Yes, it definitely is. This is easily my favorite of the new season. ^^

Dracos

Well, Goodbye.

Dracos

Okay, watched  first 2 eps.

It's...odd.  The first ep was a stylism that really had no business being there.  It really didn't help getting into it.  I'll watch a bit more but it's not got a strong start.  Haruhi is significantly less interesting than following either the mundane main or the bouncy mascot character.

Its oddness makes it win. Especially for an MST3K fan. I find Haruhi herself brilliantly insane, in a fun way.

Karlinn

The first episode was solid.  Crappy student films with a self-aware narrator expounding on the pointlessness of sky cut-aways for tha win.

Second episode was weird.  The contrast between Haruhi and Kyon was decent, but once she got the idea for the club she went from 'eccentric but harmless' to 'this behavior would encourage a punch to the neck and a phone call to the cops.'  The ending dance was tight, though.

On the yay/nay scale, so far I give it a hesitant 'yay'.  I'll have to see what they have in store down the road before I can say for sure.

Karlinn:

I agree on the first ep...if it wasn't lead in.

If it continued in that vein or off of it, it would be neat, but moving back to the past from there was odd.

Dracos
Will keep an eye on it anyhow

And there's this episode 3. Haruhi continues to be insane, though apparently not without justification, as odd things lurk ahead. Yuki is hurrah, Mikuru is hurrah, bring on Itsuki and let's round out this club.

Dracos

I dunno.  Still out on it.  The twist at the end didn't really seize me that well either.

Upon review of the third episode, I'm afraid it reinforces the more worrying concerns I had from earlier.  Namely, that Haruhi is not simply eccentric or even off-the-wall nuts, but criminally insane.  As in, "butcher 50 people and save their toes in a freezer" insane.

Seriously, blackmailing the computer club by framing them for an attempted gang-rape?  Forcibly stripping Mikuru to do the stupid bunny costume thing?  Am I supposed to laugh at this, or... what?  What's the proper reaction here, apart from "Kyon needs to fucking grow a pair and smack the shit out of her"?

I want to like it, but random insanity, let alone borderline sociopathic behavior, stopped being interesting to me a long time ago.  The 'twist' at the end felt kinda rushed to me, and now I can't help but wonder if they're gonna take this in some pseudo-intellectual "let's weird things up David Lynch style" territory that's just gonna irritate me even more.

Short version: hesitant 'yay' has become hesitant 'nay', pending further analysis.

More like, "none of the above". I picked up some spoilers accidentally, then looked further into it to flesh out what I heard, and while I wouldn't actively advise research into what happens next(the novel series this is based on is 7 books and currently ongoing), I can note that she's not exactly insane. And I'm not quite seeing where you're getting the jump to psychopathic behaviour.

Actually, the 'twist' surprised me only in how soon it came. There's a lot of foreshadowing here, some of it actually quite subtle. I wrote Mind Stew; I like subtle foreshadowing. :)

Anyway, it's not "normal situation, then let's weird things up". The weird stuff is the main plot, Haruhi herself included. Kyon...I dunno where exactly he fits in just yet(didn't read spoilers ahead quite that far), but along the aforementioned foreshadowy lines, I'm pretty sure he's got something to do with it as well.

Saw this comment on this blog I was looking at and it caught my eye.

I figure others might be interested in it as well.
