Moore bows his head. "Lord Crystalle believes that the reason the dao are being so forthcoming is that this ultimately is to their benefit more than anything." Moore explains. "It is likely that they have something else happening in the shadows. Further, he believes that they want to try and use me and our relationship with him to better their own in some manner."

Anastasia

"It is within our own estimations," Barachiel says, "Does he have any idea who or what is benefiting them?"

<IronDragoon> I mean, why not?

"He did not say, only that the war was likely getting in the way of whatever it was they were scheming." Moore says.

Barachiel considers, hands behind his back as he looks up at the light above.

"We can't discount the possibility of the dao having another war prepared, one they've kept from us," Barachiel says at last.

"The longest shadows are cast by the brightest light, hm?" Moore asks. "It feels to me like Hell has been too silent in all of this, but... I know trying to understand their intentions is a fool's journey."

Anastasia

A pause.

"A efreet sultan loyal to Hell. A dao bribed into cooperation with Baator," Barachiel says, "All with minimal cost and coin to the Lord of the Ninth." His voice is grim, "It feels too much like a plan Hell would unleash. Should the war go in the efreet's favor, throw in fully to finish it and force a treaty. Should it go poorly, supplant the Grand Sultan with one far more cooperative, and give the dao something that draws them into Hell's orbit in exchange for the concessions they'd have to make in any treaty."

"I'm sure they never planned for this war to break out to begin with." Moore says. "But I'm sure they knew how to exploit it... that's the only thing any of them do know how to do well."

Anastasia

"More, they'd suffer no backlash with Akil in power," Barachiel continues, "Because why would he care that they manipulated the last Sultan? At worst for them, slavery is a disease that can always recur in time. What's thousands of years to Asmodeus?"

Moore nods, and he takes a breath in. "We can't let things end up happening like that. If the Sultan ends up falling into that sort of situation..." He shakes his head. "We simply have to be ready to counter whatever it is they're planning, thousands of years or no."

That gets Barachiel to smile. "Welcome to eternity, Moore." He looks back down to you, "These wars are the exceptions to the rules, and instead we usually work in ranges of centuries, millennia and eons."

Barachiel's smile bolsters you, a palpable warmth and love filling you. It's like being under a warm blanket with a loved one on a cold day. It leaves you feeling refreshed, comforted, a feeling of absolute compassion. "It also shows us how exceptional Aurora's victory was. So often even when we defeat Hell, they move to gain from their loss or win in spite of that victory."

Moore nods, as a smile breaking out over his face that he didn't realize he needed.

"We can make a miracle happen again." Moore says. "I believe it... we can bring hope, because it's something we believe it. Hell can never understand the true meaning of hope, and that's why they'll never be able to truly win, even for all their scheming and machinations."

Anastasia

"Never let that hope go," Barachiel agrees, "As long as you hold that and keep your heart pure, you'll go far."

Moore nods. "Understood. Thank you for your counsel."
