NPCs really need to get into the habit of eating a snack now and then so they benefit from Heroes Feast.

"Oh Mei," Afina shakes her head sadly. "I know you're an ascetic but the food at the mess hall is there to protect you from things like this. I'll take care of it," she walks over and employs a limited wish to mimic the effects of neutralise poison on her.

A pity she can't cast planar bubble on Smrgol, since she made him on Air he'd be sure to provide lots of nice fresh air around him if asphyxiation is Mei's concern. Might even allow flight, admittedly within a tiny radius around him. "Alright, I'm guessing the air here's bad. Back up everyone, we'll just climb over the cave instead."

In a hurry you make it out, Mei coughing and coughing outside. But she slowly recovers, as Dana considers, "Mine gas. Fucking mine gas, preening asshole. Of course, make a cave that's a poisonous fucking death zone. I'm going to punch that lich right in the fucking withered cock he calls a phylactery."

"Really Mei, I'm disappointed in you for neglecting your health," Afina says, forcing herself to be stern since this has compromised their efforts. What if there's something important in that cave? "The mess hall isn't just for indulging in gluttony, it serves a vital tactical role in keeping everyone fit for all manner of hazards on our missions. Please take more care in the future?"

Mei bows her head and nods to your words. She flushes, posture slumping.

Lecture given, Afina climbs onto Smrgol's back and waits for the others to do the same before asking him to climb up the mountainside above the cave entrance.

You go up another 1000ft or so, climbing higher and higher. As you do, Afina looks up. She can see them - boulders far above, even out of hearing range. Her superior eyesight lets her see them starting to tumble down at you like a tidal wave. Gives you plenty of time to react.

This hasn't worked the last few times, do they think she's going to run out of spells? Three hundred feet farther up a wall of stone erupts out of the cliff-face, built at a slant so it will provide a channel for any rocks rolling down will be redirected off to the side away from their climbing path.

As you're shielded from them Dana holds on and asks, "This is the bullshit I hate in war. It's not about a fight, it's about fucking attrition."

"We're always on the wrong side of that unfortunately. Outnumbered and pushing ourselves against enemy defences." Admittedly if she'd went with the stealth assassination option she could have likely evaded all the defences thus far without anyone noticing she was here... barring her inability to climb, anyway. But to be honest she has more fun crushing everything with a giant golem.
