A pretty interesting series (for those who have yet to give it a shot) that's at least worth an old college try.

I'm trying to think back about 40 something episodes to the first handful of episodes, and I think it was a bit slow moving at the very start, but there was  just enough "nifty keen" factor to it where you'd be willing to stick it out for a bit longer.

Mecha designs were interesting, not wholly spectacular, but it gets pluses for utilizing creative ideas.  Giant robots on surf/skateboard-type vehicle platforms was new, at least for me.  It at least got a "Huh..." out of me, which is better than "Uh..." or "Guh..." I suppose.

There's a lot of puzzles floating around in this story, and drama, which doesn't originally present itself.  The first few episodes lulls you into thinking it's going to be a pretty vanilla robot series then the plot opens up and you're introduced to something... bigger.

You follow the adventures of Renton (the main character) and watch as his simplistic/naive view of the world is expanded by events that occur after an encounter with a mysterious girl named Eureka.  His isolated and smalltown life with his grandfather comes to a fiery and explosive end thanks to the persuing military forces, and a rainbow colored path opens up to lead him to something more.

The story putters along and it's around episode... oh, 16~18, that the story veers off the simple path and nosedives into a complex cloudbank.  After contact with a phenomenon known as a Coralian the episode gave me an Evangelion flashback that made my left eye twitch.  I blame the overdose of Agent Anno I was exposed to as a small lad.

I'd suggest giving it a look-see.  It's at least different, in some aspects, and there are some very good episodes scattered along during the ride.  I just have to say that Ray and Charles are my favorite characters in the supporting/cameo character category.
