Okay, at the risk of metagaming, and absolutely no criticism implied...

So, flush on our victory in the Earth Dream, we come back, and one of our (in character, at least) valued and trusted friends was killed in front of our eyes, with us powerless to stop this.  Currently, half the party is ignoring this.

I'm figuring this is not because people are such heartless bastards that they couldn't care less if Durant dies or not, so much as the fact that we all know, OOC, that this was inevitable and necessary, and after our hiatus, what we want to do is get back to the plot, not deal with the drama.  But as it stands right now, it seems to me that we're going to end  up in a situation that's confusing at best and a downright problem at worst -- especially given that we are going to come face to face with Liandral again at some point.

Since I also would rather be plotting and scheming and moving on rather than dealing with any relevant angst, my suggestion is that in this thread we write down our character's feelings about and any relevant plans or gaols relevant to Durant's death.  Then we take it as read that we had the appropriate scenes to demonstrate this at the appropriate times, and otherwise progress in-game as if we didn't have to worry about it.

If you think this is a good idea, and aren't upset by skipping over the role-playing nitty-gritty, read the following paragraph (no spoiler tags, sorry):

For my part, Bjorn is pretty upset by this, especially as it was came at a time when he was just starting to believe that there was a real chance of success, that it was possible to stand up to Pax and Cabal's power without getting squashed.  On the other hand, it also reaffirms his belief that this can't be done if we don't keep our eyes on the goal.  While what Paul actually did (trap Lindsey in the dream) was a good move, he did it for revenge against her.  As a result, it means none of us know how he did it (and hence can't do it ourselves), that none of us could anticipate the confrontation and be ready to protect him if needed, and it also made him gloat in front of Liandral, which was flat-out stupid.  There is no place in the Contest for taking things personally, and Paul's fate just reinforces that in Bjorn's eyes.

Okay. Thoughts?

Nathan is currently unsure of precisely what-the-hell-just-happened, whether Paul's dead, what have you.  For all we know he could have been thrown back into the dream himself or whatnot.

Not having a body gives much less in-the-face reality of it, I guses.

I'll say more on the topic once I've thought more on the topic.
Hangin' out backstage, waiting for the show.

Well, I'm all for not dropping into a drama pit.  I'm a heartless bastard? =P Kidding, Kidding.

I'm not an angsty type person.  Hanging around feeling mourning for more than a bit is something I just really don't do.  Unless pressed on it, I wouldn't even bring it up.  He's dead and more specifically, we're still in the rather dangerous 'contest' where all of us could follow him.  There's important stuff to think on and he just isn't it, dead or not.  Such as making sure we don't join him.

Working with Pax again?  Unlikely, while it wouldn't be so much 'vengence for Durant' as it would be 'the last time they killed one of us'.  I would fully count on them trying to kill us the second they had the opportunity.  This isn't terribly different from before since the only difference is I have proof behind my assumptions of them.

*shrugs*

Well, Goodbye.

Currently my character is in a state of shock over what happened. A good night's rest will probably help though a conversation with the rest of the team on this would also be good, especially on what to do the next time we meet with Pax.
