"The thing is," she says around a drink of her tea, "Is that it doesn't really seem to fit at first. I mean, mostly White Glow is known for purifications. This case seems to show none of that, at least on the surface."

Diane leans forward, her head in her hands. "Of course, it could merely be showing different powers, of if he was the decentdent of Marcus Aurelius..."

<Yuthirin> Afina, giant parasitic rainbow space whale.
<IronDragoon> I mean, why not?

Carthrat

"Or perhaps they are seperate entities, linked in some way."

Carthrat stretches. "It's as good a lead as any. Even though he was torn apart by a mob, he is likely to have a tomb somewhere.. most Roman noblemen did, if I remember correctly. If the artifact was a cloak or other item of clothing, it is feasible he was killed and buried while wearing it.

Unfortunately, tombraiding is somewhat distasteful. But my view is that he probably dosn't need it any more.."

Anastasia

"Very much so," she says as you discuss the distastefulness of tombraiding. "It's not something Selena will likely be thrilled about...I would like to leave that as a last resort.

Also, it is not like tombraiders are uncommon, and it's been nearly 2000 years."

Carthrat

"Tombraiders weren't uncommon during the 20th century, but we've moved on. Most tombs have been pilfered as it is.

What we CAN do, perhaps, is trace this guy's decendants and see if we can find out anything else about it. Could happen."

Carthrat tries to remember if the book said anything about a child..
[19:14] <Annerose> Aww, mouth not outpacing brain after all?

Anastasia

It did not mention any lovers or children.

"Perhaps so," Diane says simply.

Carthrat

"Well, what do you suggest? I can spend a week chasing leads, but anything can happen in a week."

Diane hmms to herself.

"Well, I have a few favors I'm calling in for information on this White Glow. With any luck, one of them will give us a lead within a day.

Further, I want to cast an Augury tonight. The odds of it working with a artifact in question are low, but I cannot think of any other ideas. The information I found in my books merely mention alleged incidences of White Glow."

Carthrat

"Right, then. If nothing comes up, I'll keep searching the library.."

Carthrat grumbles to himself. The library is not his favourite place..

Anastasia

"Yes..." she says. "Do you want to be around for the Augury? Truthfully, having the seeker of the object in question might not hurt the spell's chances."

Carthrat

"Of course. I'm most interested in the results."

Carthrat nods, and awaits..

You finish the meal and are promptly herded in a small van. Diane mentions that the Augury site is outside the city, so you go off driving.

You make the post of the two hour drive by falling asleep, the short sleep of the last night catching up to you...

When you are woken by Rachel shaking your shoulder, you can't recall but the faintest shards of what you believe was a dream best left forgotten...the way your hands are shaking tells you that.

It is a small, well lit manor house on the outskirts of London. It is well maintained, with Victorian style decor.

"Hey, Carthrat," Rachel whispers to you as you get out of the van, "You should be on guard...this is a shared house for varios clerical groups to conduct auguries and other spells free of interference.

Diane already set this up, but...there is a chance a random cleric could see you and assume the worst."

Carthrat

"Wonderful," grumbled Carthrat, resting a hand on his stun-loaded Tach. Disrupter, and looking for a defensible position.

You see a few trees and the like that could be used as you walk to the front steps.

Diane walks ahead of you, knocking once on the wide, engraved wooden door. It opens to her, revealing a nice foyer, with more doors than you care to count.

Diane leads you through a door on the right, then through a hallway, then into a side door...You soon find your sense of spatial relations breaking down, as you take all manner of doors, staircases and passages. The engineer in you is saying that there is no way the house you saw on the outside could contain all this...

Finally, you end up in front of a plain looking door, which opens to reveal an open air, grassy hill in the confines of a large room. At the top of the hill is a altar of glass and wood.

"Carthrat, go ahead and stay by the door. Your presence in the room should be enough." Diane says as she begins to walk up the hill.

Carthrat nods, not particularly awed.

It was just a magical version of N-space folding.. or singularity generation-control field.. or AVINT-4 dynamics.. or sOMETHING..

Heading to the door, he keeps one hand on the T.D..

Rachel and Diane climb the hill, one on each side of the altar.  Diane takes a vial out of her pocket and spreads the liquid inside of it all around and on the altar, Rachel doing the same with another vial.

Once that is completed, Rachel steps away from the altar and Diane begins to chant in a low, musical voice that travels the entire room better than any shout could.

"Selena, Goddess of Living and Life, your servant has come seeking. Great Goddess, respond to the beeseechings of the Tongue of Holy and peal away the mists. Show your servant the holy artifact White Glow, oh Goddess...save the one known as Carthrat..."

At the last word, Diane stands ramrod straight for a moment, then falls to her knees. Rachel walks over without any visible concern, helping her stand up.

"Well, it worked," Diane says through a tired grin as she stumbles back to you. "I got something."
