O'karn boisteriously laughed at the young girl as he ripped off another huge hunk of the pig and viciously mauled it with his teeth.  Thinking a bit he looked at the human mage, Arkanel, "You come with us to fight Zaphiel."

Fearless Leader
Well, Goodbye.

"I apologize, I meant no offense," Devon attempted to placate Miaka.

"I've just never heard of a healing compound that you snort, although I wouldn't discount the possibility of it existing.  Thoth knows, I've seen stranger things."

Corwin

"I've seen very strange things, too," Miaka said with a nod, her voice softening. "Like the very ugly woman who gave it to me." Blushing, she said the next sentence in a rush. "Well, she gave it to Mitsukake, but I'm sure he wouldn't mind me borrowing it!"

Nodding Devon quirked an eyebrow at Miaka, "So, who was that man with the silver sword?"

Corwin

Miaka's eyes sparkled, stopping short of glowing. "He's my fiance!" she enthused. Sakura petals appeared all around her, and a string quartet began playing the Barney theme song in the background. "We love each other very much-- well, I also love Yui-chan, but she kinda wants to kill me at the moment, though I'm hoping it's only temporary," Miaka said gushingly. She sighed, and took out a picture of her dear girlfriend, staring at it longingly.

"Did you summon him to the fight?" Devon asked between bites of food. "Or did he come under his own power?"

Corwin

"Umm...." Miaka thought about the question, after being startled from her reverie. "A little bit of both, maybe? Tamahome is the Celestial Warrior of Suzaku, so we both serve Suzaku. I think that Suzaku lends us his power, when we need it the most," she finally answered, being uncharacteristically introverted.

"Suzaku... is a deity?" Devon paused with his fork hovering over his plate.

Corwin

"Of course he is," Miaka answered, looking at Devon strangely. "He's the Phoenix God that protects the land of Konan."

Arkanel put down his utensils when addressed.  He had been delicately eating his meal, for all appearances ignoring the banter around him.

His brow furrowed as he looked at his impressively sized guest.  "I would be of less use to you, than the 'Stupid scrawny human.'"

"Then, that would mean that you are a priestess?" the inquisitive elf inquired.

Running at a breakneck speed, the scholar, Jeremiah Arnesworth traversed the blackened night of London.  He was late, but he needed to say one last good-bye to his dearest Catherine.   His reasons for going were something he couldn't really verbalize, at least not to the sweat girl he hoped to marry one day.  Worry overran him as he tried to slow the flow of time around him, while adding strength and speed to his legs, heedless of the paradox created.

Rounding the last corner, his bag slung upon his shoulder, he caught a glimpse of a pillar of light centered on the spot he had promised to be at five minutes ago.

He watched in dismay as it started to compact, and he cried out in frustration as it disappeared.  "At least let me catch the residual magic," he thought as he began to scry the area.

He found something, but the not the residual signature he was looking for, but the live magic.  Trying desperately to hitch himself to it, he never noticed as the universe smacked him, having had more than enough of the troublesome boy.

His magic was entangled, and his mind put to sleep as he was pulled from his world.  Paradox is a funny thing, and the universe is lazy.   Another traveler through the hastily created and un-expertly designed portals had also angered the cosmos, and Jeremiah found his essence combined with the boy while they traveled through the holes in space and time.

They appeared on a stone slab, both looking out through the same body as a group of strangers moved around them.  They could hear and understand, stopping to pick up the small bag and robe before the woman, Lafiel, brought them, two minds and one body to a small room.  She left them there, unaware of the additional persona.

The universe had finally decided, punishment had been meted, and relented.  The magic used to transport them the many miles was allowed to spill over, and undue what had been done.  Unbeknownst to their host, or the man that followed her, Remdos B. Chez's body materialized, and took his mind and soul with it.

The experience left both men weary, and they feinted on the floor.  Awoken much later by the heavy footfalls heard upstairs.

Miaka's face adopted an upset expression. "That's what I said when Miss Arael asked me, 'Priestess of Suzaku'. Do you want to catch me on some lie, or are you just making fun of me?" she asked him angrily. "I don't want to talk with you anymore."

Huffing disdainfully, Miaka went back to devouring her meal, albeit more violently than previously.

Devon gazed inscrutably at Miaka for a moment, before turning his attention to the meal in front of him.

Watching the odd spectacle of the young priestess eating enough food to feed a family by herself, Arael finally took the time to examine the contents of the bag she was given earlier.
