If you want to recruit people you pretty much need to drag them here from other places to play in your game. They're going to come for a person or group, not the site. Because games do not start that often, there are limited opportunities to get new people in- and most of us source players from the present pool as it is. Statistically, a lot of games die, too, along with their players.

Given that most of the actual socializing is done on IRC anyway, SR is probably doomed to be a niche hideout forever...

I *guess* one way to rope people in would be to create a large forum-based game with a premise that holds wide appeal, and then refuse nobody entry after spruiking it on other, more successful websites. You know, the kind where people run multiple characters and nobody is really GMing it, and everything is done by mutual agreement. Does that sound like fun? Write in and tell us now!
