Games I wanna try running

In no particular order. I'll keep this updated whenever I think of new stuff that sounds cool. No promises for running anything. Could also substitutes 'games' with 'fanfics' and 'running' with 'writing'? Mystery. Lots of urban fantasy. Mixing and matching is surely possible in some circumstances.

-Nasuverse. I could list all three games here, but the fact is that I really liked running this style of game when I did it before. And I really want to try again at some point. Canon characters? New characters? Replaying from the start, in the future, the past? Almost anything is possible here.

-Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica My-Hime Magical Girl-themed game. Madoka and Hime and assorted other shows have thoroughly broken the genre in half. I've always liked the themes of power coming with both responsibility and a host of unknowns. and I guess I'm becoming more partial to beautiful yuri

-A Journey from the River Styx. You're dead! And you wake up with partial amnesia at the bed of the river styx. Is this a punishment? Who were you, really, and why are you here? A dangerous quest in what appears to be the afterlife, facing things you can't understand and for reasons you can't explain. Players would write partial backstories and leave in gaps to be filled.

-Crisis at the Memory Bank. In the future, people can upload their minds and jump from body to body. But as a result, the value of physical life is slowly dwindling. For the security forces responsible for protecting the massive databases that house humanity's collective consciousness, a struggle against hi-tech terrorists awaits- even as they wrestle with just what, exactly, is really worth defending in a world where everything is digital, and replaceable- even souls. Old-school cyberpunk and giant mainframes await!

-Mayoral Mecha! The FATE OF THE WORLD hangs in the balance, and giant robots are being used to settle the score. But each robot contains a world of it's own, and only by ensuring that world's good health can the mecha fight at optimal capacity. Elections, sabotage and city-wrecking combat combine in the genre mashup of the decade!

Which of these interest you in particular?
<Afina> Imagine a tiny pixie boot stamping on a devil's face.
<Afina> Forever.

<Yuthirin> Afina, giant parasitic rainbow space whale.
<IronDragoon> I mean, why not?

I can't deny that the Madoka OST has put me in the mood for magical girls lately.

I could actually run similarly-themed games in a gender-neutral form; it's all about power being thrust upon people and them being forced to use it. Still, the girl aspect heightens certain themes, though; loss of innocence, emotional drama, a powerless being becoming powerful; these are all emphasized a bit more with female characters.

also cute yuri scenes

So we'll have a trio of magical girl games?

This is a thread for cool gaming ideas, dammit!

-Nasuverse. Who on SR doesn't like the idea, anyway? While anything there would be fun, what I want to run is actually Fate, except the PCs are Servants. It seems simple enough, yet I can't recall anyone doing it before. You are prominent, you fight for your ideals and you have the Master's command seals over your head. Conflict resolution would use Amber Diceless, possibly refluffed to match Fate values. It's a great and simplistic system and it would be conductive to RPing and not bog people down.

-Madoka! Shut up, Rat, I'm not copying you. I ran two magical girl games, so it's a safe bet I like the genre. Kyubei is awesome and really deserves more love. I think my approach would rely on Zegapain, which despite ugly CGI really deserves more love. I will now spoil it to those who haven't seen it (which is all of you). It's The Matrix but with mecha and the MC is a GAR swimmer dude. The two series sound like they couldn't possibly work together but they will, oh they will....

-First Age, Exalted. I've long wanted to have a game in a society that is, for all appearances, a perfect utopia. If only to counter all the many games set After The End or in the distant future of After The End. PCs would be Exalts in a society that is quite literally evil and filled to the brim with crazy people, and wouldn't it be fun to be the hero that tries to reform it? Epic social combat! And if you get bored with that, you can go and smack some country down.

-Zombie Apocalypse! Doesn't actually have to be caused by zombies. I'm of the opinion that if the apocalypse comes, zombies will be part of it, so might as well put them there. I've seen plenty of ideas for running a game about an apocalypse breaking out but they rarely even get started. That's a shame, isn't it? I liked Eb's idea about a country in a D&Dish world slowly experiencing this breakdown of magic and society, and something along those lines would probably be best. If it's set in the modern day everyone will be a crazy commando with a stash of weaponry anyway, so might as well set it in medieval fantasy and have the PCs be PCs in a justifiable way.

-Eden of the East. I'm sure plenty of fun anime games can be had, but Eden is awesome because you play Jason Bourne but with actual Rule of Cool in effect. As an agent of a crazy mysterious billionaire you get to have your devoted concierge, Juiz, spend cash on your behalf to save the world (or, at the very least, Japan). When you run out of cash you get killed like a dog. And other agents probably hate you and want you dead since in the end, there can be only one. Of course you don't believe that, being a PC. A vague goal, lots of cash, the imperative to spend it quickly in a cool way... this is totally freestyle since no system cool enough exists to represent it.

-A generational game. It might be fun to explore the game world across time, and I wonder if it could be done by having the players attached to a group of characters such as a family or a clan. The result would be controlling a given person and then playing their child/descendant, while being able to swap to other members of the family as needed. Even should the older characters die, the attachment should still remain since it is to the family as a whole, and you can keep on happily advancing your family's agenda through the generations. It could lead to making a fun legacy.

-An evil game! Drow or fiends, say. A party that doesn't set out to right wrongs and help people, but is basically there out of their own motivations and goals. But, at the same time, they're not a bunch of dicks who just happen to be together. I think it would be really interesting to have said evil characters still care for one another and genuinely be friends rather than use one another as some stepping stone or, at best, an ally.

I actually had specific setting elements in mind, too- I was thinking that ancestors are able to communicate with their descendants, either through dreams or as some sort of spirit advisor. This allows feuds to propagate throughout the ages, as well as your kung-fu/magic/engineering/whatever traditions to be honed perfectly over the ages. (You can't marry her, she's from the Lotus clan! If you do, your grandfather will not instruct you in the Tenfold Cheetah Fish-Snatching Discipline!)

Both of these sound really cool.  First Age exalted is rarely covered, and and trying to prevent the Fall is a neat disaster.

And frankly, building an evil empire, or even just driving off local do-gooders would be a fun twist.  "No, I'm not going to help you.  You went out and killed a bunch of goblins earlier.  Racist.  We're going to burn your bloody town down to the ground."
Well, Goodbye.

-On the flipside of magical girls (It's pretty much the same thing, to be fair), I'd like to run a sentai/tokusatsu game one day.  Not sure on the type of mood/setting I'd go for with it though.

-Unlikely to ever run since I don't think anybody else really plays it (or is willing to admit to it) but...a Yu-gi-oh game! >_> Would just be the typical YGO plot of world domination/destruction/fate hanging on a children's card game and ham-to-ham combat. Could have actual duels over IRC (done it before), maybe PCs get some kind of 'Heart of the Card' ability they can use here and there that increases their chance of drawing card they need to win a duel.

-World conquest. All the PCs are the children of a king and seek to increase the size of his empire, even though none of them are his heir (some might even be bastard children or they could all be legitimate, doesn't really matter). They just want him remembered for all time because he was such a good father to them and a healthy dose of pride. Meanwhile, as the empire expands outwards, back home the heir is starting to get a little antsy and worried about how secure his own position is.
<Cidward> God willing, we'll all meet in Buttquest 2: The Quest for More Butts.

-The Cherion Group knows they exist. Bloodsuckers, lycanthropes, and dozens more unidentified creatures stalk the shadows and leer over humanity, ready to chew and eat their fill. They know. They are rich, they span the first world, and they are powerful. They have chosen to act...

...because supernatural organs happen to be rare and valuable commodities in the pharmaceutical industry, and have already lead to amazing breakthroughs! The vampires could take on the church and the worlds armies; honest cops, distraught mothers and plucky children were no match for them. But can they stop the power of corporate greed, in the form of well-trained, well-supported contractors, armed with the latest and safest technology that the Cherion Group can give them?

Incidentally, if people are actually reading this it would be nice if they delurked and posted and mentioned what games they'd be interested in (and certainly better than mentioning what games they aren't interested in.) I don't generally advertise publically- normally when I have a game in mind I already know who's going to play in it and have plotted it out a bit in my head, so there isn't really a process where I float an open recruitment advert- instead, I go around and poll people to see if they want in. People don't check this board all that much, so.

Basically, if you say there's stuff you want to play here, I'll actually think about it more myself and thus the chance of me actually running it in the future goes up, and I'll know who to consider! Also it's nice to see if there's an active group of people who want games to play in just in general. Talk is cheap~

I'm down for this stuff:

-Nasuverse. Hells. Yes. 'Specially after your 'get a fucked up power that ends up being destructive to you, meet Legendary creatures, fight them, then sleep with them' spiel.

-Also, this: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AdeptusEvangelion: Always down for a Mecha game. Even if it's bio-mecha-god games.

-World conquest. This. Might be a decent spin on a Romance of the Three Kingdoms type game.

Fairly interested in an Exalted game. Never really looked at the books/materials for it, but I've heard enough from people to be interested.

I'd be interested in playing in a magical girl game, but not as a magical girl. I'd be the best damn mascot ever.
This is not the greatest post in the world, no... this is just a tribute.

Dracos

Aren't you already a mascot, Enro-san? :)

Silliness.
Well, Goodbye.

-Back To Your Roots:  A Pathfinder dungeon crawl wrapped in the conceit that you are playing one of those old late-80's D&D games (.  Embarassingly, this is the most successful gaming formula I ever had.  I'd unfortunately need a reasonable grid-system to run it online, since it's really just combat and light puzzle-solving -- but sometimes?  You just want to throw some dice.

...yeah, that's all I got.
I handle other fanfic authors Nanoha-style.  Grit those teeth!  C&C incoming!
