Found a web novel called The Zombie Knight. http://thezombieknight.blogspot.com/p/blog-page_19.html Updates regularly in small snippets of 400~ words or so. Very enjoyable so far.

What's it about?

A young man dies and is offered to be revived by a grim reaper in exchange for servitude. Responsibilities typically include the fight against abominable horrors, human or otherwise. However, this young man already has a few problems of his own... such as crippling shyness.

That's the official tagline anyway.
I'm going to need your signature for the metric ton of whoop-ass you're about to receive.

"A 'Cult'? Such disrespect for other people's beliefs."
"You enslave minds!"
"And I believe that's okay."

Took me a week, but I am now current with it.

I really enjoy The Zombie knight because of the powers everyone has.

Some are different variations of element bending, and no. Not classical Water, Earth, Fire, Air and AEther elements, but actual elemenst. The main character has the ability to materialize Iron into any shape. And a guy who does have 'water bending' actually has the ability to summon both Hydrogen and Oxygen.

Reminds me of an worldbuilding idea I'd had, but never had enough knowledge to implement: Elemental magery.  As magic is common, certain sciences and fields (chemistry and materials) would be advanced, but others (physics, non-molecular biology) might not be.  Was always sure that CHON would play some role in society, but not sure if they're just serfs, or oligarchists who rule the world.

Unfortunately, to really make this sort of setting work, one needs a grounding in material science, which I don't have.

Anyway, your description of the powers sounds close enough that I want to see where the writer is taking it.

Rukatin

Well I like what he's done with it. Another materialization wielder could summon a radioactive metal. What it didn't make up for in strength, he up for in radioactivity.

Wasn't there some anime series a while ago that used this idea?  The male lead controlled Iron as well.  Don't remember much else about it other than the weird breast focus the show had going on.  Some Christian elements as well...so nun's, schoolgirls and yeah I dropped it due to the entire thing looking like fetish fuel.

Pokemon: The Origin of the Species, is a relatively new Pokemon fic that's caught my attention.  Mostly because it has bearable writing and the main character is actually focused more on becoming a Pokemon Professor more than a Pokemon Champion/Master.  Makes for some interesting reading, especially when the main character tries to do stuff like figure out how a Charmander can project balls of fire which seem to not require any fuel.

With This Ring is a Young Justice SI fic on Spacebattles.  It's a huge, took me a few days to get through all the backlog, and updates just about daily.  Premises is that the SI suddenly finds himself in the Young Justice timeline of the DCverse with an Orange Power Ring.  He also retains all his memories of DCverse material, with the exception of the show Young Justice.  If you've seen the show, you can probably guess what happens from there.  Author seems determined to get through the entire show and is only just approaching the end of the first season...which leaves him just short of the halfway mark.

And A Demon Amongst Devils has once again updated!

Also for those of you who seem to be getting into the whole DxD thing: A Demon Lord's Hero
Basically remove Dresden/Minato, and insert Shirou Emiya instead.  I particularly like Kokabiel's portrayal in this one.  Though, it does remove a lot of the fluffiness the original series has.  Devils in this fic are actually kind of devilish.

Read through it.  Starts off rocky, and has the occasional odd scene transition issues, but I expected those sorts of characteristics from a serial.

Dracos

Yay A Demon Amongst Devils.

Read through A Demon Lord's Hero, and it's kinda of a neat tale.  It's definitely an interesting take on the fallen in general.  That said, I don't recognize a lot of the characters as themselves, and there's a lot of leaping to understandings mixed with 'Oh, of course that wasn't chance'.  Pretty much Asia's presence at all is a stack of those.

Shirou comes across as a dude with Shirou's abilities but hard to associate with any take I've seen of him.  Grizzled devil lord mentor shirou who lacks the weaknesses of a devil just seems more of an OC.
Well, Goodbye.

I seem to be seeing lots of DxD fics floating around (I'd read Hero awhile ago, but hadn't commented on it).  Is there something that has prompted recent interest in the series, or (more likely) I'm just the last to hear about it?

Also I noticed by happenstance that https://www.fanfiction.net/s/7657235/28/Path-of-the-King seems to have updated recently.

Dracos

Mostly Demon Among Devils being awesome.
Well, Goodbye.

Speaking of DxD, I read Through the World Door a few days ago. It's that rare breed of ZnT crossover that focuses on Saito instead of Louise.

In short he takes the Pope's offer of going through the world door (and gets shot) but is saved on the Earth side and gets mixed up in the various stuff that happens with devils and fallen angels.

Saito's fairly OOC. In part to keep him from becoming Issei mk2, but you have to accept his affection for Louise is diminished for him to even go through the portal in the first place. Still, has some great fight scenes of the Gandalf and Derf kicking ass, and the comparison between being in Rias' peerage and being a familiar provides plenty of grist.

In lighter reading there's Dangerous and Deadly Lord Voldemort in which a wizard child with a love for muggle magic tricks decides to adopt an extravagant stage name and hijinks ensue.

Dracos

Had a DxD day.

Read through https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10305032/1/Through-the-World-Door.  It was neat.  Definitely an original take on Saito, but also on the world setting.  It portrays a far more vicious set of Halkegians then canon as well, but nothing particularly out of the framework as given.  Putting a tramutized Saito among the peerage system makes for an interesting bit.  I'm not quite sure where they're hoping to go with Raynare in it, but it's also a different non-redeemy take on actually having a character that has like 10 minutes of screentime be an actual major plot force.

https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10080850/1/Devil-You-Know An interesting cross with Dresden, set at the beginning unlike Gabe's fic.
Well, Goodbye.

Journey updated. I guess miracles really do happen!

Dreaming of Sunshine updated.

Been reading A Cloudy Path on spacebattles. Alt!power wormfic. Taylor as a tinker. I've found myself enjoying it quite a bit.

Read some COPACETIC and A Tale of Transmigration, also on spacebattles. Not linked because both stories are in a bit of a rough spot.

A strangely contradictory Naruto fic.  On one hand, you can tell that the writer researched some details of geisha and ninja.  On the other, it not only runs into Japanese anime fanfic landmines, it stomps on them.  e.g, whole sentences in Japanese, and having characters say "Sayonara" to people they expect to meet tomorrow.  I'm still not sure if the writer was aiming for authenticity and had the occasional hilarious failure, or was just going for verisimilitude.

Anyway, posting the link here for the novelty.

Also, Ramza 1/2 updated: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/6789454/22/For-Want-of-a-War

Dracos

I think we've named every decent DxD fic.  *routed through their high word count fics and it looks like the rest are pretty terrible*  An enormous number of Demon Amongst Devil knockoffs.  Sadly none really work.

Oh hey, Ramza.  *goes to read*
Well, Goodbye.

Dracos

https://www.fanfiction.net/u/94905/druth Journey updated o_O

For those unaware, this is like a 15 year old fic at this point.  It's Ranma/GURPs, and pretty much old-style Ranma, where even though it's crazy, the Ranma cast will come along, and meddle despite gods and demons and alien intelligences being around.
Well, Goodbye.
