Persons of National Repute

King Victor Crescencia III: The present monarch of Verdana. His family line has held the throne since the kingdom's foundation four and a half centuries ago. King Victor's personal standing with the populace is mixed, but respect for the institution of monarchy persists. King Victor was crowned twelve years ago, after the death of his markedly unpopular father, [King Roderic Crescencia IV].

Queen Leonora Crescencia: King Victor's wife. Like almost all royal spouses, Queen Leonora originally hails from the upper tier of the nobility. The King and Queen have yet to produce a living heir.

Prince Hector Crescencia: The King's brother, younger by but a couple years. The titles of Prince and Princess are extended only to offspring of monarchs in Verdana, and are not passed on to their own children unless they too should succeed the throne in turn. Prince Hector is a popular personality with Verdana's military, and has been posted to the far northeastern port town of Fortisano so as not to outshine the King's presence at court.

Princess Viviana Crescencia: Wife to Prince Hector. The couple has two sons, Manuel and Leon.

Princess Ursula Crescencia: Younger sister of Victor and Hector. Princess Ursula is unmarried and spends much of her time engaged in charitable endeavors or with the churches. Her cherished nickname amongst the common people is "Verdana's Little Bear."

Bruno Arata: Recently appointed captain of the Solfrina Militia.

"Blackburn": A rumored organization of subversives that targets crown offices for maximum destruction and embarrassment.

Rocina Militia

Sergeant Cala Embriz: Commander of the Rocina Militia. Goes by her previous army rank instead of the more formal "Captain" usually used for Militia commanders. An old soldier with little time to spare for nonsense.

???: An insouciant, orange and yellow housecat that apparently calls the Militia watchtower home, sometimes, when it feels like it.

Morning Squad

Noemi Evereaux: Corporal in charge of the morning squad. Carries a musket. Her name and dark skin suggest Basse heritage.

Nico Martia: A tall, powerfully-built blond man assigned to the morning squad. Occasionally remembers to shave.

Carmen Viola: An unsociable young woman assigned to the morning squad. Has the look of an apprentice magician.

Florina Alvarado: A blond half-elf assigned to the morning squad. Seems unfriendly.

Day Squad (Junior)

Eliseo Meria: Older man in charge of the junior squad. Keeps a carefully trimmed beard and mustache. Seems skeptical of everyone and everything. Evidently an observer in the employ of the Ministry of Security.

Silvia Charidad: Energetic young blond woman who favors braided hair. Believed by Cala to have enlisted to scout for a husband. Spends her mornings teaching in the local school.

Zoraida Argi: A friendly lookout with curly black hair and an exceptionally buxom build. Has a young daughter named Clarisa.

Mado Arturez: A fairly dim but highly vigilant teenage boy.

Night Squad

Isidro Jorda: Corporal in charge of the night squad. Son of Rocina's long-serving mayor.

Paloma Benitez: A short, wiry girl with a dusky complexion. Carries a bow.

Anita Riquez: A quiet but pretty redheaded girl whose voice sounds as though it would make her a natural singer. Presently serving in the militia at her parents' insistence.

??? ???: A dashing, black-haired man. Tall, elegant, and self-assured as few other than a sorcerer could possibly be.

Other Rocina Militia

Amelia Belo: Middle-aged forest ranger. Employed by the Militia for tracking. Works with her part-wolf dog, Cezar.

Donato Rufin: A local acolyte of Peratus sometimes called upon by the Rocina Militia for medical assistance.

Other Rocina Locals

Baron Vicente Sastre: Absentee landlord who owns substantial amounts of farmland outside town. Usually in Vildiana working for the crown.

Arlisto Dimas: Overseer of the Baron's estate during Don Vicente's absence.

Iliandariel Bosque: An elven miller. Owns property next to the Sastre estate.

Daphne: An aging dryad living out her last years, hopefully quietly, in the woods next to Bosque's mill.

Lunesa Arsene: Rocina's local priestess of Nyris. Middle-aged and appropriately studious.

The Quierdo family: A prosperous farming family who until recently lived just south of Rocina. The parents, [Felix] and [Jacinta], were killed when ill-advised magical experiments upon their livestock went awry. Their daughter, Joana, was petrified by a cockatrice, and is currently awaiting magical assistance from the church of Nyris. Felix's younger sister, [Elena], studied magic in the capital until reportedly killed in a duel. Some correspondence allegedly sent to her family from her deathbed is believed by Deacon Arsene to be forged.

The Pasquale family: Eder and Adela, the proprietors of a lodging house in a village called Axcon, en route to Rocina from the western city of Caxcara.

Mireni: A filthy harpy vagrant who loiters around the nearby village of Axcon.

Solfrina Residents

["Gloria Cadena"]: An elven weaver of considerable talent, recently murdered, and then seemingly disinterred from her grave. Ultimately discovered to be an undead bent on the destruction of her murderers. Birth name Glorivaineth.

Isabel Neves: Gloria's former apprentice. A serious young woman intent on locating her mentor's remains. Currently displaced from her hometown after the undead Gloria's rampage.

Bandits and Other Outlaws

["Steel Petrona"]: Brigand responsible for the murder of several people passing through Rocina for trade. Formerly of the Royal Navy, now a long ways from the sea. A pugilist who fights wearing a menacing metal mask. Publicly executed after being returned to Soli.

["Black Hand Teo"]: A swashbuckling brigand responsible for waylaying another caravan outside of Rocina, and similarly a mutineer from Soli. Ripped apart in battle by Leona, and then finished by a timely crossbow bolt from Silvia.

Ananda Guerin: The remaining ringleader of the Soli mutiny, according to the Solfrina Courier.

Foreigners and Other Wanderers

Driscanir Hilsvard: A young lady from Isvenstahl who came to Verdana in search of her sister, a necromancer suspected to be up to some manner of local mischief.

Zia: A purple-haired elven performer possessed of unusual grace. Travels with a pair of musicians titled her Twin Stars.

Yulieleranwyn: An elven spiritualist reported by Gloria to be a divisive presence in the elven community. Suspected by Gloria to actually be of half-elven heritage.

Lethia: The traditional elven deity. Not canonically ascribed a specific gender, which often causes pronoun confusion in languages other than elven. Invoked by Glorivaineth upon her final death.
