] * Kotono changes topic to 'Erad(20)>Helena(19)>Green Dragon(18)>Annerose=Courre(14)>Inari(12)>Rock(5)'
[20:34] <@Kotono> A little celestial pixie appears, flying into position. OOC: You two closing in to 5ft to flank him?
[20:34] <@Annerose> OOC: 10ft away
[20:34] <@Kotono> OOC: Okay.
[20:35] <@Kotono> OOC: Inari, go.
[20:36] <@Inari> Ooooh, that really smarts! But she can't take time just to heal herself when others are hurt too, and really they need to beat the dragon more than anything else so Inari casts divine power on herself before advancing to fully box the dragon in while leaving a little room for Rock to get in alongside her, her spear's longer reach letting it threaten without her having to risk a whack from that
[20:36] <@Inari> staff!
[20:37] <@Kotono> roll 1d2
[20:37] <Kobot> Kotono rolled 1d2 --> [ 1d2=1 ]{1}
[20:39] <@Kotono> The dragon is nearly surrounded...and after several moments, Rock rushes into the melee, boxing him in with the last one. He falls into a snarling rage, snapping at the dragon-man. He merely looks on with calmness, "Fools," he says, "You should have ran when you had a chance. Do you think surrounding a dragon means anything?" He speaks in Common, and then in Draconic, "You should know better,
[20:39] <@Kotono> dragonborn!" OOC: Erad.
[20:40] <@Erad> "You seem pretty content to use toys you probably stole rather than your own power, you conniving bastard! I'll show you just what Bahamut thinks of you and your patron!" Erad shouts back in Common, as he moves to tear into the dragon, claws first!

[20:41] <@Kotono> OOC: One normal hit.
[20:42] <@Erad> OOC: aargh I forgot recitation was to attack also, so that'd move the 24 crit confirm to 26, does that matter? Or is he crit immune?
[20:43] <@Kotono> OOC: It does matter, moves it up to a crit.

[20:47] <@Kotono> Erad's punch hits the dragon-man right in the face, knocking his hood back and bloodying his nose. He appears as an old, withered man with green eyes, reeling from the blow. "Get him!" Helena presses at the same time, taking a single, powerful attack. OOC: Full attack to make one attack, chance to daze from shield slam.

[20:56] <@Kotono> The touches get him in the back, making freezing goldenfire appear and blaze across him. He stumbles as golden ice forms over his body, his staff dropped. It's held up much weaker now, far less at the ready to strike. "Teleportation block...ugh!" he swears in Draconic, turned into a cry of pain as Annerose's magic ravages his back. OOC: Inari.

[20:59] <@Kotono> Inari manages a slash across the dragon's side, drawing blood that soaks his robes. He tries to retort with his staff, but is too slow now. Indeed, Rock takes the chance to roar like a dragon and try and rip him apart.

[21:03] <@Erad> "Heh, you know, I always thought a fight against a dragon would be a little different." Erad says as he grins, going in to try and slam another series of punches into him! "No escaping justice this time!"

[21:05] <@Kotono> "You stupid-" The dragon-man begins, only to catch Erad's claw with his face again. There's a crack as his jaw snaps from the blow, his next words a slurry of pain and blood. He spits out a tooth and a great wad of blood, "Bastard pests," he manages to gasp in Draconic. OOC: Helena.
[21:05] <@Kotono> Helena just keeps pouring it on, trying to get him dazed and down.

[21:07] <@Kotono> This shield bash leaves the dragon stumbling back and then doubled over, coughing violently from the impact. "So be it," he says, starting to shimmer. OOC: Do any of you have the supernatural instincts feat?
[21:08] <@Inari> OOC: laf no
[21:09] <@Annerose> OOC: haha no
[21:09] <@Kotono> OOC: Erad might, hence me asking. I know he has stand still.

[21:10] <@Kotono> OOC: Okay then.
[21:10] <@Erad> OOC: No, I do not
[21:10] <@Kotono> The dragon man vanishes, only for the dragon to appear once more. It expands out, slamming everyone back as it tries to expand up. It hits the roof as sparks of light come from the contact. (More)

[21:10] <Kobot> Kotono rolled 1d20+9 --> [ 1d20=17 ]{26}
[21:13] <@Kotono> A snap. A half appeared dragon wing snaps audibly and the green dragon buckles from it, but a moment later the roof gives way as the dragon expands up and out. In the back, Annerose is sent against the back wall, while Rock, Erad and Inari on the sides are checked towards the side walls. Only Helena's safe, as he's attacking his front. [21:16] <@Kotono> OOC: And Helena's off the hook anyway, wow. Spacey today.
[21:18] <@Kotono> The party is knocked back. Pain fills Annerose as her burnt body has its ribs crushed, a crack as at least one gives way. She's slammed into the back wall hard, the entire party momentarily stunned as a massive dragon now dominates much of the area. The roof has collapses, the dragon starting to haltingly fly up, one wing only half working. OOC: AoOs, all. It's trying to cut and run.
[21:19] * @Annerose grabs onto the dragon's wing with her hand, digging into the golden ice spreading through it like veins!

[21:21] <@Kotono> OOC: Oh, my bad.
[21:21] <@Kotono> The dragon manages to fly up and out of the roof straight up, perhaps 100ft up. It's bleeding all over, blood raining down on the party along with stones. It's still in sights, straight up and barely in the air. OOC: Annerose.
[21:28] <@Annerose> "Not this time!" Annerose snarls, using another scroll to summon a celestial hippogriff and climbing on its back! "Inari, let's go!"
[21:28] <@Kotono> OOC: Inari's up.
[21:29] <@Inari> "Alright!" Inari jumps up onto the hippogriff behind Annerose and fires up a ball of foxfire at the dragon to remind it of her presence before they get into range.

[21:32] <@Kotono> OOC: Check the BoED statblock.
[21:33] <@Kotono> Annerose guides her mount up, flying above the dragon. It barely spares her a look, barely even reacting to the first missile. The second barely also gets a reaction, beyond a twitch. As this happens, Rock rages below, impotent. OOC: Erad.
[21:34] <@Erad> "Rock, stay here. But if that creature of light comes, just run out and don't attack it, okay? Go back to the wagon if you do." Erad says before he takes off after the dragon! OOC: Double-moving for 140 to go after.
[21:34] <@Kotono> OOC: Charging or just moving?
[21:35] <@Erad> OOC: Just moving.
[21:35] <@Kotono> OOC: Okay ,but it's 100ft away. How are you positioning yourself?
[21:36] <@Erad> OOC: Oh. Well then I'll go above it.

[21:37] <@Erad> OOC: Can I get into range of its other wing?
[21:37] <@Erad> OOC: By charging?
[21:37] <@Kotono> OOC: Sure.
[21:37] <@Erad> OOC: Okay.
[21:38] <@Erad> Erad takes off and charges at the other wing on the dragon! If they can disable it, hey, it might even just die by hitting the ground!
[21:38] <@Erad> roll 1d20+12+2+2 charge
[21:38] <Kobot> Erad rolled 1d20+12+2+2 charge --> [ 1d20=15 ]{31}
[21:38] <@Erad> roll 3d6+3+1d6
[21:38] <@Kotono> OOC: You will take an AoO since it has reach on you big time in this form. Okay with that?
[21:38] <Kobot> Erad rolled 3d6+3+1d6 --> [ 3d6=10 1d6=2 ]{15}
[21:38] <@Erad> OOC: AC is 23
[21:38] <@Erad> OOC: yep, that's fine
[21:38] <@Kotono> roll 1d20+30 (+4 ???) only misses on a 1
[21:38] <Kobot> Kotono rolled 1d20+30 (+4 ???) only misses on a 1 --> [ 1d20=5 ]{35}
[21:39] <@Kotono> roll 2d8+9 chewy
[21:39] <Kobot> Kotono rolled 2d8+9 chewy --> [ 2d8=9 ]{18}
[21:40] <@Kotono> Erad darts at the wing, a flying punch out to get it - but the dragon's neck snaps around, grabbing Erad in mid-flight, just before he reaches it. The dragonb ites into his leg, a moment of pain before Erad pushes forawrd. A great chunk of his leg's muscle and scale is torn away, blood pumping out furiously, but he goes on. He lands the blow on the wing, which cracks audibly. The dragon wobbles
[21:40] <@Kotono> in the air briefly before he plummets down, out of control. (More)
[21:41] <@Kotono> Helena looks up, eyes widening as the dragon falls. She screams something - it's lost in the moment as she sprints back the way the party came, desperately trying to dodge. Rock follows after a moment.
[21:41] <@Kotono> roll 1d20+11 evasion Helena
[21:41] <Kobot> Kotono rolled 1d20+11 evasion Helena --> [ 1d20=14 ]{25}
[21:42] <@Kotono> roll 1d20+5 Rock (+2 recitation) hardly matters since regeneration
[21:42] <Kobot> Kotono rolled 1d20+5 Rock (+2 recitation) hardly matters since regeneration --> [ 1d20=16 ]{21}
[21:45] <@Kotono> Both clear the cave just int ime, as it plummets down hard. It lands with a tremendous crash, the floor beneath it giving way. The dragon's body lies broken in a deep crater, water pouring in from the sides. Then for a moment reality is gone, a cold, clear wind blowing. When it is cleared, the party feels energized. Their wounds are healing, the snow of Auril's great winter continuing to fall
[21:45] <@Kotono> around them. OOC: Free act. 10 hit points restored each.
[21:46] <@Annerose> "Got him, at last!" Annerose cheers, guiding the hippogriff to the ground before it has a chance to be dispelled as her courre friend just has.
[21:46] <@Inari> "Good work everyone!" Inari cheers before looking over the side of the hippogriff and clutching Annerose's waist tighter until she brings it safely back down the ground.
[21:46] <@Kotono> Helena turns and stares, while Rock sniffs and comes on over to the corpse. "Strong. Smell strong," Rock opines, poking a scale.
[21:47] <@Erad> "...Heh... ......YEAH!" Erad shouts. "YEAH! You--... ..." Erad stops for a moment in his celebration to look up at the sky with a smile before he starts to fly back down.
[21:48] <@Inari> Considering people like to make clothes out of dragons, Inari has no objections to Rock eating it. "Just watch out for the acid glands," she warns him, casting mass lesser vigor on herself, Annerose, Rock, and Erad.
[21:48] <@Inari> OOC: +18hp over 18 rounds assuming no interruptions
[21:49] <@Kotono> Helena comes over, "It's really dead?" she asks, approaching the beast warily. "We had every advantage and we still barely won. Dragons really are that fearsome," she says, as the floor beneath the party's feet rumbles and shakes, a lurch downward.
[21:49] <@Inari> "Er, hold off on snacking for now Rock! Lets get on more solid ground and let things settle before we come back?" Inari suggests, hurrying back up out of the cave the way they originally entered.
[21:50] <@Annerose> "Come to think of it, I recall hearing about how eating an evil dragon's heart can make you stronger," Annerose tells Rock. "Not sure about the scales."
[21:51] <@Erad> "I'll keep an eye on it to let you know what's going on." Erad says as he takes off into the air to hover over the ground. "Maybe that guardian will let us pass now, heh."
[21:51] <@Kotono> OOC: What about you, Annerose? Staying, fleeing or something else?
[21:52] <@Annerose> OOC: Any idea what happened with the cold wind?
[21:52] <@Kotono> OOC: K:R.
[21:53] <@Annerose> roll 1d20+14+5
[21:53] <Kobot> Annerose rolled 1d20+14+5 --> [ 1d20=10 ]{29}
[21:56] <@Kotono> The cold wind was a sign of favor from Bahamut, along with the healing. He does tend to approve of his children who defeat prismatic dragons.
[21:57] <@Kotono> OOC: Chromatic, yes.
[21:57] * @Annerose retreats with the others, satisfied with their success!
[21:58] <@Kotono> The party retreats. Just as well, for the floor of the cave collapses under the dragon's bulk. It falls a good 40ft, a collapse downward as the cave itself gives way. Erad's fairly safe, as he's flying above the ground and below the hole in the ceiling. That is, until a great burst of light erupts along with an otherworldly cry. OOC: Ref save, Erad.
[22:00] <@Erad> roll 1d20+12+2 evasion
[22:00] <Kobot> Erad rolled 1d20+12+2 evasion --> [ 1d20=3 ]{17}
[22:00] <@Kotono> roll 10d6 full ow
[22:00] <Kobot> Kotono rolled 10d6 full ow --> [ 10d6=41 ]{41}
[22:01] <@Kotono> Erad is promptly blasted up, scorched and battered all over.Light erupts from the cave in all directions, like a nova, and only fades several moments later.
[22:03] <@Erad> "Guh... magic got discharged, huh." Erad takes a moment to steady and restore himself as he waits for his vision to return with a rub of his eyes.  OOC: Wholeness of Body Healing for 16.
[22:04] <@Annerose> "That happened," Annerose says, slightly awed. "Let's see if the guardian is still there? And whether we released an undead monster hunter?"
<Steph> I might have made a terrible mistake

Corwin

[19:58] <@Kotono> Helena stares at what happened, "That...happened, yes," she manages, gulping. "Yeah, we should probably see to that. Yeah."
[19:59] <@Inari> "Lets step lightly as we go back in then," Inari says, bestowing more healing on herself and Annerose.
[19:59] <@Inari> roll 2d8+8 me
[19:59] <Kobot> Inari rolled 2d8+8 me --> [ 2d8=10 ]{18}
[19:59] <@Inari> roll 2d8+8 Anne
[20:00] <Kobot> Inari rolled 2d8+8 Anne --> [ 2d8=4 ]{12}
[20:02] <@Kotono> Wounds heal as Inari channels her power. Rock stomps up and stares at Inari, pointing at his burns.
[20:02] <@Inari> "Oh of course Rock, I wouldn't forget about you!" she smiles and heals the troll.
[20:02] <@Inari> roll 1d8+5 cure light
[20:02] <Kobot> Inari rolled 1d8+5 cure light --> [ 1d8=7 ]{12}
[20:03] <@Annerose> "Thank you," Annerose says politely.
[20:03] <@Kotono> Thus the party goes in, with Erad above. Most of the way ahead has collapsed into a crater and ruin, the cave's structural integrity having given way. A few bits of the dragon are visible above the rubble, at least, but no way further on can be found. No sign of that light guardian, either.
[20:04] <@Annerose> "We could... dig it out?" Annerose suggests a bit uncertainly. "Rock could eat the heart, we could look for that staff?"
[20:06] <@Inari> "That's a lot of digging, isn't it?" Inari says. "I mean we still have those summon monster scrolls, we could maybe send some earth elementals down to have a look if there's anything worth digging first?"
[20:06] <@Annerose> "I only have one left," Annerose admits.
[20:06] <@Erad> "You had a point about dragon scales." Erad says with a nod. "They certainly aren't going to be of any use to it anymore, so I could try and cut some off, though I'm by no means any kind of hideworker."
[20:07] <@Kotono> "We could still try," Helena says, "But I'm mainly worried about the cave. Will it hold up long enough for us to do anything? Can those earth elementals answer that?"
[20:08] <@Inari> "They're... not very smart," Inari says, wincing.
[20:09] * @Annerose purses her lips. "How about Rock and Erad look into this?" she proposes. "Erad could fly up and escape in time, and Rock can't be hurt by mere rocks. In the meantime, I can go and get T. This might well be more his specialty."
[20:11] <@Inari> "Well, I'll at least try one elemental and see what happens," Inari says, fishing out a scroll and reading off it to produce a small earth elemental for a mere half a minute. "Go into the earth and look around then come back and tell us how stable it is for digging?" she tries. Maybe its elemental affinity will make up for its intellectual deficiencies?
[20:11] <@Kotono> OOC: How long does the elemental last for?
[20:12] <@Inari> OOC: 5 rounds
[20:13] <@Kotono> The elemental dives in and comes back less than a half minute later. It says to Inari, "Stable."
[20:13] <@Inari> "Well alright, if we can't trust an earth elemental who can we trust? Lets go bring the wagon over so we can start digging?"
[20:14] <@Annerose> "I'll see you all in a few, then?"
[20:14] <@Kotono> OOC: What's the plan then, y'all?
[20:15] <@Inari> Inari grabs Annerose's shoulder! "You just don't want to get all sweaty and dig with the rest of us!" she accuses.
[20:16] <@Annerose> "Which entirely true, it is equally true that T is waiting and we promised him that we would pick him up," Annerose responds, moving her left arm slowly. "And my shoulder is a bit tender still."
[20:17] <@Erad> "Let me take a look at where the dragon landed with a closer eye and see if I can find anything." Erad says. "After that, I'll see if I can get some scales off and have Rock help with that part."
[20:17] <@Inari> "Oh, I'm sorry!" Inari puts some healing into it while her hand is there. "But fine, if you want to be a lazy princess go ahead. I'm sure there'll still be plenty of digging for you and T when you get back here."
[20:17] <@Inari> roll 2d8+8 healz
[20:17] <Kobot> Inari rolled 2d8+8 healz --> [ 2d8=4 ]{12}
[20:18] <@Annerose> "You are such an eternal optimist! But so am I!" Annerose says brightly, perking up. "Thank you!"
[20:18] <@Kotono> Helena takes Annerose's other shoulder, "I think T can find his own way here," she says, "We  need all the hand we can get to dig."
[20:19] <@Kotono> OOC: PErception, Erad.
[20:19] <@Inari> "He won't know to come here unless someone fetches him. We said we'd come straight over after killing the dragon," Inari points out. "Although Erad could fly there fastest of all of us..."
[20:19] <@Erad> roll 1d20+15
[20:19] <Kobot> Erad rolled 1d20+15 --> [ 1d20=6 ]{21}
[20:20] <@Erad> "Aren't there spells that you can use to talk to people over long distances or something?" Erad calls out while he looks around. "Maybe we should get some scrolls of that for the future."
[20:21] <@Annerose> "Too expensive to be of use," Annerose responds, before smiling at Helena. "Going to keep me here by force after all?"
[20:21] <@Erad> "Oh, okay." Erad nods. "I guess you pay for convenience sometimes."
[20:22] <@Inari> "Oh, just go," Inari lets go and waves her hand. "Come on, lets all go to the wagon. No sense having anyone go alone while all those little monsters are still in the area."
[20:22] <@Kotono> The area looks fairly stable. It's a mess, no sign of a staff or anything. The dragon's mostly buried by cave in, so there's a lot of space you just can't see, though.
[20:23] <@Erad> Erad nods. "Okay, so one way or another we have to get the dragon out of all the rubble. I don't suppose we have any magic that can move all of it?"
[20:24] <@Inari> "We have shovels! And muscles!"
[20:25] <@Kotono> OOC: Okay, serious time. Plan?
[20:26] <@Annerose> OOC: Get T quickly, return, dig stuff
[20:26] <@Inari> OOC: Annerose goes to town for T, rest of us go get wagon and move it here, then dig/
[20:26] <@Erad> OOC: Yes, it is time to be digger lemmings.
[20:28] <@Kotono> OOC: Okay. Off into #evildunes, Annerose.

[20:37] <@Kotono> With word to pick up digging supplies, Annerose heads out. She goes off into the snowy afternoon, a pleasant trip that's interrupted an hour in. You see T, jogging through the snow as best he can. He looks to be making as fast a pace as the snow allows, well away from any village already.
[20:38] <@Annerose> "T!" Annerose calls out, waving at him. "What's wrong?"
[20:39] <@Kotono> T trots on up, "That entire village is one dragon cult," T swears, "I'm pretty sure I got the job done, but fuck. They have an inquisition and everything!"
[20:40] * @Annerose laughs. "What, really? How creepy is that!"
[20:42] <@Kotono> "Dangerous too," T says, "Hopefully that dragon comes and pays us a visit soon."
[20:42] <@Annerose> "Yeah, about that. We killed him."
[20:43] <@Kotono> "Well, that's great. Now we can go loot its - wait what?" T double takes at that, turning to Annerose lightning fast. So fast that he slips and falls face first into the snow.
[20:45] <@Annerose> Being a kind soul, Annerose helps T out of the snowbank and properly up on his feet. "We had a brilliant plan, what with the powerful guardian of light standing fast over an ancient treasure. Except he didn't last two seconds against the dragon so we had to go and kill him ourselves. Which we did. Which also broke the cave. And quite possibly unleashed an ancient evil onto the world."
[20:47] <@Kotono> T wipes sonw from his face, "Fantastic." he grunts, "Now what?"
[20:49] <@Annerose> "Everyone is digging out the dragon. And the cave, since it possibly has an ancient treasure further down. No worries, our experts told us it was safe! Oh, and I was going to pick you up and get some better supplies for the digging such as picks, but it sounds like a bad idea. Do you happen to have anything useful on you?"
[20:51] <@Kotono> "A hammer, which'll help some," T says, "Give me tomorrow and I might be able to creatively use the right spell to help out."
[20:53] <@Annerose> "Sure," Annerose agrees, slowly starting to head back. "You had to have been there! So the dragon shows up, just like we hoped. And he has this huge sack of cloth in his claws. So he drops it, and out come pouring all these kobolds. You know kobolds? They're the minion race, look a bit like man's best friend. Then they rush into the cave, and being minions get wiped out in hilarious and possibly nonlethal ways." Annerose pauses, then, tilting her head. "Though with the collapse and alll...."
[20:55] <@Kotono> OOC: Good to move back along to the other room as you regale T witl dragonslaying tales?
[20:55] <@Annerose> OOC: Okay
<Steph> I might have made a terrible mistake

[20:28] <@Kotono> OOC: Quick question. Do any of you have digging tools beyond those shovels you bought to move snow?
[20:28] <@Inari> OOC: masterwork shovels!
[20:29] <@Kotono> OOC: Like a pick, spade or anything like that?
[20:30] <@Annerose> OOC: We have Rock!
[20:30] <@Inari> OOC: shovels are spades. No picks though.
[20:31] <@Kotono> OOC: I know, just an example if any of you had anything like that.
[20:31] <@Kotono> OOC: I presume not, unless Erad has something on his sheet?
[20:32] <@Erad> OOC: Nope
[20:32] <@Erad> OOC: I'll just break rocks with my fists
[20:33] <@Erad> OOC: Or we could get Annerose and T to bring some back with them
[20:34] <@Kotono> OOC: Okay, feel free to tell her that if you want.
[20:36] <@Kotono> OOC: What's all of your Strength scores?
[20:36] <@Kotono> OOC: Helena is 14 and Rock 28.
[20:36] <@Inari> OOC: 16. Remember the +2 bonus from the masterwork shovel!
[20:37] <@Kotono> OOC: Someone look up Erad's real quick?
[20:38] <@Erad> OOC: Erad's 14
[20:38] <@Erad> OOC: I can also use Power Surge for +8 to it if we find a really big rock
[20:41] <@Kotono> Progress is slow and steady. The excellent shovels help, as does Rock's unnatural strength and Erad's occasional burst. You're able to clear much of the space around the dragon's front and head, making progress to its chest. It's taken a bit over an hour to get this far, the effort already being felt.
[20:42] <@Kotono> Helena pauses, leaning forward on hers. "So we get to the chest and tear out its heart or something?" she asks.
[20:43] <@Inari> "I suppose so? Do you just ram it in your mouth or is there a special way of cooking it to get the effect?"
[20:43] <@Erad> "I'm not really sure eating the heart of an evil dragon is a great idea, but..." Erad says. OOC: Any kind of K check on eating dragon hearts?
[20:43] <@Kotono> OOC: K:A.
[20:44] <@Erad> roll 1d20+3 arcane brick
[20:44] <Kobot> Erad rolled 1d20+3 arcane brick --> [ 1d20=16 ]{19}
[20:44] <@Kotono> Hmmm. Hmmmmmmmmm. Oh yes, Erad recalls something. To consume a dragon's heart is a mystical thing - you simply eat it raw.
[20:45] <@Erad> Erad makes a face. "You eat it raw. I'm still not fully of the opinion you -should- go and do something like that, but I guess worst case Rock just spits up a giant diamond or something..."
[20:47] <@Inari> "Well, lets clear out some space around the chest so Rock can have at it?" Inari says, starting to dig more that way.
[20:48] <@Erad> "All right." Erad nods and flies over to help with that.
[20:50] <@Kotono> Thus the party gets back to digging. It's harder work yet as the group goes along. OOC: Con checks, all. Endurance applies for a +4 bonus.
[20:50] <@Kotono> roll 1d20+3 Helena
[20:50] <Kobot> Kotono rolled 1d20+3 Helena --> [ 1d20=17 ]{20}
[20:51] <@Inari> roll 1d20+2
[20:51] <@Kotono> roll 1d20+12 Rock (+4 endurance)
[20:51] <Kobot> Inari rolled 1d20+2 --> [ 1d20=6 ]{8}
[20:51] <Kobot> Kotono rolled 1d20+12 Rock (+4 endurance) --> [ 1d20=5 ]{17}
[20:51] <@Erad> roll 1d20+3
[20:51] <Kobot> Erad rolled 1d20+3 --> [ 1d20=7 ]{10}
[20:53] <@Kotono> It takes another hour to reveal enough of the chest to work with. By this point, Inari's ears and tails are drooping. She's utterly wiped out, the heavy labor extremely taxing. Erad is much the same, arms feeling more like limp noodles than proper arms. Helena just keeps going with seemingly boundless energy, steadily working. Rock barely even seems to notice, still tossing rocks aside with the
[20:53] <@Kotono> occasional grunt. OOC: Both of you are exhausted.
[20:55] <@Erad> "Inari, take a break. This thing's my responsibility anyway." Erad says as he takes a moment to focus. He just killed a dragon, breaking some rocks really shouldn't bother him this much! OOC: Using Lay on Hands 10 points to remove exhausted
[20:55] <@Kotono> Energy refills Erad, wiping away the aches from the past two hours of heavy labor.
[20:55] <@Inari> "No it's fine," Inari sighs, "I can keep myself going."
[20:56] <@Inari> OOC:panacea cast to fix exhauastion
[20:56] <@Kotono> More energy avails itself to Inari, restoring herself to full energy.
<Steph> I might have made a terrible mistake

Corwin

[20:56] <@Kotono> As the two heal themselves, you can hear footsteps. "Damn," T whisles as he comes on in, "You actually did it."
[20:57] <@Annerose> "Now comes the fun part! Treasure, and avoiding all the traps and minions!"
[20:57] <@Erad> "He got overconfident." Erad says with a wave to T. "That and something prevented him from teleporting."
[20:57] <@Inari> "Oh, you were quicker than expected!" Inari beams approvingly, thrusting her shovel towards Annerose. "Just couldn't wait to help out, right?"
[20:58] <@Annerose> "Yes! And T has a hammer!"
[20:58] * @Annerose takes the shovel, saying, "So did you know that the entire village is a dragon cult, complete with an inquisition?"
[20:59] <@Inari> "I don't like that word, cult," Inari says, wrinkling her nose. "Just because some religions are smaller than others doesn't make them less legitimate!"
[20:59] <@Erad> "Uh... ...all to the same... thing, huh?" Erad asks. "I mean... you know, Tiamat?"
[20:59] <@Kotono> "No, this was a cult," T says as he goes and fishes out a shovel. "They have an inquisition and everything. Speak poorly of the great dragon? Whips and spikes for you."
[20:59] <@Annerose> "It's alright when we don't like the one at the center of the religion, isn't it?"
[21:00] <@Kotono> T shrugs, "Think so, could be worng. I didn't linger for details, they seem more on dragons than Tiamat, but I'm sure they could tell you more if you asked."
[21:00] <@Inari> "We can just call it a bad religion," Inari insists. "There's no need to stigmatise against smaller more local faiths."
[21:00] <@Kotono> Helena grunts as she tosses aside some loose rocks, "We could talk less and dig more?" she interjects, "Instead of wasting wind while Rock and I work?"
[21:01] <@Annerose> "Auril's cult! We hate Auril's cult!" Annerose tries out, just to see if it works for her.
[21:01] <@Erad> "Kind of wonder what would happen if I walked in, then." Erad says. "If it was Graxa...whatever his stupid name was, if it was his base of operations, that's probably where he kept all his treasures."
[21:02] <@Inari> "You can take a break too, Helena," Inari offers, nonetheless starting to occupy herself lifting boulders since Annerose has taken her shovel and can now dig dirt.
[21:03] <@Kotono> "Might be, but I got wind of what's probably his lair," T remarks, ignoring Helena. "There's a cave system a bit out of town, think it's it. The nice cultist I talked to said it was holy."
[21:04] <@Erad> "It sounds like we have a few places to investigate once we're done here, then." Erad says. "And possibly some more evil worshippers to get rid of."
[21:05] <@Annerose> "How long do we think we have before the fleeing kobolds try to loot it?" Annerose muses as she works. "And can they actually manage, between fear of this dragon or his crazy preparations?"
[21:06] <@Erad> "I wonder if they even know about it." Erad says. "I doubt he trusted them with that knowledge."
[21:06] <@Kotono> "Not sure, we can find out," T shrugs, getting to digging. OOC: Good to move laong?
[21:06] <@Erad> OOC: Sure
[21:07] <@Kotono> OOC: Con checks, all. +4 for Endurance.
[21:07] <@Kotono> roll 1d20+3 Helena

[21:09] <@Kotono> roll 1d20+3 T
[21:09] <Kobot> Kotono rolled 1d20+3 T --> [ 1d20=2 ]{5}
[21:09] <@Kotono> Another two hours to reveal as much of the chest as can be revealed, some of it hidden by the way it fell and lying flush on the ground. You can dig around to reveal more of, though. You have plenty of chest space to work with if you want to go heart-digging. However, Helena's almost out on her feet, while Annerose and Inari both feel utterly drained. Feet hurt, hands throb, muscles ache. OOC:
[21:09] <@Kotono> Exhausted, you two.  Helena and T as well.
[21:10] <@Kotono> T promptly goes to sit in front of the dragon, "Aaand that's the last of it here," he announces, "About damned time."
[21:11] <@Inari> "That's definitely enough for today," Inari says, sitting down. "Rip out its heart, Rock!"
[21:11] <@Erad> "T, do you know anything about hideworking?" Erad asks. "I'd like to get some scales off and maybe some bones, which I figure we can work on while they rest. You just have to help me with it, if you can."
[21:14] <@Kotono> "Not a thing," T admits, "It's ugly, smelly work. Ever been to a tannery?"
[21:14] <@Kotono> Rock goes to the chest, starting to tear into it right away.

[21:15] <@Erad> "A few times." Erad says. "That and I watched the people get the meat off those monsters outside the monastery, so I think I at least understand the basics. It doesn't have to be perfect. Well, just help hold it still for me and I'll see if I can cut some off that we can store for later."
[21:17] <@Kotono> Rock digs in and in - and suddenly yelps, skittering back like a scared puppy.
[21:17] <@Erad> "...Hm?" Erad looks over and then slowly starts to fly over to take a look.
[21:18] <@Inari> "Oh, did the acid gland get you?" Inari asks, going over to Rock. "Here, I'll protect you from it," she says.
[21:18] <@Inari> OOC: mass resist energy acid on Rock. And me and Annerose and Helena why not.
[21:18] <@Kotono> The chest scales have been torn open and meat has been revealed. Poking out is the end of a familiar staff, a few crackles of fire fading from it.  OOC: So noted, Inari.
[21:19] <@Inari> "Oh that's not the acid gland!"

[21:20] <@Erad> "...Haha. That doesn't make any sense. How did it even..." Erad shakes his head. "Hey, can one of you tell me if I'm going to blow up if I grab it?"

[21:20] <@Inari> "Let me check..." Inari casts detect magic and has a look. And divine insight for a better look!
[21:20] <@Kotono> T wrinkles his nose and says, "Some items merge into your body when you change form. That's...unusually direct about it."

[21:20] <@Kotono> The staff radiates overwhelming magic. It is an artifact, you can tell that much, one attuned to dragons. Beyond that Inari can tell nothing.
[21:21] <@Inari> "It's some sort of incredibly powerful dragon artifact. Probably safe for a sort of dragon like you to handle, Erad. Maybe. Always hard to tell with artifacts of such power."
[21:22] <@Erad> Erad makes a face. "Can you ward me against fire, then?" He nods to Annerose's suggestion.
[21:22] <@Inari> "Alright!"
[21:22] <@Inari> OOC: mass resist on Erad, Rock, Annerose, and Helena
[21:23] <@Erad> "Thanks." Erad nods and then goes over to grab at the staff and pull it out!
[21:24] <@Kotono> The staff feels warm in his hand as it pulls out smoothly. As he does...OOC: Will save, Erad.

[21:25] <@Erad> OOC: and since it might matter, +2 if it's an evil descriptor or something somehow
[21:25] <@Kotono> OOC: That actually does matter.
[21:28] <@Kotono> Erad feels his mind being overwhelmed. A dragon's roar, drowning out all thought. His mind, slipping away into darkness, goes numb. A monstrous, overwhelming mind of hate and hunger moves in - only for a brief, golden glow to surround him. It rallies his mind, and with a tremendous surge of will, pushes it back. The staff in his hand thrums with energy, just beneath the surface of the metal. He
[21:28] <@Kotono> feels as if he can call it out, if he only knows how.
[21:30] <@Erad> He takes a deep breath, steeling himself and his willpower. "Bahamut, give me the strength...!" With that, he tries to pull again, his thoughts focused on his patron deity!
[21:33] <@Kotono> OOC: Pulling the staff out of the dragon or do you mean pulling out that energy mentioned?
[21:34] <@Erad> OOC: Oh, I thought the it was the staff. My apologies. He'll try to pull the energy out by leaving his hand on the staff.
[21:34] <@Kotono> Nothing happens. He can still feel it, but that does nothing to do so.
[21:35] <@Erad> Well, nothing for it then, he'll have to meditate on it. So he'll try and wrench it free from the dragon's body for now.
[21:35] <@Annerose> "Maybe you should look further down its gullet?" Annerose suggests to Erad only half-jokingly. "Who knows what else he swallowed."
[21:36] <@Kotono> The staff easily comes out.
[21:37] <@Erad> Erad stutters back a bit at the ease at which it actually came out. "That's not a bad idea. Rock, go ahead." Erad gets out of his way to let him get back to what he was originally intending to do. "This is so ridiculous."
[21:37] <@Erad> "If I ever turn into a dragon for whatever reason, don't let me store my items inside my body, okay?"
[21:38] <@Annerose> "Not every dragon does it. Just the more paranoid ones."
[21:41] <@Kotono> "Yeah," Helena wrinkles her nose, as Rock gets back to it. Flesh is torn aside and soon Rock has it. The heart, big as a human, lies revealed. It is greenish and still lightly pulses, in spite of the dragon's demise.
[21:41] <@Inari> "That is a very big heart."
[21:41] <@Erad> Erad makes a face at that too. "Be careful, he might've stored something else stupid in there somehow."
[21:42] <@Kotono> T stares at it, "Dragons don't do anything small, do they?"
[21:42] <@Annerose> "I also heard that storing weapons in a dragon's heart makes them more potent," Annerose muses. "Same as eating the heart. But I never heard of any dragon actually using their heart that way."
[21:43] <@Kotono> Helena turns away as Rock simply starts ripping out chunks of it, noisily and wetly chewing the flesh. He eats at his normal, speedy pace, devouring it before your eyes.

[21:44] <@Annerose> "I must say, I'm very conflicted about this," Annerose admits to Helena, joining her.
[21:47] <@Kotono> "Yeah, I put it back in the wagon," Erad says, gesturing that way as Rock eats. As you do, you can notice greenish scales starting to form over his flesh. He's devouring it faster, growling loudly.
[21:48] <@Annerose> *T says
[21:51] <@Erad> "Uh..." Erad flies over to look. "I don't, uh..." OOC: K:A?

[21:54] <@Kotono> Erad isn't sure, but T speaks up, "He's doing an Inari," T says, watching with a grimace, "He's absorbing draconic essence and will become part dragon at this rate. Or that's what the stories say. Up to you on that, but you could probably stop it by interrupting him now."
[21:56] <@Erad> "I think, if it was anyone else, we'd agree that they deserve the chance to make that decision." Erad says with a frown. "He's proven himself to be an ally to us, I don't think this is going to change that."
[21:56] <@Inari> "I didn't ever absorb draconic essence!" Inari insists. That'd be a downgrade for her. "But will it make him want to sleep on gold instead of eating it?"
[21:57] <@Kotono> T shrugs, "You sprout new tails and change. Good enough for me." He shudders visibly after that. "Anyway, I have no idea."
[21:58] <@Erad> "Inari, just to be sure, can you tell him he's going to turn into part dragon if he continues?" Erad says. "He may not care, but... I don't want to make the decision for him."
[21:59] <@Inari> "Rock!" Inari shouts, getting up and walking (tiredly) over towards him. "You'll become part dragon if you eat the rest. Up to you if you think that'd be fun."

[22:00] <@Erad> Erad nods. "Thanks. I really need to learn Troll so you're not stuck being the translator. I know that's annoying." He gestures at the dragon.
[22:00] <@Kotono> Rock considers, "Acid hurt," he says in Giant, "Dragon strong. Rock strong. Rock eat strong, get strong." He then goes back to the heart, devouring away.
[22:02] <@Inari> "Good for you," Inari approves, patting him on the back and then going to sit down. "He's pretty good at common these days."
[22:04] <@Erad> With that in mind, Erad will just stay nearby in case there's another dragon artifact stuffed in there like a toy.
[22:04] <@Kotono> Rock eats and eats. His stony skin shifts, gaining a slightly green cast as the pebbled surface appears as scaly as it is stony. His muscles bulge by the time he's finished, facial features a bit sharper. "Good," Rock says in common, before burping loudly. OOC: Rock gains the draconic creature template, he'll pay off the LA next leel.
[22:05] <@Inari> "Lets go back outside so the rest of us can get dinner and then sleep?" Inari suggests once Rock finishes eating.
[22:07] <@Kotono> OOC: Good to move along to the next day, y'all?
[22:08] <@Erad> OOC: Erad's going to do some meditation on the staff and the sword for what it's worth and also try and carve out some of the scales
[22:08] <@Inari> OOC: we're about pausing time anyway but sure

[20:04] <@Kotono> Erad meditates this evening. In his mind's eye he sees images of the battle. He sees the dragon holding the staff as it spread flames over the party, calling out words of power and holding it aloft. He feels a tingle in his hand at this, like lightning.
[20:07] <@Erad> Oh, perhaps that's all there is to it, then, just saying the words again. He'll get away from the party just to be on the safe side and make sure he isn't near anything dangerous to try it out.
[20:10] <@Kotono> OOC: Describe what you're trying.
[20:11] <@Erad> He'll walk to a clearing and just hold the staff out and see what happens! "Ixen!" He'll just start with 'fire' and see what happens.
[20:12] <@Kotono> Nothing happens.
[20:13] <@Erad> He shrugs and tries again! "Ixen caex!"
[20:15] <@Kotono> The rest of the party is eating dinner around the wagon. It's a pleasant time, a warm fire and good food soothing the day's efforts. Everyone's more than a bit tired, conversation muted. That is, until a flash of red light comes from where Erad's working. Erad can feel it as it happens, a draw on his body as flames burst out all around him. The snow is flash-melted, steam rising up from the
[20:15] <@Kotono> flames. But he feels woozy after invoking it, dazed. OOC: 15 damage.
[20:15] <@Kotono> "The hell?" T looks over, frowning a bit.
[20:15] <@Inari> "Everything okay over there Erad?" Inari calls over, not looking up from her plate.
[20:15] <Annerose> "Was that fire?"
[20:16] <@Kotono> Helena shivers and holds her arms up defensively, "I think it was," she says, almost pained.
[20:18] <@Erad> Erad coughs a few times as he returns to the others, shaking the staff a few times. "Well, I think I figured out how it works, sort of. I'm fine, nothing a bit of rest won't fix."
[20:19] <Annerose> "Good thinking going far, far away first!"
[20:19] <@Inari> "Okay, just be careful!"
[20:20] <@Kotono> "Really?" T looks up, "How's it work?"
[20:21] <@Erad> "Yeah... I'll do some more meditating on it before I work with it again." Erad agrees. "It might in how you hold the thing, I know whatshisface was holding it a specific way, maybe that's how you direct it... Huh? Oh, you just shout 'fire sword' in Draconic and then it does its thing. I wonder if it can do other things, though... Like that long-ranged fireball."
[20:24] <@Kotono> "Wonder if it'll work for others? Have you tried other words?" T asks, "Like whatever ice sword in Draconic is?"
[20:27] <@Erad> "No, not yet. I'll try that tomorrow." Erad says.
[20:27] <@Kotono> "Alright," T says ,going back to the meal. OOC: What's the party's plans for tomororw?
[20:28] <Annerose> OOC: Let's dig below and find the rest of the caverns
[20:29] <@Inari> OOC: digdigdig
[20:29] <@Erad> OOC: And also see if that door isn't blocked off and/or open
[20:30] <@Kotono> OOC: Okay.
[20:31] <@Kotono> First of all, going around the dragon to check on the door isn't happening. It's caved in behind it and getting to that door would require lots of digging - assuming it's intact at all. You could do that, or you could dig downward to see if there's anything below in the dragon's rubble or something else.
[20:32] <Annerose> "The earth elemental said there were caverns below, right?" Annerose doublechecks with Inari.
[20:35] <@Inari> "No, just said it was stable. I could summon another one to check directly below?" she offers, fishing out another scroll and doing just that regardless. She wants to save effort if it's going to be pointless! "Go down and see if there are any caverns below then come back and tell us," she instructs.
[20:35] <@Inari> OOC: 5 round duration
[20:36] <@Kotono> The elemental appears and goes down, coming back up. It replies, "Solid. No air."
[20:36] <@Inari> "Well, glad we found that out before doing any digging!"
[20:37] <@Kotono> "Just as well," T says, "This is days and days and days of work. It's what, the 16th? We may not get out of here until Pess is done if we stay."
[20:38] <@Inari> "I think we're done here, the monster hunter's tomb will have to remain a mystery. But maybe we'll find the dragon's lair somewhere else around that town?"
[20:38] * Annerose sighs. "For now, at least," she agrees. Her magic will grow! "I think we should just head in the direction we saw the dragon fly from. We'll likely spot a kobold eventually."
[20:39] <@Erad> "Well, it's surely not going anywhere." Erad says. "We can always come back if we want to, we know where it is. Oh, I was thinking about something." Erad turns to look at T. "So, this is a bit morbid, but hear me out -- you like daggers, right? What if we took some of this dragon's bones and had someone craft you some? If you even wanted them, anyway."
[20:41] <@Kotono> "Sure, that's a good idea," T says without blinking, "Say 'nari, there's magic in that sort of thing, right?"
[20:42] <@Inari> "Well you saw what eating the heart did for Rock, right?" Inari says. "Although I don't know if that means there's no magic left for anything else or not."
[20:44] <@Erad> "Well, give me some time to scour for any other... whatever that might be hidden in there. I don't mind getting my hands dirty, as it were." Erad says. "Might find something useful."
[20:44] <@Kotono> OOC: What's your plan then?
[20:45] <@Erad> OOC: I'll go hunting through its body for anything else lodged in anywhere. I guess the ladies can throw a detect magic to help identify if there's anything left?
[20:47] <@Erad> OOC: If there's not any magic then I'll just cut out some larger bones so we have a good collection.
[20:50] <@Kotono> OOC: Do you any of you have ranks in anything relevant for dragon cutting/surgery/taxidermy?
[20:51] <Annerose> OOC: No!
[20:51] <@Kotono> OOC: Emphatic. Okay. Make an Int check, Erad, we'll see how it goes.

[20:53] <@Kotono> The day passes in dragon cutting. After several hours of hacking, you find an extremely stained and familiar thing - the dragon-man's robe. It's deep, near the dragon's stomach. You could extract it if you like.
[20:56] <@Erad> "...This is the weirdest thing." Erad mumbles to himself. "Hey, Inari, Annerose, can you check this for me?"
[20:57] <@Inari> "Only if Annerose cleans it first!"
[20:57] <Annerose> "Certainly!" Annerose responds to both requests.

[20:57] <Kobot> Annerose rolled 1d20+14 --> [ 1d20=19 ]{33}
[21:00] <@Kotono> It's cleaned as much as possible and checked. There's faint magic in it - the sort of magic from being the possession of a supernatural creature for a long time. If worn by a creature, they will gain a small bit of a dragon's might. As long as a creature wears it, they gain dragontouched as a bonus feat.
[21:01] <Annerose> "It kind of makes whoever wears it pretend to be a dragon, and magically unlocks some more draconic powers with a lot of time and effort," Annerose muses.
[21:02] <@Erad> "Huh." Erad shrugs at that. "We might be able to use that to trick the cultists, then. Well, I'll get back to work."
[21:03] <@Kotono> From there the rest of the day goes to getting bone fragments of the right size. It's tough work, but Erad gets a decent selection of them.
[21:04] <@Erad> "Do we want to deliver the dragon's head to that asshole back in Arnam?" Erad asks. "I can't deny I wouldn't mind seeing the look on his face when we just throw it on his desk."
[21:04] <Annerose> "It would smell. Really bad."
[21:05] <@Kotono> Helena wrinkles his nose, "Ew."
[21:05] <@Inari> "I don't want to carry something so big and smelly around, no," Inari agrees.
[21:06] <@Erad> "Well, I think that about does it here, then."
[21:06] <Annerose> "Time to part a dragon from his treasure!"
[21:08] <@Erad> "I don't think we have any need to worry about anyone discovering the hidden treasures in here while we're out." Erad agrees.
[21:09] <@Kotono> OOC: What's your plan now?
[21:09] <Annerose> OOC: Move in reciprocal course to the one the dragon took, look for caverns and hideouts, look for kobolds
[21:09] <@Erad> OOC: Do we want to look for the lair first or go to the town first?
[21:10] <Annerose> OOC: LAIR
[21:10] <@Inari> OOC: lair works
[21:11] <@Erad> OOC: Lair it is then!
[21:12] <@Kotono> OOC: T mentioned he knows where the lair me be, yeah.
[21:12] <@Kotono> OOC: Going for that or something else?
[21:13] <@Erad> OOC: I think we're going for that and then see where it leads us.
[21:13] <@Inari> OOC: we can follow his directions sure.

[21:29] <@Kotono> As you travel, you see kobold tracks. Based on the way they're going, it suggests the surviving kobolds broke up and ran in different directions. There's no great unity to them, going off this way and that.
[21:31] <@Inari> "Lots of kobold tracks about," Inari says but she doesn't care to chase them down given the head start they got. T's directions to the probable lair will suffice for her.

[21:36] <@Kotono> The day's travels are unremarkable. Evening's close as you approach a slight depression in the ground. Trees litter the ground here, T gesturing yo uon over. "It should be in here somewhere," he says. Above, the clear skies of the day have given way to dark clouds, the threat of snow looming once more. T's breath mists out in front of him, constantly trailing behind him.
[21:37] <Annerose> "We can look around in pairs?"
[21:38] <@Inari> "What's the hurry? We can roam around as a group," Inari says, not wanting more squabbling like last time.
[21:39] <Annerose> "I thought T would complain if we spent too long out here in the pleasant snow."
[21:43] <@Kotono> T rolls his eyes, "Right, let's just look." OOC: Going on to look, y'all?
[21:43] <@Erad> OOC: I'll fly around!
[21:44] <@Inari> OOC: lets!
[21:46] <@Kotono> Looking around's easy enough. You don't see any defenses - only a cave entrance hidden away by the trees and depressions. It's rather large and you don't see anyone around.
[21:48] <@Inari> "Okay, I'll hide the wagon so no one running out decides to steal it or kill the horses," Inari says, a little bit of mirage arcana burying their wagon in an illusory snowdrift as it comes to a stop. Then she disembarks and starts heading towards the cave, foxfire flickering down into it ahead of her.
[21:48] <@Erad> "What are the chances he didn't set any magical traps? Zero?" Erad asks as he follows along.
[21:49] <Annerose> "There is a nonzero chance that the first trap is nonmagical," Annerose says sagely. "This is why we have T, isn't it? T?"
[21:50] <@Kotono> "Yeah. Let me go ahead," T says, "If I don't make it...Inari..." He looks to her and grins, "Smack Annerose upside the head for me, alright?" He heads on in, searching.

[21:51] <Kobot> Kotono rolled 1d20+15 --> [ 1d20=15 ]{30}
[21:52] <@Inari> "You'll be fine, I'm right behind you," Inari says reassuringly, prepared to dispense healing if traps are sprung unseen.
[21:52] <@Kotono> Helena snorts but doesn't comment otherwise, T going on in. With light you can see him search it - it rapidly slopes downhill. He kneels by a wall, fiddling with something. "Yeah, there's a trap," he calls, "Something rigged into the ceiling to fall. From the smell of it, I think it's oil. That and there's murderholes all along the slope, entire thing's meant to be a killzone. But I'm not seeing
[21:52] <@Kotono> or hearing anything, and I bet they're normally manned by kobolds."
[21:52] <Annerose> "Just remember to make it! It was prophecized that the dragon has really nice things for us!"
[21:55] <@Inari> "He did bring an awful lot of them out towards the other cave, probably left his home understaffed," Inari says, peering into one of the murderholes.
[21:56] <@Kotono> Inari can see something within - what looks to be an empty tunnel complex behind it. There's baskets there that look full of arrows.
[21:57] <@Inari> She nods to that and then moves back behind T.
[22:03] <@Kotono> Thus the party heads down. This slope goes on a goodly while until you reach a bowl shaped room. Here doors lead into the walls and tunnels you saw, and the way ahead is barred by an opaque field of white light.
[22:03] <Annerose> "Let's take a look!" Annerose says perkily.
[22:03] <Annerose> roll 1d20+14 spellcraft
[22:03] <Kobot> Annerose rolled 1d20+14 spellcraft --> [ 1d20=20 ]{34}
[22:05] <@Kotono> It's a special barrier of force. It's like a wall of force, except it's keyed to allow two things to pass: a particular green dragon and the bearers of a particular magical staff. Otherwise, you'd need to disintegrate it somehow to get past.
[22:06] * Annerose laughs. "So wouldn't you know it? Unless you're that old dragon, the only other way through if with the staff."
[22:08] <@Kotono> Helena smiles, "Seriously? Our plan's worked better than I ever imagined it."
[22:09] <Annerose> "Worked out pretty well," Annerose agrees. "I think Erad could just pass while crossing and we could all go with him."
[22:12] <@Kotono> "Well then," T says, gesturing, "Gonna do it, Erad?"
[22:15] <@Erad> "Might as well try." Erad says with a nod. "Well, let me make sure it works just by myself, first."
[22:15] <@Erad> With that, he'll approach the barrier and tentatively step across to make sure nothing else happens on the other side.
[22:16] <@Kotono> OOC: Holding the staff?
[22:17] <@Erad> OOC: Yes.
[22:18] <@Kotono> Erad approaches with the staff, the barrier parting before you. Ahead is a massive, carved out room. It is no cave, but a pillared and supported room of great size. In the center is a great mass of coins and other things. Chests ring the perimeter of the coinpile, closed shut and possibly holding more wealth yet. Doors on thew alla re open, leading into other rooms. You catch glimpses of weapons
[22:18] <@Kotono> and armor, as well as odder things yet. T whistles lowly and says one word, "Jackpot!"
[22:19] <Annerose> "Hold a second," Annerose says, checking for magic and hoping it's not a trap or illusion.
[22:19] <@Kotono> There's magic here. OOC: Spellcraft.
[22:20] <Annerose> roll 1d20+14
[22:20] <Kobot> Annerose rolled 1d20+14 --> [ 1d20=1 ]{15}
[22:20] <@Kotono> There's overwhelming and multiple sources of magic here. It's all too much for Annerose, who falls over, dazed.
[22:20] <@Inari> "Oh, ah definitely don't touch anything yet!" Inari says, casting panacea on Annerose first before using detect magic herself.
[22:21] <@Inari> roll 1d20+14 spellcraft
[22:21] <Kobot> Inari rolled 1d20+14 spellcraft --> [ 1d20=15 ]{29}
[22:22] <Annerose> "Thanks," Annerose says shakily, using Helena's help to climb to her feet. "Can't be a trap if it's that strong."
[22:23] <@Kotono> There's layered spells here. The first is a powerful one to prevent objects from decaying or weathering here. It keeps things here protected from the ravages of the ages. The second is an effect that empowers green dragons within, allowing them to heal fast and breathe at will. The third is a spell that reveals the alignment of any non green dragon that enters, as well as negating invisibility
[22:23] <@Kotono> and forcing incorporeal creatures out.  The fourth is a spell that blocks scrying and the like.
[22:23] <@Inari> "Nothing dangerous to us," Inari says. "Just defensive things to protect a lair from sneaky thieves and making the dragon stronger - good thing we never fought him here!"
[22:25] <@Erad> Erad nods. "Fitting for him."
[22:25] <@Kotono> "Then...this is it?" Helena asks, peering inside, "Those coins alone," she points to it, a massive sprawl of gold that seems to go on and on and on.
[22:25] <@Inari> "Erad, why don't you go bring the wagon inside so we can load it up easily?" Inari suggests. "We'll start sorting and appraising everything here."
[22:26] <Annerose> "No, I'm sure there must be magical weapons," Annerose muses. "Something suitable for us, too!"
[22:26] <@Kotono> OOC: I assume a lot of take 10ing is going to happen here. If so, note your totals and I'll make the big loot post.
[22:26] <@Inari> OOC: 24 on spellcraft
[22:26] <Annerose> OOC: I'll roll spellcraft for anything that might get missed by Inari
[22:27] <@Inari> OOC: 21 on history, 24 on nature and religion in case knowledges help with anything
[22:27] <@Erad> Erad nods. "Just be careful about going anywhere else in case there's other nonsense that's activated with this staff."
[22:28] <Annerose> OOC: 18 dungeoneering, 14 engineering
[22:28] <@Kotono> OOC: Post.
[22:36] * Inari is now known as Ebiris
[22:40] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+14 Inari searches for hidden doors. Like an elf or something.
[22:40] <Kobot> Ebiris rolled 1d20+14 Inari searches for hidden doors. Like an elf or something. --> [ 1d20=2 ]{16}
[22:41] <@Kotono> It turns out Inari is not an elf, for she finds no secret doors or traps.
[22:41] <@Ebiris> Shocker.
[22:41] <@Erad> OOC: Erad will take 10 for 25 and carry the staff with him in case it magically unlocks something!
[22:42] <Annerose> roll 1d20+8+5 K:H
[22:42] <Kobot> Annerose rolled 1d20+8+5 K:H --> [ 1d20=14 ]{27}
[22:42] <@Kotono> Erad searches around, including the back of the magic weapon room. It's here that he finds something - a slight groove in the wall, notably out of place.
[22:44] <@Erad> Erad will see if he can find the switch that's assuredly located in the groove, and if not, have T come over and take a look. Barring that, he'll also try and put the head of the staff in the groove if nothing else works!
[22:45] <@Kotono> Erad doesn't find a switch, but he finds a grip. Something he can grab onto in there, like a pull bar.
[22:46] <@Erad> He'll pull! Pull with all his might!
[22:46] <@Erad> Or just pull like normal if that's how it works.
[22:46] <@Kotono> There's a pop as that section of the wall comes lose, sliding away. It leads to a short hallway and a stairway going down.
[22:47] <@Erad> Time to investigate!
[22:49] <@Kotono> Erad heads on downstairs. It leads down a little bit, until you come to another door. A simple wooden door, but it's traced with strange runes.
[22:49] <@Erad> Erad will look to see if they're perhaps draconic!
[22:51] <@Kotono> Erad has no idea what they are. They aren't draconic.
[22:52] <@Erad> He'll have to go get the others once they're done sorting through everything, then! OOC: Intent is to get the magic-knowers to see if they can puzzle it out.
[22:52] <Annerose> roll 1d20+14 spellcraft!
[22:52] <Kobot> Annerose rolled 1d20+14 spellcraft! --> [ 1d20=4 ]{18}
[22:53] <@Ebiris> roll 1d20+14 spellcraft
[22:53] <Kobot> Ebiris rolled 1d20+14 spellcraft --> [ 1d20=10 ]{24}
[22:55] <@Kotono> Inari comes on down. While Annerose comes up all question marks, Inari is able to figure it out. It needs a password in Draconic to open.
[22:55] <@Ebiris> "It needs a password in draconic to open," Inari announces. "Unless you can guess it Erad, T might be able to fool it."
[22:56] <@Erad> "Any idea what happens if you get it wrong?" Erad asks.
[22:57] <@Ebiris> "Er... no, I don't actually," Inari admits, shrugging. She steps back a few paces afterwards.
[22:57] <@Erad> "Either way, let me try a few things." He'll get the others cleared out in case it blows up or something, then tries a few things: Tiamat, Green, Graxanaxy and then also Password in Draconic.
[23:00] <@Kotono> To your surprise, calling out achuak makes the door unlatch audibly.
[23:02] <@Erad> Time to investigate!
[23:03] <@Kotono> Within lies the following: A four foot long rod carved of polished white wood, a scroll wrapped in a blue ribbon, a spear with a tip made of what looks to be red scales, a large vial of what looks roiling, boiling blood, a breastplate of what looks to be blue ice, and a pair of white gloves inlaid with aquamarines.
[23:05] <@Kotono> T whistles, "It's like the world's finally listening," he remarks, "Treasure everywhere."
[23:05] <Annerose> "The best treasure!" Annerose agrees, drifting towards the gloves.
[23:05] <@Kotono> Helena follows, going right to that breastplate, "Oh, I'd wanted to buy the one I sold back," she says, running a hand along it. "It's so nice now."
[23:06] <@Ebiris> Inari has a look at that spear but doesn't play favourites, checking everything for magic.
<Steph> I might have made a terrible mistake
