So, today I was late for work.

Then my car decided not to start.   Call AAA.

Get it started.  Result: hey, you should take your battery to get charged.

Take it to a mechanic.  "Yeah, get charged?  This battery is dying.  It's way past standard lifespan."

Take it to more reputable mechanic: "Yup, that was right.  Also, Lots-Of-Money". "I am tired with dealing with this problem.  I will tolerate your obnoxious markup because I do not want a surprise in my engine."

So yeah, morning also not awesome.

I imagine a lot of people don't know that car batteries only have an estimated lifespan of 6 years or so.  After that point, they get far less reliable.

Spent all day yesterday trying to get rid of a mean piece of maleware. It slowed my computer to a crawl, disabled all of my antivirus sftware, hid all my icons, rerouted .exe files, changed a bunch of setting, and kept blocking attempts to get rid of it.

I would have formatted the whole thing but I can't find my boot disc. -_-

Fortunately, looks like I managed to get rid of it.

Malware's brutal.  To be honest, you can never really be sure....

If it were an option for you, I'd say take your OS disk and attach it to another system -- scan it when it's not active.  Makes it a lot easier to get rid of those things.

Anyway -- if you're not free of it, lemme know if you need an install disk.  I can probably help you out.

For me:


An employee in another department is still trying to push the idea of having me collect performance data instead of functionality data.  He even set it up to look like a standard qual.  Except that phase one is testing the new hardware out on systems we don't manufacture or sell.  He decided that since I always countered his proposals by pointing out that it'd slow me down (and that I'd be doing his job), he'd ask my boss directly.

My boss is now very unhappy that I've e-mailed him back to say, "#2 takes a week.  #1 is Guy's job, so he'll have to tell us how long it takes him."

It's 3:00 AM and I couldn't figure out what to do with my insomnia ... so I went to work.
