Ebiris

Excuse you, it's tulani of mayhem.

Any knowledge for this sort of creature/item? Probably arcana but I'll ask!

The book seems alive - some sort of fell grimoire, enchanted to devour the souls of the dead and dying. You've heard of them, named Fell Grimoires. They can have useful information in them, with the soul stealing staying latent until just the right time. Usually to the possessor's great lamentations.

Setting them on fire usually works well, or holy power otherwise.

They can also deal vile damage with a touch, so don't get touched by a book on the attack.

Since she's committed to helping now, Marie grabs the book in a telekinetic grip so it can't fly around and bash people.

Unfortunately DvR 0 doesn't protect you from critical failures.

Good luck guys!

Anastasia

Alas, tragedy.

Yet the book is too strong, the telekinesis failing to grab it. Instead it flies out, going right for the downed minotaur.

The book flies out and touches the minotaur's arm, shadows extending out. The minotaur's scream echos as a dot of light is torn from his body. For a moment, the fact on the book is replaced by the face of the minotaur, howling in silent terror.

"Angharradh's Spear!" Tinnal stumbles back, eyes wide. He fumbles a moment, then brings his fingers to his mouth and whistles. A long and loud whistle, followed by pointing at the book.

> roll 1d20+10 dispel magic

Clutch.

The book's lined face twists in pain as a dot of light flies from it, back into the minotaur. It hangs limp in the air a moment as the bald man pushes Tinnal back, pushing him out and just behind him, "It's a fucking soul stealer, I've seen that before. Burn it all, it's the blackest magic!"

Marie.

Nice work Tinnal!

Also if the book can just be dispelled into coughing the souls back up that's not so bad. She'll try holding the book in place again though, surely it just got lucky!

Anastasia

This time you feel it, the book in your grasp. Got it!

Doing anything else or just grappling it with telekinesis?
<Afina> Imagine a tiny pixie boot stamping on a devil's face.

<IronDragoon> I mean, why not?

Ebiris

Just grappling to hold it in place so it can't move around and touch people and can be more easily hit.

Anastasia

The book is held, struggling and bucking, until it starts moving again, escaping your hold.

Can't pass the roll without a 20, so just 20 checking.

> roll 1d20 20 check

This is not Marie's day.

Tinnal gestures and sings a long, single note before sparks rain down from above, hitting the tent.

> roll 1d6
<Penuche> Space_Cat invokes Penuche's magic: < 2 > [d6=2]

A few little sparks hit and start burning the tent, slowly. "Shit," The bald man mutters, going forward and grabbing the minotaur's leg, trying to drag him out as the tent smoulders.

> roll 1d20+3 str check
<Penuche> Space_Cat invokes Penuche's magic: < 6 > [d20=3]

Yet the minotaur doesn't budge. "Shit," he mutters under his breath, muscles straining visibly.

Marie, go.

<Yuthirin> Afina, giant parasitic rainbow space whale.
<IronDragoon> I mean, why not?

Ebiris

This is just the worst. Fine! Floating down against the minotaur's head she heals him to clear up that pesky poison and get him mobile again.

Heal SLA used.

Anastasia

Done. The minotaur immediately starts to stir, uttering something you don't quite catch.

As he pulls, the book darts ahead, going right for the bald man.

> roll 1d20+12 touch AC

Vile damage.

The book slams into the bald man's shoulder, a flesh tearing ripping heard. He lets go of the minotaur - who gets up and start sto crawl out, gasping and coughing. "Keep it in there," Tinnal calls, more sparks coming, "I'm burning it as fast as I can!"

> roll 1d6
<Penuche> Kotono invokes Penuche's magic: < 6 > [d6=6]

More sparks call, fires starting all over the tent now, spreading. It's starting to burn in earnest now, as the bald man groans in pain, keeping up and falling back as...

Go.
<Afina> Imagine a tiny pixie boot stamping on a devil's face.
<Afina> Forever.

<Yuthirin> Afina, giant parasitic rainbow space whale.

Ebiris

Once more Marie tries to grab the slippery book in a telekinetic grip.

This'd be much easier if she could magic missile the problem away.

[18:16] <Penuche> Ebiris invokes Penuche's magic: < 59 > [d20=12]

You got it - and the book isn't moving, isn't escaping this time.

> roll 1d20 20 check
<Penuche> Kotono invokes Penuche's magic: < 10 > [d20=10]

The three stumble away as the tent burns. A few embers are starting to fall inside of the tent - including one right by one of the bottles, which hisses and smokes from the near contact.

"Let it burn," The minotaur pants, agreeing as they get as far away from it as they can, not slowing down an instant.

Go.
<Afina> Imagine a tiny pixie boot stamping on a devil's face.

<Yuthirin> Afina, giant parasitic rainbow space whale.
<IronDragoon> I mean, why not?

Ebiris

Marie is content to stay where she is, keeping the book pinned to burn to ash inside the tent. She's incorporeal so nothing here's going to hurt her after all.
