Or was it madness in parody?  Anyhow, Excel Saga is technically the story of Excel, a bouncy cute hyperactive young woman in her twenties who does odd jobs and lives in an apartment complex alongside her real job as a member of the idealistic organization of ACROSS!  There she is the incredibly devouted only officer under the command of Il Pallazo(sp).  Along the way she picks up some various friends, enemies, sidekicks, most notably Hyatt, the even more fanservicy "always dying" girl, and Pedro, the most unlucky man in the world.  Yes, there are a lot more characters but at the moment, those are the only ones I care to mention! ^_^

Anyhow, the real jist is that this series is parody of the highest order.  It starts off introducing the characters in the first ep but then proceeds to change the genre of the show every episode following it.  More impressively, they don't give up anything introduced.  Any and every plot device introduced in any of the episodes is considered canon for future episodes and generally will reappear.  It's pretty darn good in the beginning, lags in the middle a bit (still funny but)... and really shines in the last four eps.  Definitely fun to watch though it costs 4 sanity points.
