It's a nexus of overwhelming elemental power. The magic here is staggering, Ice's power on full display. The waters are hyper-reactive and charged with that elemental power. Anything touching them will have effects. Big effects. In the case of the sword, it simply overwhelmed it. Most material things would be. You aren't sure about a living creature touching it, though.

"So that's Ice's power nexus," Jaela muses out loud with a whistle. "Sword got overwhelmed by the elemental charge, but people'll probably be changed if they're strong enough."

"It would turn you into a part ice elemental," Afina conjectures. "From all descriptions this place is an equivalent to Magmasoul on Fire, where I began my own elemental transformation. I'm not here to go that far, although this place would be good for meditation I haven't learned enough yet. Lets fly around to look for any wardens? Unless one of you wishes to follow in my footsteps."

"I want to become a troll like Mom," Jaela demurs.

"Jaela, what did-" Hanna begins to say sweetly, but is interrupted.

"MOVE!" Mirajane shouts, kicking off Hanna and flying upwards, fast.

Jaela doesn't question it, she moves! But not at her top speed. Rather, she matches Mirajane's and prepares to tackle her out of the way or take a hit for her, whichever ends up necessary.
