[23:14] * @Thrall looks somewhat out of sorts this morning, though he's not exactly unusually quiet, given his normal demeanour. Still, the half-orc seems vaguely pensive as he breaks camp and gathers his gear to resume their journey.
[23:15] <@Kethean> "Morning," Kethean says as he awakens, greetings the others with a small yawn, which he covers behind his hand.
[23:16] <@Seraphin> "Good morning," Seraphin offers back softly, packing away her camp, and smiling of all things.
[23:17] * @Maz finishes her meditation, and glances at her companions. "Hello," she greets them quietly, and moves on to pack her things.
[23:18] <@Kethean> "Feeling better you two?" Kethean asks after nodding to Seraphin, turning to Maz and Thrall.
[23:18] <@Maz> "Debatable," she replies dryly.
[23:19] * @Thrall just grunts as he finishes packing and starts over to their cart where he'd left his armour overnight.
[23:19] * @Kethean nods. "Apparently we slept by a rather magical well," Kethean replies. "I suppose your dreams were bad memories? Or would you prefer not to talk about it?"
[23:20] <@Maz> "Maybe later," Maz demurs, her supplies all packed. "Right now, I have an overwhelming urge to kill something."
[23:21] <@Seraphin> "I killed my father again," Seraphin offers brightly.
[23:22] <@Maz> "Oh, must've been fun," Maz says, perking up. "You must share the secret of your success some time."
[23:24] <@Seraphin> "Mmmm...not until the second or third act, but it was a happy ending," Seraphin agrees, humming something soft and emlodious as she goes about her morning.
[23:25] <@Kethean> "Mmm...well, if when we reach the Sharrans, you still have that urge to kill something, if I call someone by name, that fight is mine," Kethean requests as politely as one can in such circumstances. "Feel free to pick anyone else as your target however."
[23:30] <@Thrall> Having armoured up, Thrall returns to his companions. "Looks like the caravan's about to get moving. You all ready to leave?" he asks, sounding vaguely distracted.
[23:31] <@Carthrat> Chatting continues on for a moment, and soon the caravan lurches off again. It's about half a day before the caravan master approaches your group- "This is where we probably want to part ways," he says, glancing over you all. "We made good time- where you're headed, though, is straight up north from here, while we're going to continue west."
[23:31] <@Carthrat> Elmyra is standing nearby, looking at you all with some degree of curiosity.
[23:33] * @Thrall nods to the caravan master. "Thanks for letting us travel with you this far. Fare well on your journeys."
[23:33] * @Maz waves at Elmyra, before following Thrall's example and nodding at the caravan master.
[23:33] <@Carthrat> "If I could give you some luck, I would," replies the caravan master, shaking his head in amusement. "When you're done, you're better of travelling further west again- you'll probably hit Darromar, and you'd be better off hitching another ride there than trying to travel back across the waste yourself."
[23:34] * @Seraphin blinks, staring at the child a long while as the other's say their goodbyes. What's a child doing in a caravan like this?
[23:35] <@Thrall> "Sounds like a plan," Thrall agrees. Better to find a caravan than travel on their own, since their Scout left on his hare brained get-rich-quick scheme...
[23:35] <@Carthrat> The child stares long back at Seraphin, before she smiles, suddenly. "She's proud of you," she says, cheerfully, before turning and running back into the middle of the caravan.
[23:39] * @Seraphin doesn't quite openly recoil from that, bright red eyes wide and surprised as she turns away from the caravan to continue on with her companions. What a strange, strange place.
[23:41] <@Carthrat> So the group of four sets off across the sands, endless desert heat infiltarting every pore of their bodies and generally making the journey more unpleasant than ever. As you travel, you consult your maps of what you can tell of where the Sharrans went, and are able to discuss plans along the way.
[23:41] <@Carthrat> The area the Sharrans travelled to was laid out on one of your maps- yet another oasis in the desert (aren't these things supposed to be rare? Well, if you know where they are in the first place...) This was was slightly different from the rest with regards to the rock formations about it. To the south were two huge cliffs, simply jutting out from the surface of the sand like a sore thumb.
[23:41] <@Carthrat> Ahead from there was the oasis, but it was surrounded by an odd, fortlike formation, ramps running up the side and forming a high wall against the front. A bridge goes from one side to the other, linking the rocks over the water.
[23:44] <@Thrall> "If the Sharrans have already camped themselves there, it would be suicide to approach directly from the South," Thrall remarks. "We'd be better heading to the West of the oasis a good ways out, before approaching more carefully to scout out what's there." Just a pity their Scout buggered off the rob a dragon, but they'll make do.
[23:47] <@Maz> "I can make one of us invisible, easing the job of scouting out the Sharran oasis," Maz comments. "Approaching from the west does seem like the best idea."
[23:53] * @Seraphin stretches in the saddle, smiling easily. "Mhm," she agrees, Seraphin's normally sarcastic mood a good deal chipper. "Or maybe it's a fortified village? That's being hopeful, though."
[23:55] <@Thrall> "Regardless, it'd be best to approach at night. They'd see us from miles off during the day. Howabout someone goes to investigate around sundown, then once we know what we're up against we can strike before dawn?" Thrall suggests.
[23:57] <@Seraphin> "Sure," Seraphin agrees, smiling a little. "It'd be nice to sleep the sun away instead of living it, for a change," she murmurs, still smiling, somehow.
[23:57] <@Maz> "Works for me," Maz agrees.
[23:58] <@Thrall> "At least that's settled," Thrall nods, spurring his horse. "Come on, still a lot of desert to cover before we reach them."
Session Time: Sun Apr 30 00:00:00 2006
[00:00] <@Carthrat> You reach the far west of the oasis a little before the evening. Cliffs loom in the distance, towering up like brown fortresses far away. The smaller oasis is visible from here, though very little is discernable.
[00:06] <@Carthrat> <-A few hours later...->
[00:07] <@Carthrat> It's dark, and the starts twinkle in the night sky. It's very cold, now.
[00:07] <@Maz> "I'll try to get an estimate of their numbers and positions," Maz tells the others, preparing to cast her first spell.
[00:08] <@Thrall> "Good luck," Thrall tells her, breath misting in the air as he feeds his horse. It'll have a hard night ahead of it...
[00:10] <@Kethean> "And be careful," the monk adds, as she gets ready.
[00:11] * @Maz nods. Then, she leaves her pack behind, and gestures with her arms, her hands moving in seemingly erratic patterns. She chants, and the lines her hands trace in the air begin to glow, slowly interconnecting into the picture of a winged elf. The ghostly image grows, and Maz bows, her forehead making contact with it, a glow enveloping her.
[00:11] <@Maz> It tingles across her skin, and her body shifts to fit the one she drew in the air. Maz glances back at her new wings, and moves them experimentally.
[00:12] <@Carthrat> They flex almost responsively, and the knowledge of how to actually use them seems to come instinctually- you'll need a running start, and you'll need to keep forward momentum if you're not to simply plummet.
[00:14] <@Maz> With a backwards glance and a promise to return within half an hour at the most, Maz takes off with the help of that running start.
[00:15] <@Carthrat> With mighty beats of your wings, you actually take off! It's exhilarating, the cold air rushing past your wings, the endless sky right above you. It's hard work staying up, but, you have to admit- it's excellent fun.
[00:17] <@Maz> Halfway to the southern edge of the oasis, marked by its cliffs, Maz mumbles the words to the spell that would make her invisible, doing a roll in the air as the arcane power washes over her.
[00:18] <@Carthrat> To her companions, Maz simply blinks out of the sky, as she's cloaked by magical energy. The oasis stands ahead, ready for you to pass over it.
[00:19] * @Maz plans to circle around the oasis, clock-wise, and then fly straight across it one she reaches its northern tip.
[00:20] <@Carthrat> You see a rock formation and an oasis, set out just as it is in the map. Swooping over, you can see five archers standing atop the rock formation, four of whom are dressed all in black, but one of which has chosen to wear lighter desert colours- his bow seems different from the rest.
[00:20] <@Carthrat> You note that the water flows deeper underground than your map indicated, into a dark cavern than you can't quite see, and you also notice that there is a party of five heading inside it.
[00:20] <@Carthrat> Gathered around the waters edge, you can make out three robed figures, guarded by five armsman between them; strewn about the oasis are black-robed corpses and red-skinned bodies alike, soaking the sand with blood.
[00:20] <@Carthrat> After a couple more passes, you can see that two of the robed figures are wearing armour underneath their cloaks, and seem to be carrying maces; the other one has a staff, and is thumbing through the pages of a book.
[00:22] <@Maz> Satisfied with her recon, Maz takes off towards her companions, flying in a wide arc in case someone managed to spot her despite every precaution.
[00:23] <@Carthrat> You manage to touch down just as your invisbility spell wears off, skidding to a halt just by where your companions are waiting.
[00:24] <@Maz> "This flying deal is not too bad," Maz tells them, having landed in a reasonable distance so as to not scare them.
[00:24] <@Thrall> Seeing Maz reappear, Thrall nods in satisfaction. "All went well?" he asks.
[00:25] <@Maz> "As could be expected," she tells him, flapping her wings once reflexively. Maz walks over to her map of the oasis, and takes a short stick, using it as a pointer as she gestures at various places on that map.
[00:26] <@Maz> "The rock formation here, at the south, had four black-clad archers, and one that wore desert colors. His bow, a shortbow, was different from the weapons of those others, with jewels studded into the ends."
[00:27] * @Maz pauses, thinking back. "I believe the archers wore studded leather armor."
[00:27] <@Thrall> "Probably a magic bow," Thrall nods. "We won't want to leave archers alone up there for long while we're fighting elsewhere..."
[00:28] * @Maz nods as well. "Possible. What else... the water from the oasis goes into some cave, where I saw five people disappear. I wasn't close enough to see them in detail, before they were gone. Or, obviously, in any position to head inside to see who else might be there."
[00:30] * @Maz now points at the northern edge of the oasis. "Three robed guys here, two of them wearing armor and armed with maces. The other's a wizard, most likely -- he had a staff and what seemed to be a spellbook. Those three are guarded by a quintet of soldiers."
[00:30] * @Kethean snorts. "They do seem to like their caves, don't they?"
[00:31] * @Seraphin nods along, paying attention in the midst of night. "Mmmm...We could wait, and if Maz could fly me or Kethean--you might be a little heavy, Thrall--up to deal with the archers...especially if it was at night, and the archers were still sleeping..."
[00:31] <@Maz> "The five soldiers are on guard. Three with spears, the other two with longswords and shields."
[00:32] <@Seraphin> "I hate spears," Seraphin notes idly.
[00:33] <@Thrall> "Seconded," Thrall growls. "Might be an idea to come in close to the cliff so we can get up and deal with the archers first, then we'll have a good location for dealing with the rest. How's the terrain?" he asks Maz, "Think a horse can get up there, or does it need to be climbed?"
[00:36] <@Maz> "I'm not the best of fliers, I only have one invisibility spell left for the day, and they were all alert," she tells Seraphin. "I don't think they'd be all that surprised by whatever clumsy aerial assault I could arrange." Maz turns to Thrall, and thinks about his question for a moment. "The southern cliffs are twenty meters high, and fairly steep. A horse won't get there, even if it were one that was used to these desert conditions."
[00:37] <@Thrall> "Pity," Thrall frowns. "Anyway, we'll wait until an hour before dawn - that should be time for you to memorise new spells, right?"
[00:37] <@Seraphin> "Bah," Seraphin sighs softly, her hopes and dreams for midnight gutting dashed.
[00:37] <@Maz> "It should," Maz agrees.
[00:38] * Retrieving #dunes modes...
[00:38] <@Maz> "And it might mess up with their minds, too. If they're so antsy now, a few hours of nothing would only work to our advantage."
[00:40] <@Thrall> "Shadow cultists are probably busiest at night. Chances are a lot of them will be bedding down with the dawn," Thrall notes. "Anyway, we have an idea of what we're up against. Best thing to do now is rest so we're ready when the time comes."
[00:41] * @Kethean nods in agreement. "That sounds like our best chance. I do wish Thaeos was still around. We could have used him against those archers."
[00:42] <@Thrall> "Hopefully he's not resting in a dragon's belly right now," the half-orc comments sarcastically. "We might see him again on the way back."
[00:44] * @Kethean nods. "Would be a shame if he was bit in half..."
[00:45] <@Carthrat> <-More hours pass. Update spelllists, people who have spelllists.)
[00:45] <@Carthrat> The desert sun is slowly rising again, as the quartet of violent maniacs arranges itself towards the north of the oasis...
[00:46] <@Carthrat> *The desert sun is not rising for another hours, as time rearranges itself.
[00:53] * @Maz uses the opportunity to cast Mage Armor on herself, the familiar snowflake melting into her and glowing for a moment, before that glow fades.
[00:55] <@Maz> "I can make only three of us invisible, so someone will have to make due with a potion," she says apologetically, before proceeding to cast the spell on Kethean.
[00:56] <@Seraphin> "That would be me," Seraphin agrees, taking said potion out.
[00:56] <@Maz> "Let's try to take out their mage first," she says, wincing. "Being on the receiving end of fireballs isn't fun."
[00:56] * @Maz nods at Seraphin, and proceeds to cast invisibility again on Thrall and finally on herself.
[00:57] <@Thrall> "I'll stay back a bit - don't want to give us away with the noise of my armour," Thrall notes as he vanishes. "But as soon as I see fighting start I'll charge in."
[00:59] * @Seraphin drinks her potion, nodding. "Right."
[01:01] <@Maz> "And a little something to stay in touch," Maz adds, looking over the other three as she points at them. "The message spell's quite handy, I find."
[01:01] <@Seraphin> Seraphin downs a second potion, snickering a little. "It came in handy last time."
[01:02] <@Kethean> "Well, let's go and take down the rest of this cult," Kethean says with a small frown, wondering what he'll have to do about his brother.
[01:02] <@Thrall> "Lead on," Thrall says, waiting a moment for the others to get ahead of him before he starts towards the oasis himself.
[01:03] * @Kethean heads towards the oasis along with Maz and Seraphin as Thrall trails a bit behind them.
[01:08] <@Carthrat> You're shortly able to reach the trees, where you can see that everyone Maz saw earlier is still there...
[01:10] <@Thrall> Seeing their foes ahead, Thrall downs a potion of protection from evil and readies his axe, carefully moving closer - but still far enough he won't be heard easily, and waits for the others to commence the attack.
[01:10] * @Maz takes cover behind a tree, leaving just enough of her face exposed to see the oasis.
[01:11] * @Seraphin whispers softly into the message spell. "I'll go after the mage...anyone else care to make sure I don't get skewered by spears?"
[01:13] <@Maz> "Backbiter will take care of the spearman," Maz whispers quietly.
[01:14] <@Kethean> "I'll help deal with the spears as well," Kethean adds easily enough, before whispering an incantation under his breath. OOC - casting owl's wisdom
[01:14] <@Carthrat> OOC - Gotcha.
[01:14] <@Thrall> "I'll go for the swordsman, or the mage if he's still up," Thrall whispers from his own vantage, just in range for a quick sprint when things go up.
[01:16] <@Seraphin> "Right, beginning to move up," Seraphin heads off, closing the distance silently.
[01:17] * @Maz takes out her wand of magic missiles, just in case.
[01:17] * @Kethean follows after Seraphin, ready to split off after the closest fighter once she's closed in on the mage.
[01:19] <@Carthrat> As Seraphin closes distance, she feels a sudden prickling on the back of her neck. When she's within 20 feet of the mage, a blaring noise emnates from around him, like a great horn! "Someone's here!" he yells, and everyone about snaps to attention, the mages guards rushing to stand near him!
[01:20] * @Thrall curses quietly, tensing but remaining motionless until he sees one of his companions appear.
[01:20] * @Seraphin sighs to herself. Well, at least they don't know exactly where she is. She contiunues to sneak around, getting towards the mage's back to stab him.
[01:21] <@Carthrat> The mage is backpedaling away, casting a spell on himself as he cautiously moves back to the ramp. If you keep moving slowly, he'll probably get there, but if you run...
[01:23] <@Seraphin> Weighing the options, Seraphin adds a third potion to her personal cocktail of magic, and begins to run after the mage, doing her best to remain quiet amidst all the clanking of these fighters.
[01:24] <@Seraphin> roll 1d20+11
[01:24] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Seraphin : [ 1d20=16 ]{27}
[01:25] <@Seraphin> roll 2d6+3
[01:25] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Seraphin : [ 2d6=7 ]{10}
[01:25] <@Carthrat> "Gwargh!" shouts the mage as Seraphin's sword strikes true, cutting brutally down his back! He stands, but horribly wounded- a single light blow could take him down! (Everyone else?)
[01:27] * @Kethean immidiately goes after the closest fighter as the mage screams from Seraphin's wounds, pulling his nunchukus out and launching a strike at the man.
[01:27] <@Kethean> roll 1d20+6
[01:27] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Kethean : [ 1d20=9 ]{15}

[01:30] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Kethean : [ 1d6=2 ]{4}
[01:31] <@Maz> "Thrall, can you get the mage?" Maz asks, as she draws her ceremonial dagger and places her palm against its cool surface, her eyes flashing icy blue as she chants the words of the backbiter curse, targetting the spearman closest to Seraphin.
[01:31] * Carhrat-Away is now known as Carthrat
[01:31] * ChanServ sets mode: +ao Carthrat Carthrat
[01:31] * @Thrall springs into action, not caring about the noise of his armour now that battle has commenced as he charges Mage to finish him off!
[01:32] <@Carthrat> Kethean's Nunchuku blaze with black energy as they lash out towards the spearmen, black flames washing across his face! (They're +1 flaming nunchuku at the moment, Kethean, for shits and giggles.)
[01:32] <@Carthrat> (Extra 1d6 damage.)
[01:34] <@Thrall> roll 1d20+17
[01:40] <@Carthrat> The mage screams his way to the nether, Thrall's brutal blow destroying what was once perhaps a brilliant mind! Maz's spell likewise tangles about the spearmen, and the sharrans all about make ready for battle!
[01:40] <@Carthrat> OOC: Inits. You guys go first.

[01:46] * Carthrat changes topic to 'Sand Archer = Seraphin > Kethean > Thrall > Spearmen > Maz > Swordsmen > Clerics > Archers'
[01:49] <@Carthrat> The sharran forces begin to swing into motion! At this instant, the sand-clothed archer rushes to survey the battlefield, arrow nocked to his bow! Seraphin and Thrall stand over the corpse of a dead mage, but behind them stand two warriors - a spearman engaged by Kethean, and a swordsman who's turned to stare at both of you, reflexes still waiting to kick in!
[01:50] <@Carthrat> On the opposite side of the oasis, three more warriors and two robed figures stare across it, hands and feet beginning to move! The rest of the archers on the ridge are rushing into action!
[01:52] <@Seraphin> Seraphin rushes past the spearmen while he remains distracted, getting around to the other side and lashing out with her shortsword, trying to keep the spearmen pinned at close range by herself and Kethean!
[01:52] <@Seraphin> roll 1d20+7
[01:52] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Seraphin : [ 1d20=2 ]{9}
[01:53] <@Carthrat> As Seraphin rushes to one side, the spearmen manages to deflect her assault with his longer weapon- even though now he's in close range, and thus in trouble! Meanwhile, however, the sand covered archer takes aim, and, hand a blur, he fires a pair of pointed projectiles at Thrall- they make a deadly whistling sound as they fly through the air...

[01:54] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Carthrat : [ 2d6=3 ]{15}
[01:55] <@Carthrat> The pair of arrows seep through his armour, propelled by magical force! Thrall feels a painful sting as they cut into him, dealing serious damage!
[01:55] <@Carthrat> OOC: 15 damage yeah.
[01:55] <@Thrall> "Arrrgh!" Thrall growls in pain, staggering with the blow.
[01:58] * @Kethean momentarily breaks from his attempt at taking out his current opponent, and begins weaving his magic, its intent obvious as he chants out his bane spell.
[01:59] <@Carthrat> A burst of dreadful energy emnates from Kethean, catching both the spearman and the swordsman in a burst!
[02:02] <@Thrall> Not liking his chances of making it up onto that cliff in a hurry, Thrall takes the time to carve the swordsman's stomach open with his axe!
[02:02] <@Thrall> roll 1d20+10 (-1 power attack)
[02:02] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Thrall : [ 1d20=4 ]{14}
[02:03] <@Carthrat> The swordsman manages to deflect your blow with his shield, stepping back a little, but otherwise standing strong in the face of your strike!
[02:03] <@Carthrat> The spearman, however, as Kethean stands back, tries to turn and lash out at Thrall, who's just in the right spot to attack.. but screams as his spear turns in on itself, lashing back towards him!
[02:04] <@Carthrat> roll 1d20+8
[02:04] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Carthrat : [ 1d20=2 ]{10}
[02:04] <@Carthrat> Lucky for him, though, it misses, spear jutting just past his head before it returns to his hands. Terrified, he drops his weapon nonetheless!
[02:05] * @Maz commits the sand-clothed archer to memory, and ducks completely behind her tree, using it for cover. "I'll try to distract that archer," she whispers to her allies through her message spell, and then her wand makes a twirl in the air. A moment later, a pair of magic missiles circle around the tree to strike at him unerringly.
[02:05] <@Maz> roll 2d4+2
[02:05] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Maz : [ 2d4=2 ]{4}
[02:06] <@Carthrat> Mystical bolts fly through the air and slam into him, but he shrugs off their impact easily, his eagle eyes turning to survey they one who assaulted him!
[02:06] * Carthrat changes topic to 'Sand Archer = Seraphin > Kethean > Thrall > Spearmen > Maz > Swordsmen > Clerics > Archers '
[02:07] <@Carthrat> The sharrans finally swing into action in their entirey! The swordsman Thrall attacked lashes out at him, sword cleaving towards flesh!
[02:07] <@Carthrat> roll 1d20+8
[02:07] * +Serith bats the dice around, getting a roll for Carthrat : [ 1d20=9 ]{17}
[02:09] <@Carthrat> A miss, though, the blade clanging off good steel armour! Meanwhile, the soldiers at the other side of the oasis start as they see a bolt fly towards an archer, and they start rushing towards Maz, weapons ready to inflict some serious damage! They leave only after the clerics bolstering them have whispered and cast spells on them...

Her hand clenches around the scroll of Obscuring Mist she prepared earlier, and she breaks the wax on it, unrolling the parchment. She reads from the scroll, her ceremonial dagger flashing before her, and the words glow as the air around Maz becomes heavy with vapor. Her eyes determined, she po
[02:38] <@Maz> Her eyes determined, she points beyond Thrall, aiming towards the archers targetting him, and lets the spell fly!
[02:39] <@Carthrat> Mist suddenly appears around Maz and Thrall, blocking them from sight! Archers can't get a shot at all, and even the charging soldiers are given pause!
[02:41] <@Carthrat> "Split up! Surround that mist!" yell the clerics! One of them casts a spell towards the obscuring mist just after this yell, and Thrall and Maz find that nothing they do creates any noise, a spell of silence focused on them! The other one carefully heads up the stone ridge, not casting anything for now!
[02:41] <@Carthrat> Meanwhile, the four other archers on the roof hesitate- a flurry of arrows flies into the mist, but fails to hit anything remotely like a person! Carefully, however, the peerless archer levels his bow at Kethean...
[02:44] <@Seraphin> Taking a quick step back from the spearless spearman, Seraphin focuses her own heritage's magic up at the damned archer, cloaking him and everything within 20 feet of him in darkness!

[02:57] <@Maz> OOC: Hopefully, I'll see him at 5 ft?
[02:58] <@Carthrat> OOC: Sure, you can get next to him. Action?
[03:01] <@Carthrat> It's hard to see what's happening for everyone but Seraphin! One cleric is moving towards the obscuring mist, gathering around the edge with her allies as they stand uncertainly- the other cleric has moved up to the archers, casting a spell on all of them! Meanwhile, the swordsman she's in combat with tries to do her an injury!

[03:02] <@Carthrat> As she gets ready for her next move, she hears a splash, coming from back, where the darkness is...
[03:04] <@Seraphin> Really not wanting a swordsman at her back as she runs, Seraphin engages the man, striking with dagger and short blade, her eyes and the shining steal thirsting for blood!

[03:05] <@Carthrat> OOC: ok he dies.
[03:05] <@Seraphin> OOC: Really?
[03:05] <@Carthrat> The swordsman dies, dagger ripping out his throat in a single blow, perfectly eviscerating Seraphins opponent!
[03:06] <@Carthrat> OOC: He would probably die anyway, but I think rolling a 20 on the threat justifies OHKO.
[03:06] <@Carthrat> OOC: In this case. Don't expect this to be consistant.
[03:07] <@Thrall> Deciding not to buy potions from such worthless clerics in the future, Thrall carefully backs out the way he came to leave the mist and see what he's up against, now.
[03:07] <@Carthrat> Thrall can see that Seraphin has dropped the swordsman, while the spearman she was facing has retreated. A great orb of darkness hangs over the cliff, and between that and the obscuring mist, the archers on the top are caught without any means of attack.
[03:08] <@Carthrat> Howveer, he can't see through the mist to the soldiers on the other side.
[03:10] * @Maz heads after Thrall, keeping him in sight while staying within the mist herself, and trying to reach the end of the silence spell.
[03:12] * @Maz takes out a scroll she hoped she wouldn't have to use from the bandoleer, and unrolls it, reading the arcane words as quietly as she can. As she speaks, a triangular shield springs into being before her, translucent and mesmerizing.
[03:15] <@Carthrat> Between the darkness and the obscuring mist, nobody can really make out that Thrall and Maz are leaving her spell... except for the lone cleric who just blessed the archers, who waves over at them, shouting. Chaos abounds, warriors on the opposite side of the mist trying to charge forward, but perhaps getting lost along the way...

[03:23] <@Seraphin> Seraphin moves quickly to regroup with the others, waiting near THrall for someone to enjoin melee. She needs her victims distracted.
[03:23] * @Maz stays next to Thrall, while allowing him enough space to swing his axe with the efficiency she's become accustomed to, and flings a pair of magic missiles at the lonesome cleric standing dangerously high on the cliff from her wand.

[23:16] <@Carthrat> OOC: It's technically Kethean's go, now. The party all acts in succession anyway so it doesn't really matter, but I'll take it from him, seeing as you guys are otherwise holding.
[23:37] * Merc is now known as Kethean
[23:38] <@Carthrat> OOC: KETHEAN
[23:38] <@Carthrat> OOC: Do you remember where you were?

[23:39] <@Carthrat> OOC - It didn't envelope you.
[23:39] <@Kethean> ooc - but it enveloped everything else!
[23:40] <@Carthrat> Kethean, standing just by the rise towards the top of the cliff, can see the following! A single archer standing at the top looking a little shocked, and to the right, a great globe of darkness, obscuring all vision!

[23:49] <@Carthrat> Thrall and Seraphin can't hear or see a thing through the mist in front of them, outside which they lurk. Wait- someone is coming out! One of the soldiers, a towering fighter, eyes widening behind his helmet as he steps out, shield and sword already locked in a defensive position! OOC: Go nuts, Thrall.

[00:16] <@Carthrat> OOC: Init rolls around and it is Maz's turn again.
[00:16] <@Maz> "A plague on both your spears!" Maz calls out as she glares at the spearmen facing her and Thrall, her ceremonial dagger flashing in seemingly-random patterns, its tip occasionally pointing at either spearman. [00:33] <@Carthrat> A hideous wound shortly dealt out to him, he stumbles back into the mist, unseen once again! Meanwhile, Maz can see, far across on the other side of the ridge, archers slowly emerging from the magical darkness to one corner. One, two, three.. where's the sandy-haired one?
[00:37] <@Carthrat> Oh. There he is, in the oasis itself, actually swimming towards the edge further away from you- he must have jumped in while the darkness was present!
[00:39] <@Maz> "In the name of Nebes, let thy sight be darkened!" Maz proclaims, holding out her palm towards the gathered archers and calling upon her heritage to create another zone of Darkness bordering on the one Seraphin threw up in their faces.
[00:39] <@Maz> Admring her handiwork, Maz tells her companions with the use of her Message spell, "Their best archer is swimming through the oasis towards the farthest edge." Then, she retreats a few steps into the mist, but not far enough to be covered by the zone of Silence the cleric cast there.
[00:39] <@Carthrat> The archers don't even cry out in surprise, now, as the darkness takes hold once again.
[00:44] <@Kethean> Though hearing Maz's message, the monk continues towards the bloodied half-orc, converting the magic of one of his spells to attempt to ease Thrall's pain.

[00:44] <@Carthrat> The blood remains, but Thrall feels his pained body easy, a little, at least one arrow falling out his punctured armour and skin.
[00:45] * @Thrall breathes raggedly as he reaches for his last potion of healing. "Thanks," he grunts weakly, proceeding to knock back the magical elixer.

[00:47] <@Carthrat> Bolstered by intense magical surgery, Thrall almost feels like he could be whole, once more.
[00:48] <@Carthrat> OOC: sera-phin~
[00:51] * @Seraphin looks around, returning towards Maz and Thrall as immediate targets become unavailable. She so doesn't want to get in a shooting match with a specialist. So Seraphin gets back into position with ehr friends, waiting for an opportunity.
[00:53] <@Seraphin> Glancing again at the archer, she gets a tree between herself and him. Arrows don't feel good.
[00:54] <@Carthrat> Nothing obvious happens. The sandy-clothed archer pulls himself to the bank, glances at his opponents across the oasis, eyes carefully narrows as he quickly restrings his magical bow, before darting behind a tree himself. "What's your business here?" he calls out, a rich voice, more suited to a court noble than a desert archer.
[00:58] <@Seraphin> "We require the head of a certain beardless dwarf known to be traveling with the Sharrans!" Seraphin gives her more mercenary reply.
[01:00] <@Carthrat> "You want Kardon's head?" shouts back the archer, anger evident in his tone. "What foolishness.. give up, now! Ignore the lies those starstone fools have told you, and leave before I am forced to kill you." There's a shout from inside the darkness, where the archers lurk, one of anger.. but it is quickly stifled.
[01:03] * @Seraphin just laughs. "Frankly, they're offering large amounts of gold, and we don't exactly have the most friendly of records with this group, so giving up isn't particularly likely in any manner."
[01:03] <@Maz> "Kethean, can you try and sense for that imbalance my crazy relative was speaking of the other day?" Maz whispers, relying on her message spell once more.
[01:06] <@Carthrat> "Do you even know what you're killing for?" snarls the archer. "Idiotic dwarven honor! Straight-laced stupidity! I'm warning you, mercenary to mercenary- some jobs aren't worth taking, and yours is one of them!"
[01:06] <@Kethean> "You know, trying to sense something a crazy relative reveals isn't a sign of sanity in itself..." the monk whispers with a short nod. "...But I shall try."
[01:07] * @Maz snorts. "I appreciate it," she responds quietly, waiting for the resolution of negotiations between her companions and the arrogant-sounding archer.
[01:08] <@Kethean> As the others talk, Kethean meditates, first muttering a spell to allow him to detect magic, improving his ability to sense this imbalance hopefully.
[01:10] * @Thrall just growls quietly within the mist... he doesn't like it, but this fight is starting to look like more than they can handle. But even if they can trust a fellow mercenary to let them away, the Sharrans themselves are unlikely to be so obliging... For now, he leaves the negotiations to Seraphin. She seems to have a good head on her shoulders.

[01:11] <@Seraphin> "That's not the only group paying us for this either," Seraphin calls out. "City of Saradush wants this wiped out as well," Seraphin answers back, not really caring all that much herself. "Do I care what I'm killing for? No! As a murderer to a mercenary, I'd like you to take your pseudo-political bullshit and ram it up Shar's demon hole."
[01:14] * @Kethean holds back the urge to puke as the wave of nausea hits him. "There's a powerful force of magic streaming loose from the weave somewhere underground, maybe a hundred or so meters down...it's...insane," the monk mutters as he reveals his findings..
[01:16] <@Carthrat> "I gave you a chance," says the man, suddenly sounding weary. "Then, you have to die. Between us, I guess it's nothing personal." He slowly starts walking back, slowly taking cover behind the western ramp leading up the cliff.

[01:18] <@Thrall> "If we head for that cave you spotted earlier, their archers will have a hard time of it," Thrall notes, tensing.
[01:19] <@Maz> "That cave is where they plan to drain the magic from the Weave," Maz informs her allies. "It would also be guarded quite strongly, I suspect. And we already have enough information to bring back to Castor."

[01:34] * @Maz moves closer to the edge of the mist, taking cover behind one of the trees.
[01:34] <@Kethean> "As will I," Kethean says, though pausing, he casts an incantation on Thrall. "A bit of guidance to help you."
[01:35] * @Seraphin takes a depe breath, sheathing her blades for the moment and drawing her shortbow. Looks like she will be fighting weith a specialist...
[01:41] <@Thrall> "Okay," Thrall takes a deep breath, hoping they get through this okay. "Let's go!"
[01:42] * @Seraphin nods a little, arrow knocked on her bow for the moment.
[01:42] <@Thrall> With that, Thrall bursts forward deeper into the mist, through the zone of silence and then clear as he begins to run around the oasis, armour clanging as he pushes his injured frame as fast as it will go!
[01:42] * @Maz draws yet another scroll from her bag, and unrolls the brittle parchment. As she reads from it, her eyes dart towards the running form of Thrall every now and then, and magical light begins to surround him with a warm glow. Another step by the warrior, and his image suddenly splits into two, running almost side by side, their destination clear as day!
[01:43] * @Seraphin follows closely behind Thrall, keeping her eyes peeled for the archer to make a shot at him.
[01:43] * @Maz concentrates on maintaining the image.
[01:43] <@Carthrat> As Thrall breaks the other side of the mist, he sees a danger he neglected- an armour-clad cleric and the spearman who was wounded by Backbiter earlier- now freshly healed! They start as Thrall charges out, along with his double, again as Seraphin appears!
[01:44] * @Kethean bursts out from his cover and also moves in the direction of the enemy, presenting a desirable target for them, to hopefully keep some focus off Thrall.
[01:46] <@Carthrat> Gawping at the three people who burst out to attack them, a flurry of violence quickly ensues as the cleric and spearman attack the more easily-identifiable targets- Seraphin and Kethean!

[01:48] <@Carthrat> A mace whistles past Seraphin's ear, and Kethean just barely parries aside the long shaft of a spear, held by a spearman a short distance away! Meanwhile, the archer pauses in confusion a moment, before steeling his gaze and letting two arrows fly towards one image!

[01:50] * @Maz maintains her concentration on the spell, forcing the false image to cross Thrall's path again and run in step with him, before emerging when Thrall steps a bit to the left in the course of his elliptic run.
[01:57] * @Kethean approaches the spear-holder, and pulling back, throws a mighty punch which should leave him quite stunned for a bit.
[01:57] <@Carthrat> As Kethean closes past the spear, the fighter holding it tries to insert it into him, taking advantage of his forward movement!
