I've had an ear ache for the past day and a half.  Allergies have been kinda destroying me all week.

Bleh.

Today was kinda sucky.

Ran into:
Content assert before controller was initialized, blocking skipping.
A dialogue bug causing a crash at head down a path only I was going down.
A corrupt dialogue asset.
And then also save games having never worked for some time and nobody noticed.

At least tomorrow will be better. Right? Right?

After spending most of the week sick and away from work (already a not fun thing, and I burned more than half of my available PTO), I arrive back at the office today to find out that the big project, the one with most of the staff including myself...got suddenly cancelled, no warning whatsoever.

Blargh.

Stressful job aside, it was work that kept a good chunk of the staff doing stuff. Some part of me is thankful it's done, most of me is thinking "Aw fuck, time to update the resume."

Here's to worrying over what will come in the following weeks.

On the flipside of knowing my job is secure for the time being after spending some time worrying about it...four good friends/co-workers were laid off today.

Layoffs and firings suck. Your industry seems more prone to them, or is that just me?

There's quite a few layoffs in EPC companies (contractor companies that go for engineering/procurement/construction contracts), yes.

Frequency also tends to depend on the size of the company. Big companies tend to pay better, but the turnover tends to be high. My company's decently big, and the department I'm in is fairly new, so they keep trying to expand it, but whenever contracts get lost, people invariably get laid off.

Grandfather passed away. My mom thankfully managed to head over to Peru on Friday, so she at least got to see him before he passed away, and it sounds like he passed away peacefully in his sleep as far as my dad knows. There's that at least, but still down about it.
