If you want the story in order, read the Bearlove Good Cancer Bad thing from The Oatmeal first, then read all four parts of the Popehat website.  There`s also other stories floating around the internet about the ordeal.

Also, the charity The Oatmeal set up is now over $200,000.

Yeah this kind of nails my issue with character death and a number of other things.  And it's just funny to watch.  17 minutes long though.
I think we live our lives in other people's hearts and minds. Alone by ourselves we're not very much good at all. But when we let someone else in with their stories and all their sights and sounds and songs and smells and sensations, we suddenly start filling our shelves and boxes with books and books of them and building up our libraries.

It's amusing how even in this cyberpunk future that's presumably at least a couple of decades from now, the Moscow Metro is still running grungy old trains made in the 1950s. That strikes me as inherently plausible, even though intellectually I know they've got shiny new trains now:
