Quote from: "thepanda"You know, I never thought of that. Arika being from the black valley would be  straight out of left field. Though you'd then have to wonder how they got the gem.

Well, the Black Valley soldiers did almost immediately confront Rena after she sent the child off. They could've easily intercepted the baby and taken the jewel.

thepanda

But if they had gotten hold of the baby why wouldn't they simply have gotten rid of her (Nina, in your scenario)?

Maybe they wouldn't have killed her because she wasn't the actual princess or maybe they did think she was the actual princess and wanted her captured instead of killed (and later on she was rescued by Sergei, which would in a way tie in with another of Nina's flashbacks).

Well I just finished watching episode 8 raw and it would appear that the "problem" has been dealt with. Guess I was wrong about that. Still I'd say it's for the best anyway. Afterall if the "problem" had not been resolved the way it was it would've just ended up feeling like a cheap unearned you know what.

Edit: After reading a detailed summary of episode 8 it would appear that the "problem" has not been completely dealt with. I won't go into the details but suffice it to say I wasn't quite as wrong as I first thought. I'd say more but it would be best to see for people to see for themselves.

Second Edit: After watching Doremi-Otome's sub of episode 8 it would appear beyond doubt that, at least in regards to the "contract", it's there to stay for the time being. Suffice it to say simply removing the "gems" does not nullify a Meister level "contract" based upon what is currently known.

Just finished watching episode 9 raw and I enjoyed it immensely. Arika has earned her place in the Bad Cooks Hall of Fame. ^^;

On a decidedly different note am I the only one who finds next time previews tend to ruin perfectly good cliffhangers? I mean seriously what's the point of building up tension if you're just going to provide the answer right away. Now how is this related to the episode you ask... well when you see the end of the episode itself and then the next time preview you'll see how it corresponds. Anyways enough prattle. Erstin for the WIN! @_@

...Too bad she's probably going to inevitably be offed. I hope I'm wrong though. Erstin's too cute to die! ;_;

I doubt she'll die.

I know EXACTLY what you mean by the next episode preview ruining a cliffhanger. Although, for this episode at least, it added some incentive to download the next episode as soon as possible. What can I say? I'm a fanboi. ^_^

The real question is who messed with their little tracking device bracelet things? Some people keep saying it was John Smith because

1.) He shows up just before that scene, and

2.) they think the hands are manly.

I disagree with this school of thought. First, the color of the sleeves don't match up. Second, if you look at the figure's out line you can see a certain someone's trademark hairstyle. I'm thinking Tomoe the Jealous Otome has struck again!

Dark Midori for the WIN! @_@

Now we just need Flame Otome to appear along with Akira and Takumi. Hell I really want to see Akira appear. We need a Kunoichi Otome damn it!@_@

If it wasn't Tomoe it was definitely one of her lackeys. I think though that this will be the wake up call Arika needs to make it clear that there are people deliberately trying to ruin her chances.

Oh and on a decidedly different note Erstin and Arika looked really cute together. I certainly wouldn't object to the two of them becoming more than friends. ^^;

Well I've seen episode 9 subbed now, Doremi-Otome's version, and I find myself really worried about Erstin's future. She gets bitten by a snake and tries to claim it isn't a problem. She specifically sites the fact that Yohko-sensei has stated that the nanomachines within them will dispel poisonous substances and yet she's clearly succumbing to the effects of something that shouldn't be affecting her. Here's the exact quote Erstin herself...

"It's okay. Didn't Yohko-sensei say? Poisonous substances will be dispelled from the body by the nanomachines."

Now it's possible the fansubbers translated it wrong but assuming they did not this definitely doesn't bode well for Erstin's future. Afterall there's only one reason, based upon what is currently known, why the nanomachines wouldn't be dealing with the poison inside of her body. Suffice it to say I highly doubt the snake that bit her filled her with a type of venom capable of eluding the nanomachines systems.

I really hope I'm wrong but the fact that the nanomachines aren't dealing with the poison, what they found out in episode 8 concerning an Otome's potential role, Erstin's comments to Arika regarding the fact that her dream is not to become an Otome, and suffice it to say I think her days are numbered. At the very least as an Otome anyway.

Saw episode 10 raw.

Firstly, Haruka is love. <3

Secondly,

GAAAAAAAAKUUUUUUUUUUUTENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOUUUUUUU!

Midori easily steals the 'most awesome' prize from Shizuru.

Shuten

Well I've seen episode 10 raw and based on it so far it would seem that Erstin is fine however I'm still somewhat up in the air about it. Currently from what we know, based on DOREMI-OTOME's version, she shouldn't have been affected by the poison at all and yet she was. As of current I can see three possible paths, independant of each other, that could resolve the situation.

    1) "The translation was wrong."

    The way it was phrased suggests that all poisonous substances are dealt with by the nanomachines. However if the proper translation, I'm guessing here so take this with a grain of salt, phrased it in a way to suggest that most poisonous substances will be dealt with then that leaves open a possible explanation that doesn't require Erstin to lose her Otome status.

    Currently I think this is the most probable explanation as well as the most likely path.

    2) "The translation was right A."

    The nanomachines failed due to being destroyed by "male fluids". Basically Erstin had sex at some point between the events of episode 8 & 9. If this is the reason than the heads of Guarderobe could use the "hike" as a means of allowing Erstin to save face. The hike, since it is used as a means of elimination, provides the perfect excuse. In short they could simply take her aside, tell her they know that she had sex, and make it clear they will use the "hike" to remove her but if she attempts to contest it they'll reveal the true reason.

    This is the second most likely path in my opinion.

    3) "The translation was right B."

    In this scenario the nanomachines are working properly. Essentially the way they "expel poisonous substances" from the body is by placing the Otome into a feverish state to promote the body's sweat glands into action. Essentially the nanomachines use the girl's sweat to remove the poisonous substances from the body. Simply put the nanomachines temporarily make the Otome sick to make her better in the end.

    This path is the least likely path.

Ultimately I'm hoping that either explanation 1 or 3 is the correct one.

Now on a decidedly different note Midori once again proves that the My Otome interpretations of the My HiME characters are all vastly superior. Even GakutenOu's summoning was vastly cooler than it's My HiME counterpart ever was. In my opinion anyway.

Of course episode 11 will apparently see the return of Takumi and of course with his return it's only a matter of time before "She" returns.

I can't agree with that. The Otome personalities that we 'mark out' for aren't nearly as great if you haven't first watched HiME. Maybe it is just me, but they ride a lot on what people remember about their previous incarnations to fill in the gaps where they haven't done a whole lot of character developement. For example, the ShizuruxNatsuki scenes, minus the HiME context, don't come across very strongly on their own. The comedic elements fall flat because no one would get the joke. I can honestly understand when people say 'what's the big deal? So they're (probably) lesbians. So what?'

Seriously, take away all the HiME context on just Natsuki alone and see what you have left. You have the set up for a potentially great character, but on its own Otome has just to fully realise any of its character's potential.

Thankfully we aren't even halfway through the show. They certainly have the time to grow.

Shuten

Good points. Perhaps it would be better to say that My HiME provides a solid foundation from which a potentially better product, My Otome,  looks to be emerging as opposed to just saying that they're simply better on their own. I will concede that point.  I will also agree that My Otome is also more enjoyable if you've seen My HiME completely first. However my comments regarding GakutenOu remain unchanged. In my opinion the "My Otome Version" summoning was far superior to the "My HiME Version" summoning. ^^

A fourth possibility for Erstin's condition:

We didn't actually see the snake that bit her, as far as I can remember. Perhaps there was some kind of foul play, with something the nanomachines can't deal with?

This,  this, and this clearly say otherwise.

I must have been as blind as hell in that episode.

Never mind.
