Seriously... what the fuck is up with these people?  Since when has art been defined so restrictively that we say "If you try to appeal to lots of people, you're not doing art!"

And it's something else coming from mr. "I do things cuz they're crazy shit" himself.

Honestly, I'm having a hard time getting a reading on this; he kind of jumps back and forth a couple times.  He says they're not art - "it's something of a service" - but then says that delivering that service via videogame is a form of art.  Then later he goes into the interactivity thing, saying it's not art if it's interactive - using a very confusing analogy in the process; I'd figure that concept cars are closer to design documents than art - but then describes game design as running the museum, and "create the art that's displayed in the museum."

Two thoughts.  One, he's possibly saying, in a very roundabout, excessively wordy way, that games can contain art without actually being art.  Two, the more likely possibility, in my opinion, is that the man is batshit loco and confuses people into thinking he's a more capable director than he really is.

Of course, he ruined Snatcher in the game's final 40 minutes.  It'll be a while before I ease my suspicions of him  :P

Well, truthfully, I find him funny because really, outside of extremely experimental art, no where else would you find tolerance for shit like he pulls.  Go to an accountant and talk about making tax books that play mind games with the user's head and see how far you get.

But beyond that...  his definition of art is insanely stupid.  Artists don't want everyone to love their art?  Where the heck do you get that?  No one says "Ah, this painting is genius, only one person in a thousand will ever look at it and find it interesting".  They, in general, want renown for their works.  To reach people with their thoughts and awe and amaze.  If popular made not things art, than we'd be in more trouble than I'd like to consider.
