Arael found what appeared to be three diamonds and two rubys.

[Rezantis]

With an groan, Jeremiah put a hand to his head and sat up, looking around iritably to find the source of the noise . . .

As hard as he might, Jeremiah couldn't ascertain the source of the noise, save that it was pounding.

Looking around, he found himself in smallish room with two bookshelves, overflowing with old tomes.  A desk was situated opposite the books, and it was cluttered with books as well.  There were no windows, and the acrid stench of old smoke filled the small enclosure.  A single wooden door stood closed to a side.

A small table was set up in the middle, displaying only a small pyramid shaped object, it's top tip was a muted red.

A man lay near him on the floor.

Putting a hand to his now-throbbing-headache, Jeremiah stood up and poked the unconscious man with a booted foot.

Not too hard, though.

"What's the standard currency around here?" Arael asked their host. She replaced the precious stones and put the bag away.

[kpjam]

"The gilder," Arkanel responded to Arael's curious question.

[thepanda]

"I have no idea what that is," Arael spoke truthfully. "Mind showing us?"

[Dracos]

O'Karn shook his head distastefully, "I dislike this, human mage.  No other chosen has the guts to join us against your brother?"  O'karn sniffed, "I am not such a fool as to wish to fight against the forces of the mystic without the aid of the gods on my side."

Arkanel rings his bell, a few moments later Clara walks in.  

"I'm sorry to be a bother, would you happen to have any coin on you, so that the young lady's curiosity may be sated."  He nodded his head towards Arael.

Clara nodded, and then left the room.  A minute later she returned carrying a small pouch.  Walking up to Arael, she pulled forth from her bag a few golden coins, holding her hand out to Arael.

Arkanel looked pained at his rebuke and then stiffened in his chair.

"You brought nothing to aid yourself?! You are so woefully equipted that an man, who knows little except healing, will make a difference?  If warfare were my buisness, or any others of the chosen, would I have need of you at all!

"Gods you speak of!  If there were gods, this travesty would not have happened, Zaphiel would have been content with his life, and not saught to improve his position with the tyranny of foul magics!  The ancients were prudent in their ways... and now, you, who have taken my gems, and promised your help balk because your opponent may have some way of doing things that you lack!"

"Gold pieces?" She tried very hard not to sigh. Gold generally was the standard adventure coin, in RPGs, that is. It was almost surreal to look upon them now.

Hearing O'Karn's words she turned her attention back to the mage.

[Dracos]

"Foolish mage, Syfier has favored this quest, and so shall victory be ours.  Do not speak fell of the gods or I shall rend your head from your shoulders.  Even so, I am no mans slave or fool.  I shall go about this in my own manner, understand?  Zaphiel will die, one way or another.  And your promise will be upheld...or I will burn this whole city to the ground.  I thought your 'chosen' were true 'chosen' of the gods.  Now I see by your words this is not so.  So be it.  I have no need for scrawny humans who hide behind their gems."

Arkanel sighs, strain leaving his face as he looks up at O'karn and nods.

[kpjam]

Clara looked at Arael strangely and realizing she was being dismissed, without even a thank you like the other woman had given her, she placed the coins back in her bag and left the room.

[Dracos]

"Mage, I would have the best maps of the area that you can provide.  They will be of use in storming the fortress, even if you do not have maps of the fortress itself."
