"Why do you call it soulriders?"
"Because we grind your souls, hopes, and dreams down ... and ride the wave."

"I'd bet on the immovable force," Hanna counters, "But more likely they'd counteract each other."

"Maybe it's not a paradox. Maybe the sum of the two parts means it's only natural for ice to be static?" Mirajane inquires. "Air and water both flow, yet when they meet each other, maybe they cancel that out for each other?"

"Like how minus one times minus one is one?" Afina asks, showing that she understands a bit of mathematics even if the finer points of numerology and code-breaking are beyond her. "Honestly I dislike that interpretation just because it seems too pat. Numerical tricks work in the abstract but when it comes to physical forces they fall away in their relevance. Still, I'm not getting anywhere thinking of it like I had been. Hmm..." she crosses her arms under her nonexistent chest as she tries to adjust her thinking. "It's a case where even if they're the same they're working at cross purposes... like if two people push a boulder from opposite sides with the same force, it balances so..." she trails off. Of course! "It balances!" she repeats with more conviction. "It's not a paradox, it's a balance. Thank you Mirajane, I've been all wrongheaded in my thinking. Now it makes far more sense to me," she smiles, arms dropping away as she resumes her relaxed pose and tries to fit Air and Water together within her in light of this revelation. There's no paradox, no conflict. It's a balanced harmony, like it should be.

Anastasia

"Of course. They aren't opposed planes like Fire and Water or Air and Earth. Why shouldn't they find harmony?" Mirajane says with a growing smile.

Charisma again, +2 bonus.

It's like a block is gone. You grasp them together and do not fight, instead making them as one. Your body slowly turns to ice, transparent and with only vague outlines of internal organs within. You feel a connection here, a communion to it all. You are Ice. Ice is you. All is Ice. All will become Ice.

Afina maintains this state for a while before Fire and Earth are allowed back into focus, her internal elements realigning with new harmony. Which hopefully will transfer something along to Afame when she's reunited with the blade. "I understand now," she says, nodding to the elemental who's challenge has now rendered the rest of Absolute Zero moot. "Our work here is done."

Corwin

"Thanks!" Jaela tells the elemental, before glancing over at her family. "Anything you want to do here, or I'll teleport us back to our starting point?"
<Steph> I might have made a terrible mistake

Anastasia

"We could chance going down again?" Mirajane says, "If we could get something that survives contact with the water down there, it could be powerful."

"I'm fine. Afina's figured out what she needed, so we don't have to go deeper if we don't want to." Hanna rolls her shoulders.

Corwin

"Hang on, do you mean Afina's ice state can survive the contact?" Jaela asks Mirajane.

Anastasia

"I meant a weapon," Mirajane says, "Like the one she first touched to it."

Corwin

"I'm still not getting it. Do you have an idea for how to make a weapon survive that without breaking? I couldn't find a good idea for that when I studied the magic earlier."
<Steph> I might have made a terrible mistake

Ebiris

"There's probably blue ice or even superior down here," Afina says. And Mirajane did say she'd need to give Bubbles a present... why does no one ever get her presents? Why does she have to be the pursuer in this scenario when Bubbles was the one that invited her to her room? Oh well... "On reflection yes, lets proceed a while and see if anything good comes of it?"

Anastasia

"No, but we might b e able to work something out," Mirajane says with a bit of an apologetic look. "Sorry Mother."

"Let's keep going for a bit longer, then? We're here and all."

"The blade that shattered was just common ice from the surface. Superior materials will surely help," Afina says, before addressing the elemental. "May we pass?"
