Corwin

"Princess?" Miaka asks Rin, confused.
<Steph> I might have made a terrible mistake

kpjam

Rin looks shamefaced.  "Sorry.  Lafiel.  She isn't really a princess, except for the way her father treated her."

"Ah," Miaka responds intelligently. "I just... I don't see how this could happen. Zaphiel had so many soldiers, and the magic users...." She shakes her head.

Carthrat

"Magic is only as useful as the distance between you and your enemy," notes Daggedal. "That aside, I'm sure that the invaders had the element of surprise. You can't cast a spell with a knife in your back."
[19:14] <Annerose> Aww, mouth not outpacing brain after all?
[19:14] <Candide> My brain caught up

Rin clears his throat.  "The main aspect of the jewel that was pocketed had was in providing a magical barrier against outside forces.  Once it was removed, teleporting, and sending in magical attacks was made possible.  I assume that the bulk of the troops in the barracks were killed without warning.  As it is, Zaphiel had enacted certain warnings for intruders, which gave those of us stationed in the castle some time to act, but not nearly enough."

"Cleary. This was done very professionally," notes Daggedal. "Any idea who might have lead the attack in particular?"

Figment

Stowing his pistol, Devon looks at the bodies laying about, trying to determine if any of them are still alive.

EDIT: Damned tenses. >_<

kpjam

Rin sighs.  "That would require more information than we currently have."

Devon walks up to and examines the four motionless bodies.   He quickly determines that the one O'karn hit over the head is still breathing, if faintly and erratically.

"We have no information," notes Daggedal, sighing. "I'm going to find the ogre. I doubt he'll care enough to come, though, unless you have stocks of money previous unknown."

Rin quirks his head.  "The treasury is downstairs.  It belongs to Lafiel now," he says while shifting his gaze towards the form still impaled upon the throne.

"I'm going to wait for Lafiel.  I'll be on the balcony right up the stairs if you have need of me."  So saying, he walks from the room.

Dracos

O'karn grinned, checking to make sure no one was getting up besides Devon and cleaning and retrieving his blades swiftly.  "It appears someone wanted to make off with the treasure.  Is that human alive?"

Dracos
Well, Goodbye.

Figment

"Yes," Devon replies while searching the unconcious man. "Though, from the look of him, he won't be waking up for awhile."

kpjam

Devon's search reveals a small-dulled blade, barely adequate for cutting fruit with, poor fitting and worn clothing, and a small bag containing a few small bronze coins.

"Good, he can be a guide.  Let's take these downstairs and hunt to see if there are any others."

O'karn easily lifts a couple of the chests, hauling back towards the main room.
