Higurashi no Naku Koro ni

Seen: Two episodes of the 24 released to date

I probably shouldn't be doing a review of this series only two episodes in, but I wanted to tip people off immidiately to a mystery that has caught my eye.

Our high school hero, Keiichi moves to a village in the middle nowhere recently. By now he's made friends with the only kids near his age in the village, 4 girls, one a year older, two a year younger, and one his age. All seems normal until one day at the local garbage dump he encounters a photographer visiting the area and learns that every year in the last four, a murder has been commited and someone related to the victim disappears on the same day. When Keiichi tries asking about it in a roundabout way, his friends lie about what's happening, and frequently become agitated at his questions, agitated in a very disturbing way which is unlike them.

By the second episodes, another murder disappearance has happened again, and Keiichi doesn't know what to think anymore.

This thing has got me hooked fast. It's an air of creepyness as the outsider is trapped in a town where anyone might be an enemy, and something weird is going on behind his back. Hell, the very opening of the series involves a shadowy figure beating a couple of people to death with a baseball bat (not explained yet).

In any case, I don't know if they can maintain the shroud of mystery successfully for 24 episodes, and you can't really judge a series by only two eps, but i highly recommend you take a look at this and give it a try.

Heh. True. But the series is almost done, and by the time most people have DL'd it it will be over. Besides, I'll give a more detailed one once I'm finished with it.
