As youg et closer, hugging the sea line, you can notice that it's quiet. Less animals, less noise, less everything. At this rate you should reach the outpost at about 3 PM or so, it's just before noon now.

[19:27] <Seira> "Don't look at the pictures," Seira tells Alicia. "Also, some of the magic might still be around. Overall, a nasty place, however." She looks as if she had just bitten into something unpleasant. "They abused prisoners at this outpost."

[19:29] <Kotono> "Torture?" Commander OBeruth asks after a pause. "Or worse?"
[19:31] <Seira> "What I learned there caused me to think that obliterating the gnomes might have been justified."
[19:32] <Alicia> "I don't think I've heard a single good thing about them since I joined you," Alicia notes, shaking her head.
[19:32] <Kotono> "...then let's keep going," Oberuth says with a heavy grunt. "We'll see soon enough in any case."
[19:32] * Alicia nods silently as she presses on.
[19:35] <Kotono> As you travel on you head along closer and closer. It becomse eerily silent, not even the wind stirring. There is a stillness to the air that almost speaks of staleness, overpowering. The road near it is close to the forest edge, as you slowly continue on. Soon you'll reach the coast, and then it's just a walk to the hill where the gnomish fortress is.
[19:38] <Alicia> "This feels unnatural," Alicia cannot help but observe as she looks around to see if evil itself stains the air hereabouts.
[19:39] <Seira> "It does feel a bit like another place that connects to other realms aside from our own," Seira agrees.
[19:41] <Alicia> "There's something over there, just in the forest," Alicia quickly points towards the nearby treeline, muttering a prayer of protection under her breath.

[19:49] <Alicia> "It's retreating, shall we pursue?" Alicia asks, already starting her horse forward after it.

[19:51] <Kotono> "AGreed, plus if it's a scout for them...we'll lose any element of surprise!" With that Oberuth spurts his own horse on, the two plunging into the woods!  It's fairly thick here, slowing down progress a bit. OOC - Initiatives, I think, I'll describe the situation further after.

[19:00] <Kotono> The magic dies on it's lips as Alicia and Oberuth strike at once! Struck down by two swords it crumples, hissing sulphuric steam as it's body collapses!
[19:02] * Alicia whips her sword to the side to flick the ichor off it and glares contemptously down at the expiring demon. "Back to the pit, horrible beast," she sniffs.
[19:03] <Seira> "The pretty devil is gone, I see," Seira comments, approaching. "Let's head for the ruins?"
[19:04] <Kotono> "One down," Oberuth slams it's sword into it's chest one last time, ripping it out and kneelnig to clean the blade. "Was this it, or was it just some sort of vanguard?"
[19:04] <Seira> "He didn't rant about corruption devils, so it's a safe bet he was a vanguard. Or a regular guard."
[19:04] * Alicia nods, keeping her senses attuned to evil. "I apologise for my tardiness. Given how it retreated so swiftly, I'd assume it was a lookout - fortunately we made sure it never reported our approach, but it confirms that we'll find more trouble the further we go."
[19:05] <Seira> "I can act as our scout, then. Let's use Message to stay i touch?"
[19:06] * Alicia nods and murmurs a brief spell before pointing to Seira and Obureth...

[19:08] <Kotono> "It's fine." Oberuth smiles slightly at Seira, "Both fo you are more familiar withthis field work, so lead on."

[19:09] * Alicia takes a moment to tie the horses to nearby trees so they don't wander off before she follows the captain!

[19:13] <Kotono> This goes slower - the woods thicken for a bit. The unnatural silence makes things a strange interlude of utter quiet. After about an hour Seira's advance path leads her to a small clearing. Here, the trees around it are splattered with blood. Lying here are dozens and dozens of animal corpses. Deers, rabbits, ducks, rats and more all lie there, savagely torn apart, the leavings left here in a grotesque gesture.
[19:15] * Seira reports her findings quietly, her lips moving even as no sound comes out. After staying long enough to make sure nothing is in the clearing, she proceeds, giving it a wide berth.

[19:17] * Alicia keeps an eye out for any traces of evil as she follows Seira at a steady pace, giving a brief affirmative response to Seira's report so she knows they're still following.

[19:21] <Kotono> As Seira searches she finds bloody, large cat like paw prints on the ground. With claws that are several inches long and tear into the ground, one can suspect that is no nomral creature.

[19:23] <Kotono> Looking to Alicia, "Damnations. Any idea what would do that?"

[19:23] <Alicia> "We'll wait till you're done searching - tell us when you want us to follow," Alicia mouths back, not wanting to compromise stealth by blundering right into where Seira is. Turning back to Obureth she shrugs, "At a guess, I'd say some sort of fiendish big cat. I'm not an expert on demonology, sadly."
[19:25] * Seira decides to stick around and focus on the tracks, at Alicia's words, and see where they lead to and from.
[19:27] <Kotono> As she begins to track, she sees that the trail leads onward. The tracks quickly fade, but they seem to have been heading in the rough directly of the gnomish outpost.
[19:28] <Seira> "It returned to the outpost. Or was summoned there. Either way, our goal remains unchanged. Still, be on the lookout for any devils."

[19:28] <Alicia> "Right behind you," Alicia assures Seira as she resumes her trek.
[19:32] <Kotono> The trip continues on! As youg et closer and closer, the air becomes warmer. Warm and silent, the ground starting to get harder. Trees are less vibrant, leaves dying. About a half hour away...OOC - Make another move silently check, Sei-ra.

[19:35] * Seira finds the closest bit of secure cover at the edge of the hill, and observes the area thoroughly, much like with the previous clearing, while waiting for her companions to arrive.
[19:37] <Kotono> As they close in? Seira peeks out! HEre, in the diarming sunlight, you see the devils! Ringing the base of the hill must be at least four dozen fleshy lemures, forming a good ring around it's base. Higher on the hill, there are four devils with nasty beards and glaives, standing around the entrance into the dome, cracked and opened not so long ago by Seira and friends.  Four more of those bearded beasts walk just behind the lemures, keeping a

[19:40] * Seira reports this to the others, before suggesting that she summons a great storm of icy fury to whittle down the mindless devil foot soldiers and wound their four minders once Alicia and Oberuth arrive.
[19:41] <Alicia> "Up to you, I'm afraid I don't have any good area spells," Alicia replies, before turning to Obureth, "Sir, if you like, I can enlarge you to giant size before we enter combat. It's a good way to negate the advantage of their polearms, and you'll be stronger, albeit a bigger target."
[19:42] <Kotono> Commander OBeruth peeks out, before scowling. "That's a squadron of them? I assume the ugly ones with the polearms are the bigger threat?"

It is nearly ten feet tall and massive - it's body is covered with thin, almost plastic like yellow skin, donig more to highlight it's bones than anything else. It's face is ferel and with a sharp nose, vicious bone claws and a horrible mouth. Behind it come two more bearded devils, following with heads bowed.

[20:04] <Seira> "What now?" Seira asks as they retreat, holding onto her invisibility for the time being. "Retreat to Balmuria, warn the peasants to come along with us and abandon their farms, then return with a sizeable force?"
[20:05] <Kotono> Despite his pain, "Do you think if we rest and recover we can triumph tomorrow? I don't know to what extent they have reinforcement capacities."
[20:06] <Seira> "We have a devil-smiting hammer back home," Seira responds. "And no serious ability to recover, here."
[20:07] <Kotono> "...dammit! I forgot that thing entirely." Commander Oberuth swears with distinct feeling behind it.
[20:07] <Seira> "Yes, well." Seira shrugs, now fully visible. "They shouldn't expect us to retreat, I think, so let's keep them guessing."
[20:08] <Alicia> "They may be able to summon limitless numbers through the magic portal, or it may have severe limitations on use," Alicia seems unsure. "But Seira is right, we are both wounded, and have little in the way of healing. Another battle like that one could be the end of us if we're not fully recovered."
[20:08] <Seira> "Also. That stupid devil dropped a name. I believe I have the face to match that name. I should be able to find out whether we have any listing on him, and an estimate on his forces or weaknesses."
[20:10] <Kotono> "Then let's go," Commander Oberuth agrees himself.
[20:12] <Seira> "By tomorrow, I should be able to supply two of us with faster horses. That would allow us to summon help all the faster," Seira comments.
[20:12] <Alicia> "They may redouble their guard, knowing they've been discovered, though," Alicia points out. "If you two return to gather a stronger force, I could stay behind and harry their forces, hopefully making them believe we're still nearby and making them commit forces to searching, and give the rest of you an idea what to expect when you return," she offers, not liking the idea of leaving devils unmonitored in the countryside.
[20:13] * Seira frowns. "I would have better chances of surviving this mission, though that does not say much. Are you certain?"
[20:16] <Alicia> "These creatures are an abomination against all that is good in the world," Alicia frowns, "I don't want to leave them alone." Putting on a confident smile, she adds, "Besides, I have your scroll of invisibility if I really get in over my head. I mainly plan on making feints to keep them off balance, however - I could meet with you back where we left the horses in 5 days?"
[20:17] <Kotono> "Five or six," OBeruth muses. "Alicia...can you be certain you'll be safe?" So asking, "I won't let you do this unless you truly believe you have a good chance of surviving."
[20:17] <Seira> "In that case, I will return ahead of the reinforcements," Seira says, still frowning. "I believe this is a bad idea, but it's your call."
[20:19] <Alicia> "I have no intention of making a glorious charge into their midst," the female knight assures them both. "I'll move around a lot far away from the hill and occassionally move closer to snipe at them and deal with any targets of opportunity that present themselves. I fully believe this is the best way to prevent them managing a coordinated defence when we arrive with a stronger force."

[20:20] <Alicia> "I might need to borrow some of your rations," Alicia admits with slight embarrassment.
[20:22] <Seira> "She already has that scroll of invisibility... what else...." Seira considers. "These elixirs, to conceal you for an hour. Very expensive, and an ace for a tought spot for me, please don't use them unless you have to. Scrolls of Grease and Backbiter, which could come in handy. A pendant that can summon a mount, in a pinch."
[20:24] * Alicia accepts all the items offered. "I'll try not to use them unless I have to... although the mount might prove a useful distraction, if necessary," she muses.
[20:25] <Kotono> "Then good luck," Commander Oberuth smiles a moment despite his pain, "We'll come with all we have and a devil smiting hammer."
[20:26] <Alicia> "I'll come with you halfway back to the horses," Alicia replies. "I don't want to rest too near to the devils, and I won't be attacking them again today."

[20:34] * Alicia moves north through the forest for about a mile or so unless she sees a nice looking hiding/camping spot. If none are found, she pretty much stops where she is and collapses against a nearby tree to spend the remainder of the day resting.

[19:41] <Seira> "I'm glad we contributed to chaos at your home," Seira tells him. "How are they coming over?"
[19:43] <Kotono> "If I tell you?" The Bearded Devil growls at Seira.
[19:44] <Seira> "Who's armed and fresh and with reinforcements coming, and who cried out like a bitch when I threw a pebble at him? Let's keep perspective, here." Seira frowns. "Tell me all I need to know, there is nothing else to it."
[19:45] <Kotono> The devil growls again, "...the old portal was stirred recently. It's barely active on our end, enough to force a few through here. One of the old parts of a pact, I hear."
[19:46] <Seira> "How many at a time? How much of a delay between trips?"
[19:48] <Kotono> "It was enough for one at first - one of the special devils. A Corruption Devil, a hybrid of a Barbed Devil. Then it was primed enough for a big force to come through at once and it's still recovering from that."
[19:48] <Seira> "How long before another force like that could be sent?"
[19:49] <Kotono> "I don't know," It admits, "I can tell you how to stop it..." it offers.
[19:49] <Seira> "Is the Corruption Devil dead for good, at least?" Seira asks, sounding both curious and annoyed.
[19:50] <Kotono> "Heh, heh..." Laughing darkly, "I don't know. There's some ooze below, but it never came from from it's first mission."
[19:50] <Seira> "Do you have more forces on Prime beyond those patroling the area?"
[19:51] <Kotono> "This isa ll for our force. As for others.." With a sick grin, "It's like a chance at the Prime all over again. With so much chaos in Baator, who wouldn't consider this a perfectly timed opportunity?"
[19:52] <Seira> "Smart devils that hate to be on the losing side?" Seira muses. "How many factions are expected to vie for this prime piece of realestate?"
[19:56] <Kotono> "It's hard to say...everything's messy right now. At least a few would be interested..." IT allows after a moment.
[19:56] <Seira> "Would they come out at this end, or can they appear literally anywhere?"
[19:59] <Kotono> "They need a portal...one other stirred, but..." Looking on, "It's not acceptable for whatever reason, I don't know. This one, while needing work and being unstable...can work."
[19:59] * Seira nods to herself. "Tell me all you know about the Pact," she then demands. "I'll be sure to let you know if you're lying, so you could start over."
[20:00] <Kotono> The devil stares ahead, "I don't know. It's something to do with the Prime before it was closed off."
[20:01] <Seira> "With Daa-vid, no doubt," Seira says, as if musing, while she looks for any reaction.
[20:04] <Kotono> The devil stares on, waiting. It's face stays creepy and angry and sickly amused.
[20:06] <Seira> "I guess all I care about, now, are two things. Why did the stupid Corruption Devil target me, specifically? And how do we close this portal for good?"

[20:09] <Kotono> "I don't know, but..." Grinning sickly, "Lord Kurlaack said that the human city of Balmuria was very important. One of the most important in the world."
[20:10] <Seira> "I feel special," Seira says flatly. "Now, since you're genuflecting and all, about the portal and how we seal it?"
[20:11] <Kotono> "Smash it. It's barely intact." Coughing a moment, "It won't take much to ruin it...the rocks that fell on it already damaged it."
[20:12] <Seira> "I knew we should've charged it back then," Seira mutters to herself, even as the words to a Haste spell quietly find themselves to her lips. "Anything else you would like to share with me, now that you are so emasculated and talkative?"
[20:13] <Kotono> Glaring in Seira's direction, the Bearded Devil is silent fornow.
[20:13] * Seira just shoots three arrows in succession at him in response from her perch up in a tree.

[20:16] <Seira> "Would you believe I heard it all before?" she asks him, gently floating down to his level. Making sure he really is dead with another arrow, she takes off back towards Donald's body, redirecting Pollyanna towards it.
[20:17] <Kotono> The two meet there after some time. They find a third there - Commander Oberuth rests besides him, having covered the poor lad's eyes. His hamemr rests just away from him, the Commander moderately wounded. As Seira approaches, heshakes his head.
[20:19] <Seira> "I'll Reincarnate him," Seira tells the Commander curtly. "Sir, where is Sh--" She shakes her head. "Alicia. Is she alright?"
[20:19] <Kotono> Commender Oberuth points towards the dome, "That way, she chased after a hellcat, but I lost them."
[20:20] * Seira hands the Commander a potion of cure serious wounds. "Please smash the portal at all costs, Sir. That would seal it for good." And with that, she takes off at her top speed, taking to the air in the indicated direction.
[20:22] <Kotono> "I will!" Oberuth calls as Seira takes off! OOC - Can you track?
[20:22] <Seira> OOC: I have Detect Magic on, and can look at the area from the air? Plus Message if all else fails, to ask directions.
