"This is definitely not normal..." Maki muttered to himself.  He gets the distinct feeling that something is not right.  More on the paranormal side of things, actually.

Remembering that dogs are supposed to be more sensitive to the supernatural and other similar things, he tries to think where he can get/borrow a dog from.

Shintaro, the kid next door had one, now that you think about it.
Liddo-kun: Bjorn is the rain gutter in which all the dirty thoughts of humanity flow into?
Bjorn: I prefer, instead, to think of myself as the crap that blocks the rain gutters, causing the dirty thoughts of humanity to back up, fill the streets, and flood your basements.

Since it was about 4am, Maki decided that it was too early to try and wake up Shintaro.

Hoping and pretending that it was nothing, he turned to go back down the staircase and ignored the peanut that rolled by him, whether it was still there or not.

Going back to his room, he decided to tuck himself under the blankets try hard to sleep again, since there's nothing much he can do at this hour of night.

The next day came quickly.  Sunlight was stabbing into your eyes, you could tell by the feel the warmth on your face.  Although the cold morning breeze was a bit--

Breeze?  You always slept with your windows closed so what was...?

Bjorn: I prefer, instead, to think of myself as the crap that blocks the rain gutters, causing the dirty thoughts of humanity to back up, fill the streets, and flood your basements.

Curious, Maki opened his eyes and sat up to look at the window.

Liddo-kun

The window firthest away from your bed was swung wide open, allowing the occasional gust of strong wind to catch and play with your curtains.

Kwokinator

Maki got up and closed the window, silently cursing whoever it was that opened his window.

Liddo-kun

While doing so, you notice a pair of dirty smudges marring the white,  wooden border of your windows - about shoulder width apart.

A robber must've climbed in here last night... Maki thought. That's why I heard sounds last night...

Maki looks around his room and tries to think of what he can use as a weapon.

Liddo-kun

Your ever trusty Louisville Slugger is nearby.  34 inches of solid, head cracking, maple wood.

Bjorn: I prefer, instead, to think of myself as the crap that blocks the rain gutters, causing the dirty thoughts of humanity to back up, fill the streets, and flood your basements.

Maki remembered he has school today, so quickly glances at the clock to check the time.

Liddo-kun

Checking the clock you note that you have about 40 minutes before school begins.

Crash.

Hmm.  Sounds like pots or pans being knocked over in the kitchen.

Maki goes to grab the baseball bat into his hands, makes sure he has a good grip on it and stalks towards the kitchen.

Liddo-kun

Getting to the kitchen, it's quiet now.  Maybe too quiet?

From where you're standing you can see the referigerator is ajar, cabinet doors left open, and various powders, sauces, and oils spilled across the floor in a sloppy puddle of muck.  You could tell quickly it was going to be a pain to get cleaned up.  That's when you also notice the red trail across the linoleum - strawberry jam, by the looks of it, that leads into the living room.

Maki ignores the mess in the kitchen for now.  He'll let his parents clean it up.  He'll probably get the blame for it, but better than cleaning that up.

He continues onwards towards the kitchen, following the trail of the jam.
