With a cry you manage to stop the spell at the last moment. The knowledge gushed into your mind, willing, ready. Like it was designed to.

The problem is that it's an unfathomable amount of knowledge. More than you could easily manage at once, you're sure of it, some instinct saving you from calamity.

Alyssa starts breathing heavily and wipes sweat and a bit of blood off.

"Okay. There's far more than what's written on the slabs. An oceans worth. Delaize, let me try to open a gate. Do you have a Wish prepared? You might have to pull my trick with the bank. Let's see if there's anything on them that might resist it."

[Anastasia]

"Take a moment," Bastian says, "One, we just hit something new. Two, a gate won't work here, why do you think we didn't come right here? Three, I really don't want to fight a coven of ha-nagas unprepared."

Alyssa looks frustrated, "The more trips back here the more they get warning. We can return with more forces, though. Let's get moving before they show, then."

[Anastasia]

"Let's," Delaize says quietly, "If we're to force it, then make the third time the one that counts."

Bastian starts walking, "Better to do it right than fail and die," he says, "The roads are decorated by the graves of those who forget that."

"I'm sorely getting tired of these roadblocks. Let's get things organized for this. This library is one of the core things we're missing."

Alyssa is back in her office with Bastian and Delaize.

"Okay. Well that was a spectacular failure. In hindsight, I got too eager and rushed things. We'll need a proper expedition for this. Bastian, do you have anyone you trust for scouting it out? I want to know how many ha-nagas were dealing with. If not, work with Delaize and whatever diviners we have on hand. Now that we have someone who can do professional information gathering and knows what to ask for, let's get the best work out of it that we can.

Delaize, see if you can't organize a few teams to copy slabs. I know we're still working on getting people settled, but relying on Wish destabilizes our magic too much, especially if our most powerful people have to do it.

When the others get back, we'll have a real sit down to go over everything."

[Anastasia]

"I know people," Bastian agrees, "It'll be done."

Delaize is thoughtful, "I can do that. But, if I can be so direct, can we simply talk to these nagas instead?"

"I made the same suggestion, but Bastian has apparently dealt with their kind before and strongly suggested otherwise. Bastian?"
