18:11 <•Kotono> Evening, or what passes for evening in this place. Right now, Rina sits in front of the small camp you've made, Devar off and away for a few moments along with Anne. Sanda sits with her spellbook in her lap, reading. "He'd have loved this adventure," Rina breaks the silence, head resting on her knees and arms around her knees.
18:13 <Skaya> "The danger or the wild magic?"
18:15 <•Kotono> "The rewards," Rina says after a pause, a ghost of a smile on her face as Sanda looks up. "This adventure and the last have showered us in gold."
18:16 <•Kotono> "It's only sensible," Sanda says, "Considering the risks." Closing her spellbook with a soft thud, "That one day in particular was terrible."
18:18 <Skaya> "All true," Skaya agrees. "Maybe should've kept exploring the dragon ruins instead."
18:24 <•Kotono> "Maybe." Rina looks off at nothing. A lull in the conversation, until Rina speaks up again, "What do things like the Adversary offer that make someone like Brachidos agree to serve them? If he's half as good as we think he is, he could've succeeded anywhere he wanted, and without all the atrocities."
18:25 <•Kotono> "Statistically speaking, it's quite simple," SAnda says, "Half of everyone is below average intelligence, wisdom and general sense. There's a great many idiots in the world."
18:27 <Skaya> "It's a cliche, but some people really just want to watch the world burn," Skaya responds with a tired sigh. "Not the clear nutjobs like that necromancer, but malicious people." Pausing briefly to think, she adds, "A whole lot of people are idiots, like Sanda says.
18:27 <Skaya> Even setting morals aside, everyone should know that a pact with an immortal means trading a finite amount of time to an infinity of servitude at best, and yet so many jump on in and clutch that chance of more power with both hands. People are also greedy, right? No matter how much of anything, be it gold, influence, women or power they have, many would still seek out more."
18:31 <•Kotono> Rina sighs and closes her eyes. "Are you saying all the Annes and the other priests are right, that we need to sacrifice and do better, because there are evil forces at work?"
18:31 <•Kotono> With a snooty little frown, "If you're going from the premise of Anne being right, your premise is flawed."
18:33 <Skaya> "They're right," Skaya states, giving Sanda a dirty look, "though we don't have to actually listen to them. There is more than one path in life, and making the choice has meaning. Far more meaning than blindly following a path that might not be for you. As for evil forces? Yeah, there's plenty of them. But a lot of people are just sheep and quick to turn on others.
18:33 <Skaya> I like to think we make the world a better place by presenting a better example to follow."
18:41 <•Kotono> Sanda returns your look blandly, a little toss of her hair as she looks away after and a soft hmph. Meanwhile Rina goes on, "I'm thinking about the future, and what I'll do after Brachidos. Starre changed her entire life after Brachidos and got a second chance. Maybe I should do the same, so that what happened to Regis means something."
18:41 <•Kotono> "You could do worse," Anne calls as she returns, sans Devar for the moment,  "And I'd love to council you on it, but if I may, not today. I'm exhausted."
18:42 <Skaya> "Aren't you doing something important already?" Skaya asks her. "We can keep going afterwards. The sad reality is that there's always monsters to stop."
18:42 <•Kotono> "I could, but Ia lso don't ahve to listen to you," Rina retorts without any heat behind it, "Just thinking, Skaya, just thinking."
18:43 <•Kotono> Anne lets it go without commenta s she begins to set up to sleep without further remarks. On a glance at Anne, Sanda does the same, book put away.
18:43 <Skaya> They really like each other! Skaya wishes she had such a strong bond.
18:43 <•Kotono> Rina smiles a little at that, "Going to bed with your bestie, Sanda?"
18:44 <•Kotono> Meanwhile, as Devar returns? Sanda and Anne both stiffen at that, a near identical look of mortification.
<Steph> I might have made a terrible mistake

18:44 <•Kotono> Meanwhile, as Devar returns? Sanda and Anne both stiffen at that, a near identical look of mortification.
18:44 — Skaya quickly flashes Rina a thumbs up at that.
18:44 <•Kotono> "It's like a sleepover for them," Rina goes on, "All they're missing are hot drinks and pajamas."
18:46 <Skaya> "I want cocoa for mine."
18:46 <Devar> "I definitely wouldn't mind a hot drink - or a cold one after we're done with whatever this place even is." Devar says, moving to make himself as best as a bed as he can.
18:49 <•Kotono> With that, with some fond thoughts of rest and recovery, the night begins and...

18:50 <Skaya> OOC: Taking 10 for 26
18:51 <•Kotono> It's subtle, it's quiet - but you distinctly feel faint vibrations in the ground.
18:53 <Skaya> "Wake up," Skaya says, raking her mind for a match. Is it from that metal golem stomping over? Ankhegs burrowing underneath? Something else she never ran into?
18:54 <Devar> If it's Skaya waking them up then it hasn't been too long, Devar blinks himself awake and sits up. "Never a dull moment here, is there? What's up?"
18:55 <•Kotono> Anne groans and rolls up, grabbing her mace and shield.
18:55 <•Kotono> "What is it?" Rina scrambles to extract herself out of her beddings.
18:56 <Skaya> "Can't you feel it from the ground?"
18:56 <Devar> "The ankhegs again?" Devar asks, eyes sweeping the ground itself.
18:56 <•Kotono> As far as Skaya can tell, it suddenly reminds me of previous battles with ankhegs. She's dealt with this before - and indeed, suddenly there's eruptions all around the party. At least half a dozen ankhegs emerge in a loose circle around the party, no more time for talk. They're after you! OOC: Init. Teh bad guys are here.

19:00 <•Kotono> "This entire place is madness!" Sanda protests, as one of them is too quick. They're all roughly 20ft away, and one to the left side is indeed too quick. 19:02 <•Kotono> "We're surrounded, we need to break out!" Rina cries, already drawing her sword.

OOC: Bless, +1 morale attack rolls and

19:14 <•Kotono> Acid all over Sanda, who screamsa nd stumbles to a knee, half crying and half weeping. Rina's able tod odge most of it but still gets a nasty burn, "Run, run!" Rina agrees quickly, as the first ankheg has a faceful of Devar, and tries to engage him in good, old fashioned melee.

19:18 <Skaya> Sanda is truly the worst off, as Skaya had judged. She grabs her friend, unbothered by the acid on her skin as her nature can ignore small amounts of it, and then dashes past the encirclement. They've picked a square, but there are buildings not too far away, and once she's made it to the roof encircling her would be difficult, especially with Rina there along.
19:18 <Skaya> OOC: My movement is 40ft
19:20 <•Kotono> OOC: So grabbing Sanda and just running then?
19:21 <Skaya> OOC: Yes, I'm doing what I said I would! If the buildings are within range I'll go up the stairs, if not I'll run towards them.
19:22 <•Kotono> Sanda is in a bad way, but she's grabbed. The ankheg circle is loose enough that there's plenty of gaps to flee through, reaching a burned out stone building and hurrying in. It was once some sort of restaurant perhaps, but not that you have time to linger on details. On the good side, Sanda's screams lessens as you drag her inside. Rina's with you a moment later, retreating shamelessly. Sanda

19:26 <•Kotono> Meanwhile, the sixth ankheg seems to assess the situation a moment before sinking back down, no one to oppose it. It's retreating back into its burrow tunnel and out of sight. OOC: Devar and Anne, go.
19:27 <Devar> Devar will fly over to grab Anne and then fly up, out of range of their acid! OOC: If he eats an AoO from A1 thats fine, but he is flying above it for whatever that's worth.

19:34 <•Kotono> Anne's face is saved from a fate known to at least one half woman in Mellanics, prompt healing enough to avert that. "I have my darts," Rina suggests.
19:35 <•Kotono> "I can, but not well," Sanda says.
19:35 <Devar> "I can really only summon him to shoot lightning once in a while." Devar says. "But I'll do my best."
19:35 <Skaya> "I guess that's something." Skaya leaps to the ground and dashes for their ruined campsite!
19:35 <Skaya> OOC: If the roof is over 20ft I'll be boring and take the stairs
19:35 <•Kotono> "I think that's a mistake. We need to brave whatever's in the galss shop and retreat further away," Anne says, "Our enemy is unnaturally coordinated and intelligent."
19:35 <•Kotono> *glass
19:36 <•Kotono> OOC: Slow fall, right?
19:36 <Skaya> OOC: Yep
19:36 <•Kotono> Skaya slow falls down the side of the building and down. It's quiet once more, save for a few hisses and pops of acid. The tremors, if any, are awfully faint now. No immediate response to her return on down.
19:37 <Devar> Devar glances at Anne for a moment before he looks considerate about something, summoning Storm's Eye and taking to the air to follow after Skaya.
19:37 <Skaya> While keeping an ear out for them, she gathers her friends's things into her haversack.
19:38 <•Kotono> No sign of them making a second go around. Some of the bedding is badly acid damaged but everything else looks alright, as things are gathered.
19:39 — Skaya returns to the roof after this plan fails. "Let's talk earnestly about what to do next," she says tiredly.
19:39 <•Kotono> "As I said, retreat. Possibly back all the way to town and safety," Anne says, "There's no shame in admitting we need to rest and recover."
19:40 <•Kotono> Rina's still ooking down, at the edge of the roof. "At the least, we can't rest here now."
19:40 <Skaya> "There's no possible about it," Skaya points out. "If the glass golem regenerates, we have to retreat all the way back since it kept coming after us and broke through all the doors."
19:40 <•Kotono> "More concerning is the ankheg behavior. That's not normal for them. Something serious is happening to the west with them, and whatever it is, logic suggests this is spillover." Sanda remarks.
19:41 <Skaya> "There were no ankheg holes here, unlike the other world, too. So why are they suddenly here?!"
19:41 <•Kotono> "Then we retreat all the way back," Anne says, just as tiredly as Skaya.
19:41 <Skaya> "What if these things follow us?"
19:41 <•Kotono> "Either they followed us, or there's some sort of intelligence behind this," Sanda says, "That's all I can think of."
19:41 <Devar> "Wherever the west is relative to this place." Devar says. "But I agree, I think we risk the glass shop and get back to at least the Eldathian church we found."
19:42 <•Kotono> "Also, Antenora underpaid us," Sanda sniffs. "Am I the only one thinking that?"
19:43 <Skaya> "Ah well." Skaya shakes her head. "I'm just disappointed that we're so useless at everything here. That's not a reason to stay. How about we just go for broke, unseal that door after getting past the glass room, and see what's there? Then we can retreat after exploring enough."
19:46 <Devar> "I think we should rest somewhere before we unlock anything that might have another nasty creature behind it." Devar says. He glances at Anne. "We don't have much left to recover with as it is, and I'd like our chances better at full strength."
19:47 <Skaya> "The potions and the wand are there, and hopefully at least some of these monsters will try to kill each other."
19:55 <Devar> "Well, we have to make it past the glass shop anyway." Devar says. "Let's see if we even can."
19:55 <•Kotono> "Almost nothing," Anne agrees with Devar, "We can return the next day, Skaya. There's no sense in an unneeded risk."
19:56 <•Kotono> "Let's see," Rina agrees with that. OOC: Heading to the glass shop then?
19:57 <Skaya> "Let's try to dash past the glass," Skaya suggests. "If it tears the lead to pieces, then we kill it and we'll retreat after. Ah, the one braving it first should have that weapon that reduces damage?"
19:57 <Skaya> OOC: Sure
19:57 <Skaya> OOC: Devar, please lead!
19:59 <•Kotono> OOC: I assume Devar has the DR then. Okay. More.
19:59 <•Kotono> The party returns to the glass shop. The door to within is closed.
20:00 <Devar> "You all get back and away." Devar says. "I'll open it, keeping myself shielded with the door. If it looks safe, just get in and through that other door."
20:00 <•Kotono> "Good luck," Sanda scoots back.
20:02 <Devar> Devar moves to open the door, keeping it in front of him as a shield!
20:04 <•Kotono> The door opens. Perhaps thankfully, there's no sign of the glass monster within, only dark silence.
20:04 <Devar> Devar peeks out from the door, before he proceeds inside - is everything the same as it was when they passed through the last time as far as he can tell?
20:07 <•Kotono> It looks more or less the same, at least to his eyes.
20:07 <Devar> Devar will head over for the side door that leads back the way they came and will go to open it with the same precaution just to be safe!
20:09 — Skaya follows!
20:10 <•Kotono> The party follows - and this path is clear to the, the stairs up with no sign of a glassy enemy.
20:10 <•Kotono> Slowly Anne exhales, but keeps quiet.
20:11 <Devar> Devar leads them on and back up. Hopefully they can find some respite soon!
20:12 — Skaya makes sure to close the door behind them.
20:16 <•Kotono> The trip back up? Uneventful, the locked door nearby as you emerge back up once more. Nothing's here to immediately threaten you, for good or ill.
20:17 <Skaya> "Either I saw things wrong-- wait no, the door was locked, so probably not. So that leaves us with this telekinetic trash golem going to the other world and becoming a metal and treasure golem, or it's hiding. Perhaps in the second glass room."
20:18 <Devar> "I say we take a rest in the Eldathain church, investigate this door first tomorrow, then investigate the fire again with everyone." Devar says. "I still agree with Skaya that trying to make our way back to the city may cause more problems than it fixes somehow or another."
20:19 <•Kotono> "As long as we rest, we have little left," Anne says, "Or at least I do."
20:19 <Skaya> "This really might be safer than the church," Skaya voices. "That church was down in one of the towns. Let's just try resting here."
20:20 <Devar> "Oh, sure, that's fine, I only mentioned it since I got a sense of safety there, but you're right that anything could happen." Devar says. "It's better than dirt, at least."
20:21 <Skaya> "I'll keep watch again, I guess," Skaya says, retrieving their things from her haversack.
20:22 <•Kotono> With that, the party settles into rest and recover...OOC: More.

20:23 Skaya set the topic: Skaya: 42/42 Devar 57/57 Anne 60/60 Sanda 39/39 Rina 52/52
20:24 <•Kotono> OOC: Sanda's resist because of spell slot limitations, I think. Anne might do both, and option them over to healing with spontaneous healing if necessary.
20:24 <Skaya> "So our new plan is to explore everything sealed on this level first, before considering heading down again here or elsewhere?" Skaya proposes once they actually make it through a day in this horrible place.
20:25 <Devar> "Yes. Here -" OOC: refreshing Mage Armor on both himself and Skaya, will last them both 10 hours.
20:27 — Skaya heads over to the chained door to examine it. Is there a lock that fits one of the keys she took off the necromancer?
20:29 <•Kotono> With the party prepared and healed up, Skaya goes toe xamine the lock. You check and it looks like it fits the steel key.

20:31 Skaya set the topic: Skaya: 7+42/42 (5 images) Devar 57/57 Anne 60/60 Sanda 39/39 Rina 52/52
20:31 <•Kotono> "Ready," Rina calls.
20:31 <•Kotono> "I am," Anne seconds.
20:31 <•Kotono> "That makes all of us," Sanda thirds.
20:32 — Skaya uses the key!
20:34 <•Kotono> The lock is undone, the door opened. Ahead is a hallway, wide and long. On the far end is another door, and to the right is a door about halfway. The air is notably colder in here, enough to bring shivers to all of you without cold resistance.
20:34 — Skaya takes a deep breath and keeps it in, because she is absolutely done with all the poisons here. And then, she leads the way inside.
20:35 <Devar> "First a locked lightning cloud, a fire elemental mountain, and now something cold...?" Devar murmurs. "Is this place some meetingplace for all of the different elemental planes?"
20:35 <•Kotono> Quiet nods as you go in. It's chilly, an autumn morning sort of chilly. Not cold, but certainly different than summer. There's the door to the right halfway. No locks on it or anything you can see, and if you go further you can reach the far door.
20:35 — Skaya opens the door to the right.
20:36 <•Kotono> "You know, that makes sense, doesn't it?" Sanda remarks, "I think there's a cold or ice plane, but I forget if it's a para or an um...quasi? Is that the name?" Sanda hms, "It's been awhile since I read the Codex Planacar."
20:36 <•Kotono> The door opens. The air here is downright cold, and the walls have patches of ice. This is a room with a hole int he ground and a ladder leading deeper in. A small room, and opposite you is another door going further in.
20:37 <•Kotono> "It's still a nice break from the summer heat," Rina says despite her shivers.
20:38 <Skaya> "Can someone use cold resist on me and I'll quickly check the place for anything interesting?" Skaya asks, deciding to give on holding her breath.
20:40 <•Kotono> Sanda comes forward and chants, a touch to your shoulder. OOC: Resist Energy, CL 5, resistance 10 to cold for 50 minutes.
20:41 <Skaya> "Thanks, Sandy!" Skaya chirps, and then skips into the room. Despite the way she seems, she keeps on checking for traps and dangers as she makes her way to the door leading further in and examines it as well. If it's safe, she'll open it!
20:44 <•Kotono> OOC: Perceptiont hen.
20:45 <Skaya> OOC: 10 for 26
20:45 <•Kotono> No sign of traps, just a chilly door. It's not locked and thus it's opened. A copy of this room, save for it mostly being covered in ice, save for the hole going down, though the ladder is icy. Another door on the opposite side offers a path further in. It's also even colder here, but at least you're protected.
20:45 — Skaya tries the door leading further in.
20:46 <•Kotono> It's not locked, but it feels jammed, slow to move int he cold. You'd likely have to force it.
20:48 <Skaya> She'd been in that situation before! She'll push it opened, then some monster comes out and tries to kill her. With a sigh, Skaya tries it anyway.
20:48 <Skaya> roll 1d20+3+6 str
20:48 <Kobot> Skaya rolled 1d20+3+6 str --> [ 1d20=9 ]{18}
20:53 <•Kotono> The door gives way. Intensely bitter cold gushes out as you see another copy of this room, completely iced over, even the hole with a ladder leading further completely clogged with ice. The one exception is the door further in, which is completely free of ice.
20:53 <Skaya> Well then! No monster so far! Skaya proceeds towards the other door, checks it for dangers, and then opens it!
20:54 <Devar> "I'm definitely starting to think there's more to my idea this is some elemental meeting point." Devar says as he watches Skaya go into progressively colder rooms from his much safer vantage point.
20:55 <•Kotono> "There might be," Anne agrees, "But I still have so many questions."
20:56 <•Kotono> The door opens. Ahead is not a repetition, but a large open space. A city frozen over in an ice age, the cold strong enough that the others besides Skaya can feel it even from here. The ceiling can't be seen, instead a foggy haze of clouds that sprinkle snowflakes down. The city is mostly buried in ice, an entire winterscape dusted with snow. However, a creature guards the path in. A man-like
20:56 <•Kotono> creature of ice, as large as the fire elementals you saw guarding the mountain. This one peers down at Skaya intensely.
20:57 <Skaya> "Hello," the six Skayas greet him in eerie sync. "Are you willing to have a brief conversation with me?"
20:58 <•Kotono> The creature steps forward and kneels down, and uses two frozen fingers to gently pat Skaya's head. "Hello, little human," its ays in a soft, coaxing voice. "There there, don't run away. You're a cute one, aren't you? Brave too, not to run away from me."
20:59 <•Kotono> Despite her shivers, Rina peers ahead to see this. Sheglances to the others, "Did I just see that?"
20:59 <Skaya> "I'm possibly a bit stupid and definitely bad at risk assessment," Skaya admits. "Can you please explain what happened here? This city exists in many places at the same time, and sometimes they compress and reform."
21:00 <Devar> Devar squints since he can't really see that far down. "Uh... I think so...?" Devar murmurs. "But it isn't attacking Skaya, so that's a good sign."
21:00 <•Kotono> Cold spreads throughout you at the touch, only your magic likely preventing serious harm. "I don't know myself, but aren't you adorable?" A single finger pats your stomach a few times, "Ice saw fit to have me guard this place, so I guard this place."
21:02 <Skaya> She's clearly a terrible wizard, her defensive spells are made for fighting human-like enemies! "Guard..." Skaya echoes him. "So no one could come in? If I wanted to go there, or bring my friends, you'd be forced to fight?"
21:04 <•Kotono> "Oh no, I'm here to keep out fire and fire aspected creatures," With a warm smile, "I can even help all of you with the cold, so you can explore here without freezing." An indulgent smile at your head is patted, "Oh, I've always wanted my own human as a pet, and you even know magic. Would you want to stay here with me?"
21:05 <•Kotono> "Does its ee Skaya as a stray cat?" Anne murmurs, a hand to her mouth.
21:06 <Skaya> "I am not currently looking for an owner, but I would appreciate more permanent help with the cold. Would you mind terribly?"
21:06 <•Kotono> "Ice only gave me the authority to protect against the ambient cold here, not cold from creatures or the blue waters," the elemental says, "But here." A tap and suddenly you aren't cold anymore.
21:07 <Skaya> "Thank you! I'm going to call the others over now, and if some of them happen to be accidentally fire aspected just tell me and they won't try to enter, alright?"
21:08 <•Kotono> "Of course," The elemental agrees, without a lick of hostility.
21:08 — Skaya smiles at the elemental and then returns. "Want to come over in winter clothing and put up with the cold until we get there, or use magic?"
21:09 <•Kotono> "I can shiver a moment or three," Anne shakes her head, "No sense wasting magic on it."
21:09 — Skaya leads the way back to the elemental with a nod.
21:10 <Devar> Devar will come along, rather curious if his experience with the fire will cause a problem here or not as well
21:13 <•Kotono> It gets more and more intensely cold as you reach him, starting to numb all of you near instantly. Anne and Sanda get pats, which immediately cease their shiverings. However, Rina and Devar get looks, "Oh no!" A sad gasp, "Both of you are stained with fire. Don't worry, I'll be happy to fix it for you, Ice gave me the authority to do that."
21:16 <Devar> "Oh, no, we're all right, really." Devar says with a smile. "Are you still able to protect us, or are we too stained for that?"
21:16 <Skaya> "I think this means you'll have to stay outside."
21:17 <•Kotono> Before Rina can say anything, she gets a tap and stops shivering. "Ah?" Rina asks, an incoherent murmur of surprise. OOC: Loot post.
21:17 <•Kotono> "Oh no, I insist or I'll have to do something," The ice elemental says, just a hint of polite firmness in its voice. "Fire's bad."
21:21 <Devar> Devar takes a step back towards the door they entered from. "It sounds like I'll be waiting here for all of you." He says. "I have no idea what sort of interaction this would have."
21:22 <•Kotono> The elemental takes a step forward, "Bad," he scolds, "Don't make me have to catch you, human. This is for your own good." Rina and Anne scurry out of the way of it, as does Sanda, if out of simple necessity due to size.
21:23 <Skaya> "This might actually be good for you?" Skaya voices.
21:26 <Devar> "How do you figure that?!" Devar shouts. "But... fine, fine." He steps forward and stops moving as he lets out a sigh.
21:26 <•Kotono> "Good human," You get a tap on your shoulder, as the cold ceases to bother you. OOC: More, see PM in a sec.
21:26 <Skaya> "Because of fairness. How could Ice show itself to be worse than Fire?"
21:32 <•Kotono> Standing up after that, the elemental says, "Now be careful. Ice gave me powers, but I know at least Ice, Ice and Ice are out there, and none of them are friendly, and most of what's here isn't the sharpest glacier there is."
21:32 <•Kotono> Sanda carefully studies Devar, Anne with holy symbol in hand just in case. "Are you well, Devar?" Anne asks.
21:32 <Skaya> "If we're allowed to go in, can we take all the nice magical stuff and treasures here?" Skaya asks the elemental. "And if so, can you please tell us where to go?"
21:33 <Devar> Devar fidgets somewhat, shaking his head. "I'm fine. It's... well, strange." He admits. "Also, are there any large mountains with glowing ice at the top of them, or anything?"
21:34 <•Kotono> "If you can find it, you can take it. Ice didn't tell me anything about it, so I don't care," The elemental declares, and with as weep of an enormous hand, "I wasn't told about a mountain, but I do know there's something special in the blue waters.":
21:35 <Skaya> "I vote for exploring the blue waters!"
21:35 <•Kotono> "If we can find them," Anne agrees, "Thank you."
21:35 <•Kotono> "Excuse me," Sanda steps forward, "If you don't mind a pointed question, you're unusually talkative and insightful for one of your kind."
21:36 <•Kotono> "Aren't you a curious little human?" The elemental laughs and kneels again, patting Sanda's head with a single finger. Ice forms in her hair as she gets an answer, "I was once a much bigger elemental, but the biggest Ice on Ice doesn't like me. He took a lot of my ice because of that."
21:37 <Skaya> "That's a shame," Skaya says genuinely.
21:37 <•Kotono> Sanda shakes her head back an forth, little shards of ice flying. "The biggest Ice on Ice? Do you mean the Para-Elemental Plane of uh...Cold? Or is it Ice?"
21:39 <•Kotono> "Cold, Ice. The real name doesn't work in your tongue, and you have so few words for Ice!" A tsk-tsk that's like a clang of ice on ice, "I think some of your kind call him Cryonax? But that was a long time ago, and I hear there's another big Ice that wants to fight him these days."
21:39 <Devar> "Do you have any idea how long you've been here in, er... mortal years?" Devar asks.
21:40 <•Kotono> "Not even an ice age, so not long. But I think there's lots and lots of those years of yours in an ice age." The elemental counts on its fingers, "Oh, it might be a year or less, or a dozen. Small chips of ice, it's all the same when it's less than an ice age."
21:41 <•Kotono> Sanda takes out her book and starts to write, but her quill doesn't work. With a frown she puts it away, "And how many of those ice ages was it that you were shrunken down?"
21:42 <•Kotono> "Over a thousand," Is the answer, "At least a thousand ice ages, and I think it was a thousand at least a hundred more ice ages ago," Some consideration, "A lot of time, even for Ice."
21:44 <Devar> "Before us, had anyone come through here?" Devar asks. "Uh... recently?"
21:45 <•Kotono> "Oh yes. Several burrowing creatures who spat acid at me. I threw them out of sight, I doubt they survived it. A strange human who had the cutest, most curious ideas, but he had those nasty fleshless humans with him. Oh, I knew one of the glowy bird people on Ice before, that protect the humans that get lost there. He taught me how bad the undead are, particularly to humans. I scared him off,
21:45 <•Kotono> but he was fast running away."
21:46 <Skaya> "He locked the door with a chain," Skaya pipes up helpfully at that.
21:47 <•Kotono> "Isn't that adorable?" A chilly laugh, "You humans and your doors, locks and chains. I could watch them all day."
21:47 <•Kotono> "I
21:47 <Skaya> "Maybe the ankhegs came from an iteration of the city that's aligned with earth or acid?" Skaya muses.
21:48 <•Kotono> "It might be so," Anne remarks, "Or other stray ones. Those strange wyrms that are driving them in this general direction. Oh, I hope Mellanics hasn't had any worse problems with them."
21:48 <Devar> "We did run into that extremely muddy area the very first stairway that went down." Devar says. "We also have no idea how this place works underground, so it's very possible they are moving from one 'version' to the other that way."
21:49 <•Kotono> "Well, if you see them, tell them to go away. They're ugly, crawly things. I want to freeze them all," The elemental complains.
21:50 <Skaya> "The telekinetic golems are even worse! They can't be permanently destroyed!"
21:50 <•Kotono> "That's why you freeze them. Make them so cold they can't move," The elemental says, "If you have a few of your years, I'd be happy to teach you some magic that could do it."
21:51 <•Kotono> Sanda perks up anew, "You can cast magic?"
21:51 <•Kotono> "Ice magic. I didn't forget even after I got most of my ice stolen from me, but it's much weaker now," Is the answer.
21:52 <Devar> "It probably knows spells most people don't know the world's forgotten." Devar says. "We definitely would love to learn, but I'm not sure we have that much time at the moment."
21:55 <•Kotono> "Another time," Sanda agrees, "I don't have any more immediate questions. Do any of you?"
21:55 <•Kotono> Rina shakes her head, mildly bemused if anything.
21:56 <Devar> "Oh, how long will your protection last here? We might be here for a while." Devar says.
21:59 <•Kotono> "For this area? A long time but it only works here," Is the answer, "Ice was clear about that."
22:00 <Devar> Devar nods. "Hopefully we're protected against whatever lives here." he says with a nod to Skaya.
22:01 <•Kotono> OOC: If that's all, we'll cover going into the frozen city...next time!
<Steph> I might have made a terrible mistake

Corwin

19:00 <•Kotono> The frozen city lies ahead. Buried and frozen over, the ceiling hidden by a foggy haze of clouds. A scattering sprinkle of snowflakes fall, coating the ice in new fallen snow. Looking ahead, yo usee the canals are full but frozen, frigid roadways ahead. Most of the buildings are covered in ice but not all. The party's breath mists out in front of them, the chill held at bay by the ice elemental's
19:00 <•Kotono> protection.
19:03 <Devar> "Hopefully we can find something resembling an answer to what all of this is." Devar says as he walks across the frozen ground. "If you see anything you want me to fly to, just shout."
19:04 <•Kotono> "It would be agreeable,"Anne comments as she carefully walks ahead, "We'd best be careful, the terrain here is poor as is the footing."
19:05 <Skaya> "Let's check the places we've already been to," Skaya decides. "That church, then the tower that attracted your spear, then the glass monster room. We'll see if each iteration of this place has its own focuses or not."
19:05 — Devar nods.
19:07 <Skaya> "Devar, can you fly straight up and see if any familiar landmarks are near us?"
19:08 <•Kotono> "It would help," Rina says, moving carefully. OOC: Quick important note. Movement here is tricky. Squares here count as difficult terrain and cost 10ft of movement for every 5ft of movement you take, essentially halving your movement speeds unless you have something to counter. You can try to move fast to compensate, but it will require acrobatics checks to avoid a tumble. Flying obviously
19:08 <•Kotono> negates all of that for Devar.
19:09 •Kotono set the topic: Skaya: 7+42/42 (5 images) Devar 57/57 Anne 60/60 Sanda 39/39 Rina 52/52  Note: Currently in difficult terrain
19:09 <Devar> "Sure." Devar says, taking off to get as good a view as he can - he's curious if the layout of the city is the 'same' just from a different starting point, but he looks around for any familiar landmarks!
19:13 <•Kotono> Devar flies up, to just below the clouds. It's hard to tell here, but it does look very similar. He thinks he can pick out where the glass shop would be and the cathedral as well. The tower with Devar's new spear isn't there, but instead a deep lake of blue sits. Likewise, ahead, where the mountain was before, sits another lake of deep blue water, full of ice floes that float. On them are
19:13 <•Kotono> various buildings and ruins, often connected by icy rocks and paths, and even occasionally elevated, crumbling paths between two floes.
19:15 <Devar> He flies back down! "So - in place of the tower and the mountains are those 'deep blues' that were mentioned, they look like lakes at a glance. I think I saw where the shop and the cathedral would be in this version, though."
19:16 <Skaya> "Let's go to the nearest of the glass storage room and the cathedral," Skaya proposes. "We were warned that our protections won't hold for the deep blues, so let's explore the safer parts first."
19:17 <•Kotono> "Makes sense," Rina says as you all begint o go carefully, on slippery and treacherous terrain, that...OOC: More.

19:18 <•Kotono> The snow falls as you walk through strange but familiar ruins. As you go, "As a child, I liked to pretend that the shady basement we had was secretly where Old Woman Winter hid during the summer, and if I went down there, it would be a break from the summer heat."
19:19 <•Kotono> Rina says that and the others listen, before, "Feeling nostalgic?" Anne asks, "I hardly mind a break from the heat, even if it doesn't bother me anymore."
19:19 <•Kotono> "Not all of us can command the weather to leave them be," Rina snarks back.
19:20 <Skaya> "It's all new to me, so I'm just enjoying the experiences. In between running and fighting for my life."
19:20 <•Kotono> "This isn't her doing, Auril is rarely so kind," Anne remarks, "That and the fighting for our lives."
19:20 <Devar> "I definitely prefer the cold to heat myself." Devar says. "But too much of either and you're in trouble."
19:27 <•Kotono> Chatter as you go along -a nd soon reach the glass sh op. It's frozen over here, save for the door, which is uncovered and closed.

19:29 <•Kotono> Nope, frozen jammed. It's gonnat ake some oompht o open.
19:30 — Skaya has oomph! But she is also capable of learning. Doors have hinges and those can be removed.
19:30 <•Kotono> With some device disablin' you work that and remove the hinges to the door. Cold work though, but nothing comes to interrupt.
19:31 — Skaya tries to slide the door out of the frame. This time, she has some force to use!
19:35 <•Kotono> This works, the door is removed. Past it is an empty shop. It was once a shop perhaps, but no good survive, unless you're in the market for ice. A frozen over door to the back is here, as well as one to the side - in the asme position as the door that would lead yo uto the stairs up from the glass shop. That one's frozen over, too.
19:35 <•Kotono> Sanda peers in, "We'll need to do a bit of work to go further," sher emarks, "But that may be easier, especially if we can do it quietly."
19:36 <•Kotono> "It might be," Anne side eyes Sanda, "Unusually perceptive of you."
19:36 <•Kotono> "Logically speaking, flying metal clouds of death inspire a great deal of caution," Sanda retorts.
19:36 <Skaya> "We might be able to learn more about other iterations from this one, and vice versa," Skaya muses. "If there's some hidden room with an off switch for the unkillable murder golem, might as well find it here where no golems are around."
19:37 — Skaya decides to clear out the ice covering the door leading up.
19:38 <•Kotono> Okay, and how are you going to remove the ice, precisely?
19:39 <Skaya> OOC: If it's a relatively thin layer of ice, I'll try chipping at it. I have ki strike which is good for dr/magic, and various sharp weapons. Devar has a proper magical weapon.
19:39 <•Kotono> The ice is thick, several inches of it.
19:40 — Skaya tries the magic-imbued ki strike just in case, to estimate how quickly this might go.
19:41 <•Kotono>  OOC: Roll damage real quick just to give me an idea?
19:42 <Skaya> roll 1d8+3+5
19:42 <Kobot> Skaya rolled 1d8+3+5 --> [ 1d8=8 ]{16}
19:45 <•Kotono> WHAM! WHAM! WHAM! WHAM! The ice is strong, you make headway but it's not gonna be quick. It's also gonna be loud.
19:47 <Skaya> "So this will draw enemies to us, most likely. Want to invite them over rather than look for them?" Skaya proposes. "I think I can get through the ice eventually without relying on fire or acid."
19:49 <•Kotono> "I'd prefer to avoid battles altogether, but I'm curious as to what lies beyond them as well." Anne admits.
19:49 <•Kotono> Rina stays back, hand on the wallt o brace herself, "In that case, Skaya and Anne could work together. Anne's mace should help speed it up."
19:50 <Skaya> "Works for me! Let's go, Anne! And Devar, maybe keep an eye from the air to see who would come after us?"
19:51 <Devar> "Sure/"
19:51 <Devar> "Sure." Devar agrees, heading out to fly up to look around while they do that!
19:55 <•Kotono> OOC: Perception Devar first of all.
19:58 <Devar> roll 1d20+8
19:58 <Kobot> Devar rolled 1d20+8 --> [ 1d20=12 ]{20}

20:02 <Kobot> Kotono rolled 1d100+25 subtable --> [ 1d100=37 ]{62}
20:03 <•Kotono> Some effort gets the party about halfway through. However, that's when Devar sees something coming. A blur of snowflakes forming something as it goes, swiftly flying in the direction of the glass shop.
20:03 <Devar> "We got something!" Devar shouts down at the shop. "Not sure if it's the whirling nonsense, but it's something!"
20:04 — Skaya stops immediately and gets out into the open to look at their attacker!
20:05 <Skaya> OOC: How long has it been since we got here?
20:08 <•Kotono> OOC: Ten minutes. More.
20:09 <•Kotono> The party hurries out with Skaya. At good speed and carefully, as before you the whirl swirls and gathers in to theshape of a blue skinned woman, wearing a loose robe of woven snow. Her hair is long and black, cascading down tot he ground in waves. She regardless all of the party silently, eyes narrowed.
20:10 <Skaya> "Hello," Skaya greets her politely. "We've been allowed to visit this city. This is not your shop, is it?"
20:12 <Devar> Devar comes down from the sky, hanging about 20 ft above the group!
20:12 <•Kotono> Quietly, barely a whisper asyour friends prepare themselves, "You shouldn't be here. Warm creatures die in the cold."
20:13 <Skaya> "Apparently, we were granted the boon of Ice, thus we're here," Skaya explains.
20:15 <•Kotono> Silence greets you, long enough so that Sanda speaks up, "So we're here. It's only logical to want to explore and learn more here."
20:15 <Skaya> "Right now, we're trying to see what's behind that frozen door inside," Skaya adds, pointing back into the room.
20:16 <•Kotono> A whisper-flicker of the wind, snow falling. A gesture and the ice on the walls and doors inside the glass shop recede. "You will die. Go lower," The creature whispers, "Deeper. The Maelstrom is safer for you creatures."
20:17 <Skaya> "How do we go lower?" Skaya asks curiously. "Where is the Maelstrom? And what is it?"
20:21 <•Kotono> "Lower," A whisper of wind again, "The Maelstrom is the heart of everything in this place. There you may not die, perhaps."
20:22 <•Kotono> "I'd assumed the source of this was lower at this point," Anne murmurs, keeping her voice down. "Though Id islike traveling anywhere that survival is only a perhaps."
20:24 <Devar> "Do you know what this place is?" Devar asks. "We've come from 'other' versions of it."
20:27 <•Kotono> "I do not understand, but I have learned while Ice, Ice and Ice have rampaged." The woman says, starting to crumble into snowflakes, "Reptition and distortion, all spreading out from the Maelstrom. Illusion and reality, a prism's rainbow in distortion. I am not as I was when I came here, I too have been distorted."
20:27 <•Kotono> Sanda blinks at that, "Distorted? Ooooh, like changed." She snaps her fingers, "Like if you walk into a fire or get touched by an ice elemental?"
20:28 <•Kotono> The word fire gets a loud hiss from the woman, who leaps back like a startled cat. "Your words are vile!"
20:30 <•Kotono> "Peace, I think I understand," Anne speaks up here, giving Sadna a long, exasperated look.
20:30 <Devar> "We mean no offense." Devar says. "Do you know anything about the 'deep blue' lakes?"
20:31 <•Kotono> "Beware Ice there, for it hunts. It was where I was distorted," The creature answers, "Before I was only air, now I am snow, ice and cold. I am the blizzard."
20:32 <Skaya> "Can you guide us to the Maelstrom?"
20:34 <•Kotono> "For a price. Slay one of Ice, Ice or Ice. Submerge yourself in the distortion." The woman answers.
20:35 <Skaya> "If we keep trying to open that door, will one of the Ices come?"
20:37 <•Kotono> "Perhaps. They roam and often hide themselves, or skulk." Is the answer, "Or investigate the far distortion."
20:38 <Skaya> "Where is the far distortion, then? We could come to them, and if they have irreconcilable differences with us, we can resolve them."
20:41 <•Kotono> "Beyond the deep blue lake," Is the answer."Search there if you wish."
20:42 <Skaya> "Thanks," Skaya says, before glancing at Anne to start with her. "What's your preference? Stick with the door, dive into the deep blue distortion of death and Ice, do something else?"
20:45 <•Kotono> "We may as well investigate the distortionw hilew e're here," Anne says, after some thought. "But I fear we'll do it all regardless, and that informs it."
20:46 <•Kotono> "I'm curious about this Maelstrom," Sanda sniffs, "Let's go find a path to it."
20:46 <•Kotono> "We were on the doors, we do the doors first," Rina disagrees, "Then we work from there."
20:46 <Skaya> "Right. Rina?"
20:46 <Skaya> There's only one left, and Skaya turns towards Devar expectantly!
20:49 <Devar> "I say at least see where the doors go." Devar says. "We are already here and they were helpfully removed of all the ice for us."
20:49 <Skaya> "Alright, then. I'll support that as well, so we have a majority for trying to get the door open," Skaya says with a nod. "If that's not enough to bring over an Ice that's incompatible with us, we'll see about investigating more of this world."
20:54 <Devar> Devar nods and will take back to the sky just in case while they work out the doors.
20:59 <•Kotono> The woman disperses and is gone, as both doors are checked. Neither is locked, you can open either at leisure.
21:00 — Skaya opens the one leading up. It should be lethal! So Devar will step in first once it's open, he's the one most protected against cold.

21:02 <•Kotono> The door to the side is open. Here there are indeed stairs, but stairs that go down instead of up. They're also quite icy and treacherous looking.
21:03 <Skaya> "Isn't going down supposed to be safe?"
21:04 <Devar> "Supposedly." Devar says. OOC: Is there any room to just fly down instead of walking?
21:06 <•Kotono> OOC: Not really, it's a little too compact to spread your wings.
21:07 <Devar> "I can't really get down this any better than the rest of you, so if I take a tumble just be careful." Devar says, going down as slowly as he can and trying to keep his hands on the wall for balance.
21:07 <Skaya> "No worries, I'll follow right after you!"
21:12 <•Kotono> OOC: Acrobatics for balance, Devar.

21:15 — Skaya descends the staircase after Devar! It sounded painful!

21:16 <•Kotono> Skaya is able to make it down safely. At the bottom the ice begins to recede, and here sits a single door leading ahead.
21:17 <Skaya> "Still alive?" Skaya asks, reaching down to help Devar up.

21:18 <•Kotono> Meanwhile Rina tries the stairs - and with a cry and a curse, slips and comes tumbling down, threatening to bowl right into Devar and Skaya! OOC: Ref saves you two, -2 penalty due to slippery ground.

21:19 <•Kotono> Skaya managest o skitter aside, but Devar's barely too slow. It's really only the ground that gets him, enough to let Rina crash into him. The two of you end up in a heap together, Rina groaning loudly. From above you hear Sanda call, "You two alright down there?"
21:19 <Skaya> "Anne and Sanda, maybe stay upstairs for now?" Skaya calls over, before helping Rina and Devar up. Again!
21:20 <•Kotono> Rina gets up, visibly banged upf rom that. Someone's going to have bruises, you'd guess. She groans and stumbles away from the stairs, one hand on the wall to brace herself.
21:21 <•Kotono> "I'll go down, carefully," Anne calls, "I'd rather not be up here if you need me down there."

21:24 <Skaya> "I could've carried you down," Skaya tells Anne patiently. "Was it so hard to ask for help?"
21:25 <•Kotono> Wiping blood away from her nose, "How many times have I needed to rush to heal one or all of you? But in all honesty, I started before considering it, no sense having you risk going back up and down again."
21:25 <Skaya> "I'm still going up, there's zero chance I'm leaving Sanda alone there," Skaya says with a sigh and climbs up. She'll secure her rope at the top and maybe it'll be enough for Rina to use, at least.
21:26 <Skaya> OOC: I'll take 10 for 26 to go up and then to bring Sanda down
21:26 <•Kotono> Getting Sanda down here goes without incident, the party now all down here. A bit worse for wear, but alive and intact.
21:26 — Skaya opens the door! If it's not trapped!
21:27 <Devar> "It's a good lesson for me to not get too overconfident about flying everywhere." Devar says. "Here, hold still everyone." Devar says as he channels divine energy to heal everyone twice.

21:30 <Skaya> OOC: 10 for 26
21:32 <•Kotono> The door isn't trapped or locked. It opens up to reveal the city once more. A door that opens out to Dareslan proper, but that is completely empty of people. The sky is a dull green-gray, the silence oppressive.  This door exits out from the access point you entered to begin your trek underground.
21:32 <Skaya> "Oh bullshit!"
21:35 <•Kotono> "Is this the Maelstrom or another reptition?" Anne steps out, looking around.
21:35 <•Kotono> *repetition
21:35 <•Kotono> "I don't see anything in the sky," Sanda looks up, "And I've never seen the sky that color before."

21:36 <•Kotono> A tearing sound. Not fara way, perhaps 40ft down th street, a gap in reality opens. For a moment you see untamed forests through it, before it clsoes.
21:36 <•Kotono> *closes
21:37 <Devar> "That sound did not give me a lot of hope that this is safe." Devar says with a frown.
21:38 <Skaya> "It'll be fine!"

21:49 <•Kotono> A small gasp, "You really could?" she says aloud, suddenly desperate. "I-Where I was faster?"
21:49 <•Kotono> Anne scowls at this and steps fowrard, "RINA!" she says, voice sharp as a whip.
21:50 — Skaya grabs Rina's hand! "Hey, hey! Are you talking to invisible people?"

21:56 <Skaya> "It'd have to be a fake world with a fake Regis," Skaya tells her sadly.

19:13 <•Kotono> The trip to the Temple of Mystra is uneventful. However, when you reach there, yo ufind there is a change. The temple is instead a tower, one that rises high into the sky, and that you didn't spy approaching it. How could you have missed it, since it rises at least a dozen stories up.
19:14 <Devar> "Uh..." Devar starts, looking up at it. "It's not just me that's confused how this is here, right?"
19:14 <•Kotono> "It's not just you," Rina says, staring up at it. "I swear I didn't see this until now."
19:14 <•Kotono> "That's not possible," Sanda murmurs, "Towers don't just appear!"
19:15 <Devar> "Well, the good news is we all see it." Devar says. "So it means it's probably not an illusion?"
19:15 <Skaya> "That is, in fact, possible if there was an illusion covering it until now."
19:16 <•Kotono> "That's possible," Anne remarks as she holds her holy symbol, "Nothing of this fills me with anything but dread."
19:16 <Devar> "Shall we see what's inside?" Devar asks.
19:17 <Skaya> "We shall," Skaya agrees, examining the ways to enter the tower.
19:17 <•Kotono> There's but one doorway, a solid door of rusty iron. No windows that you see.
19:18 — Skaya checks it for traps, and then tries to open it if it looks safe!
19:18 <Skaya> OOC: Perception 10 for 26
19:19 <•Kotono> No traps. The door, however, is most firmly locked.
19:19 — Skaya has the best lockpicks!

19:20 <•Kotono> It's hard, really hard, but eventually Skaya is able to jimmy the lock open. Barely.
19:21 <Skaya> "It's times like this that I'm happy I invested time and effort into studying locks," Skaya says cheerfully, grinning at Sanda. "How far we've come from when we struggled with a locked box, right?"
19:23 <•Kotono> Sanda smiles back, "And we can keep going forward, too," she says, "Since I don't trust this strange sky at all.
19:23 <•Kotono> "
19:23 <•Kotono> "Nor do I," Anne agrees, "Please, let's enter."
19:23 — Skaya opens the door and steps inside.
19:24 <•Kotono> The door opens. The party stands in front of the tower. The streets are overgrown with weeds and cracked in many places. The buildings are crumbling. The sky is a purple-black that is starless and lightless, only your light sources stopping total darkness. Before you a door of solid iron awaits, closed, the only visible entrance into the tower.
19:25 <Devar> "Uh..." Devar says, looking forward as well as back through the door they just came through.
19:25 <•Kotono> "Oh." Sanda says, flatly.

19:26 <Skaya> OOC: Disable device, as before
19:27 <•Kotono> IT takes some effort, but this door is unlocked as well.
19:28 — Skaya opens it and steps through.
19:31 <•Kotono> It is dark. The sky is black, the city is broken and in ruins. The streets are littered with the dead and the re-dead - various familiar skeletons and zombies lie about. Slain wyverns and riders can be seen as well, along with dead ankhegs and at the edge of your light, the head of another of the strange wyrms you battled before. The tower is half collapsed, but the doorway and iron door are
19:31 <•Kotono> intact.
19:32 <•Kotono> Anne takes a breath before, "Keep going. It is always darkest before the dawn, but we do not stop hoping for the dawn."
19:32 <Devar> "I don't understand each of these different realities." Devar says. "Is this even possible, or is it just some incredibly powerful illusion putting all of this together?"
19:33 <•Kotono> "I suspect an illusion," Sanda says, "I'm fairly certain the planes don't work like this."
19:33 — Skaya keeps on working on the new lock, confident that her friends will protect her if needed.
19:33 <Skaya> roll 1d20+14 DD
19:33 <Kobot> Skaya rolled 1d20+14 DD --> [ 1d20=4 ]{18}
19:34 <•Kotono> "More than that, it's derivitive. Things we've seen or that have been in this strange place," Anne goes and kneels next to a dead ankheg, "It's producing what it's seen, not allt hat is. Yet none of the elementals from above, strange. Is Dareslan so doomed?"
19:34 <Skaya> OOC: I'll essentially be taking 20 here, I think
19:34 <•Kotono> No good, the lock is tough. As Skaya keeps at it, Sanda perks up, "Oh! See that therE? Do you think there's more of that rainbow blood in that dead wyrm there?"
19:35 <Devar> "Is it just reacting to us?" Devar asks. "Well, if it's an illusion, drinking it wouldn't do us any good."
19:35 <•Kotono> "I think it may be," Anne agrees, a few checks of the ankheg. "As if it wants to scare us away with disaster."
19:36 <•Kotono> "It may be worth checking," Sanda insists, as with a click, Skaya gets the lock to pop.
19:36 <Devar> "I have some empty potion bottles if you want me to collect some." Devar offers.
19:37 <•Kotono> "At worst, we have empty potion bottles after this," Sanda concurs, "Please do, I like the odds of this, even if it fails, we lose nothing."
19:37 — Skaya opens the door and pauses. "Want to get some before we go? Then do it."
19:38 <Devar> Devar will go over to see if he can even get any blood out of the thing! If so, he'll fill up some potion bottles with it! OOC: Let's say 3 if possible.
19:41 <•Kotono> The beast is opened up - but there's no blood in it, only a congealed, stone like substance instead.
19:42 <Devar> Devar will take a few handfuls of the substance for analysis, wrap it up and put it away. "All done, let's go."
19:44 — Skaya steps past the opened door
19:44 <•Kotono> Darkness. No light. Only darkvision allows Skaya and Devar to see, as your allies cry out in alarm. Ruined streets that trail off into nothing. A sky that's dark and empty. Buildings that crumble into void. The last few remnants of a tower, doorway and door still intact.
19:45 <Skaya> "I think this is the last door," Skaya says, trying to open it as well.
19:45 <Skaya> roll 1d20+14
19:45 <Kobot> Skaya rolled 1d20+14 --> [ 1d20=12 ]{26}
19:46 <Skaya> OOC: More taking 20 if this isn't enough
19:46 <•Kotono> "You're there, Skaya?" Rina calls, "I can't see anything."
19:46 <•Kotono> "I'm here too," Anne pipes up, carefully feeling around her with her hands.
19:46 <Devar> "We're still all here." Devar says, checking to make sure that is in fact true. "Here, I'll get you all. Hold still." Devar will go to each to put their hands together in a line so everyone is holding someone else's hand and they can move together.
19:46 <Skaya> "I'm here too. We all are. Devar, got a convenient light?"
19:47 <•Kotono> "I'm here," Sanda agrees, as hands are taken.
19:48 <Devar> "Actually, I do, hold on." Devar says. OOC: I will cast Luminous Armor on myself, it sheds light per a daylight spell
19:48 <Devar> roll 1d2 str damage
19:48 <Kobot> Devar rolled 1d2 str damage --> [ 1d2=1 ]{1}
19:49 Devar set the topic: Skaya: 7+42/42 Devar 57/57 (-1 str) Anne 57/60 Sanda 39/39 Rina 51/52
19:49 <•Kotono> Your armor provides light - barely any within af ew feet of yourself, but Devar at least stands out in the dark. The gloom here fights against it but does not entirely extinguish it. It's enought o dimly see faces as Skaya works - and a click as the lock is popped.
19:50 <Devar> "Huh." Devar says. "Definitely something wrong with this place."
19:51 — Skaya opens the door and steps past.
19:51 <•Kotono> The door opens. You step into a mudroom. You've been here before. No boots, but there are small benches to rest on. The door ahead is as you remember it in the lightning tower from before, too.
19:52 <•Kotono> As Devar's armor shines with light once more, the smothering darkness gone, "What was that?" Anne asks, a soft shiver going through her.
19:52 <•Kotono> "A nightmare, the one where the dark doesn't stop," Rina answers, shifting closer to Devar.
19:52 <Skaya> "So this was a focal point, like the mountain or the glass warehouse," Skaya muses, leading the way inside. "And at least that wasn't impenetrable darkness, so we're still good."
19:53 <Devar> Devar nods. "We can make it back through if we need to." He says. "But hopefully this will lead us somewhere."
19:59 <•Kotono> The door ahead is opened. It opens into a wide open room, in the back stairs that lead up. Standing here, back to you and hands clasped behind her back, is Starre. She's studying the stairs, no sign of acknowledging your entrance.
20:00 <Skaya> "Hi, possibly alternate timeline Starre," Skaya greets her, looking to see if she has her gear.
20:01 <•Kotono> She does. Starre softly hums, a resonant and lyrical sound. "Skaya. Are you real or not, and does it even matter?"
20:02 <•Kotono> "There's only one Skaya, thankfully," Anne speaks up there, voice mildly resigned.
20:02 <Devar> "I'm pretty sure we're all real." Devar says.
20:02 <Skaya> "To be fair, I would love to meet alternate Skayas, but I am the main timeline Skaya," she responds with a nod. "That said, I imagine we would be friends in any possible timeline, so let's work together! What brought you here?"
20:03 <•Kotono> "If that's true, praise the Opal Champion," Starre murmurs, "I came from a thousand places. I was supposed to be here, but...I think she intervened. She saved me, the real me. I still think my life's time is also run out, but she gave me a little more."
20:04 <•Kotono> *almost run out
20:04 <Devar> "So you think you're just a Starre from one of these broken fragments?" Devar asks.
20:06 <Skaya> "I mean, that's not only possible but likely. Do you think you could tell us what quest the Opal Champion sent you on?"
20:08 <•Kotono> "A fragment? A dream? A dream sounds right." Starre says slowly, and thent urns. Blood pours down her front, her throat torn out. An arrow is through her eye, a sword impaled through her chest. Her lower body is burnt badly, blackened. "So many of the paths here lead to my death. I remember most of them." With a frown, even as she speaks despite her wounds, "I don't know. I truly don't. Something
20:08 <•Kotono> held for the real Starre. I don't think you'll see her again once she leaves, not on this side of eternity. Her time is close. As much as I, as much as she wishes revenge on Brachidos, it's not her fate to stop him. I still have much to answer for."
20:09 <•Kotono> Anne readies her holy symbol, but hesitates. "Will my healing help? Do you hurt?"
20:10 <Devar> Devar winces at that but he steels himself and takes a breath. "What is this place? Can we even fix what's broken here?"
20:10 <Skaya> "How about we try?" Skaya tells Anne.
20:10 <•Kotono> Rina jerks her head away, a stranged noise of disgust and sorrow.
20:11 <•Kotono> "I'm not sure, but whatever it is? It's hurt and scared," Starre answers, "Something injured it, traumatized it."
20:11 <•Kotono> A small shake of her head at Anne, "I'm not in any pain, not any more."
20:11 <Devar> "Are you telling us that the root cause of... this problem is something alive?" Devar asks.
20:12 <•Kotono> "In some manner," Starre says, "It has the feel of it. I don't have proof, only instinct. Or maybe I'm created by it and I know my creator. Does the leaf know the tree?"
20:13 <Devar> "If Lady Antenora put you here - or the... various... yous? I don't really get it... but She must've had some reason to do so." Devar says.
20:15 <•Kotono> "Who can say besides Antenora?" Starre questions, "Or Alicia, she is quite loyal to her, or so it is said." A ghost of a smile dances on her lips, "Still, if I helped the real you, I'm satisfied. So know this. If you wish to return, to explore the previous, turn back. This tower is meaningful. Go further and the way back will slip from your reach entirely."
20:16 <Skaya> Since she's refusing healing and she doesn't have much time, Skaya decides to refocus. "Would spending more time exploring harm the real you or the people of Dareslan?"
20:17 <Devar> "And does doing so hurt this being more?" Devar asks.
20:19 <•Kotono> "I don't think so?" A genuine shrug from Starre. Then, "I think that whatever it is, this isn't new. What hurt it wasn't recent. It wasn't anything to do with Brachidos. What's down ehre isn't young."
20:19 <•Kotono> "Maybe another reason Antenora took the real you away from this," Sanda considers, "And no wonder she paid us so well. We'd solve this so the real Starre wouldn't die trying."
20:20 <Devar> "I'm not sure I still understand the 'alternate versions' of things here, but it sounds like we at least understand what's causing it, just not exactly how or why." Devar says.
20:20 <Skaya> "Can you tell us about the dangers in the other places here?" Skaya asks Starre. "Did you end up fighting that glass golem? Or the metal golem? Or go to the orange fire mountaintop? Or dive into the deep blue?"
20:36 <•Kotono> "In broad strokes, tell me of something and I can tell you what I remember," Starre offers.
20:37 <Skaya> "The city gutted by the fire had a fire elemental guarding the mountain with fire that changes you. That fire was red, but there was a distortion leading to a mountain with stronger, orange fire. And down in the city itself there was a bunch of well-trained ankhegs and a sort of telekinetic creature that made its body out of metal, treasure and stone."
20:41 <•Kotono> "I remember the creature," Starre says slowly, "We defeated it eventually, but at great price. Impalement that time, but as I died I saw how it died. It drew in too much and it overloaded itself. Much as too much pressure can cause a man's heart to fail. Provoke it enough and it willd efeat itself, but you face a fearsome enemy head on." After a pause, "The orange fires. The red fires. The same
20:41 <•Kotono> and not quite, I remember a...difference? But in the end I'm not sure it greatly matters. You need the blue fire if you want something special."
20:42 <Skaya> "Well, that golem thing consumed a building so I'm hopeful that would be enough," Skaya muses. "Blue fire? Where can it be found?"
20:44 <Devar> "Maybe in the deep blues?" Devar offers. "As little as that makes sense for fire to be in water."
20:44 <Devar> "Or maybe we have the blue fire now?" Devar asks. "That ice elemental did change the blessing a bit."
20:47 <•Kotono> "Somewhere deeper, past the orange fire, I think," Is the answer from Starre. "I don't remember that one clearly, only that I burned."
20:48 <•Kotono> "Macabre," Anne murmurs, "But thank you for the aid."
20:48 <Skaya> "What about the trained ankhegs? What's their deal? Who's leading them, or where is their home that we can ambush?"
20:49 <Devar> Devar summons Storm's Eye. "Since you seem to have some memories about this place, is there anywhere particularly aligned with lightning that we might be able to take this? Or do you recall anything about it being brought here?"
20:53 <•Kotono> "I remember the ankhegs. We never quite managed to survive to find the leader. They're too strong for us, if you ran from them, you made the right choice. Well, besides Milla, but-" A stop. "I remember your weapon. I held it once, another time Skaya did, another time Rina did. It's not your friend but it's not pointlessly hostile. It wants to repair itself, but I don't understand the details,
20:53 <•Kotono> only that it will achieve this no matter what the cost is to the wielder."
20:54 <Skaya> "Wow, ominous," Skaya comments. "What about deep blue, the Maelstrom and all the Ices? Any advice for dealing with those?"
20:54 <Devar> "Well that's rather ominous." Devar agrees.
20:58 <•Kotono> "I remember the Ices. Flash-death from cold. Shattering." Starre sounds nostalgic. "They don't like us going to the deep blue. Go in and it's like the fires, but if you can reach the bottom of the big lake? There's something special there. But you'd have to defeat Ice, a powerful ice para elemental. Ice, a white dragon that knwos invisibility magic, and Ice, a half ice para elemental marid,
20:58 <•Kotono> though Ice has the mind of an elemental rather than a marid."
20:59 <Devar> "I'm not sure I love the idea of fighting any of those." Devar admits.
20:59 <•Kotono> "I remember the Maelstrom. You can't leave the city. If you're lucky, you're tossed elsewhere. If you're not, you die torn apart," Is Starre's answer as she remembers. "There's hidden places, many hidden passages both deeper and back upwards to other places. Other dreams, maybe."
21:01 <•Kotono> "Say," It's Sanda who speaks up, "Do you remember any good treasures we can find here?"
21:02 <Skaya> "Something to make one smarter or a better wizard is also great," Skaya voices. "If the blue or orange fire can do that, I'd be tempted to toss Sanda into it."
21:02 <•Kotono> Anne doesn't hide the grimace on her face.
21:06 <•Kotono> "I remember the Crystalwind Cloak," Starre reflects, "So pretty when worn. It's sitting in one of the frozen buildings, undefended except if you run into Ice. It protects you with arctic winds and you can send that same wind at your enemies. There's the Yuki-Onna's Sword, if you gain the favor of the snow spirit that has it. A sword frozen permanently, I saw Rina wield it naturally. There's
21:06 <•Kotono> Goldenfang, lost beneath the warm waters. A sword that invigorates its wielded and shines with golden glimmers and glitterdust. I fancied at times, before I died with it in my hand. There's also what the Half-Woman seeks, but it lies in possession of the ankhegs. A scroll with the spell she so desperately desires, I remember your joy at finding it, before we were all overwhelmed."
21:07 <•Kotono> "Of course they have it," Sanda doesn't keep the quiet annoyance out of her voice. "I hate when bad odds come home."
21:08 <Devar> "Maybe we can find a way to bait the ankhegs into following us into that vortex golem." Devar says. "Then they'd get stuck inside of all of it."
21:10 <Skaya> "Where are the warm waters, again?"
21:12 <•Kotono> "I remember Bastia's Belt, and Skaya's celebration, but it lies at the very edge of the deepest distortions of the cathedral." A reflection on that as Starre continues, "The Tome Of Great Might can only be found if you reach the acrid peak, but it's not guarded beyond reaching it past the acid storms. I remember Oathstrike and Oathplate, guarded by knight of the diseases, and how Anne treasured
21:12 <•Kotono> them even as she coughed up her heart's blood. A quest for Devar alone, for the diseases in that filth worka s fast as fire on flesh."
21:13 <Skaya> "Even my constitution can't hold up to those diseases?"
21:14 <Skaya> OOC: Purity of Body
21:14 <Devar> Devar looks a bit slackjawed listening to all of this. "How in the world did so many things end up here...?"
21:16 <•Kotono> "I remember the warm waters. Where we drowned, but it's full of life. So many creatures there, more diplomacy than combat once we journeyed within." Starrea nswers.
21:16 <•Kotono> "It's like she's reciting almost," Anne murmurs to herself.
21:17 <•Kotono> "I don't know for certain," Starre answers Skaya at last, "You weren't there that time. I don't think you survived? I'm not sure."
21:17 <Devar> "How many lives has she had to live?" Devar asks. "Is this what Antenora sees as penitence?"
21:17 <Skaya> "Can you tell me how to reach the warm waters or the deepest distortions of the cathedral, Starre?" Skaya asks her. "Those are the treasures that I like the sound of the most, and the ones that require the least fighting by the sounds of it."
21:18 <•Kotono> "It disturbs me greatly, but-"A  hard stop here, "Starre didn't come here, did she? I don't think this is Antenora's fault, but instead that Starre even came close here."
21:19 <•Kotono> As Anne comments ont hat, Starre continues, "You saw waters before? Did you? Go there. It's close to the beginning." Starre answers, "You have to keep going to the cathederal, until you find the one that repeats. I don't remember entirely what else."
21:20 <Skaya> "What about Sanda? Did she ever fight something she really liked? Please tell me it wasn't a staff."
21:20 <Devar> "It sounds like the Tome is probably something for her." Devar says. "We could protect ourselves against acid and get it easily enough, it sounds like."
21:21 — Skaya squints at Sanda at Devar's words. It's certainly possible for this muscle-brained wizard.
21:24 <•Kotono> "I-" Starre stops and studies Sanda anew, "I remember the Quartz Staff. It's deeper. A hidden passage in the Maelstrom, a bakery, a-" A stop there, "I remember the hidden passage. It repeats. Find the repetition hidden passage in the bakery."
21:25 <•Kotono> "That sounds usefula nd pretty," Sanda brightens, "And profitable if I don't like it."
21:25 <Skaya> "Just what is the Maelstrom, exactly? Is it the entire frozen city? The large lake within it? The lake taking the place of the mountain in the city gutted by fire?"
21:27 <•Kotono> "I remember the Maelstrom. You can't leave the city. If you're lucky, you're tossed elsewhere. If you're not, you die torn apart," Is Starre's answer as she remembers. "There's hidden places, many hidden passages both deeper and back upwards to other places. Other dreams, maybe. Other dreams, maybe?" A question repeated at the end. "I think it's like a dream. Or maybe it's a nightmare. It is
21:27 <•Kotono> hurt and scared."
21:27 <Skaya> "How about you, Starre? What treasure did you like the most?"
21:28 <Devar> Devar stays silent, mentally keeping track of all the answers they've been given so far.
21:39 <•Kotono> "Goldenfang," IS the answer, "It was pretty and powerful, and it pleased me to find such a good balance."
21:40 <Skaya> "Got it. We'll try to get as much of this stuff as we can without being in mortal danger and then return."
21:41 <•Kotono> "Until then," Starre says. With that said, now what?
21:41 — Skaya leads the way back, voicing, "Let's aim for the Crystalwind Cloak first. It's unguarded and right in this area, after all."
21:43 <Devar> "It sounds like that Starre was some sort of... echo, I guess?" Devar voices. "Echos of the different fragmentations?"
21:44 <Skaya> "An amalgam of all her deaths. How horrifying, truly."
21:44 <•Kotono> "It explains a good deal of this place," Anne bows her head in thought, "Echos, like the distortions of a nightmare. The repetitions, the often hostility for no good reason. It's something both scared and trying to protect itself."
21:44 <Devar> "But I agree we look for the two treasures she mentioned in the ice part." Devar says. "But all we have to go on is it's "in a frozen building" which..."
21:45 <•Kotono> "Is not a great lead, but maybe," A trail off, Rina quiet, "If we please that snow woman we met, she can help us with that search. She may well know where it is."
21:45 <Skaya> "So we'll need to kill a not-marid or a not-dragon," Skaya says with a sigh. "We could also take a look at the cathedral here. Maybe it repeats?"
21:45 <•Kotono> "If we got that far, there's Ice. Where there's a dragon, there's a hoard," SAnda says, "Logically speaking, the odds of great treasure ther eis high."
21:46 <•Kotono> "If in doubt, we can always go forward," Anne points out, "We need not linger and gather treasure. It strongly suggested that this tower leads us closer to the source of this."
21:47 <Devar> "Let's go back to the glass shop in this ice world?" Devar offers. "Maybe we can ask the snow woman... ...wait, isn't that what a yuki onna is?" Devar asks.
21:47 <Skaya> "I do want some treasure," Skaya admits. "But if most of you want to just proceed we can turn around and go into the tower."
21:47 <•Kotono> "I'm torn," Anne admits, "Opportunities versus risk."
21:48 <•Kotono> "Treasure," Sanda says right away, "I want a Quartz STaff and more."
21:48 <•Kotono> Rina bows her head, before, "I stepped into a fire to get a little stronger, to kill Brachidos. Why would I turn down more risk for more treasure, which helps me kill Brachidos?"
21:48 <Devar> "We originally came here to chase after Brachidos, I think finding things here gives us an advantage over him. Remember that his minions sealed off parts of this place, so I think we can find things to use against him here. We have plenty of safe places we can camp now and get rest if we need to, so there's no real risk for us."
21:49 <Skaya> "I actually thought she was a virago, but she might be a yuki onna," Skaya agrees with Devar. "As for treasure, everything involving it would have risk, be it here or outside. That Starre gave us some hints makes the risk more manageable."
21:51 <•Kotono> "Then we return to the frozen city?" Sanda suggests, "We can start from there."
21:51 <Devar> Devar nods. "I'm all for it."
21:51 <Skaya> "Yes."
21:52 <•Kotono> Thus the party returns. When you exit the tower, you see your'e back in the original Maelstrom, merely empty rather than in ruin or worse.
21:53 — Skaya leads the way to the icy staircase. There is a rope prepared there!
21:54 <Devar> Devar grimaces. "Remind me to buy some magic boots that let you walk across difficult surfaces when we get back."
21:54 <Skaya> "Be like me, use rope."
21:56 <•Kotono> With that the party goes on and...OOC: That's a good pausing point since it's time. Remember that nos ession this coming Thursday. It's possible I am for a make up session on Tuesday this week, is that possible or practical?
<Steph> I might have made a terrible mistake

18:33 <•Kotono> OOC: Going to use the rope to get people ups afely?
18:33 <Devar> OOC: yar
18:34 <•Kotono> OOC: I don't think anyone's so incompetent that with Skaya aid and rope that they're going to fall. More.
18:35 <•Kotono> It takes some careful doing and rope, but the party is able to safely ascend the icy staircase, returning to the cold once more.
18:35 — Skaya collects the rope! Waste not! And then she leads the way out into the streets. They've found the treasures before, and if Starre didn't give them directions it was probably through random chance. Then they should walk around randomly and look into buildings.
18:37 <Devar> "Do we want to go back to the shop and see if we can get answers from the snow spirit that helped us?" Devar asks.
18:37 <Skaya> "I think it dispersed, but we can do that. Lead the way!"
18:38 <Devar> Devar will take to the sky to make sure they go in the right direction back to the glass shop and look around to see if he can spot the elemental at all from the air!

18:39 <•Kotono> The trip back to the glass shop is without incident. There's no sign of the snow woman here, only the gentle falling of snow from above.
18:40 <Skaya> "Maybe you should keep on leading us? With that damage-reducing weapon?"
18:40 <Devar> Devar will land after looking around from above the shop! "I don't see her anywhere around." He announces. He nods to Skaya. "That's fine, I can do that."
18:42 <Devar> "Let's check the known areas first I guess?" He offers. "So the cathedral in this world?"
18:43 <Skaya> "Sure. Lead the way, and I'll keep on looking into any house that seems uniced."
18:43 <•Kotono> "The cathedral," Anne agrees, "If that's a safe location, we can use that as a base to operate from."
18:43 <•Kotono> "Just be careful, this is still hard footing." Rina says, as you struggle along. OOC: Just a reminder about difficult terrain.

18:46 <•Kotono> You proceed to the cathedral. As you go around to it, you find on the street before it? There's a crack in the street. Deep blue waters well up, a little cleft no larger than your arm.
18:47 <Skaya> "Devar, you got plenty of protection from the cold, right? Let's see how bad the exposure to this water is."
18:48 <Devar> "Sure." He says, flying down to stick his hand into the water.

18:58 <•Kotono> It's cold. Intensely cold, a cold that mere days ago might have wounded you. Now it's cold but not unpleasant, endured withoutany discomfort.
18:59 <Devar> "It is... very cold." Devar announces. "Probably somehow colder than the snow around us." He explains. "If we choose to brave it later we will need to be prepared."
18:59 — Skaya has that magical protection over her, and she tries the waters with her hand next!
18:59 <Skaya> OOC: Cold res 10
19:03 <•Kotono> "Far too cold," Anne agrees, shivering, as Skaya feels the same result. Cold cold cold!
19:04 <•Kotono> "So why are you dipping your hands into it?" Rina asks, "If you know it's dangerous.:"
19:04 <Skaya> "If we use magical protections, it would be enough to ward it off. For fifty minutes, anyway."
19:04 <Skaya> At Rina's question, she responds while drying her hand off, "We had to know if magic would be enough to protect us, and the one on me will run out soon anyway."
19:07 <•Kotono> "Mm." Rina lets it go at that. Continuing on or...?
19:08 <Skaya> OOC: To the cathedral!
19:08 <Devar> "I can deal with the water later." Devar says. "I'll be able to breathe in it and endure the cold, so let's check the cathedral here first."
19:08 <Devar> OOC: yeah!
19:10 <•Kotono> You reach the cathedral. From the outside it's unremarkable, at least nothing to distinguish it compared to others that you've seen. At least tothe casual eye. OOC: Go ahead and give me Perception checks all, may as well.

19:39 <•Kotono> Ice slowly makes a difficult turn in midair, a long pass back towards the party. As it does. Without a word the wyrm glares down at the three of you, ice cold, as thick fog suddenly surrounds all of you. Visibility is terrible now, you can barely see five feet in front of you, and you certainly can't see Ice in the sky. OOC: Fog effect over all of you, centered around the cathedral doors. It's
19:39 <•Kotono> not solid fog, so movement's okay.  Sanda.
19:39 <•Kotono> Mostly blind, Sanda retreats towards Skaya, stumbling into the wall next to her instead. "Owwww..." Sanda groans, "Hurry, hurry!" she cries to Skaya. OOC: Devar.
19:40 <Devar> "I'll keep its attention!" Devar calls out, as he flies up and out of the fog. OOC: With 50ft of movement I can get behind the dragon, yeah? Since it seems to have a hard time turning around I'd like to get there if possible.
19:41 <•Kotono> OOC: If you want to, sure.

19:42 <Devar> OOC: I'm not done yet! I want to whack it!
19:44 <•Kotono> OOC: Oh okay, go for it.

19:48 <•Kotono> Click! The lock is undone!
19:48 — Skaya shoulders the door open and gets inside!
19:52 <•Kotono> Skaya retreats inside, out of the fog. The cathedral is the same as before, except not. It's cool in her, chilled. Yet in place of Eldath are other symbols. Great snowflakes, and an altar of ice. There isn't a sense of hostility, simply of a deep cold instead. Rina's in seconds after, stumbling in, slidinga nd skidding in the difficult terrain. She does a belly flop down and slides, the floor
19:52 <•Kotono> slick-frozen enough to take her a dozen feet in a sprawl. Anne's behind her, diving in and away from the door. OOC: More, Ice is up.
19:52 <•Kotono> Slowly turning in the air Ice lashes out - not with claw or mouth, not trying to adjust. Instead as it does, its tail lashes out to slam Devar right int he chest.

19:53 <Devar> OOC: 27, but due to Luminous Armor it also suffers -4 on any melee attacks, but safe either way
19:54 <•Kotono> Devar's armor holds. The bright-armor blocks the tail lash completely, instead only knocking him back in the air. Sanda meanwhile flees in with the others, stumbling ina nd bringing in snow with her. "Ah!" she cries, "D-d-dragon!" she yelps. OOC: Devar.
19:54 <Devar> Devar heard the others down there, and now makes his withdrawl to join them! OOC: withdraw action and he'll fly back down into the fog to chase them inside.
19:57 <•Kotono> Devar darts down and flees from the dragon. Perhaps wise as the party is all in there now, all...safe? Maybe? OOC: Skaya.
19:57 <Devar> "So what's the plan if it decides to take a smaller form and come in here?" Devar asks.
19:58 <Skaya> "Okay, so it's a dragon. We can fight it, but we're not really prepared for it now," Skaya says to try and instill some confidence in the team. "What's our next move?" The only plan she has she absolutely can't use with Rina here, since that would be bringing the building down upon the dragon.
19:59 <Skaya> To Devar, she says after a brief contemplation, "If you hold it off at the door while somewhat protected from its attacks, I can support you. We'll see from there."
19:59 <Devar> Devar nods to that!
20:01 <Skaya> "It would absolutely be weak to a lightning blast, too!" Skaya affirms, before heading for the altar of ice. Offering their host a prayer can't hurt.
20:02 <•Kotono> Meanwhile the others get distance and brace themselves, but the wyrm outside isn't idle. There's a loud THUMP on the roof.  Quite loud, as a matter of fact.
20:02 <•Kotono> Rina freezes a horrible moment as Anne looks up, lightning quick. "It's on the roof?"
20:04 <Devar> OOC: Are there doors out of here like in the other cathedral or just the one we came in with?
20:11 <•Kotono> OOC: Yes.
20:11 <Devar> "If it intends to either sit up there and wait or crash it down on us, we may as see where one of the doors go." Devar suggests.
20:14 <Skaya> "Go for it!"
20:15 <Devar> Devar will go to open the door to the left of the main altar first and see what's there!
20:19 <•Kotono> The door opens as there's another thud on the roof. It opens up to another cathedral, identical to this one.
20:20 <Skaya> "Awesome! Iterative cathedrals! Run for it, girls!" And Skaya follows her own advice.
20:22 <Devar> OOC: Devar will wait until the others all go through to the next door cathedral before going in after them.
20:27 <•Kotono> "Running!" Anne calls, the party fleeing into this cathedral and through, away from the noises of the previous.
20:28 — Skaya closes the door once they're through and looks for the next one. Bastia's Belt could be further down the iterations of this cathedral! She might truly turn things around if it's a treasure another her was so happy about!
20:30 <•Kotono> It's dead ahead, opposite this door. Also the doors out in case you care about that.
20:31 <Devar> "We're already here, so I say let's proceed as far as it lets us." Devar says.
20:31 — Skaya opens the door that's dead ahead!~
20:34 <•Kotono> This door is firmly jammed shut - frozen, seems like.
20:35 <Skaya> Then she's breaking it down! With maximum force!

20:41 <•Kotono> Multiple blows make the door pop open. A third cathedral here, this one warmer but crumbling, no ice but instead only ruin. Otherwise, it's roughly the same.
20:41 <•Kotono> "Not quite a repetition, but close," Sanda remarks as you go.
20:41 <Skaya> It might be crumbling but it still has another door! So Skaya opens it!
20:43 <Devar> Devar nods. "It's like when we went through that tower door." he says.
20:50 <•Kotono> This door does not open.
20:51 <•Kotono> "Similar to that," Rina agrees, glancing back. You can't hear ny more thumps at least.
20:51 — Skaya tries to open it normally! She doesn't resort to violence all the time. And it's warmer here, so it might work better.
20:51 <Skaya> roll 1d20+14 DD
20:51 <Kobot> Skaya rolled 1d20+14 DD --> [ 1d20=2 ]{16}
20:52 <Skaya> OOC: I'll take 10 for 24, and if that's not enough there's no escape from taking 20 for 34
20:52 <Devar> "I wonder if it's warmer here because we're 'moving away' from the ice distortion." Devar says. OOC: Is the iconography the same here despite it being warmer?
20:57 <•Kotono> No good. There's no lock or way to open it, and trying to fiddle it simply doesn't budge it at all.
20:57 <•Kotono> The iconography is mostly ruined here, but you notice that there's remnants of Eldathian designs here.
20:58 <Devar> "Huh." Devar says, tracing a finger on the altar as Skaya does her work.
20:59 — Skaya examines the door carefully. Can she remove the hinges and thus the door that way? And should she use violence, will it damager the structural integrity of the place?
21:00 <•Kotono> There's no hinges you realize. Just a door fitted into thetw all. It looks firmly fitted into the wall, but yo udoubt taking it down would threaten anything. Youthink.
21:01 — Skaya breaks a hole in the door! If the door can't be opened and it can't be pushed inwards, perhaps she could use the opening to pull it open towards her.
21:06 <•Kotono> Hit after hit rains down ont he door, yet it doesn't budge. The stone its made of isn't even damaged in the slightest.
21:08 <Skaya> "Brainstorming time! There's no mechanism I can see for opening this door, and it's impervious to magical attacks or force. Devar, did you try praying at the altar or something?" Skaya voices, double-checking to ensure there's no extra-hidden mechanism nearby.

21:09 <Devar> "We have an option." Devar says as Skaya doesn't seem to be making headway. "But it's risky - I could go through the stone. Ah... and no I didn't try praying, but I can."
21:10 <•Kotono> Nothing Skaya sees.
21:10 <Skaya> "Go for it. And Sanda, do you see any magic here?"
21:10 <•Kotono> Meanwhile the others are resting, recovering fromt he dragon fright. "That's a thought," Rina speaks up, "Go through it rather than batter past."
21:10 <•Kotono> "Nothing," Sanda saysa fter a moment.
21:11 <Devar> Devar will clean up the altar as best he can if he can find any pieces to make the correct symbol for Eldath and pray for a moment to give them direction and aid to move forward. Maybe it'll work!
21:15 <•Kotono> Devar works away - but nothing happens, at least nothing obvious.
21:15 <Skaya> "I guess communing with the divine is always a longshot. I'd say take the risk since there's no magic on the stone that can mess it up. That belt might be just past this."
21:16 <Devar> "...We shouldn't try and go past it." Devar says, rather suddenly. "I... didn't hear anything directly, but it was very clear to me. We might not need to to find that belt anyway, let's try the door that leads 'out' of here and see where we are?"
21:18 <Skaya> "We kind of do need it," Skaya says stubbornly. "But if you actually got an answer not to go there, we won't."
21:19 <Devar> "I don't think it was a compulsion from here, at least." He says. "But we may already be at the deepest part of the distortion anyway, so maybe it's just behind the other door?"
21:21 <Skaya> "Okay. Want to open it and see if it feels right to you?"
21:21 <Devar> "Sure." Devar says, heading to the door that should lead outside of the cathedral to see what's behind it! If it opens.
21:26 <•Kotono> This door opens. Ahead lies another cathedral, as if you were coming in from the far side, opposite the street entrance. This one is frozen over again, icy and cold.
21:27 <Devar> "Huh. Maybe the stone is like a 'boundary' and that's why it's a bad idea to go through it." Devar offers to the others. "Is this the first time we've seen one of these oriented this way though?"
21:27 <Devar> "Either way, it looks like we can continue." Devar offers.

19:17 <Devar> He nods and goes to take a seat on the edge of the bed and tries his best to clear his mind and just mediate on being peaceful - and thinks about Eldath in doing so!
19:18 <•Kotono> Devar feels better for having done so, but nothing happens as far as anyone can tell. At least it gives you time - time for the remnants of the dragonfear to pass. Sanda eventually rests against the wall, silent.
19:19 — Skaya decides to fill the barrel with water. She does carry plenty with her in the haversack, after all, and they could use it again later if Anne's idea doesn't work.
19:22 <•Kotono> OOC: How much do you carry in the haversack? Just need to know nwo for DM reasons.
19:22 <•Kotono> *how much water
19:24 <Skaya> OOC: I mostly carry water and food in it as emergency rations. It says the haversack's central portion can contain up to 8 cubic feet or 80 pounds of material, so let's say I have water barrels/containers there for this since water is the most important. The rest (2 side pouches of 2 cubic feet in volume or 20 pounds in weight each) would be taken by weapons, gold and food.
19:26 <•Kotono> OOC: That's fine, okay, more.
19:27 <•Kotono> Water is produced, survival instincts paying off. For when the barrel is filled and begins to overflow, the back wall shifts. What was once wall and plaque is now a door leading further in.
19:27 <•Kotono> "Now what I want to know, is that if the distortion did this or if it's a genuine leftover of whatever this is." Rina says, "That's..."
19:27 <Skaya> "Nicely done, Anne!" Skaya cheers, allowing Devar to lead the way as the representative of Eldath.
19:28 <•Kotono> "The distortion," Anne says, "We already know there's intelligence behind it of some kind." She looks unsurprised, even as Sanda scowls quietly. "There's purpose to everything here, this isn't pointless."
19:28 <Devar> "I wonder if it saw a lot of Eldathian people come through here." He says. "There does seem to be a significant influence." He adds as he and goes to open the door!
19:32 <•Kotono> The door opens. In here sits a small squared out room. It's fully iced overs ave a hole in the center, where clear, pure water bubbles up. Warm steam rises from it as the waters bubble and boil. The hole is big enough for a man to go in and swimd own, and deep in - at least two dozen feet down in the boiling waters - sits a rich, blue gemstone the size of a human hand.
19:33 <•Kotono> Rina peers down and whistles, "If that's a sapphire or another rare gem and not just glass or quartz..."
19:33 <•Kotono> "Or if it's magic," Sanda adds, "Statistically speaking, either one of those is likely true."
19:33 <Skaya> "I suppose I could chance it," Skaya muses, peering at the hole.
19:34 <Devar> "I regret having my ability to resist fire taken away." Devar says. "Whoever tries should take the ring that lets you breathe and swim more easily." He offers.
19:34 <Skaya> "Sure thing, let me give it a try," Skaya agrees, extending her hand to him.
19:35 <•Kotono> "Hold on, I can help," Anne says, "I prepared a great deal of elemental resistance magic."
19:36 <Devar> Devar hands the Clearwater Ring over!
19:37 <•Kotono> OOC: Casting protection from energy, which soaks up 5*12=60 points of fire damage until expended. Does not stack with resist energy.
19:38 <Skaya> After thanking Anne and Devar and putting the ring on, Skaya leaves her haversack behind and jumps into the boiling water! She'll swim over to the gemstone, and keep an eye for anything interesting in the water as well.
19:38 <•Kotono> OOC: Swim and Perception checks.

19:40 <•Kotono> It's a tough swim but Skaya swims down. She doesn't feel anything as she's boiled alive, unhurt for a few more moments. She doesn't see anything unusual, buts he reaches the bottom and grabs the gemstone.
19:40 <Skaya> OOC: Does protection go off first or fire resistance?
19:40 <•Kotono> OOC: Protection soaks first.
19:41 <Skaya> Since there's nothing useful below and taking the gemstone hadn't changed anything, Skaya swims up with all her strength! Luckily, Devar's ring eliminates the usual water resistance she's used to.
19:42 <•Kotono> roll 10d6 no checks needed this time
19:42 <Kobot> Kotono rolled 10d6 no checks needed this time --> [ 10d6=37 ]{37}
19:42 <Skaya> OOC: Protection from fire expires, Fire res 5 happens, 7 temp hp expires, 9 damage total
19:43 <•Kotono> Skaya burns and boils and has to suppress a scream. But boiling and scalded, she scrambled out of the water, gemstone in hand. Her entire body steams hot, melting the ice on contact as even more steam erupts from that. Painful, but it could have been far worse and far more fatal.
19:43 <•Kotono> Anne's there in an instant, "Do you need restoration?" she asks, "The protection lasted almost long enough."
19:44 <Skaya> "Really saved me, there," Skaya says with a grimace, offering the ring back to Devar. "If we're healing up, let's have everyone recover."
19:45 <Devar> Devar takes the ring back. "Still, that gem has to be magical, right?" Devar asks, with a look over to Sanda.
19:46 <•Kotono> "Lady Jetina, please," Anne whispers, as relief comes for all but Anne.

19:54 <•Kotono> With healing done, the gemstone is in hand. It's a beautiful blue gemstone, cut classically and like nothing more than a diamond out of a fairy tale. It has a weight to it, a heft.
19:55 <•Kotono> Sanda peers at it long, "It is magic," she finally reports, "Give me a minute..."
19:55 <•Kotono> roll 1d20+12

19:56 <•Kotono> "Intense, powerful evocation magic," Sanda says, "But I'm not clear on how it's used."
19:57 <Skaya> "Maybe it makes the blue fire?"
19:57 <Devar> "I can cast identify on it, if you think that would help?" Devar offers.
19:57 <•Kotono> "Statistically speaking, it shouldn't hurt. If it was cursed and reacted to divinations, I would already be cursed." Sanda agrees.
19:58 <•Kotono> "Unless is was a curse of math," Anne murmurs, more to herself than anything.
19:58 <Devar> Devar nods. OOC: Using my monocle, so casting detect magic and studying it to cast identify.
19:58 <•Kotono> Then after a moment, "Apologies, I didn't mean to say that out loud."
20:00 <•Kotono> OOC: Loot updated.
20:00 <•Kotono> Sanda doesn't comment, everyone instead focused on Devar's work. "Well?" Rina asks.
20:00 <Devar> "...Ah." Devar says after a moment. "You break it open and drink what's inside, and it bolsters your health."
20:01 <•Kotono> "That's a fancy bottle for a healing potion," Rina's voice drops, dripping with let down.
20:02 <Devar> "I think it's a lot more than just a healing potion, to be fair." Devar says.
20:02 <Skaya> "It's probably really great," Skaya agrees.
20:02 <•Kotono> "The most dangerous healing potion to find of all time," Anne smiles slightly despite it, "Save for the one under Auril's pillow. But yes, levity aside, I suspect Devar is correct."
20:03 <•Kotono> "It probably is," Sanda muses now, in thought, "Then the question is, who gets it?"
20:05 <Skaya> "Let's flip a coin a few times?" Skaya proposes. "We're likely to find more useful stuff so whoever gets it will be excluded from other stuff that many of us can benefit from and so on?"
20:05 <•Kotono> "That or draw lots," Anne agrees, "Either is fine, so long as it's agreeably random and in the hands of fate, rather than our own quarrels."
20:06 <Devar> "I feel like I've lucked into enough things so far." Devar says. "So I'll withdraw myself from consideration here."
20:06 <•Kotono> "I'm fine with that," Rina agrees, nodding to Devar at that. "So the four of us?"
20:06 <•Kotono> "I'd like it," Sanda agrees, "Statistically speaking, it's good for any of us if it is what we hope it is."

20:07 <Skaya> After an exciting game of luck, Rina ends up as the winner!
20:08 <•Kotono> When the last coin comes down Rina grins, taking the gem. Sanda sighs and Anne merely smiles to her, as the gem is fiddled with. The top simply comes away and crumbles into gemstone dust,a nd within is a little bit of bright blue liquid. It's gunned down and...

20:10 <Skaya> "Nice," Skaya congratulates her. "Feel up to facing off against a dragon?"
20:13 <Devar> "We've got one more door to explore, right?" Devar asks.
20:13 <Skaya> "At least! Lead the way, Devar? You seem to bring luck here."
20:13 <•Kotono> "Better to explore that. Perhaps Ice will wander away or give up," Anne says, "Or lay a trap, but we've already given him time to do that."
20:14 <•Kotono> "And it's like I was breathing wrong, again," Rina goes on, a breath and nothing more for long seconds. Then it's only a small, shallow breath, barely noticable.
20:14 <Devar> Devar nods and heads back to the cathedral, then heads for the door that leads out of this one. "That'll be helpful if we ever need a second person to go underwater." He says.
20:15 <Skaya> "It's a dragon! Trapping anywhere but its hoard is probably ridiculously shameful, all other dragons will mock it. Not to mention that no trap it makes will be worse than it simply attacking directly."
20:21 <•Kotono> This door opens. Another repetition, another cathedral entered from the back. A door to the side and a door out, again. It's cold here, iced over and slippery. Otherwise it's what you'd expect.
20:22 <Devar> "Interesting." Devar says as he carefully moves over to openthe door opposite where they are.
20:28 <•Kotono> The door out does not open. It appeared to be jammed.
20:28 <•Kotono> "Ona nd on it goes," Rina remarks, "Hopefully we find what Skaya seeks soon."
20:29 — Skaya starts working on the door's hinges. She can chip away at the ice and then dismantle the mechanism keeping the door closed!
20:30 <Devar> "I might ask to buy that adamantine warhammer when we get back." Devar says. "We keep running into situations like this."
20:35 <•Kotono> The hinges give in due time and are removed, and enough force and work does break the mechanism and dismantle it.
20:36 <Skaya> Once the door is opened, Skaya peers at the room it reveals!
20:38 <•Kotono> Another cathedral. No doors here - but it is not empty. Various debris, objects and junk litter the place. Standing within, about 20ft away, is a humanoid figure in full armor. Not a feature can be seen, and hec arries a massive maul, a greathammer enough to shatter stone. The ground is iced over even if the debris aren't entirely, and the humanoid figure is coated in ice.
20:39 — Skaya winces. Still, if it's not a dragon with infinite attacks and flight, perhaps Devar can hold him off? Especially since he has a way to negate some of the damage in any exchange of blows.
20:40 <•Kotono> Anne readies her shield, but calls, "Are you a friend or enemy?"
20:40 <•Kotono> Rina braces on the ice, hand on the hilt of her blade, ready.
20:41 <Devar> "Is this another Ice?" Devar asks.
20:41 <Skaya> "Yes! It might be possible some people here don't just want to fight everyone!"
20:42 <•Kotono> In Common the knight turnst o Devar, "You wear the symbol of Eldath, the symbol of weakness." A man's voice. Rough, low. "A symbol that cost Welland blood, tears and treasure for that weakness.":
20:43 <Devar> "Some comment from someone who's stuck in a room by themselves." Devar says with a shrug.
20:43 <•Kotono> "They feared me, they sealed me and now...now...now...die! Pay for your weakness with your life!" The knight roars, lunging at Devar with inhuman swiftness. OOC: Init. Sometimes you run into someone else's story and they just don't like you.

20:59 <•Kotono> Shaking off the pain Rina goes to the side, darting past and taking a swipe as she does, trying not to slip-slide as best she can. She can just barely do it, still in range after due to the terrain.

21:01 <•Kotono> Init is Skaya (23) > Knight (22) > Anne (20) > Rina (13) > Devar = Sanda (11)
21:04 <Devar> OOC: If I wanted to try something such as casting Shocking Grasp onto Storm's Eye and stabbing our foe here, can I do that? I'm hoping that expending a spell slot and attacking with it will do something new with the weapon. I figure I'm giving up on the potential damage of shocking grasp for my attack roll if it doesn't do anything, but wanted to make sure it was okay for me to try it.
21:05 <•Kotono> OOC: You could try casting electricity damage directly on STorm's Eye if you like, but that's still your standard action unless you have some way to quicken it.
21:05 <Devar> OOC: Okay.
21:06 <•Kotono> OOC: Sanda could with her duskblade abilities, since that's what she's done several times before, for example.
21:07 <Devar> Devar will fly up - he has enough room, anyway, and land on the other side of the knight, flanking with the others. He summons Storm's Eye and channels a Shocking Grasp into it! OOC: I'll just do all of it this turn and we can see if it has an effect next turn then.
21:08 <•Kotono> Storm's Eye appears and cackles, "Oh yes, that's a wake up call! Give me some lightning to help Devar and his lovely ladies! Let me at big, armored and ugly!"

21:21 <•Kotono> Again healing comes to balance out the theft of life. Anne keeps pace, holy symbol burning with warm light. All of you endure as Rina holds a moment. OOC: She'll be reactive in case it's needed, it's a bad situation for her, so better to be emergency grabbing if necessary.  Devar and Sanda.
21:22 <Skaya> "Rina, feed Anne a potion instead of staying in melee?"
21:22 <Devar> "The only weakness is you, you undead abomination!" Devar shouts, stabbing the (hopefully) empowered Storm's Eye into the knight - with an extra oomph given by Eldath herself!

21:26 <•Kotono> Storm's Eye crackles as you strike, a powerful blow - that's blocked by hammer, deflected away. A bad swing and a lucky parry, together enough to thwart even that. Sanda stays back and casts again, keeping up her strategy not to get smashed into Sanda-bits.

21:27 <Skaya> Perhaps he'll be denied after all? Skaya switches tactics, drawing her sais to try and remove that terrible hammer from the undead knight's hands!

21:31 <Skaya> OOC: Well, it was a high roll
21:31 <Skaya> OOC: I'll use my other attack to kick the hammer away towards Rina
21:32 <•Kotono> With a deft move the hammer is pinned and thrown away, lading a bit away ont he frozen ground. It's out of the knight's hand, leaving him weaponless. You kick the hammer to Rina, who immediately moves to pick it up. OOC: Taking her held action.
21:32 <•Kotono> Init is Skaya = Rina (23) > Knight (22) > Anne (20) > Devar = Sanda (11)
21:32 <Skaya> "Nice! It's like you've read my mind!" Skaya calls out, disguising her fatigue.
21:32 <•Kotono> Rina picks up and hefts the hammer in both hands, grinning, "My turn!" OOC: Knight is up.
21:33 <•Kotono> Disarmed, the knight snarls as life is stolen once more, no attack - simply the sapping of vitality instead.

21:56 <•Kotono> That last one is finally too much. The warrior begins to flake away, steel turning to ash. Beneath the armor is nothing but a skeleton, which crumbles away - save for a metallic silver snowflake pendant, which glows with a pale blue light. That falls to the ground as the warrior crumbles, only that and his hammer left behind.  OOC: Free act.
21:57 <•Kotono> Anne immediately staggers back, slips and falls to the ground. She breathes hard, "Ah...ah...ah...."

22:01 <•Kotono> OOC: The snowflake pendant did not.
22:01 <Skaya> "Doesn't seem like this pendant is something Starre ran into," Skaya muses, picking it up.
22:01 <•Kotono> "She didn't mention it, but it may be a mistake to assume she runs into everything," Anne agrees as she rests.
22:01 <•Kotono> Sanda scowls, "Magic missile failed? That's the worst."
22:01 <Skaya> "She didn't mention that blue gemstone either, but maybe it wasn't treasure enough for her."
22:02 <•Kotono> Rina grunts and puts her hammer down, "Good weapon, but it's heavy," she says after.
22:02 <Devar> "It's probably more than just a symbol of Auril." Devar says. "Since it's still here and all."
22:02 <Skaya> Since she didn't get horribly cursed, Skaya presents the pendant to Sanda and Devar. "Want to check what it does?"
22:02 <•Kotono> "This too," Rina brings over the hammer.

22:16 <Devar> Devar makes a face. "It would be just worse enough." He says with a scowl. "I don't hate Auril enough to say we should destroy that, especially given where we are, but don't put it on."
22:16 <Skaya> "Ah." Skaya sighs, and loses interest in their gains before searching the room they'd just fought in. The belt must be somewhere!

22:19 <Skaya> "Yes, yes. It's not like I'm omniscient," Skaya agrees, picking up the sealed metal vial.
22:19 <•Kotono> "Let's get to it," Rina agrees, rolling up her proverbial sleeves.

22:22 <•Kotono> It's a lot of searching and it's not quick. It turns into a longer, more methodical matter, minutes and minutes searching. Ten, twenty, thirty. It's to close to three quarters of an hour that you're near the end - and that's when you find something. Sitting underneath some broken wood is a belt. Solid, plain leather. Sensible looking, and completely untouched by cold, time or the ravages of

22:22 — Skaya raises the belt above her head with both arms as if it took a long battle!
22:23 <•Kotono> Anne sits back, scuffed up and smiling. "Finally!"
22:23 <•Kotono> "It took long enough,"Rina drops some stones and dusts her hands off.
22:23 <Devar> Devar will go over to identify it for Skaya!
22:23 <•Kotono> "Devar, could you?" Sanda asks, "I thinkt he odds are that's it, but.."
22:24 <Devar> "It sure better not just be a regular belt!" Devar says.
22:29 <•Kotono> OOC: Updated.
22:31 <Devar> "It is most assuredly not a regular belt." Devar says as he explains what it can do. "It should be really handy to deal with slippery places."
22:32 <Skaya> "It'd be really useful here! Also! Not bad!" Skaya cheers, putting the belt on over her clothing.
22:32 <•Kotono> Immediately Skaya's footing is stable, solid and secure. Like she's on normal ground and not ice.
22:33 <•Kotono> "That's one down," Rina says as she rests, "Still have that cloak to find."
22:33 <•Kotono> "Hopefully the dragon's gone by now, but I dread our return," Anne remarks, "If it has the ability to set a trap or the patience to wait..."
22:33 <Skaya> "Maybe Miss Snowflakes will be happy once we show her we took down Auril's knight and show us where to find it?"
22:34 <•Kotono> Sanda goes to answer...next time! OOC: We ran over so let's go ahead and pause there with y'all treasured up.
<Steph> I might have made a terrible mistake

Corwin

19:21 <•Kotono> "Statistically speaking, I doubt we're that lucky." Sanda retorts "But we can find out."
19:21 <Devar> "Well, we also have the 'exit' in the ruined cathedral." Devar says. "If it opens, anyway. It might lead us to a way we can get around?"
19:22 <Skaya> "I think you've been lucky with the cathedral doors, so lead on," Skaya offers Devar.
19:24 <Devar> Devar nods and leads them back two rooms to the ruined cathedral, and will go to see if the doors that should lead 'out' actually 1) work and 2) do that!
19:26 <•Kotono> The door indeed works. It leads out - as if you were exiting the Temple of Mystra above. The town is completely frozen over, to the point that ice encased corpses are flash frozen in place, looks of shock and alarm on their faces. As if a day in the life was frozen in ice, like a bug in amber.
19:27 — Skaya shares that shock and alarm on her own face.
19:27 <•Kotono> After a few long moments Rina looks away awhile Anne murmurs, "At this point, I wonder if this strange thing has some grudge against Dareslan, or if the vortex of current events influences it."
19:28 <Devar> "...Hm." Devar squints at the scene in front of them, a frown as he looks around. "We hadn't run into any actual people in any of the other versions really, so I am not sure if this is where we started or not."
19:28 <•Kotono> Sanda takes a few steps away, "What-" she says, as cold winds blow through the streets. The sky is cloudy and dark, almost nightlike despite that it's not nighttime.
19:30 <Skaya> "Stepping out here will probably be more dangerous than facing off against the dragon. Want to go for it anyway?"
19:30 <•Kotono> "It can't be. We haven't been gone so long as to have this happen," Anne says with quiet confidence, "Let alone th fact it's summer."
19:31 <Devar> "I'd say we should explore, at least." Devar offers. "If it gets dangerous we can retreat back here."
19:32 <Skaya> "Then let's pick a direction and go. If this is the Temple of Mystra, what else is good to visit? Devar and Anne, you've been here the longest."

19:35 <Devar> "Hmm, let's go to where the High Reeve kept himself." Devar says.
19:38 <•Kotono> A sensible plan, perhaps. You head out. It's cold, frozen and dull. No signs of battle, no signs of plague. Only some great moment of shock, and then the embrace of ice. Horses, people, dogs, cats. All flash frozen in place and entomed. You reach the High Reeve's abode, and like the other buildings, is entomed in ice.
19:39 <Skaya> Getting in through the window might be easier, so Skaya searches for one where she can break through the ice and glass to enter the residence.
19:41 <•Kotono> Checking about, you see the ice is at the least a solid foot through, thick and strong. It won't be easy.
19:42 <Devar> "I can help, at least." Devar says, taking out Treant's Wrath. "If we want to just go the direct route that way." Devar does do a quick check from the air to see if the ice is any less thick on the roof - or if it seems any easier to get in that way.
19:43 <Skaya> It can't be helped. Skaya tries to break through it. If Devar finds a better spot, she can just go there instead later.
19:45 <•Kotono> The ice on top is thicker in general. More accumulated.
19:46 <•Kotono> A few punches don't do much. It's going to take heavy firepower to break through this, looks like.
19:46 <Devar> Devar lands next to Skaya. "I'm ready to try and break through if you are." He says.
19:47 <Skaya> Her punches are magical! And she can throw a great deal of them in a short time! Skaya makes enough space for Devar to coordinate with her before starting on that task.
19:49 <Devar> Devar will take some swings with his equally magical warhammer!
19:52 <•Kotono> OOC: Is that the adamantine one?
19:52 <Devar> OOC: No, I think I gave that back - this one is just Treant's Wrath, the +1 warhammer
19:54 <•Kotono> WHAM! WHAM! WHAM! It's not doing much, either. The ice is harder than either of you would expect, tough enough to shrug off blows like this. Sanda hms, "So, logically, that's iron ice or some such?"
19:54 <•Kotono> "Iron ice?" Anne echos her.
19:54 <•Kotono> "Harder than usual ice. Improved ice?" Sanda offers back, a little frown, "Enchanted ice? Stone ice? Fortress frost?"
19:55 <Skaya> "Is it actually enchanted, Miss Mage?"
19:55 <•Kotono> "Fire bait. It's fire bait," Rina pipes up, "Hard or not, ice melts to heat."
19:55 <•Kotono> Sanda waves a hand and chants, "Ah!"S he cries, reeling back and slipping, falling in a heap. Rina dashes to her, a little slip-slide to tend to her. "Ah...ah...magic! MAgic everywhere! Strong magic!"
19:56 <Skaya> "What sort?"
19:57 <Devar> "It's that powerful?" Devar asks, going over to help Sanda back up. He could detect it the same as she is but if it had that sort of overwhelming impact he's probably better off not doing so.
20:01 <•Kotono> roll 1d20+12
20:01 <Kobot> Kotono rolled 1d20+12 --> [ 1d20=4 ]{16}
20:02 <•Kotono> "I'm not sure. It's like trying to look at the sun," Sanda says, "It doesn't work."
20:02 <Skaya> "If it's that strong, let's leave. We'll be helpless if even a fraction of this magic triggers."
20:02 <•Kotono> Once up, Sanda then adds, "I'm not sure whatever this may be is worth it, statistically speaking. WIth that much magic means something powerful."
20:03 <•Kotono> "Exactly," For once Anne agrees completely with Sanda, "Leave this nightmare to be a nightmare."
20:03 <Devar> "Yes, I agree. If there was somewhere not covered in this extreme ice then maybe we could go that way, but let's just head back." Devar says.
20:04 — Skaya leads the way to the Temple of Mystra.
20:11 <•Kotono> roll 1d100
20:11 <Kobot> Kotono rolled 1d100 --> [ 1d100=100 ]{100}
20:11 <•Kotono> roll 1d100 oh boy
20:11 <Kobot> Kotono rolled 1d100 oh boy --> [ 1d100=74 ]{74}
20:12 <•Kotono> As you begin to walk back, the wind picks up, starting to speed up.
20:13 — Skaya grabs Rina and Sanda while calling over to Devar, "Bring Anne with you!" And then she dashes for the temple!
20:15 <Devar> Devar does just that and takes off, slightly off the ground to fly with her!
20:17 <•Kotono> "Ah!" Anne cries out as she's grabbed and the party takes off, going fast over difficult ground, flight and belt enough to prevent disaster. At least for now anyway, as both of you hurry on and...OOC: Movement speedS? Matters here.
20:17 <Devar> OOC: 50ft with good manuverability
20:17 <Skaya> OOC: 60ft for me, and I can run easily over all this ice
20:21 <•Kotono> Raw speed. The winds pick up, and your eturn to the temple fast. Just fast enough that there's still an opening there to go through, much of the doorway back in now covered in ice. It's inching closed by the moment, though.
20:22 — Skaya tosses Rina, then Sanda through it before leaping inside herself! She should be slightly ahead of Devar, so he'll be able to enter after her.
20:22 <Devar> "Hold on!" Devar says, turning his best to keep Anne as protected as possible as he flies himself through the doorway!
20:26 <•Kotono> OOC: Ref save, Devar, since you and Anne are last.
20:26 <Devar> roll 1d20+11
20:26 <Kobot> Devar rolled 1d20+11 --> [ 1d20=14 ]{25}
20:26 <Devar> OOC: I don't think it matters here but he does also have evasion
20:27 <•Kotono> Woosh! The two of you make it through just in time, all the party safely through as the ice seals the way entirely. Safe! Your'e back in the ruined cathedral. "Shut the doors," Rina's scrambling up, "Shut them!"
20:28 — Skaya shuts the doors!
20:29 <•Kotono> The heavy doors are closed, slamming shut with a thunderous clang. No more sign of the ice thankfully, hopefully that enough to stop any encroachments.
20:29 <Devar> Devar lets out a breath as he skids to a stop inside, setting Anne down. "You all right?" He asks, making sure she didn't get hit with anything. "I guess we brave the dragon then, I don't think there were any other alternative ways out of here."
20:29 <Skaya> "It... it occurs to me," she says, trying to regulate her trembling voice, "that the Crystalwind Cloak... well... wasn't it supposedly protecting against arctic winds?"
20:30 <•Kotono> Sanda hugs Skaya, holding onto her as mucha s anything else. "I-I'm alive." Anne responds meanwhile, as Rina breaths heavily. "The dragon's better than that. Whatever that is."
20:31 <•Kotono> "Yeah. Yeah." Rina says slowly, "Maybe we should've had it there. I don't know."
20:31 <Skaya> "We'll need to give up on the cloak," Skaya mutters, hugging Sanda back.
20:31 <Devar> "Let's not give up just yet." Devar says. "There's plenty of the other frozen place to explore."
20:32 <•Kotono> "Maybe that's a sign. We're meddling in something we don't understand," Anne goes on, "All for treasure. Valuable treasure, but is the risk still worth it, after that? A growing, seemingly intelligent winter? The winds and frost of winter writ as a menace?"
20:33 <Skaya> "It's not just for riches, though. Anne, one of those treasures is something Sanda and I promised to find for Miss Cerine in Mellanics. It would be a massive improvement in her quality of life."
20:34 <•Kotono> "No, I-I think Devar's right. We can still get more and we need this sterngth," Rina says, "And that as well."
20:34 <•Kotono> *strength
20:34 <Devar> "I think if there were some looming threat that the Starre here would've mentioned it." Devar says. "I think this place is just... maybe it's just closer to the center of this distortion? That would explain why the magic was so strong."
20:35 <Skaya> "It's possible the Maelstrom is not just one place, but any instance of Dareslan," Skaya says to that. "So maybe there was a way to reach the center here as well."
20:38 <Devar> "That makes sense." Devar says with a nod. He'll start to head back, ensuring they haven't missed an extra exit anywhere as they go.
20:41 <•Kotono> roll 1d100
20:41 <Kobot> Kotono rolled 1d100 --> [ 1d100=52 ]{52}
20:41 <•Kotono> OOC: Just for my own reference, Perception since you're looking, Devar. +2 bonus.
20:42 <Devar> OOC: Take 10 for 20, then
20:46 <•Kotono> Nothing that you missed. The party returns back. The frozen cathedral is silent now, no signs of dragon disturbances. Perhaps a mercy, perhaps a trap, who can say?
20:47 <Devar> Devar will go to the door they took to get back inside and slowly open it to take a peek outside.
20:47 <Skaya> "Where to from here?" Skaya asks. "We can keep on exploring, aim for one of the blue water spots, or even return for now. I really want to see if that monster in the fire realm collapsed from its own weight."
20:50 <•Kotono> Devar cracks the door and peeks out. All he can see is a dragon's open maw, ready to spew frigid ice.
20:50 <Devar> Devar will try and close it!! ...quietly.
20:50 <•Kotono> "I'm inclined to do everything here at once and be done with it," Rina says, "In case the elemental at the front gives us trouble witha nythinge else we gain elsewhere."
20:51 <•Kotono> The door closes as Anne is looking Devar's way and freezes. The door quietly closes without frozen death blasting Devar.
20:52 <Devar> "So." Devar says. "The dragon is outside." He explains. "Open mouth right at the door. ...Which begs a question of how long it's been sitting there waiting... but, still."
20:52 — Skaya checks the other door outside.
20:53 <•Kotono> The door seems jammed and does not open.
20:54 — Skaya looks for a window nearby to see if the coast is clear.
20:54 <•Kotono> "The dragon is outside." Anne echos, "I see."
20:54 <•Kotono> Skaya peeks out a window. The way seems to be clear.
20:54 <Devar> "The thing is... why didn't it just come inside and ambush us that way?" Devar asks. "Can it not actually enter this place?"
20:58 <•Kotono> "That's a really good question," Sanda says, "I wonder why?"
20:58 <•Kotono> "It used flight and aerial mobility," Rina points out, "A building negatest hose advantages."
20:58 <Skaya> "The elemental at the front," Skaya muses. "What if we run towards him? Maybe the dragon won't chase us. Or maybe that elemental will stop it, since it liked us."
20:58 <•Kotono> Sanda blink-blinks, "Oh. That's good sense."
20:59 <Devar> "We can try it. It doesn't seem to be able to fly as well as you'd think, so we should be able to outrun it. I can be a distraction if need be." Devar says.
20:59 <•Kotono> "EIther's worth a try," Anne says at length, "Sometimes discretion is the truest part of valor."
21:00 <Skaya> "Let's try to get the stuck doors open and sneak away. Maybe it'll figure there's no benefit in fighting with that elemental and we leave in peace."
21:00 <Skaya> Having said that, Skaya decides to see if she can apply some grease and perhaps work on the winches to allow the doors to open silently.
21:03 <•Kotono> OOC: Give me the relevant roll or take 10/20?
21:04 <Skaya> roll 1d20+14 DD
21:04 <Kobot> Skaya rolled 1d20+14 DD --> [ 1d20=7 ]{21}
21:05 <•Kotono> It's doable with some work, sure.
21:06 — Skaya takes her time to make it work before opening the door silently and slipping outside. Even if the dragon is actually on top of the cathedral and what Devar and Anne saw is an illusion, she should be fleet of foot enough to avoid any attack.
21:07 <•Kotono> Skaya steps out. Besides the light snowfall, nothing is happening here right now.
21:07 — Skaya waves the others over as she leads the way towards cover! And then, towards the exit for this place!
21:09 <•Kotono> Quietly and with great haste, the party hurries back whencethey came, and...
21:09 <•Kotono> roll 1d100
21:09 <Kobot> Kotono rolled 1d100 --> [ 1d100=47 ]{47}
21:09 <•Kotono> Not a sign of trouble this time. Merely the same elemental as before, standing the same guard.
21:10 <Skaya> "Hello again," Skaya greets him. "We're thinking of beating up some enemies in the city consumed by fire. Is that okay if we do that and then return again?"
21:12 <•Kotono> "You
21:12 <•Kotono> "You're back, little human," The elemental croons, "Welcome back. And now you want to go beat up fire? That's adorable."
21:13 <Devar> "We wouldn't mind killing that dragon either, if that's anything you're allowed to help with." Devar says.
21:14 <Skaya> "We ended up fighting this undead ice knight that hated Eldath, but the ice dragon is too strong for us," Skaya admits. "If we gain a bit more experience fighting over at the fire side, maybe we'll do better!"
21:15 <•Kotono> "Go on, have fun," One large finger pats Skaya's head a few times, "It's a great way for something cold to get stronger."
21:16 <•Kotono> Anne struggles not to smile, hiding it behind her hand.
21:16 <Skaya> "Thanks!" And Skaya leads the way back! But before going to the fire city, she decides to take stock of their options. Wasn't there a city of acid and a city of disease, too?
21:19 <Devar> "If we go all the way back to the start of this, we encountered that muddy room." Devar says. "And technically the city I ran into when I explored the canal backwards, too."
21:22 <Skaya> "Could that be the warm water?"
21:22 <•Kotono> "We have options," Anne agrees,a s...OOC: Okay, still got some stuff going on so let's pause this here. I'll try a nd run long on Tuesday to make up for it a bit, plus for the week off coming up since Thanksgiving weekend.
<Steph> I might have made a terrible mistake
