Alrighty, I'm tossing this up from personal interest. I wanna know what those who have gamed with me consider my strengths and weaknesses are, player-wise. How I am as a RPer over-all, and suggestions on how to improve, ect.

Pot shots welcome, but be adults ;)

Mmmm.

Good points:

- Likes giving the GM ideas and feedback, often unsolicited. I consider this a very good strength, since it shows interest in the game as well as provides more options to work with. I suppose some GMs might not care for this, but I certainly feel it's a very strong suit.

- Generally good combat sense. You're not an idiot about what needs to be done in battle usually, though you are capable of missteps and bad luck.

- Within a narrow spectrum you're very good at RPing. As long as your character is within this range your characters feel authetic, interesting and well flushed out. Tjhis is loosely defined as manly, bold and sometimes militaristic character archetypes. It matches your personality and it's an easy projection from there.

- Very good in OOC rooms for general screwin' around and chatting as the game goes, yet not distracting from the action. This is a useful talent for online gaming, to help keep everyone amused and mentally lubed up. Makes for interesting OOC logs to read, too!

Bad points:

- Outside of your range I'm not sold on your characters so much. I haven't seen too many ventures outside of it, but mmmm. Variety is good. Do you have it? I sincerely don't know, but playing the same type of character does get old after awhile. Have you considered expanding your horizons more? Play something wildly different and see if you like it; a quiet elfgirl or a studious young man?

On the balance you havea  lot of strong points in my eyes, it just happens that your main flaw is a big one for me. You're still pretty damn good at what you do, I'm curious if you can expand on that.

Hmm.. I knew about the narrow RP range, which is why I'm trying to slowly work into the caster area with Aramas. I'm aiming to make him the quiet, wise, semi-lone wolf, driven by a single goal. I'm not pulling it off all that well, and sometimes I've started slipping back into my RP range with him. I've tried to make his sense of humor more of the dry, sharp kind instead of the goof ball stuff I usually do, but I don't know how well I'm doing with it.

To me, it feels kinda weak, and I'm sure it seems so to everyone else too, but hey.. Practice, right? =)

And yeah, I know playing the same character time and time again gets old. Which is why I'm wanting to play more diverse type games, like the Pirate, a caster, and sorceror. Nothing to do to fix it except get down to it and try, and then work off of feedback on how the RPing seems weak, and build up on it.

Thanks for taking the time to respond, Dune.

Hmm. I agree with most of what Dune has to say. Extra note on OOC stuff in general is that you're real organized, show up on time, always let me know if you're gonna be late- those are all big plusses. It's not that nobody else does or anything, but reliability wins.

As far as combat sense goes, though, it does seem like you prefer to take the straightforward paths. There's not a lot of adaption there, I believe. I dunno. If you've got a plan you can stick to I think things work well, and if you can see everything that's going on, you're also cool. But I think if we enter more murky territory where judgement calls need to be made... hmm. We'll see, I can't say you've had much opportunity to show me there.

I think the greatest thing that bugs me with you is the lack of panache in the way you describe your actions. Try sprucing them up or varying them more? Aramas throws a lot of rolling balls of hate, it gets old and uncool after you see the same sort of lines over and over again.

Heh, I know the action descriptions, and there's actually a reason for it. With Darius, I tended to get more in depth with descriptions, because I could actually visualize the movents required to make strike X. With Aramas.. There's only so many ways to release the same spell, ya know? I've got one attack spell, and after a while of tossing it around, you kinda run out of ideas. Not to mention, playing a back row character is new to me.

I'm used to being in the thick of it, with lots of action. Having a character that just stands in one place kind of makes me go, 'Yeah, yeah, I do the same thing I always do, hurry the hell up, get it over with.' Combined with Aramas' tendacy to flat out miss 90+% of the time makes combat a kind of dragging thing with him.

As far as the straight forward combat thing.. Eh, you're sorta right, and sorta not. I know straight forward combat really well. It's easy to plan and easy to deal with. Murky territory and judgement calls.. You'd be surprised. I tend to just sit back and keep to straight forward simply because I don't have control of the other characters. I could easily deal out tactics and 'lead' the group in combat, but that lends its self to problems with the other players, so I tend to stay away from it. As far as figuring out what's going on and how to do it, eh.. My thick skull comes into play there. Once I get a clue on the actual situation, I tend to figure things out fairly quickly.

As far as problem solving outside of combat, eh.. I'll grant I'm not as good with that as I could be. When I deal with figuring things out, I'm usually really, really mathodical about it. I might come up with a working answer in a minute or two, but I'll take ten just to make sure I've got it right. I tend to get annoyed with delays during gaming because of the compressed time frame we have, so I let others do it for the most part. I'll toss in once in a while, but unless it's in an area that my character is strong in, I tend to let it lie. After all, if there was an Arcane puzzle in Weekly, and I just happened to realize what needed to be done, it'd seem kinda back asswards for Darius the fighter to solve it while Saul the Mage just scratches his head.

Here's where I feel I should make another comment. You seem to be making strong character type demarcations based on class - wizards act one way, fighters another, and so on and so on. While this has it's own merits, perhaps you should consider thinking more outside the box? Think of how the character acts and why and not worry about what class he is?
