I've just watched the first episode of this and I have to say that this season is looking up.

Say what you will about the previous show's ending, the studio knows how to grab you by the bojangles with their intro episodes. They've managed to squeeze a ton of fan service (not of the panty shot variety, mind) for those who enjoyed the previous season. There are many familiar faces popping up.

The battles are, once again, tops. This time, however, it seems they're going to be pushing the envelope. The previous season took place in a (mostly) rural-seeming environment; this season the meat of the ation will hopefully take place in this big, beautiful city. They've never been shy about the collateral damage, and if the first episode is any indication they'll keep that tradition.

I haven't seen enough of the new main to get a real feel for her yet, but she shows promise. She's not Mai with a new face, thankfully. I'd have been a bit mad if they'd just cloned Mai and called her a new character.

That being said, I hope Mai shows up again. Maybe as a main baddy this time around. You know the baddies get to kick ass in this series.

The only problem I had was the ending. The music was tolerable (it will probably grow on me after a few more listens) but the visual was bleh. Its like they didn't even try.

Regardless, the show itself shows a great deal of promise. Here's hoping it manages to pace itself like the latter half of the first show.

Mai will definitely be showing up... Hell "Flame Otome" is Mai. The character designer, Hirokazu Hisayuki , himself confirmed it on his blog.

Heh, I loved episode 2. Arika-chan's hair is so versatile. Shiho was an amusing re-introduction as well.
<Cidward> God willing, we'll all meet in Buttquest 2: The Quest for More Butts.

Just finished rewatching the third episode. The pacing of this season feels a bit off. I think they're using the assumed knowledge off the previous series as too much of a crutch.

Nina and Arika (and a few new or undeveloped-in-the-previous-series characters) should have had a few more episodes to build this universe up to stand on its own.

THe fight was nice, but given that the two mains are still rather one dimensional a lot of the tension just isn't coming across.

I hope they fix this soon.

Ok, watched Doremi's version of episode 7.

Firstly, Myu. That's all I really need to say.

Secondly, we seem to finally be going somewhere. I know, people say that HiME didn't really start until episode 8 and that this series is mirroring that approach, but at least in HiME there was a consistant  'monster of the day' format that kept the plot moving along.

The plot is starting to really form now, too. The big question at the moment being 'who is the real princess?' My money is on Nina being the princess, Arika being Rena's daughter, and Mashiro ending up with Nagi, maybe. That or she actually is a princess, only there were two instead of the one? There isn't any evidence for that last suggestion, but who knows? Anyway, nice to see it moving along.

Shuten

Mashiro with Nagi?

Come on. I mean she's a brat and all but she doesn't deserve that. Nagi has villian written all over him if you ask me or manipulative bastard if nothing else. Besides episode 7 goes a long way towards moving Mashiro past being nothing more than a shallow brat.

As for the battles I like the way it's going so far. Give me occasional battles that kick ass than repeated run of the mill monster of the week crap. As for the pacing of the show I think it's just fine and I love the rivalries that are being set up.

Oh and Nao = Win. No question.

Not to mention Mikoto and (I think) a quick shot of Fumi.

This will most likely be the case, though I think there's also the possibility that the writer's are misdirecting us and that Nina is actually Rena's daughter with Mashiro being the actual princess while Arika was sent (maybe with her not realizing this) by the Black Valley (meaning her 'grandmother' is most likely Midori).

Yes, I really could see it happening.

Manipulative bastard definately, but I don't really think he's the villian. Not yet, anyway.

She's not as shallow, true, but she's still a brat. However, I expect she'll grow out of it as the show continues.

No question, indeed. ^_^

I liked Mikoto's little cameo followed by Mashiro's "Where were you all this time?" when cat-Mikoto shows back up.

You know, I never thought of that. Arika being from the black valley would be  straight out of left field. Though you'd then have to wonder how they got the gem.

Oh I'm not saying it couldn't. I just hope that it doesn't. ^^;

Oh he's definitely not officially a villian yet but I just have this feeling... ^^;

No argument here.

Heh.

Anyways something tells me that Mashiro and Arika are going to be spending much more time together in the near future whether they like it or not. ^^;

Ranma_007

"It's your job to find a way out of this contract!"

Shuten

Quote from: "Ranma_007""It's your job to find a way out of this contract!"

True Mashiro did say that but the fact remains that impulsive decisions made on the spur of the moment rarely go without consequences besides...

"If you truly want to become an Otome, you better think hard about whom you want to protect. Because once you make the contract..." - Sergei

Now he doesn't get the chance to finish before Arika runs off but I'll bet he would've made it clearly that the contract was unbreakable.

Corals and even Pearls clearly have safeguards which prevent full contracts from being made. However ones of the level of Blue Sky Sapphire more than likely do not. Afterall it is most likely expected that once an Otome reaches the level where she would qualify to be a Meister she fully understands the consequences of her choices and is willing to accept them.

Shuten
