[19:56] <Kotono> After several trials and tribulations, Aurora's staff meets. It's the generals, Muirfinn, a rather tired but intact looking Ebony and Elder Magi Tepen. Clearing his throat once, "Morniel won't be here, as he had sudden business in Celestia," he explains, "We're here to sort and plan our next moves in wake of Castle Crumbling. We'll start from there and work our way outwards. FIrst of all, we've
[19:56] <Kotono> received congratulations from several of our allies over the battle. In particular Princess Chan sends warm regards and wishes to meet with us again."
[19:57] <Jaela> "Always a pleasure," Jaela comments.
[19:57] <Afina> "We should do that promptly but we have to take advantage of recent events before we lose the opportunity," Afina speaks up, "By now Abigor will know of the charges against us, and we can expect some chaos in the devil ranks because of it. For how long I can't say, but we need to strike before they can deal with him and reconsolidate under Gathgarion."
[19:58] <Afina> *against him
[20:00] <Muirfinn> "Indeed. With Abigor scrambling for a hill to stand on, and Gathgarion chewing at his heels, the forces will be again divided, like they were on the Burning Aeropolis when we struck. Do we have a target in mind?" Muirfinn says, nodding to himself.
[20:01] <Afina> "I think we have two options," Afina posits, "A strike on Lifasa would give us an immediate boost and be symbolically important - I favour razing the Elven Tree but I'm open to other options. Or we attack Tiamat's own holdings on Hell to make her draw her forces back and leave Hell even worse off for future battles."
[20:02] <Jaela> "I'm with razing that abomination over anything else," Jaela says vehemently, glancing at Tepen. "Did we hear anything from Makaril?"
[20:05] * Muirfinn looks at Afina. "The Elven Tree? I'm not aware of this place, I'm afraid. Could you enlighten me afterward?"
[20:05] <Jaela> "It's a tree with elves hanging from it."
[20:06] <Muirfinn> "...oh." Muirfinn looks disgusted.
[20:06] <Afina> "It used to be the centre of elven culture on Lifasa. Now it's a macabre monument to our defeat."
[20:17] <Kotono> Elder Magi Tepen nods, "We know Tiamat's forces are committed to the Blood War right now," he says, "As such, it is likely that her defenses are thin. However, it's still the domain of a Goddess. Tiamat controls reality within it and a misstep could be total disaster and the rewards of a victory are vast. Alternately, the Elven Tree is more personal and less dangerous. However, it's best not to
[20:17] <Kotono> forget that we've done this before. It's possible the devils have taken steps against another assault."
[20:19] <Jaela> "Which is why I mentioned Makaril," Jaela agrees. "He has agents in their ranks, doesn't he? What does he think about the situation we have here?"
[20:19] <Afina> "Luckily unlike Castle Crumbling we can obtain accurate information through reconaissance and interrogation of abducted devils. And Makaril, yes."
[20:20] <Kotono> Elder Magi Tepen inclines his head forward, "We have Makaril coming in to appraise us shortly," he says, "While we wait on that, there are other matters needing swift attention. Tannin's release is still pending and we need to obtain his freedom."
[20:20] * Afina looks expectantly at Ithea.
[20:20] <Jaela> "We already voted on that, didn't we? What's the hold up there?"
[20:21] <Kotono> Adrian is quiet throughout this, "Was it delayed on account of the Castle Crumbling business?"
[20:22] <Ithea> "Pretty much," Ithea admits.
[20:23] <Kotono> Tepen nods, "That needs to be done sooner than later. We can't leave prisoners languishing when we can free them. Especially in the hands of someone who could potentially pry information from him."
[20:28] <Ithea> "I'll try and set up a meeting with that wizard later today, get Tannin freed before the day's over with any luck."
[20:28] <Afina> "On another note," Afina puts in, "Yesterday I was approached by a demon wishing to form an alliance on behalf of an anonymous patron."
[20:29] <Kotono> "Demons are always trouble," Ebony speaks up, voice with a hint of fatigue but not overwhelmingly so. "Dealing with anonymous patrons that would use a demon is a grave folly."
[20:29] <Jaela> "Do we think that patron is anything but another demon?"
[20:29] <Muirfinn> "Keep in mind that Father is also a demon, and look how well that turned out for all of us."
[20:30] <Kotono> Tepen nods to both and continues as othe rmatters are discussed, "We have several new troop dispatchments. The archons have sent their forces over, the Soothing Wind is increasing their compliment and the lillend are preparing a group. With any further fortune, Princess Chan will also be doing the same." Pausing for a moment, "It would most likely be a demon or some other fiend or creature with
[20:30] <Kotono> ties to chaos, barring something unusually exotic."
[20:30] <Afina> "Yes, I declined on the basis it would jeapordise other alliances," Afina nods, "But I did offer to share information as to times that would be suitable for demon attacks on Avernus that would coincide with our own goals. We've always said it would be useful for our attacks to occur during Blood War engagements so the devils are stretched thin, so this could be a way to accomodate that without
[20:30] <Afina> risking anything further."
[20:31] <Kotono> "That doesn't narrow it down," Gisfal muses, "But it is a good offer...assuming it isn't a ploy. This anonymous patron could be a particularly enterprising devil running a scheme."
[20:31] <Jaela> "Could work. They're attacking Avernus anyway all the time," Jaela agrees with Afina's case. As Tepen speaks up, she grins. "We're getting lots more giants, too, and a more personal gift from them. They like what we're doing."
[20:32] <Kotono> "Oh yes, about those mounts. I'm going to address that later," Tepen nods to Jaela.
[20:32] <Afina> "Could be," Afina nods, "But by sharing time and nothing else we shouldn't risk too much, and we can gauge the veracity after the first sortie."
[20:33] <Kotono> Nodding slightly, "If the devils have a traitor that deep in the demon's ranks, there's little we can to do discern it." Gisfal says, "I'd still like a name to go with it. Far better that we have an idea of what we're dealing with, even if it's a clever yugoloth lie."
[20:35] <Kotono> "Alright," Tepen agrees, "I mentioned before that Morniel had to leave?" he looks about, "Jaela, do you recall talking to Morniel as the celestial contingent was gated in?"
[20:37] <Jaela> "Of course. He said they were having trouble finding a leader and he was being made one temporarily. I told him they should really promote him by now and offered to help this one angel that was too busy to lead those forces since she sounded like she was in a jam. Why, anything come out of it?"
[20:38] <Kotono> "Apparently, one of the powers that be in Celestia was watching over the troops as they arrived. This morning, Morniel received command to return for a promotional evaluation," Elder Magi Tepen replies, "He was quite startled."
[20:39] <Jaela> "Huh. Well, I hope he didn't also see me faint while I donated my blood to bring Finnegan back to life."
[20:40] <Kotono> "He might think you're a blushing waif?" Adrian says with a hint of a smile on his face. "Good for him. I don't know how they judge worthiness for promotions, but Morniel's been working hard for us."
[20:41] <Jaela> "And for their cause as well," Jaela adds, ignoring the rest. "Managing to weave both agendas together deserves the recognition, so good on him."
[20:42] * Muirfinn nods. "He's worked hard, he deserves it."
[20:42] <Kotono> "Moving on," Tepen says, "Makaril should be along shortly. In the meanwhile, the Soothing Wind has offered each of Aurora's command staff their choice of a celestial griffon or a celestial dire lion mount. Do any of you wish to accept this offer?"
[20:43] <Afina> "That would just be awkward for me," Afina shakes her head apologetically.
[20:43] <Jaela> "I like the idea."
[20:43] <Muirfinn> "I do too.
[20:44] <Muirfinn> "
[20:44] <Kotono> "A mount? Couldn't hurt to have. A huge lion?" Adrian whistles, "I'll take one of those. How could I not? Can you imagine riding a fully trained great cat?"
[20:45] <Jaela> Is this going to be another cat joke or riding Ithea joke? Jaela sighs inwardly. "I guess Muirfinn can accept Afina's steed. What else is on for us?"
[20:46] <Kotono> "Which do you want? The sooner we get word back the sooner we can get them," Elder Magi Tepen says to both Jaela and Muirfinn."
[20:46] <Kotono> "Not at all," Adrian says, "Come on. Can you imagine riding a beast like that? That's much more impressive than anothe horse."
[20:47] <Muirfinn> "The griffon would be interesting, I think. A fascinating reature, one I've not had the opportunity to study."
[20:47] <Kotono> "One griffon and one lion," Tepen says, looking at Jaela. Then, "What of you, Ithea? Gisfal?"
[20:47] <Jaela> "Works for me as well."
[20:48] <Kotono> Gisfal shakes his head, "I have no need of a mount," he finally says, "But another dire lion around would be another bit of force at our command. I'll take a dire lion."
[20:49] <Kotono> "Two griffons and two lions," Tepen says, waiting on Ithea with a questioning look.
[20:49] <Ithea> "I'm with Gisfal on the matter, add another lion," Ithea says.
[20:52] <Kotono> "Done," Elder Magi Tepen says. He pauses a moment as through the portal Makaril appears. He looks the same as before, implacably coming to sit. He looks to all once, "Congratulations," is all he says.
[20:53] <Jaela> "Thanks. You're up to date on what we're trying to accomplish?"
[20:53] * Afina nods in acceptance of that. "How is your front developing?"
[20:53] <Muirfinn> "Thank you."
[20:55] <Kotono> "The pressure is off of us," Makaril begins, "The traitors are focusing inward." Here his expression becomes grimmer, "In recent days we have found word that a new ploy is in play. Are any of you familiar with the Order of the Glacial Heart?"
[20:56] * Muirfinn shakes his head.
[20:57] * Afina shakes her head as well.
[20:57] <Kotono> Ebony's attention fully turns to Gisfal, "I am," she says, voice suddenly deathly quiet. "Mephisto's mark of infernal honor. What is he his involvement?"
[20:57] <Kotono> "More unwelcomed news," Grunting, Adrian waves a hand, "Great. How bad is this going to fuck us?"
[20:58] <Afina> "So other Archdevils are supporting Bel now. That is bad news for us," Afina nods grimly. As grimly as she can, anyway.
[20:59] <Kotono> "The Order of the Glacial Heart is Mephistopheles' order of infernal knighthood. It's not quite nobility but it's the next best thing in Cania.  They're known for being utterly impassive and emotionless. They've been assigned squads of elite gelugons and are now guarding important sights. Further, they're outside of Abigor's chain of command. Officially it's for added security in case of 'Lifasan
[20:59] <Kotono> Misdirection'. Unofficially, they're reinforcements we can't budge with distractions."
[20:59] <Kotono> *sites
[21:00] <Jaela> "It was always gonna be this way," Jaela says reasonably. "Did anyone here really delude themselves that however much they hate each other they'd actually let us kick one of their own out and give the Hells a black eye?"
[21:01] * Jaela shakes her head. "That's just retarded. Anyway, how about we raise Afina's suggestion again?"
[21:01] <Afina> "I was proposing a mission to raze the Elven Tree," Afina tells Makaril. "Do you have any useful information about it?"
[21:02] <Jaela> "Or any information about why that would be a bad idea, Mephisto's goons aside?"
[21:02] <Kotono> "Retarded?" Makaril asks quietly. After a moment his attention is on Afina, "Yes. There's a squad lead by a knight of that order there. How much do you know about the Elven Tree?"
[21:03] <Jaela> "Your information is the best and latest, so how about a quick briefing for all of us here?"
[21:03] <Afina> "Just that it was important to the elves and that after the fall the corpses of elves left on Lifasa were hung from it," Afina replies. "It would be a symbolic more than a tactical victory to raze it, but important nonetheless."
[21:06] <Kotono> "The Elven Tree - or the Tree of Corpses as it is sometimes called by the devils - is in Velasca's territory," He begins. "It isn't entirely a symbolic victory if we raze," he goes on, "When Lifasa fell, it is said a hundred thousand empty eyed elven horrors were crucified there. The spiritual resonance of that atrocity lingers."
[21:07] <Jaela> "We'll want to look into some massive consecrate spell, here," Jaela mutters.
[21:08] <Kotono> "In reality," Makaril goes on, "The Elven Tree was burned to ashes during the invasion. However, it came back and now all those crucified elves hang there. It is a miasmic pit of agony, despair and wailing souls. I fear mere fire will not cleanse away that sin."
[21:10] <Afina> "These elven horrors," Afina clarifies, "They are undead? Would they defend the tree, or be set free to wreak havoc if the tree were destroyed?"
[21:12] <Kotono> "They've shown no signs of doing anything but hanging. With that level of spiritual poison, they don't ne ed to do much else," Makaril continues. "The devils can use that pain, suffering and hatred as a weapon."
[21:15] <Afina> "How do they use it?" Afina asks, "Is there someone in command that can direct it, or a site or device to control it? Or is it just an ambient defence?"
[21:15] <Kotono> "If this is a nest of unholy power," Adrian says, "Then I think Jaela's right. Can we counter it with some great quantity of holy power?"
[21:16] * Muirfinn suddenly sits up straighter. "Ah, that reminds me. We all need to talk to Sylvie after this."
[21:17] * Jaela coughs. "Okay. Even if we lack the right spell for this, we might be able to do something with the Aurora itself. There's a way to make the courtyard emanate holy power, so we might be able to spend a couple days into projecting it for a short radius outside. That should be more than enough?"
[21:18] <Kotono> "They can direct it. Unfortunately we aren't clear on how," Makaril says, "Our intelligence isn't that good."
[21:19] <Jaela> "Assuming we move in on it. How soon could you get your own forces ready for an attack to match ours, Makaril?"
[21:21] <Kotono> "Four to seven days," Makaril says, "Even with teleportation we have to be subtle and careful."
[21:22] <Jaela> "What do you think, then? Our first true concentrated strike, their own internal strife and maybe a surprise for all those hanging elves. Sound good?"
[21:23] * Afina nods. "We can run our own reconaissance missions and see if any of the guards can be abducted for interrogation in advance."
[21:25] <Muirfinn> "If they have a means of directing the energy generated by the tree, then there must be a way to shut that means down. If we can do that, we can move large numbers in and...disinfect the place."
[21:27] <Kotono> Makaril nods, "I'm for it," he says quietly.
[21:28] <Jaela> "Then it sounds like we have a plan."
[21:28] <Kotono> "Then we have approximately a week before that," Elder Magi Tepen declares, "Until then, we prepare and accomplish other goals."
[21:30] <Afina> "I have a few other things to take care of," Afina admits, turning to Muirfinn now. "Muirfinn, can I borrow the leaf we found in Castle Crumbling for a bit?"
[21:30] <Jaela> "Oh, right! How did negotiations go?"
[21:33] * Muirfinn removes the leaf from a pouch. "Yes, Afina, but be careful with it. I understand that its affects on fey creatures can be particularily potent. You may find yourself unable to relinquish it."
[21:33] <Jaela> "Want me to hit you if that happens?" Jaela offers.
[21:34] <Afina> "You have my permission," Afina nods. "If no one can hit me then I'll at least make something just as good to make it up to you," she goes on as she takes the leaf, ready to guard her mind against any sudden compulsions!
[21:35] <Jaela> With that out of the way, Jaela looks expectantly at Muirfinn.
[21:35] * Muirfinn turns to Jaela, fishing the ring she gave him out of his pouch as well. "Negotiations went better than expected. There was some internal treachery in the ranks of the Lannark, so I believe they capitulated on a deal they did not initially intend to take." He tosses her the ring and says, "There is one thing that Adrian tentatively agreed to. An ambassadorial trade."
[21:36] <Muirfinn> "Also, the lillend will be sending us a contingent of warriors, led by Vivantha."
[21:36] * Jaela stares at the ring. "You didn't give it away?"
[21:37] <Muirfinn> "I was distracted by the goings on and forgot about it. I'm sure we can present it to them when the contingent arrives, if you like."
[21:37] <Jaela> "Eh, we'll see." She frowns. "So we have a treaty in place, now? With the trecherous invaders?"
[21:38] <Muirfinn> "Binding with curses and woe on any who break the treaty."
[21:38] <Afina> "Mmm... it feels nice but I'm not experiencing any revelations here," Afina says in case anyone cares, holding onto the leaf until the meeting's over so she can let Ilsenine examine it.
[21:39] <Jaela> "Medi-level curses? Or Tepen-like? No offense."
[21:41] <Muirfinn> "Try handing it to someone else." Muirfinn says to Afina. He turns back to Jaela and says, "Something on a level that managed to cause outrage with the Lannark diplomatic crew, at least. I'm sure that Tealua could tell you more. She was in charge of the lillend contingent. She appeared to be quite experienced."
[21:41] <Jaela> "Sure thing, I'll ask then. Oh right. Most important thing. Are the lillends happy?"
[21:41] * Afina dutifully hands the leaf back to Muirfinn without comment.
[21:43] * Muirfinn takes the leaf for a moment before shrugging and handing it back. "Perhaps Ithea mispoke when she told me that it would be very difficult for fey to give it up."
[21:44] <Muirfinn> "As for the lillend, they appeared mostly relieved that they came to an agreement that will prevent war."
[21:44] <Afina> "Well we'll see when a real fey touches it..."
[21:45] <Muirfinn> "Ah, that's right, you are part elemental now." Muirfinn snaps his fingers. "MY apologies, I did not mean to offend."
[21:46] <Muirfinn> "A reminder, we all need to speak with Sylvie today."
[21:46] <Afina> "Oh?" Afina blinks. She had to speak to Sylvie about going to the Far Realm, what does everyone else need her for?
[21:48] <Kotono> OOC: Skip along to that then?
[21:48] <Muirfinn> OOC: Sure
[21:48] <Kotono> Sylvie's found with Balyss and Kascha. The trio are in the library, reading and mildly chatting with each other. "Hm?" Sylvie looks up, "Do you need me for something?"
[21:49] <Jaela> "Apparently."
[21:50] <Muirfinn> "Sylvie, it's time to talk about what we did in Balmuria, since it will involve the generals here." Muirfinn says.
[21:52] <Kotono> "Oh," Sylvie rises and stretches, "Right." Leaving the other two behind quietly, "Have you told them about it yet?"
[21:53] <Muirfinn> "No, not yet. You know where you were going with it, so I figured you could give the best explaination."
[21:54] <Kotono> "As you may know, we went to Balmuria to track down the power involved there. I think I told you all this before, yes?" Sylvie asks.
[21:55] * Afina nods.
[21:59] <Kotono> "To cut a lot of backdrop out, we made contact with the Crimson Guard and did some negotiations and proving of ourselves. We got the attention of the head of the Balmurian Crimson Guard, Commander Hellman Oberuth. He wants to meet with us in a few weeks." Sylvie concludes, "That's the short of it as it stands right now.
[21:59] <Kotono> "
[22:01] * Jaela blinks. "So, uh, why did we absolutely need to see you today if it's only in a few weeks?" She's glancing at Muirfinn curiously.
[22:03] * Muirfinn looks abashed. "Well, I'm sorry. I lost track of time and could not remember if it was in a few weeks or THIS week. I didn't want to miss the day, and I've been irritatingly forgetful lately. I didn't want to forget this, too."
[22:03] <Kotono> "Oh," Sylvie says, "They'll be sending word when he's ready." Sylvie says, "Anything else about it? I'm preparing for a Far Realm trip right now." A glance over at Afina.
[22:04] <Jaela> "Right. Well, call me whenever. If I'm still alive in a couple weeks and all. Oh, Far Realm? Have fun!"
[22:05] <Afina> "I should be ready to go shortly, Sylvie," Afina nods. "We'll get Hanna as well if she's still willing."
[22:05] <Jaela> "Oh, I think Mom's out right now working the evil out of a robe."
[22:05] <Muirfinn> "Far Realm? Do you need assistance?"
<Steph> I might have made a terrible mistake

[20:09] <Kotono> On preparing to move Aurora to Air, Drena is naturally tracked down. He's found with Simmer, the two in a quiet corner of Aurora's courtyard. Several long scrolls driftin the air, covered in diagrams showing fire and wind. Drena's arms are crossed, winds buffeting around as Simmer gestures, "..at. The trick is that if you blow the fire properly, it covers much more. If yo uapply the right amount
[20:09] <Kotono> of pressure..."
[20:10] <Jaela> "Got a moment, Drena?" Jaela calls out. She'd normally wait for him to be done, but discussions like that can take hours upon hours and they'd better get the gating over with.
[20:16] <Kotono> The winds stop, scrolls hovering in midair. Simmer stops as well, "Oh hi," she calls, "Oh Afina! Have you ever thought about high speed winds, air and fire together?"
[20:16] <Kotono> Drena approaches, "I do," he says, "Do you need the power of air?"
[20:17] <Afina> "Firestorm," Afina nods sagely. "But actually we're about to travel to Air, and want to know the best place to put Aurora that's convenient for visiting Lady Chan without being an imposition."
[20:19] <Kotono> "Exactly," Simmer says, all energetic and bubbly, "After the tortles talked Drena's ear off and he mentioned it, I got the best idea about it!"
[20:19] <Kotono> With a faint gust of air Drena replies, "Honored guests that bring mobile dwellings can be provided for," Drena says, "A cloud of semi-solid air to support Aurora can be provided."
[20:20] <Jaela> "Aurora can float on its own," Jaela muses, "but it'd be considerate if devils attack us, since their weapons won't fall endlessly and get lost somewhere."
[20:22] <Afina> "I doubt they'd attack if we were within Chan's desmense. So it's okay if we bring Aurora next to her palace, then?"
[20:23] <Kotono> "The exact distance will require consultation," Drena admits, "A brief diplomatic consultation can deal with this. I can do this as soon as you wish."
[20:24] <Afina> "We'd like to go as soon as possible, so please," Afina asks.
[20:28] <Kotono> Drena rises, "Another time," he blows over to Simmer, "I shall return within an hour or two, barring complications."
[20:29] <Jaela> "Call us in in case of those complications?"
[20:30] <Kotono> OOC: Skip along now?
[20:31] <Afina> OOC: yes
[20:35] <Kotono> It's just about two hours before Drena returns. From there you are set through a portal. You come out not too far from Lady Chan's fortress. The vast, tall spires of translucent air can be seen from Aurora's courtyard. Jaela and Afina meet with Drena, "An escort will be sent along in the hour," Drena reports, as the endless skies of Air expand all above Aurora.
[20:37] * Jaela nods in acknowledgement at him. "Good job, thanks. Should we bring something with us on the visit, you think?"
[20:38] <Afina> "Maybe a trophy from Castle Crumbling?"
[20:39] <Kotono> "Princess Chan has been generous," Drena says, "I would think you are!"
[20:40] * Jaela grins. "It was more of an open invitation to pitch in with a suggestion, really. You know just as well as we do what's in our vault from that assault, so any thoughts here?"
[20:40] <Afina> "Maybe those boots that make one go faster at the expense of their legs?" Afina suggests, thinking they sound most relevant for Air.
[20:41] * Jaela considers this. "You mean for the Princess to research and see if she can't put the theory to good use?"
[20:41] <Afina> "Or just as a curiousity or to give to someone she likes," Afina shrugs, "It's a gift, she can do what she wants with them."
[20:43] <Kotono> "That may be best. There's nothing directly related to Air there," he says. "Perhaps she can find wisdom in them."
[20:43] <Jaela> "Works for me. I'll pick them up and rejoin you, then?"
[20:45] <Afina> "We have an hour. In the meantime would it be a problem to send out some of our soldiers on patrols around Aurora? I think it would be good for some of our newer recruits to get experience in handling themselves on weightless planes," Afina asks Drena.
[20:46] <Kotono> "It will not, as long as they are escorted by air elementals," Drena replies. "Instruct them to declare themselves and fair passage to the winds of Chan should they be challenged."
[20:48] <Afina> "Having air elementals as guides and instructors works anyway. Will the ones from Seira's forces be suitable as well or should I just stick to your contingent?"
[20:49] <Kotono> "Any will be acceptable as long as they are properly instructed," Drena replies again. Crossing his arms with a little gust of wind playing across all of you.
[20:51] <Afina> "I'll go and arrange that, then," Afina says, setting off to pair up groups of Lifasans with air elementals, as well as spreading the word for others who want some experience in flight to join up.
[20:55] <Kotono> Soon enough the boots are gotten, the trio meeting outside Aurora's gate. Here an old familiar face greets you. The vast wind dragon Shinear awaits, the same seats on him as last time.
[20:56] <Jaela> The distance doesn't warrant it, this time around, but Jaela would hardly turn away a familiar face like that.
[20:58] * Afina doesn't shirk the dragon's gaze, but looks carefully for any flinching or revulsion showing thanks to their curse as she approaches him. "Hello again, Shinear," she smiles regardless.
[20:59] <Kotono> In a quiet voice, really no more than a windy whisper, "Would you like to feel speed again?"
[21:00] <Afina> "Always," Afina retorts with firm eagerness, setting herself on the dragon's back with some relief.
[21:01] <Kotono> Drena gets on, following. "Is Gust not here?" he asks.
[21:03] <Kotono> "Gust is elsewhere," Shinear replies, just as quietly. He flaps his wings once everyone is on, "The path of the wind is seldom straight, but instead follows the whims of the zephyr."
[21:12] <Kotono> With that, Shinear takes off! Immediately you are buffetted by great speed, Air all around you whistling by! No noise, no wind - just the endless sensation of speed as Shinear takes off. Such vast speed, as Drena looks forward a few moments - before a sound much like a chuckle comes from his mouth, a gust of wind.
[21:13] * Afina just holds on tight and enjoys the flight, since it likely won't be a long one.
[21:15] * Jaela decides to use the chance to lean over to Drena and ask, "My usual armor or the dress I wore last time?"
[21:16] <Kotono> "It will be fine," He says, "But now hold on. The direction Shinear is going in indicates that he's taking the scenic route."
[21:16] * Afina has no objection when she hears that.
[21:16] * Jaela figures that their hostess wants to show them something. Or just show off, perhaps. Either way is fine with her, given there are no pressing concerns.
[21:19] <Kotono> Shinear goes faster yet, accelerating over the next twenty minutes. A wind begins to be generated - strong and fearsome, smelling of ozone. It blows your hair almost straight back, clothes rumbling ferociously in the wind. As you go, you can see the skies beginning to darken around you.
[21:22] * Afina looks up at the encroaching clouds. Well, scenic in air is mostly clouds... "Can you fly faster than lightning, Shinear?" she whispers, holding on tight.
[21:24] <Kotono> "Yes," Shinear whispers, a moment of quiet but fierce glee. At this you race ahead even further! Lightning begins to flash - but faster than that you go, racing past it, even as the black sky regularly strobes white with massive lightning storms! Then - Shinear weaves to the side and then up, then dips down past more lightning! Drena's starting to smile as he holds on tight, "Skimming the edge
[21:24] <Kotono> of the storms!" he calls, voice battling the fiercer winds, starting to make noise now - yet no thunderclaps, "We're going far faster than thunder now!"
[21:26] <Afina> She'd known he was faster than thunder, but everyone knows you hear the rumble long after you see the lightning. Beating that is the real test.
[21:30] <Kotono> A moment later Shinear does a full roll in the sky, the riders momentarily upside down! It's enough to flip your stomach but you don't fall, and as you find yourselves rightside up again you can see that rain is absolutely pouring around Shinear now! It doesn't fall on you - a sphere around the seats appears, semi visible from the torrents of rain hitting it. As it bounces the raindrops break
[21:30] <Kotono> apart, flashing with the light of hundreds of lightning bolts! They fall all around you, yet Shinear dodges each and every one! Then - Shinear begins to slow. Around you the flashes of lightning gain more definition - they are things that range from the size of children to oversized towers. Creatures of stormclouds and lightning, surrounding Shinear in every direction as he stops. Hundreds of
[21:30] <Kotono> pairs of lightning-flashing eyes stare at the party!
[21:31] * Jaela stares back without blinking. Even elementals can be cowed by that blank stare!
[21:31] <Kotono> OOC: Make an intimidation check, Jaela?
[21:31] <Jaela> roll 1d20+33 okay
[21:31] * Hatbot --> "Jaela rolls 1d20+33 okay and gets 35." [1d20=2]
[21:33] * Afina hardly expects these elementals to attack such luminaries as Shinear and Drena on Air, so she's relatively unconcerned.
[21:36] <Kotono> Under the gaze of the party and Jaela's blank look, the elementals seem momentarily caught off guard! Then in a burst Shinear is moving - fast and faster, out of the storm as it begins to lighten around you! But behind you is a massive flash of white, a huge bolt of lightning following! For several tense moments it comes closer and closer - until at the last moment Shinear accelerates further,
[21:36] <Kotono> leaving it behind and back out into the open blue! Cool air blows across the three, as after a moment you find yourselves in front of Princess Chan's palace, at a firm stop. The massive gates are opening before you.
[21:38] * Afina laughs as she gets up and takes wing. "Scenic... hah!"
[21:38] <Jaela> A smile now replaces that blank look as Jaela shakes her head. "Nice."
[21:39] <Kotono> Quietly and in Sylvan Shinear replies, "When you obtain Wind, return to me," he murmurs to Afina. "Then we will know speed."
[21:40] <Kotono> Drena flies off, "The speed of wind," is all he says, ready to lead the party along.
[21:40] * Jaela follows!
[21:40] <Afina> "I'll look forward to it," Afina affirms before following Jaela.
[21:42] <Kotono> From here you are escorted in and to the anteroom before the throne room. It's not long until you're once again in the Archomental's throne room. Ahead of you, the floor becomes one smooth surface, a gale racing beneath your feet and the solid floor. Ahead of you is a great throne room, hundreds within. Many are barely seen, forces of wind and light molded into a shape. Others are humanoid -
[21:42] <Kotono> some with blue or white skin, others yet with skin the vibrant red and orange of the sunrise and set, tinting into purples as well. Finely dressed lords and ladies all, the wind constantly blowing through their hair. At the back is a throne. At each side of the throne a dragon rests, mammoth in size, yet somehow not overshadowing even the smallest lady. To the throne's left is a dragon that
[21:42] <Kotono> looks to be made of molten silver, chill mists surrounding its form. To the right is a dragon that looks to be sunlight held in form by skin made of wind, as if millions of tiny walls of wind were forged to capture Lathander's glow. Sitting on the throne is a cloud. A cloud that has the faintly formed face of a woman, with a serene smile. A sense of warm peace fills you as you view this, bringing
[21:42] <Kotono> to mind vivid, passing memories and sensations, of being held by a loving mother. As you see this, the wind picks up and howls, "Afina and Jaela of the lost fortress Aurora!"
[21:44] <Afina> Hoping those unfamiliar dragons don't start anything, Afina kneels before the throne. "Princess Chan, it is good to be back before you."
[21:45] * Jaela follows only a breath behind Afina, adding, "It is an honor, Princess Chan."
[21:46] <Kotono> Drena kneels as well, though he stays silent.
[21:49] <Kotono> Her voice comes with wind, smelling of roses after a summer storm. "I offer my congratulations on your strike at Castle Crumbling. The devil Malagon is not unknown to us and we find his defeat pleasing, as is the losses inflicted to the Necrolytes and Animators."
[21:51] <Afina> "Though we were unable to destroy the castle completely, we hope the losses in skilled servants and materials will set back Lixer's work for some time," Afina explains. "To honour our victory and your encouragement for it, we present you with this trophy taken at the end of the battle," she gestures to the boots Jaela holds.
[21:58] <Kotono> The boots rise from Jaela's hands, carried on a puff of air to Chan. She studies them briefly, "One of the works of Sjapa Moonstricken." she declares. "A wizard of great talent and greater madness."
[21:59] <Jaela> "We figured it might have been that, Highness," Jaela voices in agreement. "In this case, it seems the talent greatly outweighs the madness."
[22:08] <Kotono> The boots drift aside, "I am pleased that you accomplished the deed I set forth for you," Princess Chan continues, "You fought to your utmost, and I cannot fault you for Lixer surviving. The spawns of deep darkness are naught but scurrying cockroaches in the wind, forever seeking to escape."
[22:09] * Jaela shares in that regret that Lixer survived, though she comforts herself with the very thought she voices next. "His time will come."
[22:15] <Kotono> "You have proven the strength of your Crusade," Princess Chan continues, "You shall have more soldiers of the Air and sky to aid it."
[22:18] <Afina> "We are grateful for any assistance you can render. And we have not forgotton our obligation to you, Highness," Afina says, not quite mentioning it exactly... just seems strange to talk about breaching Medi's chambers. But they will, eventually.
[22:19] <Jaela> "Thank you, Highness," Jaela echoes. "On our behalf, and on the behalf of the Crusade and Lifasa."
[22:21] <Kotono> "How is the matter of the Crown of the Four Winds proceeding?" Chan asks at that.
[22:22] <Jaela> "Good, actually. We've made progress, which means that we discovered the keys that need to be used. We are now in the process of recruiting the specific people that must be those that use them."
[22:23] <Afina> "Or for that matter training them," Afina adds. "People of incredible power are required, and a large number of them. It's only fortunate that our Crusade requires the same as a matter of course."
[22:23] * Jaela nods at that. "We do have several very good candidates already, yes."
[22:23] <Kotono> "A happy coincidence," Princess Chan says, "Go then, more forces are being prepared for you."
[22:25] <Afina> Accepting the dismissal, Afina rises and retreats from the throne.
[22:26] * Jaela offers the princess a bow after rising, and then retreats herself.
<Steph> I might have made a terrible mistake

[01:39] <Kotono> As Muirfinn takes a little time to prepare in his quarters for the coming tasks, there is a knocking on his door. "Muirfinn," It's the voice of the elder, "May I enter?"
[01:40] <Muirfinn> "Of course." Muirfinn says. "These mammals are rubbing off on you, elder. You know all are welcome in any tortle's home."
[01:43] <Kotono> "Better than stumbling into one of their females without clothes on," The Elder remarks with a wry smile, "They take it as a great indignity, especially if you see those fleshy teats." Coming in, you see he carries a simple burlap sack with him. There's a faint thudding of stones with it. \
[01:45] * Muirfinn snorts. "So I've learned. For such brash creatures, they can be fragile. What've you got there?"
[01:47] <Kotono> "A project I've assigned to several of the more quarrelsome tortles," The elder replies, "When reading old lore in Aurora's library, I came various obscure magical traditions. One of them was called combination magic. Having them forced to work with others about magic that requires cooperation drove the point through rather sharply."
[01:49] <Muirfinn> "I'd hope so." Muirfinn says. "Oh, that reminds me. I've finished that speech. I should be ready to deliver it soon."
[01:53] <Kotono> "Excellent news!" The elder smiles as only a humanoid turtle can, reaching into the bag. He takes out a small stone the size of an apple, perfectly smooth and round. It's the color of polished tortle shell, "We've made three so far and we'd like to offer them to you and Aurora. Hold this one and you'll see."
[01:54] * Muirfinn takes the stone and holds it!
[01:55] <Kotono> Knowledge flows into Muirfinn's head, granting him understanding of the stone's power! OOC: PM.
[01:59] * Muirfinn stares at the stone in wonder. "Why, this is marvelous! This is more than combination! The amount of power this puts out is certainly beyond mere combination! The effect is synergistic! And this is something only involving two casters! Imagine if three, four, or five were involved! Or more! The possibilities are...incredible."
[02:01] <Kotono> "We're just managing to combine two," The elder remarks, one finger waggled at the stone, "There are limitations. It takes all the effort of both parties. In tests, our tester couldn't even manage a quickened spell while using one. The results are spectacular but consuming to use. This one deals grevious amounts of harm with crushing waves of water, and it can't be resisted by the sorcererous
[02:01] <Kotono> resistance many spirits possess. Further, it manages the effects of the Tortoise Shell spell without the slowing effects on several at once."
[02:03] <Muirfinn> "An excellent spell to use on an opening volley, then. Preferably with time to prepare."
[02:05] <Kotono> The next stone out is a rich red stone, smooth as the last. It radiates a faint but steady heat. "This one isn't of any use to you, but you should be able to understand it. If the last was based on your style of combat, this one is based on General Afina's."
[02:07] * Muirfinn nods, handing back the first stone and taking the second.
[02:08] <Kotono> This stone is warm in hand, filling Muirfinn with more knowledge yet! OOC: PM.
[02:11] <Muirfinn> "Another devastating spell! These are truly remarkable. You have how many of these completed?"
[02:12] <Kotono> "Four," He says, "Hand me that stone back?"
[02:13] * Muirfinn does so.
[02:16] <Kotono> The third stone comes out - this one is  is a smooth white with dots of black. "The third," he offers, "General Ithea has a reputation for her ability to ward against every single element, yet always seems to need healing."
[02:17] * Muirfinn snorts, taking the stone.
[02:18] <Kotono> The third stone is passed to Muirfinn!
[02:20] <Muirfinn> "I assume, then, that there is one more for Jaela?" Muirfinn says, passing the stone back.
[02:21] <Kotono> "Yes," Passing it over to Muirfinn, "Here." This stone is a softer white, almost feathery-white.
[02:23] * Muirfinn laughs. "I can see Jaela and Ithea using that, with Ithea stealing strikes for every one of Jaela's own."
[02:25] <Kotono> Nodding to that, "We're still refining the techniques and magic involved," The elder says, "But these four are Aurora's to use as they see fit."
[02:28] * Muirfinn nods. "I'll make sure that the generals are aware of them."
[03:00] <Kotono> ---
[03:00] <Kotono> In the depths of Air, every day is bright and blue. The tortles gather out in part of the courtyard, a stage assembled out front. From afar Muirfinn and the Elder watch the other tortles assemble, "Are you prepared for your speech?" OOC: If you have any prep that needs to be done before they got there, say so and I'll asume you did it.
[03:02] <Muirfinn> OOC: Oh. Err. Yeah. I need a bit. Like probably a day or so. And some money. And someone's help in making a couple potions or something to I can have these spells cast that Vul'lath was talking about.
[03:03] <Muirfinn> OOC: I'll take a loan out of the Aurora fund
[03:03] <Kotono> OOC: Okay. Post what you need in loot.
[03:03] <Kotono> OOC: Lemme know when it's posted.
[03:03] <Muirfinn> OOC: Gimme a few
[03:03] <Kotono> OOC: Sure.
[03:21] <Muirfinn> OOC: Post
[03:25] <Kotono> As Muirfinn waits and prepares, Misalea approaches. She takes a long look at the crowd, "There's so many of them..." she murmurs to herself, "You may want to turn away, Elder," she says, "On first cast this spell can be overwhelming. After a few moments it passes."
[03:30] * Muirfinn nods. "Let's do this." Muirfinn says, stepping forward to adrdress his people.
[03:32] <Kotono> "Hold on," Misalea shakes her head before Muirfinn can begin to approach the stage, "Or do you want Inner Beauty to stun the front rows of the crowd?"
[03:32] <Muirfinn> OOC: Strike.
[03:33] <Muirfinn> OOC: Figured that since you didn't have the elder line, she'd already cast
[03:34] <Kotono> With that Misalea touches Muirfinn, holy power surrounding him as his stout tortle form becomes that much more radiant and beautiful! OOC: +4 sacred dex'n'cha. Go ahead and go up and line, seccing.
[03:36] * Muirfinn drinks from a flask in his hand, handing the empty bottle to the elder. "Here goes nothing." Muirfinn waits a few moments for the glow to die down and then steps up to the crowd of assembled tortles, observing them for a moment before speaking.
[03:43] <Muirfinn> "Brothers and sisters! I have come before you today not as one of your leaders, but as one of you! You can see, we have grown in size from the last time we spoke together. Our people have gone from a paltry number less than fifty to nearly three times that number, by the grace of the Mother Ocean and our own strength of arms in assaulting the Burning Aeropolis. However, I have noticed a disturbing
[03:43] <Muirfinn> trend in us all that lingers even now, in myself as well as all of you! Tell me, how many of you still refer to yourselves as part of the Stoneshell tribe, or the Deepheart tribe? How many of you divide over quarrels that your grandfathers couldn't have told you the origins of? How many of you have fought with one another since the fall of our home?" Muirfinn leans in, his voice lowering to
[03:43] <Muirfinn> encourage those around him to listen. "How many of you know that this is weakness? How many of you think that our great enemy, Abigor of the Avernus, would not leap at the chance to divide us and fracture a strong arm of the Aurora's great fighting force?  I do not doubt that the minions of Hell would shatter our trust in one another, dividing us and crippling us!" Muirfinn swings back into full
[03:43] <Muirfinn> voice, continuing, "We cannot allow this! That is why we must come together and speak with each other today! What so few of you know, what I must share with you today, is that I have been give a mission, direct from the Mother Ocean herSELF! And it concerns all of YOU!" Muirfinn pauses for effect, letting that sink in.  (more)
[03:45] <Muirfinn> "I have seen what awaits us all after death. I know it to be a paradise on par with our home, if not greater! I have spoken with timeless angels whose only duty is to cater to the Four and their servants! I have conversed with ascended tortles, and seen the great hall of prayer to the Mother Ocean! I tell you now that it pains her to see us so divided in our time of need; so divided in a time
[03:45] <Muirfinn> when we should be unified under ONE banner, ONE name. So, in response to that, her decree to me is to unify our people under one UNBREAKABLE tribe, something greater than its parts! This is not so difficult a task when faced against the alternative, which is assured oblivion at the hands of our enemies! Together we can weather the greatest storm, but divided we will surely fail against the forces
[03:45] <Muirfinn> of Hell."  (more)
[03:46] <Muirfinn> "However, this is merely a part of the Mother Ocean's plan. Her love for us is so great that she does not merely want us to unify, but she wants us to thrive again, on Lifasa! She has told me that we are to, as a unified and unstoppable force, retake Lifasa with the help of the Aurora and restore it to its former glory. Then, once that is done, our real work can begin. She wants for us to prosper,
[03:46] <Muirfinn> to flourish. She has commanded that we build an empire to the glory, tenacity, love and life of Mother Ocean, Father Earth, Brother Shell, and Sister Grain! Our empire will rise from the reefs and shores of Lifasa, a testament to our ability to live in harmony with the world." Muirfinn sighs, "However, we can only see this come about if you and I and all of us are willing to put aside ages-old
[03:46] <Muirfinn> arguments, petty blood-feuds, and intertribal disagreements over food, territory, and resources that don't even EXIST anymore!"  (more)
[03:46] <Muirfinn> "Tribes; our tribes barely exist anymore. Look around you. All the tortles around you were once part of a great tribe; a tribe of power, respect, and authority. Once a tribe was a bustling mass of tortles; the smallest tribe still over fifty souls. Now look at us. The Bluefin tribe has THREE SURVIVING MEMBERS. The Deepheart has ONE, and he is an ELDER! I am the last of the Shellscales! Many more
[03:46] <Muirfinn> of you are the sole living member of what remains of your tribe, cobbled together in our hurry to survive. We cling to the memory of our tribes because they are our heritage. We have done so for thousands of years, since the first tortle blessed by the four crawled from the seas and stood on two legs. There is much pride, yes, but pride has become our enemy. Pride in tribes that died on Lifasa."
[03:46] <Muirfinn> Muirfinn shakes his head, tears of sadness and pure water leaking from the corners of his eyes. Still, he presses on.  (more)
[03:47] <Muirfinn> "These are no longer tribes. They are now lost causes. So, I tell you this: mourn your lost fellows! Mourn your friends, your husbands and wives. Mourn your children, our most precious and rare resource. I would not dream of belittling their sacrifice. Those who died and gave their lives on the shores of Lifasa that day are and forever will be remembered as heroes to all of us; for they are
[03:47] <Muirfinn> the reason we exist at all as a people! They alone bought us the time we so desperately needed to enact an escape for all of you! We will sing songs of them to any who listen for a thousand years and more! But their tribes are gone. Let them die, and let us be reborn anew as one tribe. One tribe, to retake Lifasa! One tribe, to reach across the planes and tell all who can hear that we will not
[03:47] <Muirfinn> die with a whisper! That we will fight to the last man and woman! One tribe, to march straight into Hell if we must, and tell the devils that they made a sorry, sorry mistake in angering us, for our memory is long! Our justice assured! Our retribution terrible! Our tenacity unbowed! And our will UNBROKEN!"  (end)
[03:47] <Muirfinn> "With this act, we will live under one tribe. One name we all love and respect. No matter our views, or which member of the Four we love most, we all have one thing in common: We all love our home! Our lost home! I propose this: That our tribal names be wiped away, forever! Gone, but not forgotten! In memory, yes, but only a memory! We unite under the name of our home, Lifasa! I say we band
[03:47] <Muirfinn> together and wield the name of our home as both sword and shield! A banner that we will make sure ALL the devils of the Nine Hells will NEVER forget! When we are done, when our journey is through and our battles won, Baator itself will QUAKE at the mere MENTION of Lifasa! We will put into them the fear not of the gods, but of US! Tortles everywhere, and Lifasa FOREVER! JOIN ME IN AN UNBREAKABLE
[03:47] <Muirfinn> BOND! WHAT SAY YOU, SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF LIFASA!" Muirfinn finishes, hands in the air and arms outstretched to the assembled tortles. (HA I LIED end now)
[03:55] <Muirfinn> roll 1d20+48 perform oratory watch me fail it
[03:55] * Hatbot --> "Muirfinn rolls 1d20+48 perform oratory watch me fail it and gets 61." [1d20=13]
[03:58] <Kotono> At first the tortles listen. Oh, they listen as Muirfinn lowers his voice. They listen until Muirfinn calls YOU, invoking the name of Mother Ocean. There are a few murmurs at that - that grow louder at Muirfinn's message of unity and the hereafter. Yet they still as Muirfinn goes on, drawing attention back to himself. The murmurs become quieter now, like electricity passing through the crowd.
[03:58] <Kotono> All eyes are on Muirfinn, and at his climax? A cheer erupts out from the tortles, a great wave of noise farmed, developed and grown by Muirfinn's speech!
[04:03] * Muirfinn steps down and joins the group of tortles. "We will celebrate the birth of this new tribe with song and stories of our lost kin, today! Let the heavens and earth know of their sacrifice and what they have wrought!"
[04:11] <Kotono> To this great noise and bustle come from the tortles, caught up in Muirfinn's speech...
[05:12] <Kotono> Thereafter Muirfinn takes to wandering in the aftermath. The tortles are talking all about Muirfinn's speech, dozens of faces coming up to talk to him...OOC: Go ahead and set up what you're doing here.
[05:17] * Muirfinn speaks with many tortles, reassuring some and nodding in comraderie to others. In all, the event is going well. The speech seemes to have worked, and Muirfinn now seeks Elder Kole.
[05:22] <Kotono> Elder Kole is found hanging back, watching the affair by the time Muirfinn catches up to him. Misalea seems to have lingered, the two in quiet conversation that dries up as he approaches. "Muirfinn," he calls, "That speech was enough to shine a dozen shells!"
[05:24] <Muirfinn> A toothless grin splits Muirfinn's face in spite of his best control. "Call it divine inspiration. It was all true, though. We need to talk about consolidating the tribes and forming a proper structure for the elders. We also need a proper shrine to the Four. Something consecrated and holy, where the tortles of the Lifasa tribe can go to offer up their hopes and thanks."
[05:27] <Kotono> "A new single tribe, eh?" Rubbing his chin at this, "It fits what you said. Got a good name for it?"
[05:29] <Muirfinn> "Well, I meant it in my speech that I think the name of our tribe should be the very thing we fight for now. The Lifasa Tribe has a good ring to it, it doesn't harken back to any specific tortle tribe in particular, and it encompases the group as a whole."
[05:29] <Muirfinn> "Unless you have a better suggestion. I'm open to it. If we can all come to agree on one name, I'm fine with it."
[05:33] <Kotono> "It's a little gauche," Misalea says, "It's like calling the legions from Celestia the Celestia Tribe. There's no rythym to it or catchiness."
[05:36] <Muirfinn> "Well, we need some name that will last in war or peace. Something strong, but not something that will make the average tortle think, 'Gee, I'd like to help, but since my tribal name is VengeanceSomething-or-other, I feel the need to kick your shell in!' Powerful and firm, but also good and in control." Muirfinn rubs his chun.
[05:38] <Muirfinn> OOC: Chin >_>
[05:38] <Kotono> That gets Elder Kole to lightly laugh, "How about the Wholeshell tribe?" he suggests.
[05:39] <Kotono> Misalea makes a face, "Good names don't come from mashing two words together." Like she just bit into a lemon, Misalea grimaces. "Do you have a racial language?"
[05:40] <Muirfinn> "Well, of course we do."
[05:41] <Kotono> "Choose something that sounds good from it," Misalea suggests, "That appeals to tortle identity."
[05:43] <Muirfinn> "This will require thought." Muirfinn says.
[05:47] <Kotono> "Yes, yes," Elder Kole murmurs, "Perhaps the Dawn Tribe?"
[05:49] <Muirfinn> "Well, there are a few words that come to mind. Osgur, which is an old word for 'divine trident' or 'divine spear.' Niallghas, which means 'chosen of champions.' Dawn Tribe would work if we go with a Common word."
<Steph> I might have made a terrible mistake

[20:01] <Kotono> Going out into Air, Afina and Sylvie are alone. The latter is dressed for battle, carrying the tome that details the proper rites. "Now," Sylvie begins, "In theory this works anywhere. In reality I think it's a good idea to do this somewhere remote - just in case things go wrong."
[20:02] <Afina> "Doing it near an ally is probably bad," Afina agrees, "Especially if there's a chance for something to follow us back. Where's a place filled with people we hate?" she muses.
[20:05] <Kotono> Cracking a smile, "Isn't that an easy question?" After that she clicks her tongue against the top of her mouth, "Sarcasm works better without 21. Hell has merits, but I'm not sure if this will be detected. Your choice, General."
[20:07] <Afina> "Too much risk of detection," Afina admits sadly, not wanting to be interrupted with such a task. "Lets go to Acheron instead, we can do it from Makan's cube. Seems fitting that way."
[20:09] <Kotono> "Finality," Sylvie says, "Hold on." Going and rustling in her bag, "We can use this," she says, taking out a bracelet of what looks to be gray quartz. "It's for Ithea, but I haven't had a chance to give it to her yet." Sylvie tosses the bracelet out, which expands out and becomes a swirling Gate!
[20:10] <Afina> "I'm sure she won't mind if it's been used," Afina reassures, going through the gate.
[20:11] <Kotono> Thus you step through! You appear in Makan's throne room - old and empty now, rust having spread everywhere - even on things that aren't metal. There is a bone-still silence and nothing more.
[20:12] <Afina> "Dead and empty... we won't be disturbed here," Afina says after a look around. "How long do you think it'll take?"
[20:18] <Kotono> "It's mournful, like a forgotten tomb," Sylvie remarks, casting her gaze about. "It won't be quick. I don't think I'll fail - with 21 and the time I put into it, the actual steps aren't difficult at all. The trick is learning to think with an entirely alien mindset. I understand it and at the same time I don't." Reaching into her bag and talking out a box of chalk, "The first time I cast a spell
[20:18] <Kotono> that granted me the ability to see without my eyes, I was stunned at how different things were and how much more I saw. I never imagined or could imagine what an experience it was until I did it. Same concept, only far, far, far more advanced than that."
[20:22] <Afina> "But it's not really seeing if you don't use your eyes, is it?" Afina asks lightly. "My senses were like that, as a fey. I could hear your heartbeat from across the room, feel the vibrations in the air when you raised your arm... it's like absolute perception, almost impossible to fool or escape. Doesn't work anymore, though."
[20:25] <Kotono> "Yeah," Sylvie kneels and begins to draw with chalk, brushing bits of rubble out as she goes. She look sto be making an utterly incomprehensible pattern - and with a few murmured words she begins drawing in the air and through the ground, and yet those lines are solid and visible. The lines into the ground are visible despite all logic, giving Afina a faint stab of a headache as she gazes at
[20:25] <Kotono> them. "I'm certain that the Guardian of 21 made this in a form and way we could understand, too. We're being babied through it. The rest here is speculation, but I'm fairly certain a mind from Creation can't really understand what lies beyond, or if one did, you'd become what they are. It's incompatible with Creation."
[20:28] * Afina nods. "Doesn't fit. What's outside of existence doesn't conform to anything we can perceive or comprehend, not even in the littlest way. We must be careful and make this excursion brief."
[20:32] <Kotono> "Exactly," Sylvie says. OOC: Skip along?
[20:33] <Afina> OOC: do that mojo, Sylvie
[20:36] <Kotono> Hours pass. Sylvie draws in a pattern that gives Afina a headache. Lines and angles that her mind sputters on comprehending, knitting together at angles that are not angles and shapeless shapes. Yet somehow it does not go past giving her a headache. Sylvie grimaces in pain as she works, drawing it in more and more. At last she steps back, rubbing her temple. "Alright," she says in a quiet voice,
[20:36] <Kotono> "I'm ready for the last step. Are you?"
[20:37] <Afina> "Yes," Afina nods, recasting the spells that had worn off since arriving first, "Should I leave a delayed fireball behind to destroy the symbols before we leave or are they needed for our return?"
[20:38] <Kotono> "Keep them," Sylvie says, "They're needed. Unless you want to stay."
[20:40] <Afina> "Won't be doing that, then!" Afina says quickly, frightened by the thought. "We'll just have to clear them after we're done. Lets go, then," she says, fluttering close to Sylvie.
[20:47] <Kotono> Sylvie makes a small noise of assent, focusing! She begins to read words - strange words, barely even sounds. They make Afina's head throb like an anvil constantly pounded by a smith's hammer. But at this, the symbols that are not symbols whirl in patterns that are not patterns but instead squared circles and rectangles with hundreds of sides and going forward and back at the same time, endlessly
[20:47] <Kotono> repeating the same loop in time instantly and forever.
[20:49] * Afina does her best to just defocus and not get lost in any one facet of the unknowable, at least until all traces of Acheron have been left behind.
[20:56] <Kotono> The patterns begin to move - move together and apart, and in between that utter whiteness appears. It's strangely soothing compared to the rest, and to that Sylvie points, "There!" she calls,  advancing forward briskly, "Through there!"
[20:58] * Afina flies forward locked pace with Sylvie. She can do this, be done and back before anything can be any the wiser!
[20:59] <Kotono> Emptiness. You stand in emptiness. Nothing at all. Nothingness here, nothingness there, nothingness everywhere. Simple emptiness. You stand in it, float in it, swim in it.
[21:01] * Afina gets about this with her customary swiftness, accelerating herself massively as she tosses the Blade of Endings away and then fires a quick disintegrate at its Quilium hilt and sheath to remove any possibility for easy handling. As she slows back down again she turns to Sylvie. "Done. Lets go."
[21:01] <Kotono> OOC: What components does Disintegrate have?
[21:02] <Afina> OOC: V/S/M
[21:03] <Kotono> When Afina opens her mouth to utter the words of power to invoke the spell do not come. Only silence happens, her spell unactivated. Not a hint of sound at all - you can see Sylvie's lips moving, but no sound, either. No sound of you breathing, for that matter. No sound of you moving.
[21:06] <Afina> That throws a crimp in her plans. She really hopes their return trip doesn't require verbal components. Still, she can improvise, and here's where her elemental traits come in handy. First of all she gifts Sylvie with Water Breathing...
[21:07] <Kotono> OOC: Make a caster level check?
[21:08] <Afina> roll 1d20+20
[21:08] * Hatbot --> "Afina rolls 1d20+20 and gets 37." [1d20=17]
[21:11] <Kotono> The spell flows out from Afina! Green tentacles erupt from her hand at that touch, passing into Sylvie! She tosses her head back silently, eyes growing wide! Her top recedes away into her skin, leaving her momentarily bare chested. It doesn't last long - her bosom splits open, lungs exposed as her flesh peels back bloodlessly! From her lungs those tentacles emerge, dozens of mouth-like openings
[21:11] <Kotono> over them! With a look of panic in her eyes, Sylvie points back! You can see the portal you came through, as she takes out more chalk. Writing on her forearm as the tentacles writhe about her, 'Finishing trip back. Watch my back.' is written swiftly.
[21:13] * Afina looks utterly horrified, and decides rather than risking further complicated castings to create a breathable medium they can talk through and cast spells in, she'll just plane-shift the quilium to Fire. So long as it's seperated that's the main thing.
[21:14] <Kotono> OOC: CL check on that one too.
[21:15] <Afina> roll 1d20+20
[21:15] * Hatbot --> "Afina rolls 1d20+20 and gets 25." [1d20=5]
[21:19] <Kotono> The quilium vanishes! Yet a moment later it explodes all around you! Explosions of eyes, eyes forming all over! White eyes parted with reddish blues and purplish oranges. These eyes gaze at the two from all directions, thousands surely!
[21:21] <Afina> With a soundless whimper Afina flies back to where Sylvie is, wishing she'd learned how to cast spells silently. Hasting Sylvie, since she can at least do that without needing words, she looks to see how she's progressing while considering their options if more than just eyes show up... or if those eyes are like those of a Beholder and enough by themselves.
[21:23] <Kotono> Sylvie is working rapidly, drawing chalk outlines all over! The eyes are staring - oh, they're staring! OOC: Let's roll init here since order of actions matters now.
[21:23] <Kotono> roll 1d20+22 Sylvie
[21:23] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20+22 Sylvie and gets 41." [1d20=19]
[21:23] <Kotono> roll 7d4+3 Eyes
[21:23] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 7d4+3 Eyes and gets 22." [7d4=3, 2, 3, 1, 2, 4, 4]
[21:23] * Kotono changes topic to 'Sylvie(41)>Eyes(22)'
[21:24] <Afina> roll 1d20+25
[21:24] * Hatbot --> "Afina rolls 1d20+25 and gets 30." [1d20=5]
[21:24] * Kotono changes topic to 'Sylvie(41)>Afina(30)>Eyes(22)'
[21:24] <Kotono> Sylvie continues to work in the meanwhile! The eyes are just staring at Afina for the moment, staring at the two of them! OOC: Going to do anything or wait, Afina?
[21:27] <Afina> OOC: wait, may as well avoid provocation for now.
[21:27] * Kotono changes topic to 'Sylvie(41)>Afina(30)>Eyes(2)=Eyes(2)'
[21:28] <Kotono> The eyes continues to stare at Afina, more and more! As this happens she feels her head throb further!
[21:28] <Kotono> roll 5d10 touch AC, Afina?
[21:28] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 5d10 touch AC, Afina?  and gets 26." [5d10=9, 1, 4, 9, 3]
[21:28] <Kotono> OOC: Strike, wrong dice.
[21:28] <Kotono> roll 10d10 touch AC, Afina?
[21:28] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 10d10 touch AC, Afina?  and gets 62." [10d10=7, 10, 2, 9, 3, 6, 7, 4, 5, 9]
[21:29] <Afina> OOC: 42
[21:29] <Kotono> OOC: Fortitude save, but use your dexterity m odifier instead of your con modifier for it.
[21:29] <Afina> roll 1d20+31
[21:29] * Hatbot --> "Afina rolls 1d20+31 and gets 46." [1d20=15]
[21:31] <Kotono> Afina feels a strange pulse within her as her innards rework themselves in a painless fashion! OOC: Switch your con and dex scores. More.
[21:34] <Kotono> From below you the void past the eyes becomes filled. Below is a loop - an endless triangular loop in a perfect circle with jagged edges. Atop this loop sits a child - a sleeping child, forever eating its own tail in a curled up circle. Yet it seems to be looking up at the same time as its eyes are closed, eyes of red and black and colors in between that aren't colors at all, but time and shapes
[21:34] <Kotono> and space knitted together. OOC: Adding to init.
[21:34] * Kotono changes topic to 'Afina(30)>Sylvie(21)>Baby(Raised 2)>Eyes(2)=Eyes(2)'
[21:34] <Kotono> OOC: Go Afina.
[21:36] <Afina> That's enough provacation! Afina surges down at the baby as the most reasonable target for her, drawing not Hywelbane but instead the linthrum-based sword built over a Lord of the Hunt's horn, seeking to blood it on these most unnatural of beings!
[21:36] <Afina> roll 1d20+53 8th level arcane strike
[21:36] * Hatbot --> "Afina rolls 1d20+53 8th level arcane strike and gets 56." [1d20=3]
[21:36] <Afina> roll 1d20+48 8th level arcane strike
[21:36] * Hatbot --> "Afina rolls 1d20+48 8th level arcane strike and gets 64." [1d20=16]
[21:36] <Kotono> OOC: Hit. Damage. Replace any d4s with 2d2 each.
[21:37] <Afina> roll 2d2+20+5d6+2d6+16d2
[21:37] * Hatbot --> "Afina rolls 2d2+20+5d6+2d6+16d2 and gets 72." [2d2=1, 1][5d6=6, 4, 1, 3, 5][2d6=1, 6][16d2=2, 2, 1, 2, 2, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 1, 1, 1, 2]
[21:37] <Afina> roll 2d2+20+5d6+2d6+16d2
[21:37] * Hatbot --> "Afina rolls 2d2+20+5d6+2d6+16d2 and gets 69." [2d2=1, 1][5d6=5, 1, 4, 1, 6][2d6=4, 3][16d2=2, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 1, 1, 2]
[21:37] <Afina> She flies back towards Sylvie afterwards!
[21:37] <Kotono> OOC: PM me the info on the blade of endings?
[21:37] <Kotono> OOC: Er, the lintrum blade.
[21:40] <Kotono> The blade thrusts into the baby! It is ripped apart like tissue paper - and within it is a void of children. Countless many of the same baby loop within as that baby lies cut apart. As Afina flies back, she sees the babies take her features, sprounting fairy wings and skin turning steaming pink. Meanwhile the linthrum blade is pulsing in her hand, glowing with a light - and the very faintest
[21:40] <Kotono> hum of sound! OOC: Adjusting init.
[21:41] * Kotono changes topic to 'Afina(30)>Sylvie(21)>Eyes(2)=Eyes(2)>Babies(Down phase 1)'
[21:43] <Kotono> Sylvie continues to work! Her lung-tentacles pick up chalk as well, drawing pattern after pattern that is not a pattern! She's working fast - it shouldn't be long! Then the eyes are on her again, just staring as the babies below continue to simply stay there for now! Then from below as well, in the same place and at the same time not. It is a twisting mass of space, nothing at all taken farther
[21:43] <Kotono> than nothing. It is emptier than the Blade of Endings, as if nothing was made more nothing. OOC: Adding it to init.
[21:44] <Kotono> roll 6d8 vs 4 for successes empty space init
[21:44] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 6d8 vs 4 for successes empty space init and gets 34." [6d8=2, 7, 7, 3, 8, 7]
[21:44] * Kotono changes topic to 'Afina(30)>Empty Space(4 successes)>Sylvie(21)>Eyes(2)=Eyes(2)>Babies(Down phase 1)'
[21:44] <Kotono> OOC: Go Afina.
[21:49] <Afina> Unwilling to risk her blades against something that may have the potential to unmake them as the Blade of Endings could, Afina is forced to resort to magic once more despite the risk. But she's not even sure what would work, and decides to try something unusual - if reality is the plaything of such beings, perhaps unreality could confuse them? It's worth a shot, and thus Afina creates an illusion
[21:49] <Afina> surrounding herself, Sylvie, and the white portal. It's nothing fancy, merely a cube made of grid patterned poles, painfully regular and boring in Creation, seeming to be made of simple steel. But maybe it'll throw them off?
[21:49] <Kotono> OOC: What SLA?
[21:50] <Afina> OOC: Permanent Image. It could last for eternity unless they know dispel!
[21:50] <Kotono> OOC: Make a CL check.
[21:50] <Afina> roll 1d20+20
[21:50] * Hatbot --> "Afina rolls 1d20+20 and gets 25." [1d20=5]
[21:51] <Kotono> roll 1d6 3+ invulnerability save
[21:51] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d6 3+ invulnerability save and gets 4." [1d6=4]
[21:52] <Kotono> roll 1d100
[21:52] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d100 and gets 41." [1d100=41]
[21:53] <Kotono> The space around you takes on that pattern! But instead in each of the poles you see yourself - memories of days long gone, of utterly mundane and regular things. Yet these images cause the eyes to shut tight, the babies to silently cry out and the empty space to quiver back! Sylvie continues to work - she looks almost finished now! (Some init mods now.)
[21:54] * Kotono changes topic to 'Sylvie(2121)>Afina(30)>Empty Space(4 successes)>Afina(22)>Sylvie(21)>Eyes(2)=Eyes(2)=Eyes(2)=Eyes(2)>Babies(Down phase 2)'
[21:54] <Kotono> OOC: Go Afina, you're up on 30.
[21:55] * Afina just hopes she's bought them enough time and waits for Sylvie to finish.
[21:55] <Kotono> The empty space is recoiling back, not acting! OOC: Holding again, Afina?
[21:55] <Afina> OOC: yes
[21:56] <Kotono> Sylvie works - and suddenly the portal glows to life! You can hear Sylvie cry, "NOW!" she cries, "Through and destroy it!" before darting through it!
[21:57] * Afina follows immediately, ready to bring all her magic to bear on the other side once she can breathe!
[21:57] <Kotono> OOC: Both of you make normal fort saves real quick.
[21:57] <Afina> roll 1d20+31
[21:57] * Hatbot --> "Afina rolls 1d20+31 and gets 32." [1d20=1]
[21:57] <Kotono> roll 1d20+29
[21:57] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20+29 and gets 39." [1d20=10]
[21:58] <Kotono> OOC: Reset your con and dex first, Afina. All effects gained in the far realm are gone.
[21:59] <Kotono> roll 20d10 damage to both you and Sylvie full.
[21:59] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 20d10 damage to both you and Sylvie full. and gets 127." [20d10=8, 5, 8, 7, 6, 9, 2, 9, 8, 10, 3, 10, 1, 2, 9, 2, 7, 9, 10, 2]
[22:01] <Kotono> Your innards explode as the previously painless twisting becomes bloodily painful! Blood explodes from Afina's nose and mouth, agony erupting within her! Sylvie's chest is sudddenly tentacle free and pouring blood, her shirt back in place but chest not mended! You stand in Makan's throne room - and yet it hurts. Oh the Gods, it hurts! You can see it - time. Time screams at you in your hasted
[22:01] <Kotono> state, going forward and back. Your eyes widen in sublime mental agony, your brain exploding with pain as you see. You can begin to see it - time, another dimension, going forward and back. OOC: 4 points of int damage to both you and Sylvie. Finish your action, AFina.
[22:03] <Afina> For all the pain, the first thing Afina must do is take care of the symbols sustaining the gate, and she does it by gushing forth a huge wave of roiling hot lava that blasts and melts away the ground it rested on before rapidly hardening into blackened rock as it swiftly cools.
[22:03] <Afina> OOC: Deadly Lahar
[22:05] <Kotono> Burning, the symbols collapse in a tremendous burst of fire! The portal vanishes as time - oh God, you can see forever! You reyes widen as past and future whirl by you as current as the present, as real and close as the moment of now! You stumble back into near blackness as your senses are overwhelmed for a time, leaving your head with a headache so intense you can barely think - even when the
[22:05] <Kotono> dazed state passes! OOC: 16 more points of int damage to you and Sylvie. Act. The time-dimension effect seems to be gone.
[22:08] * Afina moans as she finds herself on the floor in a pool of steaming and hissing blood, pushing herself up and trying to speak. "Suh- Sylvie?" she asks, having to spit out more blood and wiping her nose on her forearm which comes away even more blood-soaked as she looks around for the human.
[22:10] <Kotono> Sylvie lies nearby, in a puddle of her own blood. She looks up, entire front a bloodied mess. Her gaze is in agony, tears and snot trickling down her face. She coughs - blood just like Afina, "Here," she croaks, "It's here and it was forward and back." Bloodily giggling, "It was like seeing everything!" Shaking her head, "Healing. I have to get us home."
[22:13] * Afina stands up and walks unevenly towards Sylvie, invoking a limited wish to heal her as much as she can first. "Home... oh it was horrible. I owe you so bad."
[22:13] <Afina> roll 4d8+20 cure critical
[22:13] * Hatbot --> "Afina rolls 4d8+20 cure critical and gets 37." [4d8=8, 4, 1, 4]
[22:14] <Kotono> "I wanted to go. Learn." Sylvie takes out a bloodied holy symbol of Gond, whispering, "Please, please open the gates of life once more..." Her wounds heal! Sitting up now, "Here. I'll take us home." OOC: HP maxed.
[22:17] * Afina grabs Sylvie's hand tightly with both of hers. "Hot bath after?" she suggests, considering the bloodied mess they are.
[22:29] <Kotono> With that two spells take you to Aurora's gates. You're rushed into the infirmary, healing restoring your injuries. Priest stands before you after mending the last of them, "I've never dealt with injuries quite like this," he says, "If you have any recurring or unusual symptoms, seek help immediately."
[22:31] <Afina> "We will," Afina promises, having no urge to break out in tentacles or anything horrid like that. Looking over at Sylvie she smiles a bit bashfully, "Sorry about what happened after I cast that first spell after we arrived. That must have been awful."
[22:33] <Kotono> Sylvie rests back on her elbows, "Don't worry about it. Knowing how strange the Planes are, tentacle breasts would've interested someone or another. Besides, I came to learn and did just that. Lesson one: Never cast Water Breathing in the Far Realm." Despite it all she's genuinely smiling now, "This sort of lore is incredibly rare! I'm going to write it up and submit it to the House of Knowledge."
[22:34] <Afina> "Also bring a bottle of air or something if you want to cast spells and talk," Afina suggests. "My plan was actually to do that and then use the abilities of my fire and water sides to melt ice and use the water as a medium to talk and cast through."
[22:35] <Kotono> "I have no idea if that would have worked. Does the concept of sound exist beyond Creation?" Sylvie hums, "Could we import it if it doesn't? Or is the concept of sound there so alien to us that we can't hear it?"
[22:36] <Afina> "That's a good point," Afina concedes. "I'd thought it was a matter of needing a medium that was absent, but if the concept itself is gone... you're right, I was thinking too shallowly."
[22:37] <Kotono> "Magic seems to work, even though by all logic it should be outside of the Weave," Sylvie goes on, "It's twisted, but it was working." Thoughtfully humming, "I'm going to discard the possibility the Weave extends out of Creation, as that doesn't make sense with what we know. I wonder if we brought magic with us or there's an equivalent force out there that we were manipulating?"
[22:37] <Kotono> Priest raises an eyebrow and listens quietly for now.
[22:39] <Afina> "Probably the latter - since all the spells worked strangely it must be a case of our magic and the medium meeting but doing so improperly," Afina decides upon, sitting herself up on her bed as they converse. "It's just too alien to properly catalogue, though. Were we even being attacked? Was that their way of greeting or even just perceiving that reacted so horribly with us?"
[22:42] <Kotono> "I'm inclined to agree," Sylvie nods slightly, getting up and heading for the portal. "Perhaps it's the other way around. The Weave translates what's outside of Creation to what we know as magic." Pausing as she listens to the rest, waiting at the portal, "It could be any of those, or something we couldn't imagine that has no equivalent to us. Look at what happened when we came back with time
[22:42] <Kotono> - probably your haste spell caused that, by the way. That's my running theory. Anyway, we saw time and it nearly destroyed our minds. What about something a few orders of magnitude above that?"
[22:44] <Kotono> Suddenly Sylvie blinks, "Wait a moment."
[22:44] <Afina> Getting up now to follow Sylvie, Afina flutters along after her. "We're just lucky it didn't snap enough to fling us through time, or even worse set us adrift of it. But back to magic, it could even be that it wasn't even our spells but simply our expectation of- hmm?"
[22:48] <Kotono> "You're a smelly giant." Sylvie says, before grinning. "You're a tiger! You're Ithea in drag! You're-" Her smile grows bigger and bigger, until she visibly winces, "A pixie. You're a pixie. You're a pixie. Dammit!" Biting off a swear as you pass into the baths, Sylvie heading to the woman's side, "I started thinking about the past a moment, and I remembered days before I had 21. For a moment I
[22:48] <Kotono> realized...something." With a feeble grab at the air, "I realized...something about time. Fuck!" Hitting her fist into the wall hard, "I had something for a moment, but it melted out of my mind like ice in summer. Something about time and...dammit! What the hell did I have?"
[22:51] <Afina> Afina naturally goes to the women's side as well. "A smelly giant and a tiger are one thing, but Ithea in drag? She's a woman, that's just normal clothes isn't it? I'm sorry, though, I don't know what you might have been getting at. I could use a Limited Wish to refresh your memory, though? Unless you think your brain forced you to forget as a defence mechanism... you remember how badly seeing
[22:51] <Afina> Time affected us, right?"
[22:52] <Kotono> "I was lying!" Sylvie says, "With 21! For a moment I had something! Dammit, try!" Sylvie says, "I had something, something huge! Something about relative time!"
[22:54] <Afina> "Oh, those were lies!" Afina sounds rather relieved by that, attempting now to Modify Sylvie's Memory through a Limited Wish to let her recall the past minute with perfect clarity.
[22:56] <Kotono> Sylvie furrows her brow a moment before her shoulders exhale. "Nothing." With a sigh she hits thew all again, though with far less force than last time. She goes in and begins to undress, "Let me think a minute, see if I can dredge up anything or form a theory."
[22:58] <Afina> "Take your time. It'll come to you if you let it," Afina gives her own advice as she too strips and bundles up her clothes with her equipment, taking a brief look at the linthrum sword to see if any changes have stuck before she gets in the water.
[22:59] <Afina> roll 1d20+39 spellcraft
[22:59] * Hatbot --> "Afina rolls 1d20+39 spellcraft and gets 43." [1d20=4]
[23:00] <Kotono> There's extremely powerful enchantments around it, but they're still solidifying. It's going to be a hell of a weapon, Afina knows that much.
[23:01] <Afina> Well, she can look later and think of a name for it. For now, though, she'll go and slip into the water, sighing blissfully at the heat and surrounding steam as she immerses herself.
[23:03] <Kotono> In the steam Sylvie scoots over next to you, sitting back against the edge and submerged up to her waist. Sitting back for a goodly time and looking up, "Nothing," she finally asserts, "But I'm cobbling together a theory. One. It's been said before that time is a river or a straight line. There's the past behind us, the present and the future ahead of us. Two. The Beyond doesn't conform to our
[23:03] <Kotono> Creation. This most likely includes how time works. Three. Therefore, with the insight on time, for a moment I managed to do...something. Cheat time somehow. Like being in the past and present at the same time."
[23:05] <Afina> "Oh," Afina breathes out as she places all of that. "But it's just 'you', nothing else changes? So in essence 'you' were both the 'you' that's right here," she nods towards the blonde above her, "But also the 'you' of say five years ago. Not in the sense of remembering being her, but actively perceiving the world as her simultaneously with your current perceptions?"
[23:08] <Kotono> "Something like that," Sylvie says, "Perhaps I was able to make a loop in the river of time, or somehow became her and myself at the same time," Humming a little bit, "Something akin to that. Remember what happened when you sliced that baby open?"
[23:09] * Afina shudders. "Between those and that cage I left showing scenes from my life, I really don't want to think what could come from that."
[23:11] <Kotono> "It might have already happened, or happen millions of years in the future. I wonder if we weren't seeing that many of them but instead one at different points in time. Remember, you cast haste. Perhaps the realm was reacting to it." Sylvie continues to look up, "Or perhaps you introduced the concept of 'time' to it with your haste spell."
[23:13] <Afina> "I think in all this, one thing's forgotten, though," Afina holds up a hand out of the water, finger extended. "Haste has nothing to do with time. It makes an individual move and react faster, but time doesn't change for them."
[23:18] <Kotono> Shrugging at that and making her bosom move about freely, "That's a good point, but it's a technical one. It's technically speed, but many think of haste as time magic. I tend to, even though I academically know better. I wonder what role preception plays in all of this," she hums, looking over to Afina. "Speed or time or whatnot, we did experience time. Since we did, I'm positing that time had
[23:18] <Kotono> something to do with that haste, or it was intepreted as such."
[23:21] <Afina> "Okay, I'll go with that since it's as likely as anything else," Afina allows. "So if I introduced all these concepts what then? If I've given the Far Realm the concepts of time, of water breathing (does that include the concept of water?), of being cut open with swords, of baby fairies, and of cages made of memories? What does that mean? Have I doomed Creation?"
[23:23] <Kotono> "Only Oghma knows," Sylvie lightly shrugs again, resting back. "We aren't the only ones who have been there, so I doubt it. I'm going with the assumption that in any case, there's something that keeps those things out of Creation. I should review those notes of Kascha's and the last conversation we had with the Guardian. I can't recall if that came up. Even if you spawned or fathered dozens of
[23:23] <Kotono> Afina-horrors from Beyond, I don't see them getting here anyway."
[23:25] <Afina> "With luck they'll share my murderous hatred for devils," Afina sighs, sinking into the water up to her neck and leaning against the side of the baths next to Sylvie. Admittedly the picture of a swarm of Afinas in miniature bursting out of some unfathomable rip in Creation in the depths of Hell to wreak havoc does bring a smile to her lips.
[23:26] <Kotono> Sylvie reaches out and pats Afina's shoulder, "With luck," she agrees fondly, "Congratulations, Mom."
[23:26] <Afina> That makes Afina break out into full blown laughter.
[23:27] <Kotono> Grinning at this as Afina laughs, "Striking blows against Baator even beyond Creation?"
[23:28] <Afina> "Mmmm," she makes a vaguely affirmative noise, smiling. "Go back there in a few years and it'll be fairies all the way down."

[20:02] <Kotono> Ebony's color looks better as the two of you meet in Aurora's courtyard. She walks normally now, though the occasional flash of fatigue can still be noted. Mirajane runs around Jaela, playing and laughing as Ebony approaches.
[20:04] <Jaela> "Celestia will do all of us some good," Jaela says, once greetings are exchanged. And it should be safe enough, although she took the liberty of precasting her customary divination against dimensional travel and fortunate fate for herself and Mirajane. She now shares it with Ebony as well. "Ready to go?"
[20:07] <Kotono> "Yes," Ebony says, "Lead us on."
[20:08] <Jaela> "Mirajane!" Jaela calls out, extending a hand towards her. "Come on! We're all holding hands when we cross the planes!"
[20:10] <Kotono> Mirajane comes on over, taking Jaela's hand with a happy smile. She doesn't say anything as you head out into Air, just floating along happily.
[20:10] <Jaela> "On three!" Jaela cautions. "One, two--" She transports the three of them across, then, to the shore of Celestia's first layer.
[20:10] <Jaela> "Three!"
[20:14] <Kotono> "Three!" Mirajane echos, a ghost of a smile coming to Ebony's face as they vanish! A moment later you stand waist deep in water. Warm, wine-purple waters that lap against an endless beach of white sand, an utterly massive mountain rising ahead. Indeed, Mount Celestial looms above and ahead of you. Ebony looks up with undisguised peace and reverence.
[20:15] * Jaela gathers Mirajane into her arms, at least for now.
[20:21] <Kotono> Ebony begins to walk forward, "All of us that have ethos and faith close to that of the holy mountain feel the call," Ebony begins, "A sense of peace, a feeling of rightness. Something everyone feels on a plane that matches them, but with Celestia it's always a little more. There's always the call of Chronias."
[20:22] <Jaela> "We won't be going quite that far," Jaela assures her with a snort. "Or I'll need to spend the rest of my life in hiding from your goddesses and Antenora."
[20:27] <Kotono> "If we reached Chronias, it wouldn't matter," Ebony says, "None have ever returned. We've spent a lot of time talking about it - myself, Latha and Antenora. Whatever's up there is transcendant, most likely some sort of truth that encapsulates law and righteousness in totality. What we believe in draws us to it, a perfect harmony of rightness."
[20:30] <Jaela> "Wanna tell Mirajane a bit about the mountain?" Jaela offers, heading for shore.
[20:36] <Kotono> As you walk on shore you can hear the sound of trumpets - no source, however, and no creatures are nearby. Ebony smiles, pushing her hood back. A cool breeze blows down from the mountain, rustling your hair. "Yes, let's," Ebony begins, as...OOC: Skip along?
[20:37] <Jaela> OOC: Sure
[20:39] <Kotono> roll 1d100
[20:39] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d100 and gets 93." [1d100=93]
[20:42] <Kotono> OOC: Also stupid question I just realized - you're searching fo ra path up, I presume?
[20:43] <Jaela> OOC: Yes
[20:45] <Kotono> For a few hours you walk on those sand beaches. There's no sign of a path up yet - though Mirajane certainly enjoys running and flying about, laughing at this or that. As you walk along, "It may take some time," Ebony admits, as you can notice something ahead. Sitting on the sand is a freestanding wooden door of fine make and construction. It would fit in at a rich mansion. On the door a
[20:45] <Kotono> golden plaque can be seen.
[20:47] <Jaela> "That's alright, I know that much," Jaela responds, guiding them towards the door to read the plaque. "I expected it, and Mirajane's having fun."
[20:55] <Kotono> The plaque reads 'The Glory'. Ebony watches Mirajane running around the door and smiles faintly, "She's at that age," Ebony murmurs, "One of my small regrets is never having a child in my mortal life, though I never truly felt the call of motherhood. Only a few stray pangs."
[20:56] <Jaela> "It's not like it would be seriously different now," Jaela reasons, knocking on the door.
[21:02] <Kotono> The door is knocked on. There's no reply from it.
[21:03] * Jaela tries opening it, then.
[21:05] <Kotono> The door opens! Ahead looks to be a the front room of a gorgeous mansion, rich and well appointed.
[21:06] <Jaela> "Excuse me!" Jaela calls ahead into the room. "Anyone here?"
[21:07] <Kotono> "Enter!" A man's voice calls, rich and pleasant.
[21:08] <Jaela> "Thanks! Mirajane, we're coming over for a visit!" Jaela waits for the girl to fly to the door before taking her hand and stepping inside together.
[21:17] <Kotono> On stepping inside, you find yourself in that front room. Everything is decorated in wood paneling, with a few fireplaces adding a golden glow to everything. Rails of gold are about as well, with paintings hanging on the wall. Sitting next to one of the fires is a blonde man who wears white, rising from his position as the three enter.
[21:18] <Jaela> "Hey there," Jaela greets him. "Thanks for having us over." She introduces the three of them, before raising an eyebrow and asking, "So... the Glory?"
[22:07] <Kotono> "Is that what you're seeking?" he asks back, "The glory?"
[22:07] <Jaela> "Sometimes. Here, though? I figured that considering the location, whoever's here could teach me about boundaries while seeking it."
[22:13] <Kotono> "A wise discussion to have," The man says, "Would you three care to join me for dinner and discussion?"
[22:13] <Jaela> "Sure thing!" She grins in him, in large part for recognizing Mirajane. She's very smart, after all!
[22:17] <Kotono> With that the trio is taken to a rich dining hall. Here several courses are laid out in full splendor. Ebony raises an eyebrow but keeps her own council for now, as Mirajane follows Jaela.
[22:18] <Jaela> "Do you get many visitors?" Jaela asks, pulling a chair back for Ebony first of all. She ensures that Mirajane is seated and has a napkin in her lap, next, and then sits down at her side.
[22:27] <Kotono> "Thank you," Ebony murmurs as she sits. Mirajane sits without help as you get a reply, "I get as many visitors as is needed," he answers, "That is enough."
[22:28] <Jaela> "Of course you do," Jaela agrees. She observes Mirajane to see which of the dishes seems to appeal to her as she waits for their host to start.
[22:30] <Kotono> Mirajane seems most interested in a bowl of ripe red strawberries, with little golden bowl-cakes and cream nearby.
[22:31] <Jaela> They're in a heaven, Jaela hardly needs to worry about proper diet. She helps Mirajane to a pair of small cakes with a liberal helping of cream and strawberries.
[22:33] <Kotono> Ebony abstains for now as your host smiles, "Hold old is she?" he asks.
[22:35] <Jaela> "Right now, three!" Jaela says proudly.
[22:39] <Kotono> "Ah. I mean in absolute years, not relative age," He explains, "Celestial children do not always grow at the mortal rate." Said child is tearing into her strawberries with a happy look, waving her hand over them, "Magic." she declares with solemn glee, the strawberries growing in size and falling apart into neat slices.
[22:41] <Jaela> "A bit over two months," Jaela says. "Two months and five days, to be exact. But who's counting?"
[22:45] <Kotono> "She's growing well," Your host says, "A small glory in its own way, but I doubt that's the sort of glory you're thinking of."
[22:47] <Jaela> "I don't really think about glory much," Jaela muses. "Fighting devils is its own reward. But if you're gonna do something, you better do it well, you get what I'm saying? And glory helps with recruitment, turns out. Who knew? But people won't join your Crusade unless you killed something impressive and in a flashy way."
[22:51] <Kotono> Pausing to pour glasses of cold water for everyone, listening along to it, "People desire proven champions," he says, "It is the way kings are made and the birthseed of empires."
[22:53] <Jaela> "So what's to separate the bad kind of glory from the good kind?" Jaela asks, taking a sip from her glass. "That you don't find any happiness or satisfaction in it? That sounds off to me, since there's no shame in being happy over your successes. What do you think?"
[22:55] <Kotono> It's viciously cold water, refreshing as can be. "That," your host says, "Is a fine question. My personal opinion is that glory is merely a means to an end, but an intoxicating one. The approval, awe and love of others is the sweetest wine, and far too easy to become a drunkard on it."
[22:56] * Jaela snaps her fingers. "Right, good answer! It's bad if there's this trend where its your goal instead of some byproduct, right? Once or twice it's okay, but if you start doing it more and more, that's where you need to reexamine yourself." She nods slowly. "How did you come by that bit of insight?"
[23:01] <Kotono> "The wisdom of the ages," With a hint of a smile, "We elders learn all sorts of wisdom." Sipping his water as Mirajane works on her food and Ebony listens, "Approval, love and awe are neither fully good nor evil. So would you agree that in excess is where the problem lies?"
[23:03] <Jaela> "Extremes tend to be pretty bad with very few exceptions," Jaela agrees, smiling back.
[23:06] <Kotono> "Then is a mother loving a daughter too much wrong? Certainly, love can become smothering and controlling." Sipping his water again, "Approval taken too far can allow an authority to do as it pleases, no matter what, because it's a source of reverence. Too much awe leaves those around you helpless and awestruck, seeing you as far more than you are. Pistis Sophia teaches restrain and the path
[23:06] <Kotono> of the ascetic - those are some of her lessons in moderation."
[23:08] <Jaela> "Isn't the ascetic path another extreme, though? I mean, I've got one living with me. Never mind any expensive stuff, she refuses to even get a proper room for herself and just sleeps in a corner of the church."
[23:09] <Kotono> "Does that mean every extreme is wrong, or is that one of the exceptions? Can one be too righteous?" Your host asks back, "Can one be too wise or too learned in the holy teachings?"
[23:11] <Jaela> "The latter? Easily, if it just locks them in sophistry and endlessly trying to examine some problem instead of just handling it." Jaela shrugs. "The only obvious exceptions I can see are pursuing the doctrine of a plane. Becoming one with Arborea or Celestia isn't for me, but that's one extreme that's obviously alright?"
[23:16] <Kotono> "I'd venture that wisdom is not in determining exact limits, but being wise enough to appraise yourself openly to maintain a proper path," Going in, "Including in the pursuit of glory. We can mince words about what is righteous and foolish about extremes and what is too far, but does it not ultimately return to that?"
[23:17] <Jaela> "In a nutshell, you're talking about being honest with yourself? Self-deception is evil and all that?"
[23:21] <Kotono> "That's part of it. Having the wisdom to accurately judge. Self-honesty and reflection are parts of that greater whole. Of course, alone one only has themselves. But with many greater wisdom gain be gained, including insights that might otherwise elude you."
[23:22] * Jaela nods towards Ebony. "That's why we're not out here alone. Part of the reason, anyway." She turns towards the other angel more fully, then, and asks, "So I'm wondering, why aren't you eating anything? Not hungry?"
[23:25] <Kotono> Ebony smiles at this, "Do you think an angel that talked against excess would really live in opulence like this?" she asks. "Or consume such feasts?"
[23:27] <Jaela> "I actually figured it was there to see if you'd fall into gluttony or something sad like that. And opulence?" She takes a longer look about herself. "Huh. Never really noticed. Don't really care about that stuff."
[23:29] <Kotono> The wealth around you shifts - to a much plainer and simpler building, though the food remains. "A mere trick of the light and the wisdom of the ages," he says, "The normal tests aren't to my taste, as my words are sufficient."

[19:47] <Kotono> By dint of the draw it ends up being Sage Vul'lath who casts Sending. After several moments he looks to both of you, "He has sent a location back - The Broken Ship on the Astral Plane."
[19:48] <Ithea> roll d20+37 K:P on broken ship.
[19:48] * Hatbot --> "Ithea rolls d20+37 K:P on broken ship. and gets 55." [d20=18]
[19:50] <Kotono> It's a vast broken ship on the Astral Plane. It's said to be haunted and few people go there. In reality, Ithea knows that the githyanki avoid it for being the site of a great setback, and several nasty creatures call it home - including Astral Dreadnaughts, giant Astral Worms and other thing. It's essentially no man's land.
[19:52] <Muirfinn> "Sounds like a blast." Muirfinn deadpans after Ithea shares that information. "I'll open a gate."
[19:52] <Ithea> "He's certainly not picking a pleasant place to give Tannin back to us," Ithea muses outloud. "Did he make any comments on how many people were to go or any other conditions?"
[19:55] <Kotono> "No," Sage Vul'lath says, but your reverie is interrupted as Sylvie approaches, "Ithea! There you are!" she calls, coming over. She smothers a big yawn, looking really rather tired. Despite her pace, her body sags and she has to stop another yawn as she approaches, "Aaaaaaaaaah. Sorry. I've been meaning to catch you for a few days."
[19:55] <Ithea> "Hey Sylvie. You alright?" Ithea asks after greeting her with a wave.
[19:56] * Muirfinn eyes Sylvie as well. "Are you getting enough rest?"
[19:58] <Kotono> "Oh, I just got a full examination from Balyss after a Far Realm trip. I'm about to fall asleep standing up," she admits with tired cheer, "I'm going to sleep after this, but first!" Reaching into her bag she takes out a bracelet of gray quarts, "Catch!" she tosses it right to Ithea.
[19:59] * Ithea raises an eyebrow as she catches the bracelet. "...This is?"
[20:00] <Muirfinn> "It appears to be a bracelet made of gray quartz."
[20:01] <Kotono> "It's the Gate of Counter Ithea's Luck," Sylvie says, "You can use that to open up a Gate to get out of trouble or use the other function to summon a reinforcement. If you need my help or even someone else's in Aurora, use it." she replies, yawning after, hand in front of her face as her mouth is wiiiide open.
[20:04] <Ithea> "Thanks! Go get your rest then, I'll talk with you more afterwards," Ithea says appreciatively as she pockets it before turning to the other two. "Anyway, ready to go pick up Tannin then?"
[20:05] <Kotono> "I've been enlisted?" Sage Vul'lath asks, "Very well, I will do as ordered."
[20:06] <Muirfinn> "I am ready...you have nothing that you are working on, Vul'lath?" Muirfinn looks at the gith in surprise.
[20:08] <Kotono> "I have several," he says, "Further, going to the Astral Plane is a considerable risk for me," he notes, "In case Her Majesty has taken offense at my leave. However, I'm certain you've taken this into account."
[20:08] <Ithea> "Go ahead and stay, Vul'lath. Muirfinn and I should be enough, considering we're not trying to be picking a fight with this mage, and Muirfinn has the magic to get us back, not to mention Sylvie's new gift," Ithea says.
[20:09] <Kotono> "As you command," Sage Vul'lath says, "Good hunting."
[20:10] * Muirfinn opens a Gate!
[20:10] <Muirfinn> OOC: 500 yards away to give us room to look about. Gates are an exact science.
[20:14] <Kotono> OOC: Going out and doing so in Air, I presume?
[20:15] <Muirfinn> OOC: Well yes of course. That's a given.
[20:16] <Kotono> One Gate takes you to the silver sea, wherein time ceaes to mean anything and silence reigns. Ahead of you is the ruins of an absolutely vast ship - broken up and floating debris are all over. It's strangely empty and quiet - save for ahead and above, you can see a beam of light rising up into the Silver Sea. It's from above, ondeck of the ship. Taking a look, you can see an aurora of light
[20:16] <Kotono> there, someone standing within it.
[20:17] <Muirfinn> "Nice of him to let us know where to go." Muirfinn says, heading that way.
[20:18] <Ithea> "Mhmmm," is all Ithea says as she flies towards the deck of the ship and the light.
[20:22] <Kotono> Thus you fly up! Up there you find - !!! A vast beast lies slaughtered on the deck. Something massive and brown and silver. It lies in broken pieces, surely having been big enough to rival a dragon. Blood is splattered all around it. As you look away from that, you can see that Tannin stands in the beam of light, "Hey, over here!" he calls.
[20:24] * Muirfinn floats over. "Nice work, Tannin."
[20:26] <Ithea> "Hello again, Tannin. Sorry we took so long in coming to get you back," Ithea apologizes as she lands in front of the beam of light. Using detect magic, she eyes the beam, curious if it's a protective shield to keep Tannin safe from beasts, a prison, or what.
[20:26] <Kotono> OOC: Spelclraft.
[20:27] <Muirfinn> roll 1d20+50 Spellcraft wut de fook is it
[20:27] * Hatbot --> "Muirfinn rolls 1d20+50 Spellcraft wut de fook is it and gets 51." [1d20=1]
[20:27] <Ithea> roll d20+35 SC
[20:27] * Hatbot --> "Ithea rolls d20+35 SC and gets 54." [d20=19]
[20:27] <Kotono> "Yeah, I'm fucking thrilled," Tannin mutters, "So there I was, looking up information on the wizard. I find a lead and BAM! It's a bleeding honeytrap. One kiss and the next thing I know I'm caught by Kylsarm."
[20:28] <Kotono> It's a beam of light. In addition to being highly visible, it seems specially designed to repel natives of the Astral Plane. It's quite a complex, specialized spell.
[20:28] <Ithea> "One kiss?" Ithea asks curiously, with a raised eyebrow.
[20:30] * Muirfinn snorts.
[20:32] <Kotono> At this Tannin darkens and blushes, eyes flashing green, "She was gorgeous. Should've known better," he mutters. "Point is that Kyslarm is aware enough to have agents out looking to botch attempts to dig up dirt on him. That also means he has enough resources to do that. Guy's good - saw him cast a lotta magic and not a single spell was standard."
[20:34] <Ithea> "I can imagine. Never seen a spell like this one. Can you step out of it, do we need to do anything to deal with him, or are you just free to go?" Ithea asks.
[20:36] <Kotono> "I can step out. It's the only thing keepin' me from risking fighting one of those," Jerking his head to the slaughtered beast, "Kylsarm took care of it with one spell. Made it crack like an egg and start bleeding, and the cracks just got worse and worse 'till it fell apart."
[20:39] <Ithea> "Hrm, well, unless anybody feels like fighting anything around here that was attracted by Muirfinn and I arriving, we might as well take off then, since it looks like we don't have to do any dealings with Kylsarm. You'll probably want a nice meal at Aurora, right, Tannin?" she asks.
[20:41] <Kotono> "That's the hell of it," Tannin grunts, "Kylsarm was the nicest captor I've ever had. Treated me well, fed me, nice room, everything. Hell, if twasn't for the matter of fact way he mentioned that he'd kill me if needed, he'd have been a perfect gentlemen. There I was and he said he'd kill me! No malice, no rage, just stating a fact like the sky is blue! Like that's just how it has to be."
[20:42] <Muirfinn> "So best not give him a reason, then." Muirfinn says, turning to Ithea. "Any desire to search the ship while we're here? See if we can bring back anything of value? Other than Tannin, of course."
[20:45] <Ithea> "Well, I'm at least glad he didn't torture you or anything," Ithea comments. "And that's up to you and Tannin, Muirfinn. I just came for him."
[20:45] <Kotono> "He said all the nasties lair below decks," Tannin remarks, "You wanna tangle with them?"
[20:47] <Muirfinn> "Fair enough." Muirfinn says, instead opening a gate to Air.
[20:48] <Ithea> "Maybe another day, Muirfinn."
[20:50] <Kotono> Thus the trio returns! Once back Tannin steps in and stretches, "Ah, it's good to be back," he says, "So at least I found something out about the bastard."
[20:51] <Muirfinn> "Do share."
[20:57] <Kotono> "He's dangerous and has deep resources, like I said. He's aware and not interested in a conflict," Tannin goe son, "You ask me, we leave 'em alone. He's not our fight, and I'm betting good gold that he's be a tough fight if we do go after him."
[20:58] <Muirfinn> "Fair enough. If he has no desire to join us or oppose us, pressing the issue would not be wise. I can agree with leaving him be."
[21:01] <Kotono> "I'll pretty it all up in my report," Tannin says, "Thanks for the rescue. Learned my lesson about that one!"
[21:04] * Ithea nods. "We made an agreement not to harass him to get you back, anyway. And the people of Aurora are good to their word."
[21:06] <Kotono> OOC: Okay, with Tannin rescued, do y'two have anything else on the agenda right now?
[21:07] <Muirfinn> OOC: Nothing pressing!
[21:08] <Ithea> ooc: Nothing at all.
[21:08] <Ithea> ooc: that was my entire agenda.
[21:10] <Kotono> As Muirfinn and Ithea enter into the entry hall, they find a familiar face. Dana is there, whistling and with a big, crystalline hammer slung over her shoulder. "Oh Ithea!" she calls.
[21:11] <Ithea> "Dana," Ithea acknowledges/greets the other warrior.
[21:12] <Kotono> "Oh, just thought you should know," she says, lifting the hammer up a bit, "Your Stille's awfully generous with the gifts to other women."
[21:17] * Ithea just shrugs. "I'm aware of that. He's been giving gifts to a lot of the female warriors since he joined the crusade, honestly. But he doesn't do more besides looking and appreciating, and in the end, making sure our warriors have a better chance to stay alive, so can't see it as something to get jealous about," Ithea says frankly.
[21:21] * Muirfinn is very clearly not having anything to do with this conversation.
[21:21] <Kotono> "Oh," Dana snaps her fingers, "Damn. Boring." With a little sigh, "At least you got 'im on a good leash."
[21:24] <Ithea> "From what I've been able to tell, most of his relationships end just because the woman wants to be the only one in his eyes. I'm happy being the most important one in his eyes," Ithea comments with another shrug, and a small hint of a smile.
[21:25] <Kotono> "Oh, so are you letting him fuck around," Dana asks, "Is that how you catpeople go about it? Hey Muirfinn, do you turtle people do the same thing?"
[21:25] <Ithea> "...well, okay, and being the only one he touches," Ithea amends. "I don't care about roving eyes, I do kind of care about the other thing."
[21:28] <Muirfinn> "I'm sorry, what?" Muirfinn refocuses his attention.
[21:34] <Kotono> "Oh," Snapping her fingers, "Damn." Turning to Muirfinn, "Do your people fuck around like shelled hedonists?"
[21:39] * Muirfinn blinks a few times, processing for a moment before saying, "We are an egg-laying species. We do not have the required parts for intercourse. As for your next question, we are highly monogamous."
[21:41] <Kotono> Blinking at that, "Egg laying? No shit?" Staring, "Wait, so how do the eggs get fertilized then?"
[21:43] <Muirfinn> "Young tortles tend to have found a mate by the time a female begins laying eggs.  They have roughly forty to fifty years. The male then fertilizes the egg." Muirfinn states matter-of-factly.
[21:50] <Kotono> "How the fuck...?" Dana mutters, making a face, "They fuck the EGGS?"
[21:52] <Muirfinn> "What? No." Muirfnn shakes his head. "Young lady, you are in sore need of an education in biology."
[21:53] * Ithea just rubs her forehead at the conversation she is being forced to listen to.
[21:54] <Kotono> "How else to you knock the eggs up!?" Dana growls, "Last I checked, that involved sticking your dick in something!"
[21:57] <Muirfinn> "For mammals, sure. Reptiles are different. Note the shell and scales."
[21:58] <Ithea> "If you guys want to have a biology lesson, can you have it in the privacy of one of your rooms?" Ithea asks, still rubbing her forehead.
[22:00] <Muirfinn> "Because I'd much rather talk about cross-specias mating and infidelity."
[22:02] <Ithea> "I'd rather not."
[22:03] <Muirfinn> "Right."
[22:05] <Kotono> "Right," Dana thirds, "So that was creepy, so I'm going to go forget this conversation ever happened. Sound good?"
[22:05] <Ithea> "Sounds good to me," Ithea affirms.
[22:06] <Muirfinn> "Good." Muirfinn walks off.
[22:07] <Ithea> "Well alright then."

[19:47] * Jaela glances at Mirajane's plate. "I think it's fine to indulge an adorable girl here and there, don't you? Especially when she behaves so well!"
[19:51] <Kotono> "She's very well behaved," your host agrees as Mirajane works on slowly clearing her plate.
[19:53] <Jaela> "Is climbing the mountain much like that? A chance to learn and meet people?"
[19:56] <Kotono> "Climbing the mountain is many things," Ebony speaks up here, "It is what you need, not what you want."
[19:57] <Jaela> "Is it alright to recruit decent people I come across?"
[20:00] <Kotono> "Recruit, to a crusade?" A question in those words by your host. He pauses at this a moment, "If one willingly wants to go with you and is given leave, I don't see any problems."
[20:00] * Jaela nods. "I try to make the offer wherever I go. Unless the locals will get upset by it."
[20:03] <Kotono> "Momma," Mirajane pipes up at this, pointing at a wall. "Light."
[20:04] * Jaela looks at the wall, hardly about to ignore her.
[20:06] <Kotono> It's a plain enough wall. However, your host gives Mirajane a rather surprised look instead. "Do you see something?" His voice is studiously neutral, but interest shows.
[20:07] <Kotono> "Light," Mirajane repeats, pointing. "Lots of light."
[20:07] <Jaela> "Wwhat,
[20:07] <Jaela> "What, like Chronias? Or a lantern?"
[20:10] <Kotono> "I don't understand, either," Ebony confesses. "What is Mirajane seeing?"
[20:10] <Jaela> "Well, two of us know." Jaela smiles at their host.
[20:10] <Kotono> "Light," Your host answers simply, "Most everything here is a trick of the light. Your child has the angelic eyes of true sight, or is at least developing them."
[20:12] * Jaela grins. "Sounds about right." She's practically surrounded with people much better than she in various ways, which only makes the way she keeps up a source of pride in her abilities. "I figure we imposed on you plenty? It was a nice chat, and thanks for feeding Mirajane."
[20:15] <Kotono> "Go on," Your host says, "More awaits you."
[20:15] * Jaela gives him a nod, and then takes Mirajane's hand before heading back outside.
[20:18] <Kotono> Once back outside Ebony takes a moment to breathe in the air, "His words on glory were well received?" she asks of Jaela.
[20:18] <Jaela> "We didn't have much of a disagreement," Jaela responds with another nod, this one to Ebony. "Just minor things on semantics, here and there."
[20:24] <Kotono> "It's nice when you agree," Ebony remarks, "We tend to think the highest of those who agree with us, after all."
[20:25] * Jaela doesn't think she'll pretend to agree just for the sake of being thought highly of, so she just hopes the others she comes across share her opinions. "Right. Onwards, then?" She smiles down at Mirajane. "If you get tired, just let me know. I'll carry you."
[20:32] <Kotono> roll 1d100
[20:32] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d100 and gets 77." [1d100=77]
[20:34] <Kotono> A few more hours pass - until at last you see it! The mountainslope slackens slightly into a path leading off the beach and to the mountain above!
[20:35] <Jaela> "An invitation~" Jaela grins at Mirajane. "Isn't that nice?"
[20:37] <Kotono> Mirajane yawns at this, tugging on Jaela's legs, "Carry?" she asks.
[20:39] * Jaela picks her up with a far fonder smile, and lets her settle in the crook of her arm. Her current cloak is the smoothest she had ever worn, and regularly cleaned with magic, so she uses some of it as a convenient pillow for Mirajane's head.
[20:43] <Kotono> Soon as you ascend, Mirajane falls asleep. In a quiet voice as you walk up, "Do you mind a small question?" Ebony asks.
[20:43] <Jaela> "Sure."
[20:48] <Kotono> "Why did you bring Mirajane here?" she asks. "There's not anything wrong with coming here, but..." Letting it trail away with a quietness, "A child's innocense it its own wisdom."
[20:50] <Jaela> "I don't want a little copy of myself," Jaela responds. "I mean, this--" She gestures with her free arm about herself. "It's about the only thing that's both right and that I can't give her myself. So I figure it's my best way to provide a balanced education to her."
[20:53] <Kotono> To that Ebony merely nods, falling into silence. OOC: Good with moving along?
[20:54] <Jaela> OOC: Yes
[20:58] <Kotono> A few hours of climbing. Steady climbing - not too hard yet, but slowly and slowly up. Ahead you can see a cave entrance in the side of the mountain, lit by torches.
[21:00] <Jaela> She is glowing enough to not require any torches, and Ebony can easily match that. "Every climb is different," Jaela muses, proceeding inside. "So you never came this way before?"
[21:02] <Kotono> "No, but I have risen up before," Ebony replies, "This is more likely to be your test - or even perhaps Mirajane's test."
[21:02] <Jaela> "To see if she can sleep through this?"
[21:03] <Kotono> That draws the faintest look of disapproval from Ebony, though she holds her tongue.
[21:05] * Jaela laughs quietly. "Don't worry. When it's time, Mirajane will prove herself. She's a good girl, and a smart girl!"
[21:07] <Kotono> Inside you find an angel. She is human sized and nude, flaming red hair spilling down her back, bone straight. She holds an small, apple sized orb in one hand, seemingly enraptured in study of it.
[21:09] <Jaela> "Will she be offended if I offer her something to wear?" Jaela whispers to Ebony.
[21:10] <Kotono> Ebony shrugs lightly in reply.
[21:11] <Jaela> "Hello."
[21:13] <Kotono> The angel's eyes - a beautiful blue - turn from the orb, "Hello," she greets, "Do you seek something from me?"
[21:16] <Jaela> "First of all, we are visiting so it seemed right to say hello," Jaela muses. "Secondly, Celestia seems to want us to stop by, so I was hoping that you might have some idea yourself as to why." She coughs. "And thirdly, if you are cold or in some way uncomfortable, I could give you clothes?"
[21:18] <Kotono> "I have no need for such things," Shaking her head, "I am studying this orb of my heart. In it is the ability to call on the magic of the divine, and when I decipher the secret within, all clerical magic will be mine."
[21:19] <Jaela> "Who are you following?" Jaela asks. Normally, there would be some way to tell by the symbols, but with naked people....
[21:22] <Kotono> "I follow the holy mountain," the angel replies, "I have studied this six days and today is the seventh day. Soon I will have that magic - I believe the orb is ready to bestow its gift."
[21:25] <Jaela> "Is it alright if we watch?" Jaela asks. "Would we get in the way?"
[21:26] <Kotono> "If you like," she says, "Surely you came here for a reason."
[21:28] <Jaela> "Some lessons you learn by watching others." Jaela shrugs. "And it's just a few hours, no reason not to try."
[21:37] <Kotono> As Ebony settles into watch she maintains her quiet, as Mirajane sleeps away. OOC: Just going to watch'n'awit for now?
[21:40] <Jaela> OOC: Sure. Until Mirajane wakes up or a few hours pass or something happens
[21:46] <Kotono> About two hours pass - or is it three? Hard to tell waiting! The orb slowly glows brighter and brighter! As it does Jaela can hear a sweet song. Whispers of knowledge, of magic, all hers. Calling her. She can hear this song, promising her great power in an instant and with ease.
[21:47] * Jaela rolls her eye. Great power she already has. And ease? Please, when had she ever gotten anything quickly or easily?
[21:53] <Kotono> The song lessons in her ears, as light begins to surround the angel! A glorious, deep light, blinding bright!
[21:55] <Jaela> She can always keep track of things with her blindsight, but Jaela feels it would do the angel injustice. So she keeps her visible eye on her for as long as she is able. Should it get blinded, she will just switch her eyepatch until she gets her eye properly fixed.
[22:04] <Kotono> The light doesn't last too long. Standing before you is a planetar - a type of angel Jaela knows well. The previous angel is transformed now, glorious and bright, "I am born," she whispers.
[22:05] <Jaela> "Congratulations!"
[22:10] <Kotono> "Thank you," she says, as light spills in from outside," She looks that way, "Light from above," she murmurs. "A fair omen."
[22:13] <Jaela> "It is," Jaela agrees. She shakes her head. "Never expected I'd see something like this. Thanks for the privelege! Maybe you'd end up stopping by like that for me one day?"
<Steph> I might have made a terrible mistake

[19:49] <Kotono> Really, some rest after a trip to the Far Realm is in order. After a long, hot bath Afina ends up in her quarters. A nap happens - blissfully free of the sound of flutes. On going out of her room and off to do things after, you find Balyss awaiting you. "Hey Afina," she calls.
[19:49] <Afina> "Ah, hello Balyss," Afina smiles, seeming in quite good cheer as she stops in the air before their lunatic priestess. "Need me for something?"
[19:53] <Kotono> "I heard from Sylvie you made it back from beyond," Balyss says, "I wanted to give you a look over."
[19:55] <Afina> "Oh, I don't mind," Afina nods, "I haven't felt anything strange since we saw Priest, but a second check won't hurt. Do you want to go to the hospital, then? Or do it in my room?"
[19:57] <Kotono> "Your room is fine." Balyss steps forward, "I already gave Sylvie a check over, but I'd rather be sure after hearing her story. Did she really..." A look down at her own chest, making a rather pale and twitchy face, her wings even flapping up and down.
[19:59] * Afina winces at the recollection. "Yes, and that was just from me casting water breathing on her," she confirms, heading back into the room she just emerged from and alighting on the never slept upon bed to await Balyss's instructions and questions for her checkup.
[20:00] <Kotono> "Go ahead and undress," Balyss begins, "I'll start with a healer's arts and work my way up to magic."
[20:03] <Afina> Not having much modesty, Afina doffs her hat and takes off her slippers before she shimmies out of her dress, stick-thin body revealed bare before Balyss, with skin that brings to mind a cooked lobster. But nothing unnatural for her.
[20:04] <Kotono> "Geez," Crossing her arms as she gives Afina a long look over, "My first order is for you to eat more.  You're too thin! You're like a pint sized starving elf."
[20:07] <Afina> "Anything I eat just goes right through me," Afina retorts, crossing her arms over her flat chest. "This is just the way I am."
[20:09] <Kotono> "Eat more," Balyss crosses her own arms under her much larger chest, before in a more reasonable, honeyed tone, "You'll grow everywhere, including there," With a pointed look at her chest, "You look malnourished."
[20:09] <Afina> "I don't even need to eat since I'm not a fey anymore," Afina mutters mutinously, "But fine, I'll have a big breakfast if it'll make you happy."
[20:13] <Kotono> "We'll see to that after this," Balyss agrees, "But if you eat more and believe you're filling out, it may just happen." Going over and putting a single finger on Afina's neck - COLD! - "A steady, slow pulse. About what I'd expect from a creature that's not mortal." Her hand goes down to Afina's back, in between her wings, "Take several deep breaths in and out," she says, "Well, have
[20:13] <Kotono> you been eating at all now that you don't need to?"
[20:16] <Afina> Shivering slightly and looking disbelievingly at Balyss's finger afterwards - did she put ice on it or something? - Afina obediently takes a few deep, slow and steady breaths as ordered. "Only somethimes. And I haven't gotten any thinner."
[20:20] <Kotono> "Try maintaining your old diet and increase it slightly. See if that does anything." Pausing as Afina does as requested, "Nothing odd in your lungs. They're strong for a creature your size. Tell me, what is your typical diet?"
[20:21] <Afina> "Now or what it used to be?" Afina clarifies, starting to wonder if this has anything at all to do with Far Realm mutations.
[20:25] <Kotono> "Both," Balyss answers, chanting low a few moments, waving her hand in front of her eyes as the flash transparent, a moment of all the veins in them becoming visible. "This next is using a spell to see your inner body. Nothing seems to be wrong on the outside, so I'm going to take a closer look inside." Peering right at Afina, "While I do that, answer my question."
[20:26] <Kotono> roll 1d20+35
[20:26] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20+35 and gets 44." [1d20=9]
[20:28] <Afina> "Now I just have some milk and honey when I feel like it," Afina replies. "On Aurora I had the same, lots of bread with jam, mostly fruits with some root vegetables for variety." She'd rather not think about what she ate to survive on Gehenna...
[20:35] <Kotono> "So fruit, vegetables and grains?" Balyss asks, "No meats?" Taking Afina's hand and peering it at closely, holding it up for close inspection, "Personal choice or a taboo?"
[20:36] <Afina> "I kill enough without having to kill what I eat," Afina mutters as Balyss takes her hand, spreading her fingers out.
[20:38] <Kotono> "Personal," Balyss says, "I won't order you to go against your beliefs, but if you're willing, try some. Food of all types is important." Frowning at the last of that, squinting at Afina's hand, "I think we have a problem."
[20:42] <Afina> Before she can reply any to the food comment, Afina's eyes widen and she looks at her hand as well. "What is it?"
[20:44] <Kotono> "There's tiny growths on this hand, burrowed into your hand's bones." Squinting, "Like tiny lines of green."
[20:47] <Afina> Green's a good colour, isn't it? "Well what are they doing? This is the hand I usually cast spells with while I hold my sword in the other, do you think that could have anything to do with it?"
[20:49] <Kotono> "They're highly irregular and the same color as the tentacles Sylvie mentioned," Balyss explains as she continues to look. "She mentioned it happened when you cast a spell on her. Was this the hand you touched her with?"
[20:53] * Afina nods. "Should we amputate?" she asks, not so squeamish about it when regeneration magic is so close at hand.
[20:55] <Kotono> "Let's not go that far yet," Balyss asks, "Let me try a few spells first. I'll see if removing it as a disease does anything."
[20:56] <Afina> "Alright, I'm putting myself in your hands," Afina tells Balyss seriously.
[21:00] <Kotono> For some reason that draws a real smile out of Balyss, lasting on a moment or two before she shakes her head and chuckles. Holding her holy symbol, "Selune," she whispers, "Moonlight banish sickness!" Afterwards she frowns, "Nothing. Selune, moonlight banish venom!" A beat, "Nothing. Selune, moonlight banish curses!" A beat, "Nothing again. "The basics didn't work. I'll try a Heal spell
[21:00] <Kotono> next."
[21:03] <Afina> "Had one yesterday but no harm in trying," Afina allows, glad Balyss at least seems to respect the trust Afina is showing in her abilities.
[21:05] <Kotono> "Selune, moonlight cleanse the body and restore!" Balyss chants, as warmth fills Afina! After she takes her hand again and peers, "...now that I wasn't expecting," she says.
[21:06] <Afina> "What?" Afina asks. Unexpected things are bad!
[21:08] <Kotono> "They're bigger," Balyss says, shaking her head, "They're moving now, too...like tentacles." Adding the last with a frown, "Almost like a parasite, syphoning off energy from you."
[21:10] <Afina> "Amputation time!" Afina blurts out. "Come on, we need a cold iron blade from the armoury, lets hurry," Afina says, throwing on her dress.
[21:11] <Kotono> Balyss blinks, "You're awfully eager to get mutilated," with a dubious tone, "Have you been spending time with Dana?"
[21:12] <Afina> "You never saw those tentacles, Balyss," Afina retorts firmly. "What if they grow up my arm and infest the rest of me?"
[21:14] <Kotono> "I was going to try a divination first for advice on the next step." Balyss says, "If you're willing to wait for that, we may save you the trouble of getting a new hand."
[21:15] <Afina> "Okay but if tentacles start growing out of me you'll be their first target," Afina warns, forcing herself to be patient.
[21:20] <Kotono> "Right. Now come on." Afina is lead to the shrine to Selune, where Balyss stays in prayer - perhaps two minutes. She is stone still until it ends, abruptly rising to her feet. All her humor is gone, "I just got marching orders from above," she announces, "What's within you could potentially destroy Creation simply by existing, if it's allowed to continue growing."
[21:21] <Afina> "I knew it!" Afina blurts out, "So amputation then disintegration?"
[21:24] <Kotono> "Not quite." Balyss replies, "We're going to work here in this sanctified grouns. We're going to go through ceremonies preparing for your hand to be removed and then a Miracle to destroy the creature within. No other divine magic is powerful enough, even now. If it lives much longer, it will take yet more force to hope to destroy it."
[21:26] <Afina> "Well, lets get too it, then," Afina nods jerkily, eager to snuff this thing out before it can destroy reality.
[21:33] <Kotono> With that, Afina is set through preparations. Her incubated hand is blessed, annointed and brushed with holy oils. Balyss oversees it, constantly calling on Selune to guide and bless this. The holy space is sealed off from others, only the two of you in here. Finally, "It's time," Balyss announces, coming to the altar. "Fly up and place your hand here," she says, withdrawing a sharp
[21:33] <Kotono> cleaver of cold iron. "I'll try and do this in one stroke so the pain is minimal. Try and pay attention after, in case something goes wrong or whatever this is does something."
[21:36] <Afina> "I will," Afina promises, flying up and planting her palm on the altar, gritting her teeth in anticipation of the intense pain to come.
[21:38] <Kotono> Bowing her head, "Forgive me for spilling blood in this holy place," Balyss prays, "I'm so sorry, Moonmaiden. I'm sorry that I couldn't stop this in another way. Forgive me." Wiping tears from her eyes with a solemn expression, Balyss raises the cleaver high!
[21:39] <Afina> "Even if the moon doesn't forgive you, I will," Afina offers as the cleaver is raised, tensing after but forcing herself to watch.
[21:43] <Kotono> It's two things. The sound of a cleaver tearing through flesh and bone with a meaty thunk combined with utter agony! Blood sprays out of Afina's severed arm stump, the pain all consuming as a sense of panic, loss and agony rip through her! Her hand! It's a primal thing, shaking her to the core! Meanwhile Balyss drops the cleaver as the altar is stained red, "Selune!" she calls, "Hear
[21:43] <Kotono> your servant's plea and intervene!" Silvery moonlight fills the entire area, "Return this abomination to oblivion!"
[21:43] <Kotono> OOC: 40 points of damage to Afina.
[21:45] <Afina> "Fggnngh!" Afina makes an inarticulare noise of agony, knees buckling as she raises her blooded stump, looking at her detached hand with a sense of unreality to having lost a part of her that's always been there.
[21:48] <Kotono> Amid this the moonlight shines down on the hand! It catches aflame with moonfire, crackling and burning! For several moments it does just that, until the hand turns green! Tentacles come out from it all over, reacing out as it takes ot the air despite being aflame with moonfire! "Abomination," Balyss growls, holding her holy symbol, "Return to the oblivion that created you! You have no
[21:48] <Kotono> place in this Creation!" Her voice is loud - echoing around you - and yet, even ablaze, the hand is not destroyed! The tentacles reach out, starting to lash out at the duo! OOC: Init.
[21:49] <Afina> roll 1d20+25
[21:49] * Hatbot --> "Afina rolls 1d20+25 and gets 37." [1d20=12]
[21:49] <Kotono> roll 1d20+3 Balyss
[21:49] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20+3 Balyss and gets 8." [1d20=5]
[21:49] <Kotono> roll 1d20+10 hand
[21:49] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20+10 hand and gets 14." [1d20=4]
[21:49] * Kotono changes topic to 'Afina(37)>Hand(14)>Balyss(8)'
[21:49] <Kotono> OOC: Go Afina.
[21:52] <Afina> Hasting herself and Balyss, that spell so ingrained she can cast it even in such agony and without her usual casting hand, Afina draws Afame and flies around the altar, stabbing her former hand repeatedly!
[21:53] <Afina> roll 1d20+49 8th level arcane strike
[21:53] * Hatbot --> "Afina rolls 1d20+49 8th level arcane strike and gets 56." [1d20=7]
[21:53] <Afina> roll 1d20+44 8th level arcane strike
[21:53] * Hatbot --> "Afina rolls 1d20+44 8th level arcane strike and gets 58." [1d20=14]
[21:53] <Kotono> OOC: Two hits.
[21:53] <Afina> roll 1d4+20+5d6+6d6+2d6+8d4
[21:53] * Hatbot --> "Afina rolls 1d4+20+5d6+6d6+2d6+8d4 and gets 95." [1d4=2][5d6=6, 6, 2, 4, 6][6d6=5, 2, 3, 2, 4, 5][2d6=6, 4][8d4=2, 2, 1, 1, 3, 2, 4, 3]
[21:53] <Afina> roll 1d4+20+5d6+6d6+2d6+8d4
[21:53] * Hatbot --> "Afina rolls 1d4+20+5d6+6d6+2d6+8d4 and gets 102." [1d4=4][5d6=5, 5, 5, 6, 4][6d6=1, 6, 5, 2, 5, 2][2d6=4, 5][8d4=4, 1, 4, 4, 3, 3, 1, 3]
[21:58] <Kotono> The blade rips into the mass of tentacles, setting them ablaze with her own fire! They writhe about in the moonfire, many dying as yet more come out - and one lashes out at Afina! Yet it isn't a tentacle - it is her own face, and another face and another and another, each coming out of the mouth of the last, slightly bigger each time! By the time it reaches Afina, a gaping maw of her
[21:58] <Kotono> own teeth bigger than she is is trying to bite her open as a tentacle lashes out in place of her tongue!
[21:58] <Kotono> roll 1d20+21 bite
[21:58] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20+21 bite and gets 38." [1d20=17]
[21:58] <Kotono> roll 1d20+21 tentacle
[21:58] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20+21 tentacle and gets 40." [1d20=19]
[22:03] <Kotono> But Afina is far too fast, as those mouths are consumed in moonfire and crumble away! Balyss points forward, as a cone of beautiful moonfire comes out to efurther engulf the tentacle-hand!
[22:03] <Kotono> roll 1d20+20
[22:03] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20+20  and gets 22." [1d20=2]
[22:04] <Kotono> But the spell utterly crumbles against it, instead turning to ripping blue light that wildly caroms about! OOC: Go Afina.
[22:06] * Afina keeps rely on trusty stabbing, flying rings around the rogue appendage and piercing it with Afame at every opportunity!
[22:06] <Afina> roll 1d20+48 7th level arcane strike
[22:06] * Hatbot --> "Afina rolls 1d20+48 7th level arcane strike and gets 60." [1d20=12]
[22:06] <Afina> roll 1d20+43 7th level arcane strike
[22:06] * Hatbot --> "Afina rolls 1d20+43 7th level arcane strike and gets 52." [1d20=9]
[22:06] <Kotono> OOC: Two hits.

[22:06] * Hatbot --> "Afina rolls 1d20+48 7th level arcane strike using skirmish boots and gets 52." [1d20=4]
[22:06] <Kotono> OOC: Thre ehits.

[22:06] <Afina> roll 1d4+20+5d6+6d6+2d6+7d4

[22:07] <Kotono> Stab after stab takes the hand! It twitches and bursts aflame twice over, moonfire and other flame stoo much! It is rapidly consumed, reduced to nothing - not even ash! As it vanishes so does the moonlight, only leaving behind pain and silence.
[22:07] <Kotono> OOC: Free act.
[22:09] <Afina> "Is that it?" Afina asks, moving to cradle her bloodied stump and slowing down her wingbeats to land on the altar.
[22:09] <Kotono> Sighing in relief, "Thank you," she murmurs with her head in prayer. After, "Well," she says with a hint of a smile, "We had that problem well in hand! I'd say we're handy at dealing with these things. Now, come here and I'll regenerate you, and then we can clean up."
[22:11] <Afina> "If you keep making hand puns I'll want a new doctor," Afina complains, but nonetheless sheathes her sword and approaches Balyss with stump extended.

[19:57] <Kotono> "When the holy mountain deems it so," The angel replies, "Now I must go. I am being called - new duties await me."
[19:59] <Jaela> "Well I was hoping you might just feel like it--" Jaela stops herself with a shrug. "Sure thing! Have fun with that!"
[20:22] <Kotono> Ebony watches the angel go as well, only turning to Jaela once she's gone. "Are you ready?" she asks.
[20:24] <Jaela> "To continue?" Jaela asks. "Yes."
[20:32] <Kotono> As you head back out, "Duty is eternal," Ebony says, "Not out of meaningless grind, for every step in a holy duty has meaning. Not out of blind deference for authority, for they instead understand and guide you in ways you cannot yet understand. Not out of endless toil, for a righteous duty it a reverie of its own."
[20:35] <Jaela> "Was that the normal way for someone to transform into a planetar?" Jaela asks curiously, nodding at Ebony's words.
[20:38] <Kotono> "I'm not familiar with every method, though I do know each realm adn divinity has its own styles," Ebony says as you step back out on the path, "Promotion is an intensely spiritual journey for us. While we need enough growth and power to satisfy the new strata, we more need the proper spiritual and personal growth to enable it."
[20:40] <Jaela> "Hmm." Jaela is content to walk the path in silence for a while, before she asks, "Do you think it's always a promotion, this sort of transformation? Say that angel gets promoted again, so she's gonna become a solar?"
[20:47] <Kotono> "Yes," Ebony says, "I fully believe that any celestial that promotes is ready and desirious of a promotion. That said, there are other paths. Antenora is not part of the typical castes - she is a unique angel. If a spirit desires nothing more than to maintain at the level of a deva or a lantern archon, there is no shame in that and they will not be forced to promote."
[20:49] <Jaela> "Can you explain this part? I mean, why it's a promotion?" Jaela muses. "The mind and spirit remain the same, I figure. Sure, you can get smarter or what not, but you can be rewarded with insight like that even without a transformation. It's one thing if these are ranks, but say I become a planetar some day. Promotions is something that puts you ahead, yeah? So how would it do that for me?"
[20:50] <Kotono> Ebony pauses a moment, "You mean how does it promote you? I don't quite grasp the aim of your question."
[20:52] <Jaela> "Mmm." Jaela nods for good measure. "I mean, we're talking about the same thing, aren't we? The promotion is both a reward to you for good service, and something that advances you so that you'll keep on doing good work in the future. So that suggests becoming a planetar would be good for me in all sorts of ways. But I'm not sure how it'd do that for me."
[20:56] <Kotono> "That simply means you aren't ready," Ebony says, "Wisdom and understanding come with time. There's no shame in that. It may be that your path never takes you in that direction."
[20:58] * Jaela snorts. "When someone asks for an explanation, they hope to get one to understand it. Getting told it's not worth the breath explaining?" She grins at Ebony. "That's just cold!"
[21:00] <Kotono> "I said that?" Ebony quirks an eyebrow up.
[21:01] <Jaela> "Not being ready for a promotion and not being able to comprehend what one would mean are two different things, I figure."
[21:24] <Kotono> "They're interlinked, since so much of the meaning isn't just more power or spells," Ebony points out, "It's a spiritual journey, remember."
[21:25] <Jaela> "That's really my question, though, at its core. Is there actually anything different between me and a planetar, spiritually?"
[21:35] <Kotono> "Yes," Ebony says at last, with some thought, "Besides the dint of much greater experience and time, as well as wisdom hard earned and learned. Beyond that it is harder to say - Planetars are not one monolith you can compare them to you."
[21:36] <Jaela> "Okay."
[21:39] <Kotono> OOC: Ready to move along now?
[21:39] <Jaela> OOC: Sure
[21:46] <Kotono> Soon enough the upwards path takes you to a sharper rise. Here a single angel stands. She carries a mace and is wrapped in snow and sunlight woven into raiments. "Hold," she calls as Jaela and party approach.
[21:47] <Jaela> Finding herself approving of angels that take the time to cloth themselves in public, Jaela does as requested. "Hello," she greets the other angel as she comes to a halt.
[21:53] <Kotono> "Ahead lies Mercuria, the Golden Heaven." The angel announces, body that of light and joy more than form. It's hard to look at her, despite her apperance making irrepressible joy pass through Jaela.
[21:55] * Jaela nods slightly in acknowledgement. "May we pass?" she asks, deciding to go for the diplomatic route.

[19:53] <Kotono> OOC: Okay. Now that your hand issue is sorted out, does Afina have a next move?
[19:57] <Afina> OOC: since she lacks effective abilities to go to Lifasa for personal reconaissance, she does the next best thing! Consulting records of Abraxaim and Calixin's interrogations (http://www.soulriders.net/forum/index.php/topic,101967.msg1030637.html#msg1030637) she gets the names of devils they know of that are personally involved in taking care of the Wailing Tree for planar binding and
[19:57] <Afina> interrogation.
[20:22] <Kotono> OOC: Are you aiming for anything in particular here or just fishing?
[20:23] <Afina> OOC: to get information on the defences of the Tree and mechanisms behind its ability to channel energy
[20:24] <Kotono> OOC: Okay. Refresh me on planar binding. Does it allow SR? What's the HD you're aiming for?
[20:26] <Afina> OOC: I can get up to 12hd, allows SR and a will save.
[20:34] <Kotono> OOC: Okay. We'll go down the list. The first name of Valaches, an erinyes who helps with the defense of the tree. Set yourself up and roll sR.
[20:35] <Afina> OOC: first of all can Elena/Galariel set up exclusions to Aurora's dimensional anchor?
[20:39] <Kotono> OOC: No. Probably could be done as an upgrade, though.
[20:40] <Afina> OOC: in that case I need to go elsewhere. I'll grab Simmer and Crystal and we'll go to Fire to do it.
[20:47] <Kotono> OOC: Okay. Goign to protect Crystal against fire or should she get someone to cast protection on hre?
[20:48] <Afina> OOC: I can give her fire resistance, or if she wants I can make her a half-fire elemental.
[20:50] <Kotono> OOC: She'll take the res. Okay, I'll set you up.

[20:51] <Kotono> The three shift over to the endless heat of Fire. For Afina it's like coming home, plains of burning fire and gassy air all around. Simmer sighs and stretches, on tip toes and as if basking. Crystal contents herself with looking around for the moment. OOC: Go ahead.
[20:56] <Afina> "Mmm... feels exposed here, but I suppose we're as likely to be bothered here as anywhere else," Afina murmurs, looking around. "I'll draw the circle first, this should take about ten minutes, then the binding another ten after that. Keep an eye out for anyone else while I work, will you?" she asks, starting to carve deep gashes in the mostly solid plain underneath...
[20:56] <Afina> roll 1d20+35 spellcraft
[20:56] * Hatbot --> "Afina rolls 1d20+35 spellcraft and gets 43." [1d20=8]
[20:58] <Kotono> OOC: What's the spellcraft for?
[20:59] <Afina> OOC: to make the circle. The DC is 20 so it's a formality, really.
[21:00] <Kotono> OOC: Okay right.
[21:00] <Kotono> Simmer does that as Crystal stays a little closer. "Speak when you're ready," Crystal says, "In case things go wrong."
[21:02] <Afina> "Done," Afina says after forming the circle. "The first devil we're going to summon is an erinyes called Valaches, who serves in the defence of the Elven Tree. Don't bother with questions now, though - we have time for that back on Aurora. Going to start the binding now, remember ten minutes."
[21:02] <Afina> roll 1d20+20 SR
[21:02] * Hatbot --> "Afina rolls 1d20+20 SR and gets 25." [1d20=5]
[21:07] <Afina> OOC: DC 29 will
[21:20] <Kotono> roll 1d20+12
[21:20] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20+12 and gets 28." [1d20=16]
[21:21] <Kotono> In the circle a shape of darkness, slowly gaining definition! The shape of an angel appears in the circle, before the runes turn bloody red and ooze blood. In the circlet a beautiful erinyes appears, all green and black hair and yet too haggard to be truly beautiful.
[21:22] <Afina> roll 1d20+35 what does my circle bleeding portend? (spellcraft)
[21:22] * Hatbot --> "Afina rolls 1d20+35 what does my circle bleeding portend? (spellcraft) and gets 49." [1d20=14]
[21:24] <Kotono> OOC: Just an effect of the particular erinyes most likely, but it could also be an illomen.
[21:26] <Afina> "Valaches, you will answer for your crimes against Lifasa. The sentence is death, deferred until you have provided everything we can tear from your mind," Afina tells the devil curtly before surging forward to incapacitate her!
[21:26] <Afina> roll 1d20+25 init
[21:26] * Hatbot --> "Afina rolls 1d20+25 init and gets 36." [1d20=11]
[21:30] <Kotono> OOC: Go ahead and go, see if you KO her since she can't beat that init.
[21:30] <Afina> roll 1d20+47 7th level arcane strike
[21:30] * Hatbot --> "Afina rolls 1d20+47 7th level arcane strike and gets 50." [1d20=3]
[21:30] <Afina> roll 1d20+427th level arcane strike
[21:30] * Hatbot --> "Afina rolls 1d20+427th level arcane strike and gets Error: Numeric values only." [1d20=13]
[21:30] <Afina> roll 1d20+42 7th level arcane strike
[21:30] * Hatbot --> "Afina rolls 1d20+42 7th level arcane strike and gets 61." [1d20=19]
[21:31] <Afina> OOC: -4 on those for nonlethal
[21:31] <Afina> OOC: also call the second attack 55, I don't want to take a crit on a reroll that wasn't needed
[21:32] <Afina> roll 1d4+20+5d6+6d6+2d6+7d4
[21:32] * Hatbot --> "Afina rolls 1d4+20+5d6+6d6+2d6+7d4 and gets 90." [1d4=2][5d6=1, 2, 3, 6, 3][6d6=6, 1, 3, 6, 4, 3][2d6=6, 6][7d4=4, 4, 3, 3, 2, 1, 1]
[21:32] <Afina> roll 1d4+20+5d6+6d6+2d6+7d4
[21:32] * Hatbot --> "Afina rolls 1d4+20+5d6+6d6+2d6+7d4 and gets 76." [1d4=1][5d6=2, 4, 2, 2, 6][6d6=3, 1, 1, 2, 3, 2][2d6=1, 6][7d4=4, 4, 4, 2, 1, 2, 3]
[21:32] <Kotono> OOC: Nonlethal mod added?
[21:33] <Afina> OOC: 51 after the -4
[21:38] <Kotono> In a sudden, overwhelming rush, Afina clubs the erinyes down! She crumbles down, the flat of her blade sending the erinyes to unawareness! OOC: ACt.
[21:39] <Afina> "The blood forming from my magic circle is an ill omen. Lets take this one back to Aurora rather than risk trouble following it," Afina tells Simmer and Crystal, going to stand over the fallen erinyes and waiting on her fellows to join her before plane shifting them back to Aurora.
[21:45] <Kotono> OOC: What's your plan. Lock her up and...?
[21:46] <Afina> OOC: get Vul'lath to probe thoughts on her so we can ask questions about the defences of the Elven Tree.
[21:51] <Kotono> OOC: Okay.
[21:51] <Kotono> As you prepare with Sage Vul'lath, he gives you a brief look, "What questions will be asked?"
[21:52] <Afina> "Start with asking as to her own responsibilities, that will give us a true picture of how the majority of defenders should be arrayed. We can work from there," she asks, fluttering beside the githyanki scholar.

[19:52] <Kotono> "You may," The angel stands aside, "Advance forward."
[19:53] * Jaela gives her a grateful nod and proceeds onwards.
[20:00] <Kotono> Thus you advance - ahead of you are plains with hints of snow, the air colder. The sky above and around is golden, light all about. Ebony pauses here and looks up at the sky, "Tombs of many great heroes can be found here, as well as libraries - though not ot the degree as the next layer."
[20:01] <Jaela> "And I figure that if Celestia wants us to stumble onto one, we'll get a nudge in the right direction?" Jaela muses.
[20:06] <Kotono> "Most likely," Ebony says as she begins to walk. "Not far from here is a radiant dome of ice like clear crystal," Ebony says, "Yet it is not cold at all, but warm and comfortable. Would you care to visit? It's an alluring sight."
[20:06] <Jaela> "Sure thing!"
[20:06] <Kotono> roll 1d100
[20:06] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d100 and gets 60." [1d100=60]
[20:08] <Kotono> The trip takes perhaps an hour. Mirajane sleeps all through it, quite tuckered out. The doom stands amid a small snowdrift, all clear ice that's just opaque enough to hide what lies within. The entire structure dances with light - it comes from above in a great beam, refracting through the entire dome. Yet the dome does not turn it into rainbows, but instead the light stays perfectly pearly
[20:08] <Kotono> white.
[20:10] * Jaela steps inside to take a look at Celestia through the walls of the dome. It has to be safe, due to its location, so she doesn't worry about the beam of light doing anything untoward to her even as she stands directly beneath it.
[20:12] <Kotono> The light is beautiful as you head into the dome. All is lit here, utterly radiant. Smooth circular stools of white stone are about to sit on if you care to. Within the light, near the center, an angel kneels in prayer. He is mostly hidden by the light, but from his stature you can tell him larger than a human.
[20:13] * Jaela decides to take a seat on the stool nearest to the other angel. If he notices her, she can greet him properly then. Perhaps she could even experience standing underneath the light herself.
[20:18] <Kotono> Ebony follows. The angel does not stay knelt much longer. He instead rises, turning to Jaela and approaching. The figure that approaches is familiar to you. Morniel approaches, radiant in the light and seeming so much more than before. His presence is palpable, his gaze seemingly aflame in the light. "Jaela," he greets, "This light forces you to face every sin you have ever committed."
[20:20] <Jaela> "Never been afraid to face up to that." She carefully hands Mirajane over to Ebony, before giving Morniel another look. "Didn't expect to run into you here. Are you on assignment, or visiting?"
[20:21] <Kotono> "Becoming," Morniel's voice is more - a natural command in every word. There is a terrible, burning sense of authority from him, "As willed by Tyr and guided by the Hebdomad."
[20:24] <Jaela> "Duty, then," Jaela asserts with a nod, stepping into the spot Morniel had vacated and kneeling there as he had, hands clasped in prayer. "I expected as much in Celestia, but didn't want to guess."
[20:29] <Kotono> Around Jaela, her memories return to life! Moment after moment is replayed - jealousies and hatreds, little thefts and acts of malice, feelings of resentment, lust and laziness.
[20:32] <Jaela> She was really too young to know any better for any thefts, Jaela insists to herself. But she doesn't really try to excuse anything else. Rather, accepting her actions, taking responsibility for them and learning from them to try and do better in the future is what she can hope for with this as a teaching aide.
[20:43] <Kotono> Amid herself, the storm of memories slows down. With acceptance and understanding, Jaela feels peace come to her.
[20:44] * Jaela takes a deep breath and just looks about herself at Celestia's glory surrounding her.
[20:49] <Kotono> Resting, Jaela begins to feel her mind drift. Drifting into worlds of thought, worlds where she reflects. Unity - is that not what she has sought? Unity against Hell, unity to stand together, unity to become greater than alone?
[20:52] <Jaela> It doesn't sound quite right, but Jaela is willing to explore where that thought might lead her. One thing is certain, that being that remaining static and afraid to try anything new won't get her anywhere.
[21:03] <Kotono> Jaela finds herself thinking and wondering - why stand apart when what she seeks is that order?
[21:08] <Jaela> If unity can advance the cause of their Crusade better, then unity is what she will try to see if it works better than their current methods.
[21:10] <Kotono> The reverie slowly dissolves, as Jaela's awareness of what is around her returns in earnest. Ebony waits, holding Mirajane. Morniel is nearby as well, watching.
[21:12] <Jaela> "Where are you headed next?" Jaela asks Morniel.
[21:14] <Kotono> "Aurora," Morniel says, "I realize that I will forever become. There is no end to our growth."
[21:16] * Jaela gives him a slight nod. "I intend to continue as far up the Holy Mountain as I'm allowed and time permits. Can I trust you to look into our potential reinforcements from the Triad? We may only have days before we strike at our enemies again, and even unintegrated into the rest of the forces they could serve as our reserve."
[21:20] <Kotono> "Yes," Morniel replies, "That I will do."
[21:21] * Jaela smiles at him, taking Mirajane back from Ebony. "Until we meet again, then, Morniel." She glances at Ebony to see if the other angel also wants to contemplate things in that light. If not, then they will proceed.
[21:27] <Kotono> Ebony shakes her head minutely. As you go out, "I've done it before." Looking ahead as you walk, "While it can often provide new insights, I am currently digesting the ones that have come from the end of my mortal life."
[21:28] <Jaela> "Makes sense."

[19:57] <Kotono> "Alright," Sage Vul'lath replies, concentrating!
[19:57] <Kotono> roll 1d20+12 will
[19:57] * Hatbot --> "Kotono rolls 1d20+12 will and gets 17." [1d20=5]
[19:57] <Kotono> "Her responsibilities are to help oversee the restless spirits and defense of the tree," he answers right away.
[20:00] * Afina nods, scribbling this onto Valaches' interrogation report. "Ask now for the quantity and quality of the defences in place?"
[20:04] <Kotono> A dour nod is your reply, Sage Vul'lath frowning as the answer seems to go on a bit. "It matches what we knew already," he announces, "But with finer details, including knowledge of an independent group of gelugons. It also includes forces from Operation Full Liberation." A slight scowl of distaste, "I recall reading of that."
[20:08] <Afina> "Yes..." Afina brings it up from memory, "Capturing free Lifasans and binding them to the tree. Ask for the condition of the souls bound to the tree? I want to know if they have any agency and if we can expect hostility, or if there's any chance to save them."
[20:11] <Kotono> After a few moments, "They can be saved only by destroying the tree and undoing the curses laid down there," he says, "The souls have agency, and yet it only exists to be smothered by the will of Baator. They strive and try, but are damned to fail save when they submit to the will of Hell."
[20:12] <Afina> "Right, we'll come back to that in a moment," Afina nods decisively, "For now ask what it knows about the devil capability for directing energy from the tree."
[20:15] <Kotono> Another pause, "They can direct it at will and output considerable quantities of unholy power," Sage Vul'lath explains, "Are you familiar with the reagent known as Liquid Pain? It is distilled suffering used by particularly vile creatures as a way to enhance their spells. I believe it follows some of the same principals. The suffering, pain and all the other negative emotions of the
[20:15] <Kotono> damned are gathered."
[20:18] <Afina> "How does it manifest? Like a more powerful unholy blight spell or does it empower the devils and anything they cast themselves?" Afina asks, since one is easier to deal with than the other.
[20:19] <Kotono> A pause again, "The former," he says, "Though on a vastly greater level of power and range. Imagine that if one tormented soul can become a ghost and ten can turn a castle into an unholy ruin. This is over one hundred thousand ghosts. Facing it unprotected is suicide of the highest order."
[20:21] * Afina grimaces, it appears she misjudged. "What do you think would protect against it, other than just being evil enough not to care?" she asks Vul'lath directly, relying on his accumulated knowledge rather than the expected propaganda she'd get from the devil.
[20:23] <Kotono> "Powerful as it is," Sage Vul'lath goes on, "I see nothing to indicate it would penetrate a wall of force. Aurora itself should be safe," he says, "Though unfortunately I cannot currently test this theory. Holy power, from Hallowing and Consecration, should offer some protection, as well Protection from Evil."
[20:24] <Afina> "Hmm, that's an idea. If we ensure we have people able to cast wall of force or other appropriate barriers spread through our ranks... ask it if the direction of the energy is predictable at all before its full manifestation?"
[20:39] <Kotono> "It radiates outward," Sage Vul'lath replies after a moment.
[20:40] <Afina> "Okay, so that gives some potential for blocking it if we're alert. Ask what the recharge time on it is?"
[20:44] <Kotono> "About half a minute," Sage Vul'lath answers, "There's a low degree of variability."
[20:46] * Afina nods, she can work with that. "Back to the souls stuck to the tree, ask it what curses have been laid down on the tree?"
[20:53] <Kotono> A nod, and after a few more moments, "Several, all tied together," Sage Vul'lath says, "Curses of eternal suffering, misery and the sort of things you'd expect for the Wailing Tree. She doesn't know the means to counter them."
[20:54] <Afina> "Are they fixed to a point or diffused throughout the tree?"
[20:56] <Kotono> "It's all diffused," Sage Vul'lath replies, "Valaches isn't sure, but I get the impression there's no single point we can attack to disable this."
[20:59] <Afina> "Hmmm... maybe another can tell us more firmly. Ask it who laid the curses?"
[21:04] <Kotono> "She doesn't know," Sage Vul'lath says, "She was never told and she dared not to dig. Logic dictates it was someone under the command of Abigor." A glance to Afina, "Are there any likely suspects based on intelligence?"
[21:09] <Afina> Thinking back to the reports she read to get Valaches name, Afina closes her eyes for a second, but when she opens them she says, "Captain Gibook is the only one I can think of. One of Jaela's pet erinyes was under its command for the mass crucifixion on the tree. Ask this one if Gibook has any magical talent?"
[21:11] <Kotono> A pause, "He does," Vul'lath replies.
[21:11] <Afina> "Is he still assigned to the tree?"
[21:13] <Kotono> "Unknown but likely," Sage Vul'lath replies, "As far as Valaches knows."
[21:14] <Afina> "What kind of devil is he?"
[21:18] <Kotono> "Unique erinyes," Sage Vul'lath replies, "One of distinction, but that has not been awarded the status of brachina."
[21:20] <Afina> "Hmmm. I might need to ask you or Tepen to try a greater planar binding to catch him. Or have her Majesty send him a Demand as we attack... that could work better, actually. One random guard they can miss, but taking their captain would tip them off. I think I have only one more question, unless you can suggest others - ask what sort of attacks the tree is resistant against?"
[21:29] <Kotono> "Fire," Sage Vul'lath says right away, "It won't burn. Pity," he adds as an afterthought.
[21:33] <Afina> "Oh, it will, just let Simmer and I have at it," Afina reassures him. "Still, if it's not resistant to anything else that means it can be destroyed conventionally. Anything you can think to ask, Vul'lath?"
[21:45] <Kotono> "Nothing germaine," he finally says.
[21:49] <Afina> "Alright, I think we're done. We can do a standard interrogation later to have it on file, but that's all we need to plan for this battle. Thank you for your time, Vul'lath," Afina nods respectfully to the gith, starting to head out of the dungeon.

[03:31] <Tiny_Ko_Army> Dana's found in the library. Her feet up and a book is on her lap. Unfortunately for her sense of learning, her head is drooped back as she naps. In full armor, no less, though it doesn't seem to particularly bother her.
[03:32] * Muirfinn looks at the book in her lap.
[03:38] <Tiny_Ko_Army> It looks to be complex reading about the migratory habits of giant kraken, in particular emphasizing the role dominate bull krakens have in determining seasonal patterns.
[03:39] * Muirfinn shakes his head, going to the shelves to find something more basic. Perhaps the life and mating cycles of reptiles and amphibians.
[03:40] <Tiny_Ko_Army> Finding such a book is easy enough, Dana still asleep when Muirfinn returns.
[03:41] * Muirfinn hefts the book thoughtfully, then taps Dana on the forehead. "Hey."
[03:42] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "Da fuq?" Something garbled comes out of Dana's mouth as she stirs, yawning. "Mmm. Muirfinn, why are you waking me up?"
[03:43] <Muirfinn> "Did this by chance put you to sleep?" Muirfinn asks, tapping the book in her lap.
[03:46] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "This? Hell no." Sitting up now, "I grab a book so I look like I fell asleep studying, instead of just sneaking her to nap."
[03:47] <Muirfinn> "Well, in that case, let's make an honest woman out of you." Muirfinn says, plopping down next to her and taking her book. "Let's learn about biology!"
[03:49] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "Selune's tits and ass!" Dana stares a moment before breaking into laughter, "I'm not sure if that's one of the fucking best or worse pick up lines I've ever heard!"
[03:51] <Muirfinn> "Pick up...no. I am here to teach. You are going to learn."
[03:55] <Tiny_Ko_Army> Smirking now, "Confident, aren't you?" Dana claps her hands, "See, women like that. Some fucking confidence and bravado!" Glancing about, "So...does it poke out of the shell or do I have to go in there after it?"
[03:57] * Muirfinn hisses a laugh and opens his book so she can see. "That depends on what creature you're talking about."
[04:00] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "Exotic," Dana says drily, "I remember my last natural lore teacher," Idly rubbing her chin, "Never really kept my interest, as much as it annoyed Daddy."
[04:01] <Muirfinn> "Perhaps I can put it in a way that you can apply, instead of raw knowledge. Something actually useful to you. If you're interested." Muirfinn offers.
[04:02] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "You mean how to stab things better, by knowing where the vital parts are?" Dana banters back.
[04:05] <Muirfinn> "Precisely." Muirfinn says, pointing at the book. "Understanding your enemy's weaknesses is essential these days. You never know when you may need to fend off a horde of lizardfolk with nothing but a toothpick, or stab a dragon in the neck at precisely the right moment and spot to make its head explode."
[04:07] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "Yeah, yeah," Dana waves a hand, "Thing is, there's too many monsters to study to learn all of them like that. Plus, usually stabbing them enough does it. It never seemed efficient to learn it that way when enough wounds will do it."
[04:12] <Muirfinn> "Well yes. I'm not trying to turn you into a sage. Just educate you in useful information. I doubt you have the patience for the really in depth stuff."
[04:15] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "Eh," Dana shrugs and rolls her shoulders, rubbing her neck, "Book learning isn't bad, I guess, but fucking hell. I learn better doing." Tapping her forehead, "Figured out this mind stuff after using it a few battles. Ever hear of something like mental reformation?"
[04:16] <Muirfinn> roll 1d20+22 K:A Arcana = Psionics
[04:17] * Hatbot --> "Muirfinn rolls 1d20+22 K:A Arcana = Psionics and gets 37." [1d20=15]
[04:18] <Muirfinn> "I've heard of it. It is a sort of mental apotheosis or reorganization, yes?"
[04:20] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "Yeah, in fancy terms," Dana says, "I can do things like spit acid and turn into a nightmare demon of tentacles, but I'm not so good with a shield now and I forgot most of that knight training."
[04:24] <Muirfinn> "Spit...nightmare...mind...wait, you're psionic!" Muirfinn claps his hand over the side of his head, groaning at himself. "I can't believe I didn't see it before! You sneaky girl! Why didn't you just say so?"
[04:25] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "It's just mind magic. I feel sort of dirty, but it works," Dana says, "It fucking works, even if I'd prefer something more normal. Everyone casts magic or flies or sits fancy weave rainbows here. It makes you feel like a dumb bitch to try and earn a place with just your arm."
[04:28] <Muirfinn> "No no nonono." Muirfinn says, walking away and thumbing through the library once more, seeking a tome on psionics. "This is much different from magic! Sort of. Some of the rules still apply, but it WORKS differently. It's PSIONICS! Extremely powerful in its own right, but more...selfish, I suppose you could say?"
[04:34] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "Are you calling me selfish?" Dana asks sweetly, "I remember what happened to the last man that did that."
[04:44] <Muirfinn> "Stop being such a mammal." Muirfinn says distractedly before pulling a thicker tome from the shelves. "Aha! A basic theory on psionics." It lands with a THUMP on a nearby table, Muirfinn quickly paging through it. "It's common in yaun-ti and other reptilian peoples, occasional in naga, and it occurs with rare spontanaeity in outsiders. You know, devils, angels, the like. The mental powers stem
[04:44] <Muirfinn> from an uncommon will in the individual, and a mental focus that goes above and beyond the norm of whatever race it manifests in. The abilities are sometimes called selfish because the majority of them either affect the user of the power or indirectly benefit them in some way. For instance, you could not act as a cleric would, healing a group with ease, but you would be more effective at improving
[04:44] <Muirfinn> your own combat abilities. A person who dedicates their time to the study of their own mind and its development can even use their power to directly attack those around them." Muirfinn says, pointing at the pages.
[04:44] <Muirfinn> "In short, you have a rare gift. Any fool can learn magic."
[04:49] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "Right, I actually know all that," Dana speaks up, "The power of the mind works differently than a typical spell. It's an internal expression, not an external one." Lounging now in the chair and listening, "I can spit acid, remember? I figured out how to heal myself, too.  Morniel's one of those spontaneous psychic types. Got him to talk about it a little bit, and he developed it while learning
[04:49] <Tiny_Ko_Army> precise-style fighting to the surprise of his tutors. You also forgot the giths, who also have a natural touch of it."
[04:51] <Muirfinn> "I didn't forget the giths. I just failed to mention them." Muirfinn says. "Then if you understand it, why begrudge it? It would compliment your fighting style quite well, I'd think. Unless you WANT to be a cleric?"
[04:53] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "Let's put it this way," Dana says, "Any woman can spread her legs and get someone to take care of her."  Snapping her fingers, "Anyone in Aurora can start throwing around high sorcery or similar powers and get taken care of. There's no challenge in it. Nothing fucking unique. You know who I like? Adrian. He mostly relies on his own sword arm to get things done."
[05:06] * Muirfinn nods. "There is a certain something about smashing your foe into bits. It's something I enjoy. As for uniqueness, that's up to you. We seem to have spellcasters galore, lately. The vast majority of them are not unique. They range from a skilled court mage to your average hedge mage. You want to be unique? Develop a style all your own. Make it yours. Be more effective than most. Be
[05:06] * Muirfinn efficient. Be graceful and smooth, or a raging bull. Be unique, but try not to stand out so much that it gets you or others around you killed. Look at our female generals. Jaela could easily steal the spotlight and wade into battle alone, and we would be risking our lives to save her from herself. Afina knows her limitations and does not likewise rush into open combat without forethought. And
[05:06] * Muirfinn Ithea, her fighting style depends on close allies. She knows her abilities are significantly reduced in a solo fight. Each is unique and well-known, if not renowned. Each is elevated by their peers, not eclipsed by them. Look for harmony, and you will stand out without...well, standing out."
[05:08] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "Yeah, yeah," Dana grumps, "I know that." Muttering to herself, "I'm sure I'll get that the first time I transform in a battle around most of you."
[05:14] * Muirfinn nods, patting her on the shoulder. "Good. Now, about reptiles."
[05:15] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "Reptiles, alright," Dana says drily, "So what's the fucking deal about reptiles?"
[05:23] <Muirfinn> "You made a crude joke about eggs, and I wanted to clear up the question you had." Muirfinn says.
[05:25] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "Oh right," Shaking her head, "Fuck it, I'm just a dumb mammal bitch who doesn't know better, since she has tits instead of a lizard brain." She outright drawls that ever so slowly, "So enlighten me."
[05:31] <Muirfinn> "To start, most reptiles lay eggs after they have been fertilized by the male. The act of sex is much less vigorous for reptiles than for mammals. It is a simple process, without much ceremony." Muirfinn says. "Now, tortles are different. We look like turtles, who would reproduce like the average reptile. Oddly enough, our mating habits are more like those of fish than anything else. The female
[05:31] <Muirfinn> lays her eggs whenever she goes into heat, usually once every forty years or so. The male then...sprays, for lack of a better term, a gel-like substance over the eggs that soaks into the shell. It's like sex, only more rote, less involved, and from what I understand less painful for the female afterward."
[05:31] <Muirfinn> "So you see, tortles are weird." Muirfinn finishes. "Now you know more about us than you ever wanted to know."
[05:33] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "Fucking hell yes," Dana appends, "So is it rude to call all of you fishfuckers or would that roll of your backs?" Idly cracking her knuckles, "Nothing personal, but knowing how to fuck with an opponent's mind? If you can't stab them, mess with them."
[05:36] <Muirfinn> "The average tortle would look at you with confusion, since the term isn't in common use among us. The learned few would chuckle at the crude use of your education. In short, no, we would not be offended."
[05:37] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "Okay then," Sitting back, "What's a fucking good insult for a tortle then?"
[05:40] <Muirfinn> "Tortles as a race tend to be steady people, difficult to insult. If you manage it, you'll net yourself a lifetime enemy. I'd reccomend against it. We tend to hold grudges." Muirfinn says, giving her a look.
[05:41] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "Well hell, if I'm insulting one they're not likely to have long to live anyway," Dana admits, "I'm thinkin gin case we fight some devil tortles or something stupid."
[05:44] <Muirfinn> "Oh. In that case, forget the insults. They take far too much effort. It's better to stab them right above the area where the neck meets the shell and be done with it." Muirfinn says. "Never met a devil tortle before, though. I don't expect to, either."
[05:46] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "Right," At this Dana kicks back, "Well, good to know."
<Steph> I might have made a terrible mistake

[03:37] <Tiny_Ko_Army> On returning to her quarters, Ithea finds 27 on her bed. That's normal enough. His Chaos Diamond is curled up in his lap like a teddy bear and his lips are wrapped around the mouth of his Decanter of Endless Water. He drinks water by what must be the gallon, staring at Ithea as she enters but saying nothing.
[03:43] * Ithea likewise says nothing, merely raising an eyebrow and sitting to rest, maybe read a book...who knows?
[03:45] <Tiny_Ko_Army> 27 puts down the Decanter and the Diamond, coming over to Ithea. "Anarch," it says, sitting at her feet.
[03:46] <Ithea> "27," Ithea says back. "Feeling better?"
[03:47] <Tiny_Ko_Army> 27 nods, going to rest his head against Ithea's knee. "Lonely, Anarch."
[03:51] <Ithea> "You can always play with Rukkig, you know," Ithea says as she pats the slaad's head.
[03:54] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "Rukkig playing with Elena," 27 says mournfully, "Anarch, can you help me find a special friend?"
[03:56] * Ithea pauses. "I...don't really think I can."
[03:59] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "Oh." 27's voice sounds sad, "Wanted to try dating. Sounds dry and orange, Anarch."
[04:01] <Ithea> "Well, the problem is that you won't really find anybody to date here in Aurora, 27. You'd probably have to go back to Limbo to find, uhm, a 'special someone', y'know?"
[04:06] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "That never stop slaad from planting eggs," 27 says, "I like Sylvie's feet and tongue - they're radial and swollen." 27 says, "I like Ellese's sharp teeth, too."
[04:08] <Ithea> "Planting eggs is not something you want to do on a date."
[04:13] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "Okay," 27 goes back to resting his head against Anarch's knee. "The Order of the Glacial Heart gelugons are more than they appear. They have absolute zero. Be careful, Anarch."
[04:15] <Ithea> "I'll give any I encounter the cold shoulder," Ithea promises.
[04:16] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "They do the same," 27 looks up, voice different now. It's stronger, clearer. "Abigor is desperate. Events move against him and he has promised things he will not fulfill."
[04:18] * Ithea smiles slightly at that.
[04:22] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "The path ahead is uncertain," 27 continues, "He will die or escape. There are but two paths if he dies, both too dark to see. If he escapes, there are myriad and many paths. Beware the Frostmaiden, for she is willing to make an unholy alliance for the right price."
[04:28] <Ithea> Just in case, Ithea writes down what 27 has said so far, so she's sure to remember it all and can share it with the others.
[04:29] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "If Abigor flees, his death is not essential to save Lifasa," 27 warns, "Finding him may be difficult and he may have a powerful patron. You have defeated him, but not in battle."
[04:33] <Ithea> "I don't know that I'd want to leave him the chance to lick his wounds and possibly recover," Ithea murmurs absently, though she nods and keeps listening.
[04:35] <Tiny_Ko_Army> At this 27 yawns vastly, resting against Ithea's knee. "Sleepy, Anarch," he murmurs.
[04:38] * Ithea pats his head. "Well, go ahead and sleep then. Sorry I can't find you a...girlfriend."
[04:42] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "She's coming..." 27 murmurs, slipping to sleep. A moment later there's a knock on Ithea's door.
[04:48] <Ithea> "Who is it?" Ithea asks, standing to open it, letting 27 sleep all he wants.
[04:50] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "It's me," Sylvie's voice, revealing her. "Yeah, I rested up," she begins as she walks in, "Anyway, how's the gate?"
[04:53] <Ithea> "Haven't had to use it so far. Tannin's 'rescue' went as smoothly as we could have hoped. How's the whole recovery stuff going for -you-?"
[04:55] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "Better. I slept a lot," Sylvie comes on in and takes a seat, reclining back and brushing her bangs out of her face. "I'm preparing for the next battle. This attack on the Wailing Tree should be good."
[05:04] <Ithea> "It'll be something," Ithea comments, not having much more to say on that.
[05:06] <Tiny_Ko_Army> There's a pause, Sylvie waiting before she asks, "Not feeling social today?"
[05:09] <Ithea> "27 just said some stuff, pondering on that a bit," Ithea says. "Abigor's on the run apparently. We've screwed with him and he might flee towards some patron."
[05:12] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "Oh good," Sylvie smiles, "I don't suppose we can't introduce him to a patron named eternal oblivion, can we?"
[05:15] <Ithea> "I'd be okay with that," Ithea says with a smile of her own.
[05:16] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "If I can get close enough to apply 27 vigorously it should do it," Sylvie continues. "Though logical analysis suggests that if his mind were read and probed successfully, the intelligence coup could be titanic."
[05:16] <Tiny_Ko_Army> *21
[05:20] <Ithea> "We'll have to find him first if he does flee. 27 didn't hint whom his patron might be, I don't think," Ithea replies.
[05:23] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "Too bad," Sylvie mutters, "I figured it wouldn't be that easy. If nothing else, I would think a devil would have a contingency escape plan." Sitting back and humming a few moments, "My first guess would be exiled devils or perhaps any deities or concepts tied to war. It's entirely possible it's someone unrelated to his purpose, so it's only speculating on the most likely."
[05:27] * Ithea nods, moving back towards the desk by her bed, where she wrote her notes. "Here, you want to see all of what 27 said? I started writing after he stopped talking about wanting to date you and Ellese, and going into prophecy-mode," she comments as she picks up the notes.
[05:28] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "I'll ignore that other part," Grimacing as she goes to read, "I've read about slaad mat-oh, that was easy." Scanning the page briefly, "The Frostmaiden is a title for Auril, Goddess of Winter. Sounds like we know a potential benefactor for Abigor after all."
[05:32] <Ithea> roll d20+39 K:R Auril anything else worth knowing about her for Ithea?
[05:32] * Hatbot --> "Ithea rolls d20+39 K:R Auril anything else worth knowing about her for Ithea? and gets 44." [d20=5]
[05:36] <Tiny_Ko_Army> Auril is the Goddess of Winter, Cold and related concepts. She's part of the deities of Fury's Heart with Malar and Umberlee. This also was formerly lead by Talos, but he ditched them to do his own non-evil thing around the same time Torm fell. She's vicious and cold, as well as often fickle. While not of chaos herself, she leans to it more than law and devils.
[05:52] <Ithea> "Yes, I could see how she might be a benefactor. I wonder what her 'right price' might be," Ithea muses.
[05:55] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "I have no idea," Sylvie admits, "We don't have enough information to make a guess - though I find it curious Mephisto is helping him, since he's sending an order related to cold. Of course that could be purely coincidental." Hmmming to herself, "For all we know Auril's willing to take a useful general on in exchange for sanctuary and it's all business."
[05:57] * Ithea shrugs. "Guess we'll find out eventually. News about someone like Abigor won't exactly remain hidden once things really get moving."
[06:01] <Tiny_Ko_Army> "Yeah," Sylvie agrees, "If that happens and it is just business, then we need to make it unworthwhile to keep Abigor in service," Sylvie says, "If it's more than business, we have a bigger problem. That's my take."
[06:05] <Ithea> "Same."
<Steph> I might have made a terrible mistake
