You find a few smudges on the walls, hints of the smoky vapors that filled the hall. You get a few samples of it easily enough once found.

You find a tiny bit of glass on the floor, residue on them as well.

Alyssa collects the glass, surely from a vial. So it's likely some sort of alchemical smoke, which means the ingredients should be identifiable! Off to research!

You aren't sure on the finer details, as alchemy isn't an area of study for you, but it seems to be a fairly straight forward smoke bomb. Unusually potent, perhaps.

The expert is Researcher Malcas, a man tall and with a heavy limp, leaning on a cane despite only being perhaps 40. Human but with eyes of pure silver, an oddity to be sure. "The residue suggests unusual potency," he begins, "It's easy to tell whomever made this was skilled."

"Can we use it to find this person? If there's unusual potency here, then could it be some special ingredient or special equipment used?"

[Anastasia]

"It's powerful but not that powerful," Malcas says, "No, no, no," shaking his head, "Too many could make this. Far too many. It means skill but skill is common in the Planes. I can think of half a dozen people who could do this on our world, too, that I know of offhand."

Alyssa gets a sour look on her face.

"So no way to use this to find them... I wonder. Inside the guild, this formula shouldn't be too common. We don't have many who carry smoke bombs around. Maybe I could design a tracking spell to find this specific formula. It'll be fairly useless otherwise, but locally..."

[Anastasia]

"Try a wish, it may be able to manage that," Malcas suggests, "Divinations are the key, if you can make them work."
