Gah, I misinterpretted the bit where she said "Sure, she is my Royal Princess and everyone 'loves' their royal rulers".  Nevermind that argument, it is retarded on my part.

However...

I know, but my point was that the fact that you can play as a girl still undermines the author's complaint. I'm sure there are plenty of games with other female leads that are more effective than DQ III, but I was just trying to stay within the series. I realize that you don't care much for the Dragon Quest games, but I happen to like them quite a bit.

Pfft.  Having the option to be a female and then the game still regarding the hero as a male doesn't undermine the complaint.  If anything, it enforces it by showcasing the lack of flexibility the games had with Gender.

Why bother staying within the series when all you can come up with as defense until DQ4 is a largely unimportant support PC and DQ3's cocktease of a gender option?  I'll admit I dislike DQ games that don't end in 3, 4, or 5, but really.  Irrational love of a game shouldn't blind you to how shoddy the counterarguments you've produced are,  especially when other games of the genre smack down the whiny woman's complaint far better.

As a rule of thumb, arguments that use as their primary example the original media of a medium that was designed by one guy over twenty years ago don't really need smackdowns in the first place.
