Figment

Devon continued walking until he came to a rectangular room.  It was 5 feet in height, 10 feet wide and 20 feet long.  Along the walls he could see smaller pipes connecting here, a small trickle of water came from one, ending a few seconds after he entered the room.  On the far side, near the top, was a rectangular entrance, mostly closed, and water gushed forth from the 1/2 inch opening.  Two rectangular grates were on the ceiling, a few feet apart, and Devon could make out a closed hatch behind them.

Figment

Devon moved over and examined the rectangular entrance.

Figment

The entrance seemed to be some kind of water regulation slide.  Devon could tell their was a quite a bit of force behind almost completely closed sheef of metal.

Figment

Moving over to the grates, Devon gripped one and gave an experimental tug.

Figment

The tug proved futile as he noticed they were hinged to open outward when the cover was removed.

Figment

Pulling out a crowbar, Devon slid it through the grate and slowly pushed on the hatch, feeling for the amount of resistance offered.

Figment

Devon felt movement with little pressure applied.

Figment

Using the crowbar, Devon pushed lightly on each of the four edges of the hatch, trying to determine if it opened on hinges, and if so, which side they were on.

Figment

Working quickly, Devon determined their were hinges, and they were on the outside of the grate.

OOC: since there are two, I assume you're working on the northern one, assuming you entered from the east and the water valve was on the west.  So the hinges are on the north side of it.

Figment

Devon looked at the hinges on the grate, and compared their location to the hinges on the hatch.

Figment

The hinges were perpendicular to each other.  The outer casing's hinges were facing north, and not visible to him, while the grate's hinges were facing west, and inbetween the grate and the outer casing.

Figment

Pulling a small mirror from his pack, Devon very slowly opened the hatch just a small bit with his crowbar, ears straining for any sound.  With the hatch slightly open, he slipped his hand and the mirror through the grate and looked, pivoting the mirror to sweep the visible area.

Figment

Proping the hatch open a little, he could see the other hatch, right in front of the current one.  A wheel stood on the west wall, and a door was to the east.  The rest of the visible room was bare.

ooc:  I'm assuming he can see every direction but North.

Figment

Moving over to the other hatch, Devon repeated the process.

Figment

Proping the hatch open a little, he could see the other hatch, right in front of the current one.  A wheel stood on the west wall, and a door was to the east.  Their was a door to the north, but the rest of the room was again bare.
