Guh.  I'm ashamed to admit that I was following this series - anime and manga - for a brief spell....  -_-;;

It does have some interesting and colorful characters, and it was rather nice to watch Sena develop his skills as time went on since that follows a classic sports anime theme where you watch a novice player tap previously unknown potential that allows him to grow stronger as the series goes.

The same type of theme can be found in other series like Whistle!, Hajime no Ippo, among many others.

While that is all well and good, what I absolutely HATED about the series is how uninformed they are about the freaking subject that they're covering.  I mean, you'd think that people writing about American football would, you know, RESEARCH about American football until they knew the ins and outs of the game involving procedures and the like.

*sigh*

A football tee on an extra point attempt?  Guh.  You use a bloody holder to catch and place the ball on the ground for the kicker to put it through the upright.  Sheesh.

One example (in the anime), but one that just got me to look at the series in a lesser light.  Being an actual sports fan that struck me with a feeling of "Qua?".  It soured the watching experience because the persisten cloud of "lame" hung over it thereafter.

Looking beyond that though, it did have some positives.  I found the training trip they took across the U.S. (which I read in the manga) to be pretty cool.  It bonded the team and it was an opportunity to power-up some of the peons on the team (the "Huh?" brothers specifically).

Would I recommend this series?  Meh.  If it so floats your boat, I guess.  I might give the manga a try over the anime, to be honest.
Liddo-kun: Bjorn is the rain gutter in which all the dirty thoughts of humanity flow into?
Bjorn: I prefer, instead, to think of myself as the crap that blocks the rain gutters, causing the dirty thoughts of humanity to back up, fill the streets, and flood your basements.

Well I do like it myself but more for the characters than anything else. Despite living with a huge American Football fan I've always been relatively indifferent to the sport so I wouldn't spot errors and so on.

That being said it is rather pathetic that a show about American Football sponsored by the NFL itself doesn't seem to demand a bit more attention to detail. If I were the NFL I would be ashamed to know that such ignorance, based on what you've said since I really wouldn't notice these types of things, is being spread.

In the end I'll keep watching. When it comes to the game stuff itself I'll just pretend this is some AU version of the sport the series focuses on.

The sad thing though is I shouldn't have to pretend. -_-;
