Devon placed his ear against the cover, and listened intently.

He heard nothing.

[Figment]

Devon examined the wheel, looking at the condition it was in.

[Figment]

The apparatus appeared to be in good condition.

[Figment]

Gripping the wheel, Devon very slowly started to turn it, ready to stop at the slightest hint of sound.

[Figment]

After the first turn, Devon stopped.  The apparatus emmited a soft squeaking sound.  It was about the volume of a person talking in a normal conversational tone.

Frowning, Devon abandoned the wheel and pulled out a bit of chalk, making a small mark on the ceiling of the pipe he had arrived through, and a small mark on the ceiling of the pipe extending to the right

Devon then proceeded down the right pipe.

Proceeding along, he notted that a dozen smaller pipes connecting to the one he traveled along.  They were about 1/2 a foot in diameter and attached to it from every on both sides of him.  Shortly after the last one, the pipe ended.

Retracing his path, Devon headed straight across the intersection, making a small mark on the ceiling as he went.

Proceeding along, he notted that a dozen smaller pipes connecting to the one he traveled along.  They were about 1/2 a foot in diameter and attached to it from every on both sides of him.  Shortly after the last one, the pipe ended.

Retracing his path once more, Devon turned left at the intersection and headed west again.

[Figment]

After a decent walk, he came to another place the pipes could be closed, and a few feet past that was another manhole cover with wheel attached.

[Figment]

Devon examined the wheel, and, finding it in good condition, slowly turned it, again listening for any sounds.

[Figment]

The wheel squeaked, the same as before, making the same amount of sound.

[Figment]

Noting the location, Devon abandoned the squeeky wheel and continued down the pipe.
