Samurai7 is the lastest Gonzo flick.  I think it's gonzo anyway.  Anyhow, it is a modern take on an old famous Japanese film by the name of The Seven Samurai.  Yeah, very creative and all.  It basically was built with the idea of saying: Hey, if we take this and add mecha and cool art, it'd be awesome.

The reality falls far short of it.  While the series starts reasonably strong, it starts to lag about 6-7 episodes in, suffering tremendously as it tries to make the plot work.  Occassional funny elements tend to detract from the cool more than augment it.  The sword fights, which begin pretty niftily, swiftly sort of fade out, getting lamer as the series goes along.  Characters do actions that really don't make any god damn sense at all in context of the new world ("I know, I'll block a giant bullet with my little sword!") and really the whole mecha bandit thing gets into the realm of stupidity rather than coolness.

Basically, a mediocre series which occassionally has pretty art.  There's better ways to spend several hours of your life.

If you're really interested, go see the original.  It no doubt has to be better than this.

This seems to imply that you haven't seen the Seven Samurai.  If you haven't, by all means, go watch it.  Just make sure you have the next couple of hours free before you do, because while it's good, it's also very long.

Dracos

That's correct. =)

One day.

Bah!

Watch the Magnificent Seven. It's an altogether better telling of the story.

Of course, I like westerns so take what I say with a grain of salt.

^_^

Hey, nothing wrong with a good Western.

The obvious solution is that Drac should watch both, and tell us which he liked better. ^_^
