It's been seven and a half years now. I don't miss Brian in the sense that I feel it, but at this point it's more an intellectual sense that he should be here. Like a solid part of things is missing in action and due back any day, but that day never comes. It's an emptiness that I struggle to really explain, that sense that some fundamental fact of how SR should be is wrong.

Loss is felt in different ways.  When you share things, or look at gatherings where there's a clear gap.
Well, Goodbye.

Anastasia

Yeah, there is. Best we can do is keep remembering him.

I think of him any time Haruhi pops up in my view.

I never cared for the anime and I had zero interest to watch it in its entirety. Brian, on the other hand, always seemed very involved in its fandom.

Now any time someone chats about the show, or it pops up in media/streaming, or as a purchase recommendation, I think about him.
<Cidward> God willing, we'll all meet in Buttquest 2: The Quest for More Butts.

Anastasia

Yeah, same here, particularly when I come on a Haruhi fanfic. That's an instant trip back for me.

Those nights with a gap in your sleep suck. I was up for a good two hours there.

Question for childhood me: Why did you decide to follow a football team destined for 30 years of futility?

I'm gonna guess nobody told childhood you about Gambler's Fallacy. =p

Ah man, little physical nusiances have been driving me nuts this weekend.
Well, Goodbye.

Childhood me was clearly deprived of important information of all kinds.

Fell asleep hard at 8 30, slept straight through until 3 30 AM. Ugh. Sleep cycle wrecked.

My Taichi Sifu wakes up at 4:30 AM and I envy him.

That is a good complaint to have.

It's bittersweet to come back to a writing project abandoned a long time ago (or, really, any kind of project) and actually make some progress. I'll post it to Writing Section for old times' sake then try to see if I can upload at least part1 to Spacebattles or Sufficientvelocity or something around Christmas time.

On the one hand I see what I've learned since then, on the other hand I think... how much time has passed...

(999th post; I mentioned I might post something for the 1000th so here goes)
That the dead tree with its scattered fruit, a thousand times may live....

It is but at the same time, I've found that time can be more effective for progress than anything else.

I'd suggest more than SB/SV. It's easy for original fiction to get lost in the noise there.
