"Is there any surer indication of skill than winning without combat?"

[Anastasia]

"None at all," Jarem says, "The only better thing than a battle one is a battle won without a battle."

"Yes, but..." Emily trails off, "Still. No magic, no clashing swords, no great duel and bloodshed."

[Iron Dragoon]

"Emily, I assure you, if you tell you mothers about winning a dragon hoard with three spells cast in seconds and no direct combat, they will be suitably impressed. In any case, let's start getting this loot taken care of!"

[Anastasia]

On the platform is a great heap of coins - gold, silver, copper, platinum and more. Gemstones and jewelry are a part of it, as well as a few odder things - objects, weapons and so forth.

Yet as you approach? A single gemstone rises, a deep, rich blue gem about the size of a fist. It hovers in the air.

'Who are you? This is mine. Why did you get rid of the ooze? It kept riff-raff out.' A genderless voice speaks with open annoyance, 'It was docile and ate anything that came in, it was perfect!'

"It was the best way to remove it without killing on either side. I'm Alyssa Songsteel. Who are you, and what do you mean this is yours? This belonged to a dragon defeated by Aurora, did it not?"

[Anastasia]

"This is new," Jarem remarks, "Jarem Aruwood, servant of the Red Knight."

"Oh! Emily Aryn," Emily introduces herself, "Um, of the Cauldron!"

The gem hovers in the air, a distinct impression of being gazed at after you speak. "Songsteel, Songsteel. You weren't a bard blacksmith in a previous generation, were you? Aruwood, nope, doesn't ring any bells. You new at this?" Finally, to Emily, "Aryn, Aryn. Nope, doesn't sound familiar, you look like a noble girl who got in too deep."

With a hint of his lips twisting upward, "Call me first generation talent." Jarem says, "I'm guessing you don't get much news beyond your cave."

"You don't know my name?!" Emily gasps, "But my Mom ascended on her own! She's a big deal! How do you not know about that?!"

"... My father was a blacksmith. For the local Lord. How would an intelligent artifact know of him?"

[Anastasia]

"Steel's in your name, of course," The gem says, "That means one of you was a blacksmith."

[Iron Dragoon]

Alyssa blinks. "Well. A rather simple deduction, but accurate. We've all introduced ourselves, how about you?"

[Anastasia]

"I am Sadur," The gem introduces itself, "Once Sadur Of the Ten Victories. Once Sadur of Willwisp Village. Now merely Sadur."
