You notice it -  a faint shimmer 20ft below on the stairs. Just a moment, giving you a second to react - something's appearing.
<Afina> Imagine a tiny pixie boot stamping on a devil's face.
<Afina> Forever.

<Yuthirin> Afina, giant parasitic rainbow space whale.
<IronDragoon> I mean, why not?

Iron Dragoon

Alyssa points, "There! Something's coming!"

Bastian glides forward, ready to strike. Emily has a spell on her lips.

"If you could not, please? I'm here to instruct you," A man's voice states. It is an Inevitable of solid gold plating and iron beneath that greets you. It has three claws as toes, a corded body of steel and adamantine, and no facial features. Humanish and yet not, bowing to you. "It is an honor to meet you, as you are right on time. I am Chrona 42."

"Well, hello there. Excuse our caution. Even more so now that you've revealed yourself. The last Inevitable we met was less than pleasant."

"You have my apologies for that, goddess," Chrona 42 replies. "I am here to teach you about chronomancy, as in your duties you may come across it. While you are not exempt from the Temporal Compact, you may come across a violation that has to be addressed immediately."

Alyssa raises an eyebrow, "That's certainly enticing. I assume there's a catch or two?"

"None," Is his answer, "You are to be trained because of your divinity, nothing less and nothing more. This titan's old workings merely provides a fine place to do so."

"Ooooh, Mom recently  mentioned you," Emily speaks up, "Seira went through the same thing. I think she mentioned Alicia did, too."

"Interesting. Well, thank you, then. I do appreciate your efforts."

Bastian merely listens.

"Then we can begin. Are you familiar with chronomancy?"

"The general concept, but nothing more. Though I've attained divinity, I was mortal and it was only in whispers that Chronomancy existed."

"Time magic, the ability to alter time. Far from impossible, time travel is entirely possible within the Weave." Chrona 42 begins as he starts to walk down the stairs. "So possible that history become open to endless revision, until all the gods grew weary of it and chose to enforce a ban on this magic."

Alyssa taps her chin, "I wonder, if it exists within the weave, could you take spells from the weave also? So, if the day before I hadn't used my most powerful spell, could I cast it today using the weave yesterday?"

"Temporal magic to recover spells is possible," Chrona 42 says, "If difficult due to the specialization involved. The breadth and depth of chronomancy is impressive, as the nature of time allows it to be changed freely."

"Hm. I can see why it was considered so dangerous. Might I ask who decided we would be allowed to learn it?"

"You are a god. You are allowed to study it for the purposes of understanding violations, but you are still forbidden to use it freely." Chrona 42 explains, pausing his walk. "Emily, has your mother informed about this?"

"The basics," Emily goes on, "It's enforced by every other deity and plane. No one wants a return of when time became constantly up for revision." Here Emily sighs, "I hate it, chronomancy's magic allures me, but I see why it's necessary. Aunt Waukeen also had some pointed comments for me about it. We deities are immune to temporal change. You can't hurt us by changing the past, we're beyond that. But those who are not divine are not."

"Thank you, Emily," Chrona 42 picks up from there, "Imagine you have a brave worshiper who died this morning and traveled to you. Then you blink and no! He's no longer there. Someone traveled in time and he died before he served you now. So you dispatch a servant to set it right. So be it and he returns. Then a flash and now he is alive and serves another. Again history is changed. Everyone grew weary of such a reality."
