I agree with you except one point.

There are A TON of bad DMs and GMs out there and while people that hate them obviously won't play with them again there are always new people to abuse. If you're the perfect GM sure you don't need dice but chances are you're not. Psychologically you will make a certain set of decisions that are in no way, shape, or form random when they should be.

Not to say dice are perfect either, but I believe they're a necessary evil...

You are just telling the line of exactly why dice based systems are more popular and widespread.  Because they deal with the crap GMs better.  Again though, what I refer to as diceless is generally just mostly diceless.  Occassionally, an element of chance is very appropriate.  Generally, I tend to place them in the player's favor as a rule as well.  There's always more enemies or traps after all.  But they are used rather sparsingly.  *shrugs*  It's what I find works on my end.  Especially for running net games.
